Spencer and I have been enemies for as long as I can remember. Though it wasn't hard to fall into lust with him. And things seemed to be headed to love before unspeakable things happened to me...
Spencer was supposed to be my rock. My angel. He turned out to be none of those things. What he did hurt more then the tragedy. I don't think I will ever be able to forgive him...
Not that he hasn't tried to win me back over. His new actions leave me wondering if love can really forgive anything?
I live in southern Arkansas with my husband and young daughter. There is also an insane Boston Terrier running around. I've always been a lone wolf and find my friends in books. I started writing at a young age and I haven't stopped since. Most days you can find me either glued to my laptop or my kindle. My first novel, This Beautiful Thing was an Amazon best seller for 11 weeks and a year later I'm still tickled to see people enjoy it. I may not be a huge seller but I have the best fans ever and I thank God everyday for every single one of them.
2 Stars...not sure. It would've been a 4 star book had there not been so much drama, unbelievable drama, at that. It just ended up being far fetched and a bit ridiculous.
Also, I'm positive that no matter how hot Spencer was in real life, I would never take him back. The circumstances surrounding what he did WHEN he did...ugh, just no. There's no excuse in general, but for him to do that when he did, NO! The drama with the father was so unnecessary. All of the drama was just over-kill.
The book/story had great potential, but the execution was very poor.
What a mess!!! The H cheats on h with his ex-girlfriend when she's in the hospital after getting raped by 'his' friend. And then the h, later, gets to know that her dad is not her dad & that he had murdered her mother. And the local goon is her half-brother 🙄! And yes, of course, she forgives the cheating scumbag H.

I must confess, I thought this book was going to be a total fucking mess before I read it and I’d have to take a week to recover. I read this review online and it sounded like Spencer was going to do the unforgivable thing - cheat. Yep, I said it. There are hard fucking lines and this was one of them. I just don’t see how you can trust someone like that. There’s no excuse. It’s a done deal. Do not pass begin, do not collect $200. Take no prisoners and all that. The only exception I ever made was S.C. Stephen’s Thoughtless. That was within good reason.
Spencer Grady and Harley have been sworn enemies since they were five. When Spencer comes home for the summer after his girlfriend broke up with him he finds out his mom is selling the house to live with “sugar daddy.” Harley comes home for the summer to spend time with family and friends, her dad soon tells her he’s dating Ms. Grady. Spencer and Harley must now live under the same roof. Sparks fly and worlds collide. Things turn rocky in their relationship after a few incidents and then it was like diving off a cliff.
At first the book sounded promising to say the least. I mean I thought it was going to be like Checkmate by R. L. Mathewson. Alas it wasn’t even close. Firstly, from the first page I spotted the amateurish prose. There are very few people who can pull off present tense and sadly Heath is not one of them. There wasn’t much involvement from Harley’s brothers. I completely lost hope when I read what happened to Harley to be honest. There was nothing...authentic about the situation. It was like Heath just threw it in there..WTF?! Then there was that dick move, Spencer pulled when his girlfriend was recovering. Jeez, could you be anymore of a fucking asshole? After that it just when all freaking weird. With Harley miraculously recovering to her forgiving Spencer with that fucked up shit. Then there was that fucked up deed her father did. I didn’t get this fucking story what so ever. Moreover the book was too fast pace. I couldn’t really relate to the characters. This brings me back to Taking Chances. Everyone raved on that fucking book but honestly, it deserved to be hand delivered to hell.
Alright so now that I’m done with my ranting. I’ll just like to say, I’m not going to read the next book in this series.
Spencer cheats on Harley when she is in the hospital recovering from rape of HIS best friend Dylan. He is so devastated by the rape of the woman he loves that he drives back to LSU his old school and goes out drinking with friends and his old GF and "Fucks her brains out". He never intends to tell Harley. She finds out when she overhears him talk to Marissa, the ex, in her living room. She does leave but then She forgives him so easily. I just cold not excuse having sex while the girl you "love" is healing from RAPE in the hospital. He excuses himself and says he didn't enjoy it but she was coming on strong so he just had sex with her and "it meant nothing". Ruined everything, pointless.

Liked it...until the hero fucked up in such a big way, I skimmed to the end. No way the heroine should have taken him back! Seriously...no fucking way!!
This book pissed me off and put me in a shitty mood. Now I need to find something light-hearted and fun to read to try and get rid of the bad taste it left behind...
Really disappointing read. I expected sea of angst and depth and got shallow pond instead! Both h/H childish, book felt very contrived. Parts that I was suppose to feel angst though horrible still felt contrived and more telling than feeling --icing on the cake the H loved h oh so much instead of supporting her after horrible incident went out and cheated with ex! The h found out not because the douche told her but because she over heard him and said ex discussing it... I think h was meant to be strong and independent but instead just melted and panties dropped with just one look from the H ... at least would have dropped if she wore any smh! Honestly, based on synopsis should have been a good read but was not. I just didn't "feel" with this one - no depth. One if the other things that didn't add up? the parents are now living together and so both h/H living under same roof but both parents quite ok with them being together and sleeping together again felt too contrived cause I cant see protective father allowing this? So the douche's explanation to the h on his cheating ... almost sound like he felt it should count cause he didn't enjoy himself! he faked enjoyment! seriously? and the h forgave him so much for strong independent h... yeah this one was a regrettable read for me.

Much like other books I have read by Amanda Heath, 'Fire in her eyes' is not your typical YA book, the writing is almost darker and deals with some difficult issues. This book has a mix of young love, pain, heartache, true friendship, lasting love and most of all over the top DRAMA.
There are some minor mistakes throughout the book, which to some I know will find distracting, but overall I was able to overlook. The book does fit ALOT in for such a short read and it almost seems rushed in parts, the timing is a tad unrealistic too, and i have never known an author to put their characters through so much. However I do enjoy this authors talent to write a good story. This one is packed to the brim with an over dramatised plot, some resemblance of hope and dare I say love? The book follows the story of Spencer, Harley and their close friends. Be prepared for a rocky Road ahead readers the twists and turns are a mind mess.
I will most probably read future books by this author, 2.5 - 3 very dramatic stars from moi.
I've been stewing over this review for a day or two, trying to think how to go about it. I received the book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you. The book started off slow. Picked up pace about 20 pages into it and it was admittedly a fast read. (Only 140ish pages, I think) The story was entertaining but there were a lot of problems with it for me. 1) The dialogue is what I imagine to be a cross between Jersey Shore and Hillbilly Handfishin'. 2) Spencer's inexcusable discretion after the "main event" and the fact that it was so easily forgiven by Harley was unrealistic to me. Kind of skeeved me out, to be honest. 3) The plot twists were so contrived it was almost laughable. In fact, I did laugh. I'm pretty certain that was NOT the effect the author was going for. But if you need something quick and easy to read on a short flight between OH and Chicago or something, it would work if you couldn't get your hands on a new copy of your favorite magazine.
So far: immature and unimaginative - from writing and text/dialogue to the characters' state of mind and behavior. I can't find any likeable feature. And I really, really had enough with the guys and their dimples. They seem to overpopulate the fictional world. Maybe the series will get better. The 1st book I read by Amanda Heath was "This Beautiful Thing",which I liked. I had big hopes that things will improve no matter what series or story she'll come up with next. This one doesn't work with me. I don't know if I'll finish "Fire in Her Eyes". I'll see what I can select and then go straight to the end...
...after some time: I should have stopped. I did myself no good in continuing to read it. DISAPPOINTED!
Avoid. Worst book ever! "SHE FREAKING GOT RAPED. RAPED and he cheats on her!"
H cheats on the h, when she is in the hospital recovering from the rape (from HIS best friend ). He drives back to his old school and goes out drinking with friends and his old ex GF and "Fucks her brains out".
He never intends to tell h that he cheated. The h finds out not because the asshole told her, but because she over heard him and ex discussing the cheating. Ex was coming on so strong, he just had to have sex with her and "it meant nothing".
Why do authors insist on pairing the h with a fucking cheater? And I read that the h just insta forgives him because he's hot, and she cant control her vagina.
*WARNING/SPOILER* I must warn you that there is a scene of violence and rape, although the rape wasn't written in detail, Ms. Heath wrote it with care.

“Baby girl…I’m so sorry, baby girl. I’m so fucking sorry”. I sob. I didn’t even know I was crying. She’s looking back at me with a small smile on her face. Those eyes though, it breaks my fucking heart to see the fire gone. That hurts the most. ~ Spencer Grady
I felt that some of the verbage used at the beginning of the story was a bit immature for college kids. It did improve as the story moved forward. A job will done for Ms. Heath
Writing: -1 star Plot... 2 stars. Unexpected things happened but... they were also unbelievable. Or maybe it was the crappy writing that made it unbelievable. You can't even imagine how many times I just wanted to stop reading this book but I wanted to see what else would happen. Would aliens come to earth and help clear everything up and would all the humans just be like "Yo, dude, thanks for the help wanna go out for pizza? How about that game yesterday, it was crazy, eh?"
Easily the worst "romance" book I've ever read. The writing was terrible, the plot was unrealistic and the characters were unlikeable. Honestly in what world does a H who cheats on the h right after she's been raped deserve any type of HEA. Steaming hot garbage.
Harley and Spencer could have been best friends but they choose to be enemies. Note they are stuck together where there parents are saying and they are living together. Now both have admitted to liking the other after a kiss occurred between them and shocked than both.
When Spencer and Harley finally decide to date a tragic event happens sending their relationship spiralling out of control.
Harley starts spending a lot of time with Mason and neither Spencer or Lucy understand it but Harley feels safe with Mason so they let it be. After getting back on track another hurdle is thrown at the couple and now they have to figure out what to do with their future.
Good story the ending was a surprise and maybe not necessary to the story.
Well this book had me interested in the beginning. But I lost my interest.
I don't understand how many won't things happened.
Rape, Cheating, Murder, ew.
It was just so dumb. I think what kept on ticking me off was Mason. Harley thought he was hot. The author said in the hospital that he was pretty big in Spencer's POV and then contradicts herself when he's said to be a gang leader who Spencer then calls small. Then later on he's a drug lord, then a mob boss, then Harley's brother.
WTF
And then Halsey was just a horny girl who couldn't keep herself dry even while wearing panties, which she didn't even do until after she got raped.
Then Spencer just goes off to his ex girlfriend and screws her brain out while his current girlfriend is in the hospital for being raped THAT NIGHT by his BEST FRIEND.
WTF
Then there's Carter who is dating a Rockstar who drinks and always had Harley to tell her problems to since just cannot talk to her other best friends about her drunk Rockstar.
Then Harley's amazing dad. He was probably my favorite character because I mean what kind of girl wouldn't want a Marine Dad who cares for them and has a shotgun to use on CHEATING BOYFRIENDS, but then he's made a psychopath who killed his wife bc she was leaving him for the love of her life and the father of her daughter, and made it seem like a suicide.
WTF
I think that the only people I really led in this book are Harley's brothers whose names I forgot because suddenly they just don't exist anymore. Not even to come to visit their little sister who was raped.
And Polly well I don't even know about her. She's a tragic case. Sad.
Man. I can't believe what I've just read. I am at a fault between This Beautiful Thing and Fire in Her Eyes! I have to say that I'm probably loving Spencer more. I received this book as an ARC and I'll make it as simple as possible!
There was so much passion, emotion, and power in this book that moved me. Harley reminded me of myself. She was real, had FIRE and didn't take any crap. It was sad what happened to her and I could feel her pain. I know it had to be hard for her to cope with it!
Spencer.... My goodness! Can you say Book Boyfriend!?? I'm keeping him and nobody's able to take him. I call dibs! Spencer was just a confused guy! He was going through just as much as Harley was. He loved her and even through the faults, found a way to keep fighting for her. There is a HUGE twist in the book! I was completely shocked but it was fitting. You're unsure of who to trust as the tables turn, but trust me. You won't see it coming!!
I have to say, 5 BIG STARS!!!! This book is well worth the read. It is a must!!!!
This was very well written, not only was it truly captivating but it was constantly evolving from the start to the end.
Harley Maxton and Spencer Grady have this huge love/hate relationship but you can see the sparks flying between the two and that they shouldn't fight the attraction that is obviously there.
I liked how Spencer loved her even through the horrifc event that Harley went through he found a way to keep fighting for her.
Not only will this book take us on an emotional journey but the twists and turns of this novel will keep your heart racing and begging for more!
OMFG this book had me going through all the emotions, the pranks these two characters played on each other when they were younger were priceless,I haven't laughed so much in a long time..This book threw me for a sixer though with all the twists and turns it revealed, one minute I'm laughing the next I'm sitting there with tears pouring down my face..Definitely gets my 5/5 stars and my recommendation..Loved it!! Beautifully written even with the subject matter touched on within this book..
College age,but reads a bit younger. H and h have been nemesis since childhood as they grew next door neighbors blatantly fighting a sizzling attraction until the summer their parents move in together having fell in love. I almost dnf, then story got wild ... a violent rape perpetrated .H at a loss ,unable to cope cheats w ex while she is recuperating in hospital from attack\ rape.😩 Drama doesn't end there, huge Twist in storyline! Drags early on,sex heavy and felt high school vibes. Then as storyline picks up more darkly entertaining. I backplate rating between 3 and 4 stars.

Tragedy, Love, Surprise ... this book has all three! Remember when you were in school and there was that boy who always picked on you? Your mom probably said "It just means he likes you." Well this is how the story of Harley and Spencer starts. It is written from both of their perspectives, which I love. You no longer have to wonder what the other one is thinking, you get to read both sides of the story. And now a bit about the story ...
Harley and Spencer meet when they were five and not long after the picking and pranking started. They are neighbors but can't stand each other, or so they say. One summer when they are both home from college they surprise each other with a kiss. The surprise is they both enjoyed it. Then they found out their parents (Harley's mom died when she was younger and Spencer's dad has split long ago) are moving in together. One thing leads to another and they are in bed together (Surprise #1). Then tragedy strikes when Harley is drugged and raped by one of her "so called" friends. As Harley struggles to regain her spirit and the "Fire in Her Eyes", even more surprises come out. You'll have to read the story to find out how Harley overcomes her tragedy, falls in love and deals with all the surprises along the way.
Favorite Passage: "How in the hell do you stay in such great shape? ... You just seem so lazy to me." "I'm not lazy by any means. Sports are too competitive for me. Plus, I have to keep this amazing bod so I can get laid" He waggles his eyebrows at me. I lightly shove him. "Gross."
So the love-hate thing in the beginning was a rather obvious result for the both of them. Then the book does a complete 180 and the drama has no end.
*She gets raped *Spencer cheats on her the day she is released from hospital *She finds out and the great love ends.
*He tries to win her back *He does.
*Her father comes looking for her(who is dating his mother) *She then in turn finds out that he is not her real father *He killed her mother and real father *Mason(the guy that belongs to a gang that actually only does good things) is her brother.
I personally don't think I would ever forgive cheating, especially when I really needed him. He can literally cry me a river!
I have noticed that with all these books in this series, love conquers all. But sometimes love really is not enough.
well...it was a good book but had too many things going on simultaneously...plots which were not even needed were there...n wat to say abt Spencer...he might be the hero but I can't stand ppl who cheat n that too when Harley was the most vulnerable n needed him...how can u justify such act by saying that u were not in ur right mind n blah blah...
Well what to say. I enjoyed up to a point then the Jackass Spencer did something that I would never forgive and what was up with the twist the author gave Harley's dad???? I hope the 2nd book is about Lucy and Mason!!!
