Fallen from Grace #1
Shattered Grace
Seventeen-year-old Grace grows up knowing she’s different, but she always attributed it to a mother who didn’t want her, a father who abandoned her, and a curse that sets her apart. I had the immense honor to be a beta reader for Ms. Raines’ debut novel Shattered Grace. From the first chapter, I found myself emotionally connected to the 17 year old heroine, Grace.
The story begins with her losing the person she was the closest to for most of her young life. However, her grandfather’s death isn't the only thing Grace is forced to accept. The same day she’s mourning his passing and trying to cope with greedy family members, she finds out he was more than just her grandfather. His death triggered a series of events that force her to become something she doesn't want to be. Her confusion and resistance only makes the inevitable change more difficult for her, and creates dangerous situations for the people she cares for. The person her grandfather trusted with his life, now has to convince Grace to trust him in the same way. Grace poses new challenges for him as well while he tries to convince her to embrace her destiny. If that isn't enough for her to deal with, she’s also become the target for other dangers and enemies she never knew existed.
As new characters were introduced, I found Grace’s life becoming even more intriguing. K. Anne did an excellent job at balancing mystery, fantasy, sorrow, humor and youthful romance. It has a brilliant plot, with hidden surprises that kept me engaged throughout the whole story. Kudos to Ms. Raines for a extraordinary first novel. I’m looking forward to the continuation of Grace in her future books.

This author's book was well written and I did enjoy her writing style. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the story line.
I found a large chunk of the story to be boring and a majority of it was wasted on the main character crying on her bed. There were aspects that I did like, but overall Grace's importance didn't work for me. Her ability wasn't anything special. Here's my thing, I think the guardian, since he is around from the beginning of time is more than capable of protecting Pandora and doesn't need to teach a teenage girl self defense classes.
My favorite character...Zeke the nice guy from school that she didn't give a decent shot to.
Overall, K. Anne Raines is definitely a promising author and I would definitely read another story by her!

This book....Stutter - Stutter - I'm Speechless...it was OUTSTANDING!!!!!
There was so much intrigue...I'm not sure I've ever felt so much before actually. I never wanted it to end.
K Anne Raines' debut novel - which you would NEVER guess because she is a stunning writer - unnaturally talented. (I was shocked over and over again)
I beta-read this book and I swear to you that that does not have any impact on my review. My review is what it is....
Grace is a 17 year old girl in high-school, her grandpa passes away and her life is literally turned upside down, inside out, twisted and turned into something completely crazy! It's such a wonderful journey that you are taken on with Grace - it has it's sad, happy, sexy, beautiful moments. Gah!
YA. Yes - not my usual - either is paranormal. BUT sweetbabyjesus was I happily surprised! Do not let the YA genre stop you - this book has plenty of heat and steaminess to give it just the right amount of edge! I now am 110% ecstatic to start reading more YA paranormal!
Quentin is just the most delicious character I've read about in some time....enjoy <3

I am so flattered that I was Chosen by this wonderful new author to be a beta reader for her debut novel. I was lucky enough to get to read it chapter by chapter as it was being written and let me tell you that is an amazing thing. I looked forward to each new chapter waiting for me in my inbox. This is a terrific story with characters that I absolutely fell in love with. I can't wait to read the next one and this one isn't even out yet. I highly recommend it for all ages.

This book was amazing! I wasn't really sure if I was going to enjoy it as much as I did when I first started reading! It sort of reminded me of the Hush, Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick but only because Shattered Grace had Nephilims in it! Apart from that it was completely different and in a world of its own! The plot started quite slow in my opinion but then it started to speed up and it had action in it and it was full of romance! I really enjoyed that the author added real life situations in this book as well as having paranormal situations as well! The characters were amazing! Grace was the main character and I loved how well she took the news when she found out about her life and how important she was! I connected with her the whole way through this book and I really enjoyed the way acted and her determination! I also loved that Shattered Grace was written mostly in Grace's point of view but we also got to go into Quentin's head as some scenes were written in his point of view! Quentin was one of the love interests of Grace and I loved him! He was determined to protect Grace and he was there for her right from the beginning! Darius was the other love interest of Grace and he was the one that Grace seemed to form more of a love relationship with bit in this love triangle I was Team Quentin! There was also at sone points of this book a love square between Grace, Quentin, Darius and Zeke but I liked that Zeke sort of started to think of Grace as just a friend as that as all I could see them being! I am really looking forward to seeing where the next book in this series goes and I love the cover! Big thank you to K. Completely Breath Taking!!!
K Anne Raines is an amazingly talented author. I loved Shattered Grace, the heart ached, the love and excitement, it all kept me captivated straight from the start.
After Grace's grandfather passes away, her world is turned upside down. Nothing is as it seems. She thought she knew everything there was to know about her grandfather, but it seems that was not the case.
After learning what and who she is, she needs to watch out for those who are after her. As if that wasn't bad enough she is finding out that there are those who are close to her have held things from her and now she is faced with choosing between two REALLY hot guys that she cares deeply for.
I have to say, I was really surprised by the out come of Shattered Grace, it didn't end the way I expected it to and I think that is what sets Shattered Grace apart from the rest. I highly recommend this book to everyone, I can not wait to read the second book of Fallen from Grace!!

This is the first book since reading the "Hush, Hush" saga that I've enjoyed reading about Angels, and Nephilim. I mean there were differences between the books obviously, like Grace has three guys wanting her affection and not just one. I wasn't sure who I was routing for I mean I'll always route for Quentin as I love him dearly, the things he says makes me laugh, "Trust me. I can take the heat. I'll meet you in the family room next to the fireplace. You know...where the heat is." Grace I loved that girl even though at times she was a mess ( I would be to) but the way she handles herself is very 'adultly'. The banter between Quentin and Grace oh my word I've never laughed so hard in certain scenes:
"We could go for a swim," he suggested.
"Why? so you can 'not' stare at my legs some more?"
"I wasn't staring at your legs!"
She raised an eyebrow.
"What? I wasn't," he tried again.
"Uh-huh."
"Even if I was - but I wasn't - you won't have to worry, because your legs will be in the water." His face split in an I'm-proud-of-myself-for-coming-up-with-that-logic smile.
Then there's Zeke that boy is just as sweet as pie, and I really wanted to gobble him up, "Don't get me wrong, I get that you're not the damsel in distress type, but you were just in a serious accident a couple days ago." The side of his mouth curled up, making the dimples appear in his cheeks. "Indulge me. We're going the same direction anyway." Then there was Darius who I had qualms about in the beginning, but after seeing how interacts with Grace makes my heart beat fast, and makes me route for him all the way! "Because I told you, I'd never let anything happen to you." Just to let everyone know all the while Grace is going through changes, she's not a pitiful girl when she gets angry she gets angry, "No?" She asked, stabbing him with her icy stare. "I know your job is to protect me and all, but I thought you were also my friend. A friend would have told me." Grace continued toward her car. When she reached for the door handle, she dipped her chin and kept her back to him. "Don't come with me. Don't follow me. Stay here with them...where your true loyalties lie." I really hope there is another book!

I loved Shattered Grace as a whole. Grace is a beautiful character and I really hope the author makes this book a series. There aren't any "real" cliffhangers"...you're not going to lose sleep, but I would like to see more of some of them. The progression from when her grandfather dies through what she must now accept, a legacy born centuries ago, is a journey I enjoyed. She isn't perfect, but she does her best. This is a YA and it touches on my least favorite topic of SO many books in this genre: she's a virgin. But this story isn't about that, so it's only mentioned twice >whew!< really sick of authors pushing the V-card. Who cares?
I can't say enough about the talent Ms. Raines possesses in her writing! Without sounding like a broken record, she really can weave a story. She doesn't overuse words, at one point I felt like I was watching the characters during their dialogue, like a ghost in the room or a fly on the wall, she's THAT good. The central characters: Grace, Quentin, Darius, Laney, another guy(no spoilers from me!), Amanda, Lux and Ari...I would love to read about in a second book. Those not mentioned, eh they detracted from the central story with fluff. Every book has it so it's just not my preference.
Yes, there will be a WAR over Team this or that. I'll leave that to you guys as I seriously didn't care either way: I liked them both. I want them both in future books. (Are you listening Ms. Raines?? ANOTHER BOOK PLEASE!! I really want to read more about the legacy!)

I really enjoyed reading this book and following Grace's story. She's never known love from her family except from her grandfather, who she then discovers had been holding back a secret from her. He was more than she thought and through bloodline... so is she...
My attention was caught in the beginning and then lost a little towards the end, my personal issue with the main character is why I'm giving this review a 4.5 star rating. For me, I think she cried a little too much and had an attitude... do I understand why she is reacting in this way? YES. The author does a great job at pulling into Grace's world and you learn to be sympathetic. I guess I lost my sympathy a little towards the end though, in the words of another character, Lux: "Grace! You're Chosen, for Christ's sake, grow a pair."
The author did a wonderful job with her debut novel and I will definitely be checking in constantly for the other books in the series. I'm a new fan of K. Anne Raines!

Let me begin by saying I read this book as a Guest Reviewer for Sugar and Spice Book Reviews. Thank you ladies for giving me an opportunity to be a part of your review team.
First of all this was my first paranormal and what a good one to start with. K. Anne Raines did a SUPERB job in never losing me during this story. Yes the story was quite lengthy but it was well worth it. I will skip the synopsis of the story since you can read about it already. The characters were so well defined and the dialog between them were so well written. I never felt that at anytime during this story that the author rushed through any part. Maybe that is why I really got into the story. This book contained every emotion loss, love, hate, anger, friendship, etc........

ugh! What to say about this book? I loved it. I did.
I thought it was suspenseful, interesting etc!
However, I was upset with who Grace really wanted in this book. ;( I was rooting for someone else.. won't post any spoilers tho! Despite that, it was a good book and an interesting way to portray Angels in a different way than others have done in the past. :)
Looking forward to book 2 and seeing if the one I want to be Grace's real and devoted love interest will get the spot that he so deserves! :) Team Q all the way! :) :) Here's hoping he gets the girl that is his beginning and always will be his beginning and ending..

Paranormal is a new genre for me and I was really looking forward to reading this book. It had me from the start. I was never confused. Everything was explained and it flowed perfectly. I am fascinated how K. Anne Raines was able to deliver a book with such great characters that made you feel like you knew each one of them personally, even feeling their pain at times. I love the MC and her selflessness. I can't say enough about this book. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I can't wait for the next one in this series. Great job, K.Anne Raines!!!!

Shattered Grace is a wonderfully crafted debut novel. The characters were so well defined that I found myself totally invested in their lives. I couldn't put the book down and had to find out how it ended. The paranormal elements were explained easily and seemed as though it could really happen in real life. I will definitely read more from this author. Awesome book from K. Anne Raines!

This genre of books has a competition and I think K Anne Raines it’s going to win! She is brilliant and knows her way around the word and does an excellent job with the description. It had me from the start, I love this book! I am fascinated how K. What a great read. Its been a long time since I have read this genre & i'm so glad I read this book. It had me guessing all the time what was coming up & who was into what. I felt all the characters were relatable even though they all had "gifts" I'm just loving Quentin & hope that with the up coming books he really steps up his game. He's so in love with Grace.
"Despite how long he'd been on this Earth, she was his beginning, she sensed. And like all beginnings, nothing else for him would begin or end if she wasn't a part of it. He wanted her every beginning and her every ending. She could see this as clear as day with her hands. Every emotion held in his heart was only for Grace" - What Grace could feel from Quentin's touch.
Darius is great too & smokin hot but Im just totally Team Q right now. That one kiss Q & Grace shared just left me wanting more.
There were so many twist & turns & OMG moments my husband kept laughing at me while I was reading. I highly recommend this book the only downside is book 2 doesn't come out until the end of the year. But I know it will be worth the wait =)

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. Turns out though, I loved it! There was so much romance and mystery, I couldn't help but be intrigued.
Poor Grace really gets blindsided by this whole new identity. Never did she imagine she was anything but normal.
I actually cried over the loss of her grandfather. It was so sad and touching how much love she had for him. He was the only one in the family that truly understood her. Her mother was cold and her father had taken off. He was the only one that she could relate to.
The guys!!! *swoons*
Holy hot sauce, three guys! I had a favorite that I was rooting for. I won't spoil the surprise, but she chooses one of the three, so at least there was some closure. I can't wait for book 2! I'm dying to see if the guy situation changes and how the shift in friendships impact Grace.
This was a great YA read and I am super stoked for book 2. Check out this read that I have to give five glittery stars to. It rocks!

This book was extremely well written. It pulled me in from the beginning and made me cry and laugh. I loved learning Grace's story and seeing how her life changes with the death of her beloved grandfather Christope. Once her grandfathers secret is revealed, Graces life is forever changed. She must embrace her new life with all it's restrictions and complications. Two of the complications come in very sexy packages known as Quentin and Darius!! This is a great start to an awesome new series!

I am a sucker for paranormal books. Especially anything that has to do with Angels.
When asked to review this book and learning what it was about I jumped on the Angel's wings real quick.
I know that for myself sometimes I read a book and start to think ok well this reminds me of this book or that book, so what makes a book so special it stands out? I always ask... well it's the plot. How does it differ form the other books, does it have sustenance to keep me intrigued?
I know Gabriel is an ArchAngel and in these types of books he is usually always mentioned.
It's the main and secondary characters in the book that pull you in and keep you wanting to read more about what happens to them.
For me Grace was a character that I was kind of surprised by. She doesn't know certain things about her past, after her grandfather and only real person she thought truly card for her dies, her life turns into chaos. She seems to handle everything thrown at her with....grace. She just steps up to the plate and takes it all in and learns and grows. I was cheering for her and I adored that she was so compassionate towards her friends. She is selfless and always wanting to make sure they are taken care of.
New things are revealed to her and she must learn to become whom she was destined to be. On the bright side she has a badass HOT guardian Angel that helps to protect her. Quentin <3
I was in awe of this guy. He deeply cares for her throughout the book. I loved reading his POV and how much he cares for her. He made me fall for him so completely.
Then, just to push this story even further the author writes in another incredible guy, Darius. OMG seriously...I have to choose between these two great guys. Well come to find out that Darius has a secret and Quentin knows what that is but can not tell Grace, UGH.
Next, the author threw in yup you guessed it another hot guy. Zeke although you don't really read to much about him, but you can just sense that his "crush" on Grace is just a bit more. So yes we have a trifecta of guys and one girl they all want to help protect. All the while she is trying to maintain being a regular high school girl, oh and inheriting millions and a mansion, while also trying to fend off her money hungry family. It's a lot of crap she has to deal with!
All in all I enjoyed the story, the plot was different as well as throwing in all the guys after her, usually I have two guys I get to choose from. I think for me the only thing missing was more action as she was the "chosen" one. I really wanted to see her tear up people. I am assuming that in the next book she will develop her fighting skills and be super badass! I am well invested in this book series now and believe that Grace can only get better.

She will never be the girl she thought she was. Yes, she is different, but not a freak, she has a gift, not a curse. Not only does she have a secret, but it seems everyone around her has their own secrets. Evan that stranger from her grandfather’s funeral isn’t what he said he is. Her grandfather told her in a letter that she could trust him, but something went wrong and she refused to do that. So, who can she trust? Shattered Grace is full of emotions that will make you angry, sad, happy and take a breath when you didn’t realize you were holding it. Grace’s life is like the life of a normal teenager ups and downs with girlfriends, boys and dating and partying, fighting with parents and other family members. Even you think is just a supernatural story, „Shattered Grace” is more like a life lesson because „nothing is what it seems”.
This book was amazing!I enjoyed it thoroughly and I can’t wait for the next one in this series.I recommend this book to everyone!!!

I was lucky enough to be chosen to read an advanced copy of K. Anne Raines' debut paranormal romance, Shattered Grace (Fallen from Grace) a couple of months ago. After 2 months and countless books later, I still recall every detail and emotion I felt when I read it. That should tell you how much I enjoyed Shattered Grace.
Grace is almost eighteen, grieving the loss of her grandfather, lost, alone, and cursed. Yeah, life sucks for Grace. All she has left in the world is a mom that has never shown her love, a dad that abandoned her when she was a child, and the rest of her extended family that despises her. Losing the one person that understood and loved her unconditionally has shattered Grace.
When Quentin, her late grandfather's mysterious attorney, gives Grace an envelope left to her, her world is tilted yet again. Some questions about Grace's life are answered, while some new questions emerge.She learns that not only has she inherited her grandfather's huge estate and a large part of his wealth. She also inherited the curse that she doesn't understand and his Guardian whose job is to protect her at all costs.
Grace is suddenly thrust into a new life. A life where she is half angel, half human. If that's not enough, she learns that she is a special half angel. She is a Chosen, and it's up to her to protect something that the Fallen will stop at nothing to get. Confused, angry and frightened, Grace has no choice but to rely on her new Guardian (think bodyguard with "special skills"), Quentin, to keep her safe and help her understand her new existence.
Grace might accept that she is different, but she is determined to hold on to her normal life. The life of a senior in high school with great friends and parties. She learns quickly that holding on to her old life is going to be difficult, if not impossible. The Fallen will stop at nothing to get to her, and the ones Grace loves most might just become collateral damage.
The sexual tension in this book is unbelievable.Quentin is torn by his oath to protect Grace and his growing love for her that is strictly forbidden. (Oh I forgot to mention, Quentin can feel Grace's emotions, and Grace can feel anyone's emotions by simply touching them.) So when Grace falls for Darius, a hot bad boy rocker, emotions between the Chosen and her Guardian run high. The secrets Quentin keeps and his feelings for Grace might end up destroying them both.
I loved this book. I told K. Anne that I would sit at the computer and hurry to finish so I could go read more, then I would remember that I had already read all of it. That's how obsessed I was by the end. I am dying to know what happens to Grace, Quentin, Darius and her friends that have been drawn into her world by association. (You're going to love her friends and the part they all play in this book)
I'm not saying anything else...buy I will pose some questions Shattered Grace might answer for you. Why did Grace's father abandon her and her mother? Why hasn't Grace's mom ever shown her love? Are the good guys really good guys? Who does Grace really want, Quentin or Darius?
K. Anne Raines did a fantastic job on her debut novel. What could have been a difficult concept to explain, she made easy to understand and follow. I was never once confused and picked up on the history and each person's roles in Grace's life with no problem. There is romance, suspense, mystery, unrequited love and humor all rolled up in one terrific book. I can't wait for book two! I am dying to know what is going to happen to Grace and who she ends up with!!

I love paranormal books and this debut novel by KA Raines did not disappoint.
The only person who has ever given Grace Morgan unconditional love has passed away – her beloved grandfather. Grace is the black sheep among her family and I feel sadness in my heart as she has no emotional connection to anyone, not even her own mother who she doesn’t trust and resents because of all of the hurt she has caused her. Grace has always known she was different and unbeknownst to her and what she will find out before her 18th birthday is that she has lived a life full of many secrets that were kept from her and that her life will never be the same again.
Quentin Kenward is her grandfather’s lawyer and friend and Grace can’t help but notice how attractive he is when they first meet. Quentin is her guardian Angel and has been a guardian for members of her family for many years. His purpose is to protect the Chosen, namely Grace – the ones selected to protect Pandora’s box. Quentin’s relationship with Grace should be impersonal but he is attracted to her as well. I enjoyed their interactions with each other – the flirting and Quentin’s struggle with his attraction to Grace had me laughing out loud. I especially loved his protectiveness of Grace – not because it was his duty but because deep in my heart, I knew he felt more for her than just being her guardian. I truly enjoyed Grace as the main heroine as I felt that her stubbornness, courage and strength of character allowed her to accept this duty as the Chosen, fight back against the evil and protect the ones she loves.
A secondary character that added that love triangle aspect to the story was Darius, a singer in a band that she meets one night. Somehow Darius and Grace always cross paths with each other, even in her dreams. Grace feels a special connection with Darius, enjoys hanging out with him and has more of a connection with him as Quentin is always trying to stay at arm’s length from her. Which will she choose? I had a hard time choosing between them myself!
So a bunch of questions cross my mind as I read this book - Who is this mysterious Darius? Will Grace be able to overcome her feelings of being betrayed and put trust in those around her? What happened with her relationship with her mother? And what will happen with Pandora’s box and will Grace be able to do her duty as Chosen?
I truly enjoyed this book! There were many surprises that kept me on my toes throughout. At times, I was a bit confused with some of the terminology and did feel that it was rushed at the end, but when a book ends and I am immediately wondering when book 2 will be out, I know it was a good book and that I will definitely continue with the series! Ms. Raines did a wonderful job on her first book – it was well written, the secondary characters were interesting and well developed (albeit sometimes immature in dialogue but realistic when thinking that this is set in high school and the drama of growing up at that age!) and I am looking forward to what happens next!

This is the story about a Chosen, one who is brave and fierce. One who has been kept in the dark and everything she once believed to be true, is not. One who will protect those she loves as well as Pandora's Box. Did I entice you? Who doesn't love a book about angels, filled with suspense and a love triangle?
K.A Raines has created a colorful story about the existence of the Chosen, specifically, Grace. Her world is literally turned upside down after the loss of her grandfather and the pain she feels is heartbreaking. But the loss isn't the only thing that has rocked her world off its axis, it's the news that Quentin, her Guardian is about to share with her. Growing up she always thought she was odd or even a freak but as the story progress we learn it's a gift and not a curse. She's able to sense emotions by simply touching someone whether it is for one second or a minute. With that ability brings a burden of knowing the truth even when you don't want to.
Quentin, Guardian to Grace has fallen in love with her against his better judgment but he’s unable to articulate what he feels for her without breaking the rules. In trying to have some semblance of self-control and keep Grace safe, without knowing it he pushes her into the arms of Darius. Darius who is Fallen and should be forbidden but Grace is a gal who is determined to do what feels right in her heart. There was something missing from this love triangle and it’s understanding who Darius really is. Why is he so attracted to Grace and why does Grace feel that connection to him? To me, that was a missing piece that was crucial to understanding their relationship. And Quentin needed more of a chance and that wasn’t explored…I’m all about a push and pull but he was discarded before he was given his opportunity.
Grace evolves throughout the story and she fosters relationships that truly become important to her. Amanda is the perfect example and I wasn’t sure where that friendship was headed and then BOOM…it was the emotional rollercoaster I needed. It was heartbreaking but to see Quentin also become involved and help with such a delicate matter was beyond touching. There were a few relationships throughout the story that I thought were really interesting which added more mystery to Grace’s world and I absolutely loved that!
At times I thought the story slowed down too much and details that should have been an important were missed. With that being said, K. General Opinion: “Shattered Grace” it was a surprise. A good one, of course. Clearly, I read the book because the blurb sounded interested, but the book is much better than the blurb shows. It’s a complex, very complicated story, that can give you a headache sometimes, very strong characters, and an incredible mix between normal and fantasy. I can say that I’m still surprised by this book.Much better than I thought!:)
What I liked the most: The characters, definitely. They were very strong characters, very wel created and I fet like they were “coming out of the pages”. I don’t know if you understand, but I felt like they were real people.Sometimes though, Grace annoyed me very much!She was so stubborn and she was always saying that people were lying to her,but she never thought that maybe they did it to protect her.

The action is very interesting and alert. You can’t get bored reading this book because there is always something that surprises you, that keeps you interested in reading the book.
“Shattered Grace” is more than a fantasy novel. It’s a book about real lifes and problems, too. The main theme approaced by the author is trust, lies, love and friendship. I didn’t read a book where the real life mixed with the paranormal in such a great way in a long time.
Did I say that I loved the characters? Oh, and I sensed from the beginning that there was something unusual with both Quentin and Darius. Hm, besides the fact that they are sexy. *giggles*
What I disliked: As I said, Grace’s stubbornes. She should let people take care of her. Letting people take care of you doesn’t show weakness.
I would’ve liked if there wasn’t a small trace of a love traingle. I felt it from the first time when Grace laid her eyes on Darius that there is gonna be one and, though it isn’t very accentuated, you can still sense it. I read too many book with love traingles and it starting to get boring.
Final Opinion: If you are searching for a YA paranormal book that will keep you reading and that will reschedule your schedule, than go and read “Shattered Grace”. You know what? Go and read it, anyway. No matter if you want a book that will reschedule your schedule or not. This is an amazing bok and it shouldn’t be missed.
I recommend it to: Fantasy and YA lovers.
Would I read it again: Yeah, I think so.
Do I want to read the sequel: There’s gonna be one, right? And yes, I would definitely read it!!

General Opinion: “Shattered Grace” it was a surprise. A good one, of course. Clearly, I read the book because the blurb sounded interested, but the book is much better than the blurb shows. It’s a complex, very complicated story, that can give you a headache sometimes, very strong characters, and an incredible mix between normal and fantasy. I can say that I’m still surprised by this book.Much better than I thought!:)
What I liked the most: The characters, definitely. They were very strong characters, very wel created and I fet like they were “coming out of the pages”. I don’t know if you understand, but I felt like they were real people.Sometimes though, Grace annoyed me very much!She was so stubborn and she was always saying that people were lying to her,but she never thought that maybe they did it to protect her.

I love to a throw a good paranormal book in the mix to shake things up a bit. Here’s the problem with paranormal books though, there is so much story to tell to make it all make sense that for some of them, I have find it hard for the book to keep my attention. That was the case with this book. (I know, boo! Hiss! Throw things, I know! I know!)
There are a few authors that seems to find the balance nicely, some examples; Nicole Williams (The Eden Trilogy), Shelly Crane (The Significance Series), Jennifer Armentrout (The Lux Series) – I would recommend any of those if you are looking for a good paranormal read.
I so wanted to love this book, but I’d say I liked it enough that I will probably read the sequel and give K. Anne Raines another read. The writing style itself wasn’t my problem, she was descriptive enough that I could picture everything happening. For me it was the story.
There were a couple times where I thought the story might pick up and then it would fall flat again. My partial frustration was with the love square that Grace had going on. Three potential love interests; Zeke, Quentin, and Darius. Zeke was the normal guy she went to school with who was absolutely adorable and all about Grace (although somehow he wound up with a girlfriend we never meet – but he still is all about Grace?) – huh? Quentin, The Guardian (and my favorite) who is here to protect her but also has feelings for her. Their push/pull relationship was frustrating at times but he was definitely my choice. He’s always going to be there for her! They are connected. Darius fills the bad boy role. I never trusted him and then even in the end, I still wasn’t all about him. I never really got why she was? And of course because I am Team Q – this whole Darius thing frustrated me to no end. I would have been happier if she fell for Zeke.
And that’s what I felt like this story was mostly about. Here she is, an eighteen year old girl who finds out she’s Chosen and she’s mostly worried about her raging hormones. My other frustration - I think I needed more action, more adventure… more ass kicking! Because even when the ass kicking came, it was other people who did it. She’s a Chosen for goodness sake!
I’m not really sure what the deal is with her and her cousin and where the second story is going to go…but I will probably give it a try and hope for the best. There is definitely a lot of potential to build on.

Extraordinary debut novel by Raines.
This Author is so brilliant with her words and descriptions. Look out Lauren Kate…you have big competition on the rise. Absolutely amazing!!
Would it be weird of me to describe this book as being an emotional packed contemporary, slammed with paranormal?
This story is brilliantly written and unique. I have yet to read a story like it as far as Angels and Nephilim working together to protect an object of importance from falling in the wrong hands. Starting the story with the death of Grace's grandfather, poor Grace is introduced to a life she never dreamed about. Do not underestimate Grace in any way! The Author made this character to be real with high emotions and incredible strength. As the story is weaved together flawlessly, we get introduced to Mr. Holy Hotness, Quentin. *sigh*. Oh, but wait, this Author also throws in Mr. Ripe and Ready, Darius. One of the things that I did admire was that Grace had chosen who she wants and doesn't deter from him. I personally wanted it to go another way, but no matter how much I yelled, "Are you crazy? Look at him!!" Grace was headstrong and determined in her choice.
Another thing I loved about this book was the placement of anticipation. Sometimes when you are expecting the big boom, you read as though any minute the book with shatter into pieces. The not knowing when, but knowing it is coming, places you at the edge of your seat until your legs start shaking, trying to keep you upright.
We also were introduced to so many wonderful characters that are a big part of this story. Each one has such important attributes of their own. One of my favorites was sweet Lux. Then there is Amanda….poor broken girl. Will she be able to handle her own battles and what important part does she have to play in this story?
This book gripped me right away and took me for a whirlwind ride. There is no cliff-hanger, however you are left with a want-hanger LOL.
If you haven't read this book. Get it read and devour it. You will laugh, cry, and love throughout the entire book. If you want to know what I mean when I say "Will hope be unbounded?" read this awesome book and find out for yourself.

I put off starting this book for a few days. Something inside me told that to start this book would be hard on me. And it was. This story is wonderfully written. So much so that as soon as you read the first line, you are in tune to Grace and her emotions. As many book lovers can attest, the greatest books are the ones that transform the reader into the main character. K Anne Raine has managed to do just that in this book.
Grace is seemingly like any other girl her age, which is a good thing. Too many authors take a teenager and write their roles as if they were adults so their mannerisms are all wrong. But Grace is exactly where she should be at her age. Quentin is a bit more complex than most others of his unique brand of being. He's definitely more human than I've encountered before. I can related well with Grace having grown up much the way she did. Where she cries for her grandfather, for me it was my grandmother.
I am still amazed at how well the characters are written. There was so much put into Grace that one can not help but "be" her while they read her story.You can feel every doubt, fear, worry that flows through the character as if it were your own. You smile at her high points, get choked up at her low points. You probably end up wanting to slap Quentin more than Grace does at time, and of course you absolutely fall in love him as well.
I have mixed feelings about Amanda though. Though her role in the story is very small, she does leave an imprint on the reader. I for one see Amanda as being Grace's polar opposite and can not for the life of me understand why she's that disturbed girl's friend! At the same time I can relate and understand too.. I had several Amanda's as friends growing up.
I like how Zeke is your typical boy in like. Darius I haven't figured out yet though.
Also, a big plus on K Anne's part for knowing what Melatonin is! It's a gods send in my house for restless children lol!
With completing the book I found myself a bit depressed since the second one isn't out yet.. I'll definitely be looking for it.
All in all this book is beautifully written and I can't wait to get my hands on the second book.

I am not personally one to read paranormal type of stories. Then again you have stories like these that just suck you into their world and captivate you. K. Anne Raines is an excellent author they way the story is told makes you feel part of it. The story starts off with grace being a few weeks shy of her 18th birthday. She is devestated when her grandfater passes because he is the only one that ever really accepted her for her unique gift. She has always been casted aside from other family members. Her father disappread 15 years ago and her mother was well not really there for her. While she is grieving for the loss of her grandfather she is approaced by Quentin he was her grandfathers lawyer. Sorry but that is all I can say here because I am not giving any more of that away.
Needless to say Quentin befriends her. He begins to hang out with her to keep an eye on her and make sure she is safe. During a concert at a local coffee house she come into contact with Darius. Ok now I am like she is stuck between two hotties. What to do? What to do? You have Quentin who is you typical swoon worthy male and you have Darius who is more the bad boy. Let's just say Grace spends some time with Darius and Quentin is not too fond of that idea.
In the middle of the whole love triangle Grace was also entrusted with a whole load of responsibility. No not the type of responsibility to figure out which hottie to go with it is more on like line of saving the earth and those around her. Being the 17 year old she does not want it and wants no part of it. In the end she has not choice to accept it and it is a long road for poor Quentin with a bratty 17 year old. I personally felt so bad for him.
Meanwhile, as Grace is in denial there is destruction surfacing at all corners. The question is will Grace stand up and take the responsibility that she was giving by her gransfather or will she just let it all go? I really cant go oon about much more becasue I do not want to give the story away. It is a definite must read.
