It's difficult to find German-language books in the US that aren't titles some people collect (Winnie the Pooh, Harry Potter, etc.), so it pains me to give up on one that I carried home from Europe. But six or eight months into reading snatches of this, I must concede that it is langweilig. It appears to hew to the English-language model of literary fiction, where exciting things are allowed to happen in flashbacks but the present-day mostly contains people drinking tea and musing. It probably didn't help that its themes are similar to the Dutch novel I read most recently. I'm not saying I'll never finish this but I will stop pretending it will happen in the next week.

Gute Prosa. Überraschend vorhersehbar. Die Charaktere haben mich nicht überzeugen können aber das kann für jeden Leser anders sein.
