There was more to that handsome gun than she wanted there to be . . .

Fort Worth, Texas, 1878

Rachel Girard loves nothing more than her family’s sprawling cattle ranch. It will be hers one day. But when her father announces that she must marry or lose her inheritance, she’s furious.

She’ll obey but on her own terms.

Ex-bounty hunter Cal Delaney doesn’t regret giving up his guns, but he sorely misses the money. So when the cattle baron’s daughter offers him $20,000 to marry her–and then divorce her–he figures he’s got nothing to lose.

He’s wrong.

When Cal’s past comes to town in the form of a blood vendetta, he realizes he’s got everything to lose–his life with Rachel–the one thing he must risk all to keep.

I really do not know what to say about this story... It has not been bad although it has bored me a bit.
Both Rachel and Cal are very stubborn and intransigent people and each one has theirs reason to be. Rachel lives for his father´s ranch (which she hopes to inherit) and Cal has decided to give up his guns and change his lifestyle. Both need the other and although the agreement they reach should benefit both of them, they do nothing but argue and hinder each other. At the beginning it was funny and interesting, but after a while it become tedious, I was expecting for a change in the MC´s feelings or that they began to discover other sides of their relationship, but they are both so stubborn that have remained stagnant in this part of the relationship (the fights and little consensus one) too long for my taste...
The story has a good cast which gives depth to the plot; the villain is believable and realistic and Cal´s past is in keeping with the character. But I didn´t like the suspense´s outcome, I found it weak. Neither I liked the end; I failed to believe the MC´s and some of the secondary change of heart.
Despite all that, it is not a bad story. It will be that I am so overcritical about my westerns...

The author wrote about the Latino characters totally offensively - "half-breed" is so not an acceptable term - but it was thoughtlessly done, not malicious. I chose to roll my eyes at the author and keep reading, but other people might want to set the book on fine.

Once I got past that stuff in the early chapters, I really enjoyed the story. A marriage of convenience where a heroine promises a retired bounty hunter $20,000 to marry her then divorce her after six months so she can inherit her family's ranch? Sign me up! To sweeten the deal, the heroine's a total bitch who has to work on her attitude to win the hero. It's like it was written just for me.

Not bad for a $2.99 impulse buy on Amazon.

I really enjoyed this book. The premise was great. My only annoyance was that I had this book in my TBR pile for way too long before reading it, like almost 2 years ( I have a huge TBR pile)

I want to start by saying that I, in no way, enjoy giving a negative review and even though I believe this book had a huge potential, it missed the mark.

I liked the premise of the story but it could have been so much more. It moved much too slowly for me and I feel all could have been said in 225-250 pages instead of 316.

I didn't care for how the chapters flipped flopped around. It caused some mild confusion and wasn't the easiest to understand or follow. I so tried not to skip certain chapters. It felt as though most of the information was not really pertinent and the repetition became...well repetitious, boring (I am referring to the background info). I feel all the background information could have been covered in two chapters, one about his family and what happened and the second, the story of why Cal was being hunted. That would have made it informative, concise, and to the point instead of dragging out uninteresting info on the background of the scoundrels.

The characters had such potential but it never materialized. There was too much distance between the H/h.

Did not care for Rachel's temperament and hardheadedness. Cal, well, he acted way too much as though he could care less and his crudeness never seemed to waiver . I wish there would have been more softening from them both, at least toward the end.

Give the book a try. There have been many good reviews. My review is probably more about my tastes, likes and dislikes, in the books I read.
