The Witchling #2

Autumn Storm

Rate this book
A girl with no memory, hidden in plain sight. A boy with no hope, freefalling into Darkness.

Autumn doesn’t know why she remembers a boarding school she’s never visited, or why her reflection isn’t always … hers. There’s another girl in the mirror, a dark-haired ghost that emerges one night to guide her to a cliff near the school. Only Autumn can’t remember what happened there and why it’s so important. Beck’s gentle touch soothes her distress while Decker’s every look sets her body on fire. Caught between the twins, she struggles to understand her instincts and magick while working through the pain caused by a mysterious car accident that left her disabled, barely able to walk.

Unable to recover from Summer’s death, Decker slowly surrenders to the Dark. He can’t live with the pain, and those around him keep Autumn’s secret too well. The guilt he feels when he falls for her – and betrays Summer’s memory – drives him farther from the Light, until he loses control and begins taking the souls of Light witchlings. As the protector of Light, Beck must choose between confronting his twin and watching more witchlings suffer. Decker realizes Beck has come between more than him and the witchlings. With neither of them willing to let Autumn go, they turn on each other.

Only one of them knows the truth. Only one of them will walk away, unless Autumn can find a way to save them both.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I recently read the unedited version of the first book in the trilogy, Dark Summer, on Wattpad. The premise intrigued me, and so it led me to the second book of the trilogy, Autumn Storm.

The world-building was as impressive as it was in the first, further elaborating on Decker's fall to darkness. The story was nicely paced - not too fast, not too slow.

However, it wasn't perfect by a long shot. For one, I would definitely have liked to see more development in Autumn's relationships with the others, not just the Turner twins. I was pretty disappointed to see that Biji appeared as little more than a calafare character. In addition, Dawn seemed too much of a typical antagonist. I like complex villians, and, to be quite honest, her mean behaviour seems completely without reason, and her motive for doing all that shit is terribly shallow.

On a more positive note, I liked the main characters much better in this book. Autumn was a wonderful protagonist - a nice, strong character, but realistically portrayed, with her fair share of struggles and imperfections. Decker, I've liked all along, despite his little strong-and-silent complex - the struggle he had with the Darkness was beautifully written, and it waa good to see an actual problem, instead of just some silly scuffle which is solved within two pages - which is quite common, I've realised, in YA books.

In summary, this was a lovely book that I enjoyed reading very much. The world-building impressed me the most, but the development of the main characters was equally good. I'll be looking forward to reading the final installation, that's for sure.

The second book to the Witchling series. I didn't read Summer Night before this book but I recommended that you read it before. It was actually required since it contained important story-line. I thought that Summer Night was more of the short second book rather than a novella. I enjoyed this book better than the first. Perhaps because the story was veering toward the magical world and magical problems.

Spoilers!!

The girl named Autumn arrived at the school of Magick. If you had read Summer Night, you would totally knew who she was. If you didn't, you would got the chance to enjoy her character unveiled but I guessed it was actually pretty clear who she was since the very beginning but not how or why. The names was pretty much totally cliché... seasonal Heroine names. However, the similar naming was handled pretty well into the story so I found it acceptable.

So Autumn arrived as new student. She was once again picked up by Beck who was then a Master of Light. Decker was also a Master of Dark who was pretty much on the path towards his own destruction after Summer 'died'. In this book, we got to read more about others since it was in multiple POVs. We also learned more of the world and the history of how the Dark and Light came about... most of all, the important duties of the masters. Beck finally grew up somehow and tried to act more maturely which was better but he still had a whole long way to go. Decker became a total slut... another cliche heart-broken Hero. I didn't like him much then since he practically slept through every females including Alexa, the ex that threatened and probably had the part in killing the love of his life and Dawn, the pregnant evil bitch ex girlfriend of his own twin. That was totally not COOL!! and I found it very disturbing.

Entered A blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl named Autumn who (let just faced it, you totally knew who she was) was pretty much the improved version of Summer. I totally cried a happy motherly tear when she finally talked back to Dawn. She did grow some spine so I definitely loved her much better as a character than Summer albeit baby step. Autumn was plagued with memories and a certain dark haired girl who appeared in her reflection. she also had a lot déjà vu. Obviously, when she came upon Decker, she knew something was wrong. She didn't like him instantly though which was good. She acted liked the first time she saw him, fearful and suspicious but of course there was definitely attraction. Their relationship was expectedly developed faster though. Beck was the third wheel in the relationship as usual but this time, he actually did invested some feeling in it and had a pretty good reason for it. The love triangle was once again appropriate approached. It was complicated but short and definitely not that annoying.

I actually loved Dawn's character here. Her character was cliché and totally rotten but she finally transcended from the Mean Girl to evil witch. I loved her better as a villain in this second book. The fighting scene was much better. I loved the story so far more than the overall characters. The ending to the second book was satisfying. The overall story was much improved than the first since it focused more on it.

This review may containg spoilers from book 1 and 1.5

Oh… my… glasses! And I thought “Dark Summer” ended in a huge cliffhanger! Compared to this one’s ending… it’s nothing. Thank God there’s the “Autumn Dawn” novella-sequel! I will probably go crazy if I don’t find out soon what’s going to happen.

OK. Now that I’ve had my crazy fangirl moment, it’s time I shared with you my thoughts about this book. First things first. If you haven’t read anything from this series, you don’t know what you’re missing. But if you have already read the first book, then I suggest you don’t skip the “Summer Night” novella before you read “Autumn Storm”, so you can enjoy the continuity of the story.

Thanks to Beck and Rania, Summer reincarnates as Autumn, to have a second chance to do what’s right and, more importantly, help Decker stand up to his Darkness. What’s really refreshing is how different Autumn is compared to Summer. Sure, she is the same innocent girl and has the same magical powers, but she is stronger, more able to stand up to herself. I think I could say that her death as Summer was necessary, as she wouldn’t have been able to help Decker as naive as she was in her past life.

Autumn can’t shake the feeling that she has been before to the boarding school, and already met some of the people who study there. And what I really love is how there is a connection between her and Summer, a ghost of herself, her past. Summer guides Autumn and tries to make her understand what her role is, but it’s very difficult since Autumn’s memories are being blocked with magic.

Decker goes crazy after Summer’s death, and he is fooled to believe surrendering to Darkness would solve all of his problems. He is trying to deal with the situation by doing immoral things, and I know that some people don’t like this sort of characters in books, but they should accept that not everybody is a role model. If an author chooses to write about such things, it doesn’t mean that the author is setting a bad example. On the contrary, I could say that he or she is showing the “how not”.

The action was fast-paced, and I would have liked more detailed descriptions of what the characters were doing and their surroundings. However, we get more insight into the Turner family and how the magic works, and that’s really great since the underexplained magic was one of the things that I didn’t quite like in the first book. I’m very hungry for this kind of things and even now, I still crave to find out more about everything.

There’s something magical in the way Lizzy Ford writes. Sometimes I wonder what kind of glue is put on the covers of her books, as I can’t put them down easily. “One more chapter” I tell myself over and over. You can’t help falling in love with her stories and before you realise you are addicted to one or more of her series.

My kindle now feels complete this is on it, I have seriously spent the past two days being antisocial so I can get up to date on this magnificent trilogy, I am addicted, If there was a club I would defiantly be a member maybe we can have badges and mugs? Everyone loves a good badge.

The first person we meet in this book is Autumn, a little coincidental right? But as people will work out quickly Autumn is in fact summer but with no memory and a disguise crafted by Beck and Decker's Mom she she can have a fresh start and a chance at writing her wrongs without any outside interference.

Autumn believes she lost her memory in a horrific car accident that has left her with a metal knee and scars over most of her body. No one at the school knows the truth about who she is, instead it is up to Autumn to make the past right by choosing the right path and passing a magical test.

Autumn begins to have flash backs of Summers memories but has no idea what they mean, she finds a strong connection to Beck and an attraction to Decker but which boy will Autumn choose to trust and let into her life? Even as the reader you find yourself torn between teams and not knowing who would be better for her.

Autumn has grown so much since the first book, she is now fiercely independent and not afraid to fight and face her own battles. She has already been through so much emotional and physical pain that not much phases her anymore.

I also enjoyed seeing how much Beck has matured and grown into his role of Master of the Light, he is much more involved in this book then the first and I glad I have had the opportunity to get to know his character better.

Decker you can tell is in bad shape, he has lost all sense of self wort since 'Summers' death and is dealing with his new role as Master of the Night and Fire in a bad way, but underneath it all you can clearly see that he wants to be a better person he has lost all hope and maybe Autumn will be the person to give him that hope. I sometimes found it a struggle to comprehend Decker's actions within the book especially when it came to females, it was sometimes a little off putting and turned him away from being the Night in shining (well black) armor.

Overall another excellent read from the amazing Lizzy Ford, Now my only problem is I have no idea when the next book in the series is out but fingers crossed it is soon as I need my next fix now, this series is addicting!

5/5 again for this series!

I was counting down the days, hours, and minutes for "Autumn Storm" to be released. I read it from front to back in one sitting; I could not put this book down (so cliché, I know...but it is so very true). It is going to be hard for me to write a review on this book without giving too much away, but here goes nothing.

At the end of "Dark Summer" (book one in the Witchling Trilogy) the main character Summer was pushed off of a cliff and assumed dead. Lizzy Ford released the novelette "Summer Night" (book 1.5 of the Witchling Trilogy) which answered some lingering questions that "Dark Summer" leaves you with. I think it was an amazing idea; it tied everything together, making the reader even more excited for book two.

Summer gets a second chance to prove herself in “Autumn Storm” but it comes with many risks. Summer has lost all memory of her life before the tragic fall; she is told that her name is Autumn and that she was in a really bad car accident. When she goes back to the school she attended as Summer, memories start to come back but she is still in the dark about what is going on or who she really is.

We meet all of the characters again, but this time in a different light. I couldn't get enough of Autumn's “new” discoveries. My favorite characteristic of Autumn is the fact that she is the definition of a fighter. She fought back in so many ways throughout the novel; she fought through physical and emotional pain, and ends up fighting in an epic battle at the end of the book.

Decker is back and darker than ever; his twin Beck is also back and nicer than ever. I was having a hard time choosing which twin I wanted Autumn to wind up with. But true love and attraction cannot be denied, and Autumn finds herself drawn to the twin she is meant to protect.

Lizzy Ford’s writing flows so well and is so very smart; one can only respect her ability to write a truly great novel. Ford takes “Autumn Storm” to a whole new level, and I am once again highly impressed.

Once again Lizzy Ford has done it again and written a book that ou just can't put down! My only complaint is that I wish the book was longer it ends fairly abrupt leaving cliffhangers like the last books. This book gave the characters more depth. You get to see Beck trying hard to assume his role as Master of Light and how this affects him as he struggles to do everything right. Through her pain Autumn/Summer has developed more a backbone(which you can't help but like) this helps her when dealing with everything going down in this book. You can she that she's become more self-possessed. I believe the Summer from the first book wouldn't have been able to stand up to Decker like she did o if the author had written it that way I'd have been hard pressed to believe it. Mostly we see Decker's pain and you just want to take away the pain. I may just have a soft spot for grim reaper/death incarnate bad boys though :/ I would recommend it to others for sure.

Wow. Just wow. I was thoroughly irritated with miss ford after dark summer. Then I lost track of time and found out autumn storm was available- I went immediately to Barnes & noble and bought it. At first I was a bit confused, but I caught on quick and couldn't put it down. It's the weekend after thanksgiving and I am more concerned with reading this book than shopping!

Anyway, as we know in the last book summer makes poor choices & ends up over a cliff. In the 1.5 novella we find out she is alive & is in the hospital & a deal is struck for a second chance-- if you want the details, you better go buy the books. Now to this book- I like how Lizzy makes it plausible on how no one recognizes summer, I like how dark decker is, and I like all the sub characters and how they each have a purpose.

Lizzy doesn't disappoint. 5 stars

Autumn Storm Cast

Anger gives you strength to fight. Love gives you the reason.

Autumn Storm definitely didn't suffer from sequel syndrome. I couldn't put it down. It was chock-a-block full of the same awesomeness that was Dark Summer. See my review HERE.

There'd been no escape. Unable to move or cry, she'd been lost in the pain for days, until she woke one day and decided she had to survive. If she hadn't died, there was a reason. Something was waiting for her on the end of her recovery. She just had to make it that far.

After spending 3 months recovering from an accident that left Autumn with severe memory loss, she moves to the boarding school in Priest Lake, Idaho which brings on inklings of familiarity, but she can't figure out why. Discovering the world of Light and Dark, meeting the Masters and figuring out her own magics all while suffering constant pain keeps Autumn on her toes, but she's determined to save a stranger from himself & the darkness that wants to take him. She just knew she had to.

Tin Man

I just wasn't sure I could fall in love any further, until I met her. Damn. She girl is oh-so tough. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. She was pure amazing. I fell in love all over again. When you read it you will know what I mean.
One and the same, yet so different: One gentle and innocent while the other was hardened by pain.

She has a bunch of road blocks jamming her up every which way. Her mind seems broken. And her body is beyond repair. Does she let her luck of the draw tear her down? No way, not on your nelly! She knows something's up, but she just doesn't know what. I love me a girl that knows her own mind.

Fear
His magick was compelling, but terrifying, like the devil offering a deepest wish without revealing the price.

Of course there was talk of dark and light witchings, the fantabulous Dark Master of Fire and Night, the trying harder Master of Light (which has moved up a cover of notches since the first book) and the insanely nasty Dawn that I just wanted to stab over and over with a fork.

Mostly I just swooned into the pages that Decker and Autumn felt that tug. The push and pull of something that had them both in equal turmoil, confusion & denial.
Fire tore through her, evaporating what was left of her control and making the furnace in her lower stomach blaze. In that moment, she knew she'd not just let him do what he wanted, she'd beg him to.

The brothers strained relationship, the amazing family binds and learning to discover yourself and love transported me into a world I didn't want to leave. There are so many characters and wonderful moments worth mentioning inside the pages of Autumn Storm. Biji. Summer & Tarzan's ghost. Sam. Rania & Michael. I fell further in love during this installment.

Summer's warmth and Autumn's transformation. You have the beauty and courage of both.

This book had me in tears, over and over. For the broken Master of Dark, for Rania, and for Autumn who was so much more. This series is one of my new faves, if you haven't started the trilogy you are missing out.

Decker & Summer forever ♥
"You don't have to ask. I'm yours, Decker," she replied firmly.
"How can you say that, knowing all that you do?"
"I went through everything I did to save you, Decker. I won't lose you now." Her voice quivered. "I can't. I'm going to protect you from the Darkness. I wasn't strong enough before, but I am now, and I'm going to, because I love you too much to let you go."

Loved it!!! Autumn was amazing and her mission was almost impossible, almost, Thank god!

I'm taking one star off because there are still too many loose ends and I feel like we should have been witness to Decker finding out the truth of everything that happened the night Summer fell, I hope we can see some of that in the novella or in the 3rd book.

*Spoiler-ish Warning*

After devouring Dark Summer then the Summer Night novelette, & being shocked into a teary mess with the cliff hanger that Summer had died & was some how reincarnated into autumn!!
i was, desperate...desperate for some answers!
Which thankfully lizzy gave me but turn me into a emotional mess yet again!...lol
description

Autumn Storm sheds the whimsical teenage naivety of dark summer & thrusts both the reader and the chracters into a harsh and painful reality.

With Summer's death weighting heavily on his shoulders, Decker goes well to put it simply, he goes utterly insane & is trying to block out the pain with anything possible. Sex, Drugs, Women nothing seems enough to numb out the pain of losing his one true love.
I couldn't help but feel Sorry for decker, after reading the beautiful love affair between him & summer I was heart broken to see his internal struggle with the darkness but I was also insanely mad when he began sleeping around with hundreds, yes I said hundreds of women only a couple of months after her death. All I wanted to do was punch him in his stupid sexy face..description
Tho The Internal struggle he had towards his feelings about autumn & not wanting to betray summer's memory got him off the hook.
"With a sob, he realized Summer's memory was best honored, by  doing what was right, no matter how hard it was or how much it Hurt. " Decker.
Awwww... Poor Baby..
description

Autumn was cool & strong I mean really strong. After going through all the pain of her "accident" you think would she would just crawl into her little shell but she didn't. she took the master of darkness ( even dawn!) Head On &  I loved how she didn't  play into decker's little game of seduction...
"The master of Darkness, Apparently the Master of Seduction was a better Title for him." - Autumn
She stayed true to herself and her own feelings. Which I really admired...Yes I was in total like with her but I just couldn't love her like I did summer.

Beck finally came into his true self as the Master of Light, protecting his family & the light Witchlings at any cost. He was was soo sweet, especially  when  he was trying to protector autumn from Decker & decker from Himself. Nawwwww brotherly love.

Would I Reccomend it? Yep Yep!
Would I Re-Read it? Maybe.
Would I Read More in the Series? Umm.. Hell yes! Unless I wanted to make myself go total Bananas from not knowing!

Well done Lizzy Ford......now where is the next book?????

First I want to tell you to go grab "Summer Night" (book 1.5 of the Witchling Trilogy), before you read this book. It will answer any question you have, as well as blending the three books together. It starts off at the end of the first book and ends where book two starts. It is a fast read but you will put it down feeling full of knowledge and ready to conquer your deep craving for Autumn Storm.

Lizzy Ford is a spectacular writer! She hits on every want, need and desire a true reader expects to have when picking out a book. The writing and story telling of Lizzy Ford is awesome. Once again another Author that confounds me, as to how her imagination can produce such a story. I will tell you right now Ford will provide you with all your expectations. Probably adding some you didn't even realize you had.

I am so ultimately impressed with Autumn, the main character of this book, and how the Author built such a great force of strength with her. Autumn is not your typical beauty at all, in fact she is scarred and marred from all ends. For me, she made this book, she will not accept self pity. The actual strength of her personality, the endurance she accepts daily to recover, as well as the positive believes she has brought a little reinforcement back to me.

I want to give you a little glimpse into book but not give away any juicy details. Yes, before you have a heart attack the Twins are back. Beck is still sweet, kind and loving. Still learning about the new title he has. Where as Decker my gorgeous Decker is fury on wheels. We still have old enemies as well as the yeti Sam. I am sorry but I love Sam. Perfect addition to this series. You are returned back to the school. But now are brought new obstacles, trials, and tribulations you will be sent through. We have some huge secrets, that only limited people know about. Which gave me antz in my pantz wanting to spill the beans. The whole time thinking “someone” would realize, who “someone” really was....nope not happening!

Now what I have to say is this. Up until 6 months ago, I had no idea who Lizzy Ford was. Tsk Tsk Now I am her official stalker. Do not miss out like I did. You will positively LOVE and DEVOUR these books. Then you will turn around and begging your friends to read the books too!!!

Um wow!. My heart is still beating so fast right now. That ending! Omg.. Lizzy ford you rock my world. I loved Decker before but now! I loooove him so much more. He's all dark and brooding but he's got love and compassion there that is waiting to come out. Autumn brings that out in him if even just for a second. Even Beck is falling for Autumn again and he knows who she truly is. And Dawn.. Uh! What a huge B. She is nothing but evil and cares for no one but herself. Not even her baby. All she wants is money and she will do anything to anyone who stands in her way of what she wants.

Beck is trying to be a good Master of Light and protect the light witchlings. He doesn't have anyone to show him the way and he's loosing the battle. He's trying hard to keep Autumn away from his brother Decker but their connection for each other is strong. Stronger than he thought and its only a matter of time before Autumn goes to Decker. Beck can't let him hurt her like Summer. He'll fight to the death if he has to.

Even though Autumn doesn't know who she is she can feel she belongs to Decker. She has since the first time they met. She knows him but every time she starts to remember something it's gone in an instant and a terrible migraine is there to replace it. Autumn is a fighter too but in a different way. She's fought the pain her body goes through ever since her accident. She came through when no one believed she would. A second chance at life and she was not going to let anything stand in her way.

Decker is loosing his battle with the darkness and he welcomes it. He wants it to take him away to save those he loves and to not have to feel the pain he feels from loosing his mate Summer. He feels something for the first time after Summer and its because of Autumn. She calms him in a way that Summer did. He doesn't feel he deserves a second chance. He's the opposite of Autumn. He wants to lie back and let the darkness consume him

Autumn, Beck, Decker. Three strong beings destined to save the world of the witchlings but will they win this battle or kill each other to save themselves. Oh my Wow! This second book was even more exciting than the first and I can't wait to see how this all turns out.

Recap
Summer's soul has been saved by Becker and Rania and now Summer has a second chance as Autumn. Autumn doesn't know anything except that she woke up three months ago after a car accident with no memory and with terribly painful injuries. Now she's arrived at the witching school, where she meets Beck and Decker, again. Once more she is drawn to Decker, but he has almost completely lost his mind to the darkness. Beck, too, is struggling in his role as Master of the Light, to protect Autumn and all the other light witchlings from Decker. When Dawn and Alexa attack, Autumn is confronted with her trial, the one that will ultimately determine if her soul has been redeemed. She must lure Decker back to himself to protect the world from unchecked Darkness.

Liked
I liked Autumn. I could see Summer in her compassion and bravery, but I could also see how her experiences over the last three months had made her a stronger, more capable person.
I liked the dynamic between Decker, Beck, and Autumn. They were all dealing with so much personal pain and uncertainty, yet still trying to do the right thing for each other. The author did a good job illustrating how all of them felt trapped by their situations.

Disliked
I found some of Decker's guilt over Summer's death confusing, and it was odd that he had never found out the details about what happened that night. It was also highly frustrating that we never got to experience in this book the moment when Autumn remembers who she was. Dawn and Alexa's motivation in the big confrontation scene were unclear. I know they each wanted the boys romantically, but it seemed like Dawn and Alexa also wanted Beck and Decker to fight over Autumn. Why?

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
*SPOILER ALERT*
This is the second book in the Witchling Trilogy by the amazing Lizzy Ford and let me just tell you, this book is just as amazing as the first one. In this instalment, Summer is now Autumn due to the unfortunate accident that took place in Dark Summer. Autumn doesn't remember anything from her last life, although she does keep getting glimpses of the past. Unbeknownst to her, Autumn must save herself and Dreker from Darkness. All odds are stacked against them. Who prevails Dark or Light?
I decided that I like Autumn better than Summer because she has overcame more heart ships. For one she survived the terrible accident and now she is "crippled" and she has to find a way to get Deker to save himself from darkness so everyone can be happy. Beck is a better character in this book because he knows what is going on and has to keep it a secret or fear of ruining everything. Also he isn't as much of an ass as he was in the last book. Dawn is still a bitch, but now she is a crazy, pregnant bitch.
This series is top notch! The bad part is now I have to wait for the third book to come out. It comes out in 2013 I just don't know when. It better be soon, or else (shaking fist). Thank you again Lizzy Ford for a great read!!

Autumn Storm by Lizzy Ford

The author is killing me in how she leaves the endings DYING FOR MORE!!! It is a powerful, magical, awe-inspiring ending. I literally couldn't put the book down stayed up late to finish it!! The author has out done herself again!!! I loved the way it was written and love the story line. It is so unpredictable to me, I just can't help wanting and begging for more!! I can't wait to read Autumn Dawn next!! This is being put in my favorite books!! I just love the characters and you can watch as they develop through the series and change to become more mature. Wonderfully enjoyable read!!

This book starts where Summer Nights novella left off. Autumn Nathanial has no memory of her past, scars from head to toe from an accident she doesn't remember, and is being haunted by a dark haired girl she has been seeing in the mirror since she woke up. Every time a memory might surface she gets a migraine and nose starts to bleed. When she starts school at a boarding place for magical witchlings, she has a vague sense that she has been there before and has meet some of the people she is in contact with. Why can't she figure it out? Who is this dark haired girl? When she meets the Master of the Dark, Decker, she can't shake that they are meant to be. Why is that? I give this book a 5 star review!!

A girl with no memory, hidden in plain sight ...

A boy with no hope, spiraling into Darkness ...

Only one knows the truth, and only one has the power to save them.

Autumn doesn't know why she remembers a boarding school she's never visited, or why her reflection is sometimes that of a ghost named Summer. She struggles to recover her memories and understand the warnings conveyed through her magick. Caught between the Turner twins, she isn't certain who to trust: Decker, the mysterious Master of Dark, who makes her heart catch, or Beck, the cautious Master of Light, whose touch soothes her pain.

Unable to recover from Summer's death, Decker slowly surrenders to the Dark. The guilt he feels when he falls for Autumn - and betrays Summer's memory - drives him farther from the Light, until he completely loses control and takes the souls of Light witchlings.

As the protector of Light, Beck is caught between his allegiance to his twin and his vow to protect new witchlings. He must keep the Darkness from consuming his brother for if Decker fails, he'll take down only person who has a chance of saving them all.

Jaw dropping emotional ride...

Lizzy has done an amazing job once again!!
This was the second book of Lizzy's that I have read & by no means is the last...

WOW! Autumn Storm is an amazing sequel to the first book in this series! After the massive ending to Dark Summer I couldn't wait to read this book and I loved it! The plot was so amazing that I didn't want to put the book down until I had finished it! I wasn't sure about having a new main character in this book but I remained open-minded about it and I am so glad I did! Autumn was an amazing main character! She was strong and I felt so sorry for her for what she had been through! Decker and Beck were back in this book They were both still hot though and I loved their relationships with Autumn! Autumn Storm was told from Autumn's, Decker's and Beck's point of views which I loved because I got to feel what the twins felt for Autumn! The ending was action packed and another massive cliffhanger was left! I cannot wait until I get my hands on the next book in this series! The cover suits the new cover for the first book in this series perfectly!

The 2nd book in the Witchling Trilogy does not disappoint. Autumn is recovering from an accident and is sent to the same school where she, as Summer, almost died. Of course, no one knows that. After reading this book, I just can not wait for the final book. I loved the ending and it was definitely not what I expected but I loved it anyway.
Hey Lizzy - thanks for another great book!!!!

Both of these books were authored by Lizzy Ford and I must say that I am very impressed with her level of imagination, along with her ability to portray the worlds and spirits of Light and Dark.

Dark-Summer_coverAutumn-Storm_cover

RATINGS:

DARK SUMMER: A

AUTUMN STORM: A+

COVER DESIGNS:

DARK SUMMER: I love the purple words against the dark background. It’s a very magical cover; spirit animal and all.

AUTUMN STORM: Perfect. The golden colors with the hint of orange is a perfect representation of the season of Autumn. Beautiful.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT DARK SUMMER: The twins were so fantastic and realistic. I love anything with reference to the seasons. I’m so in love with Decker that I was getting jealous of the girls in the book (He reminds me of a younger version of Darynda Jones’s Reyes Farrow in the grave books: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/first...). I also really enjoyed the new “modern” Hogwarts she sort of created. Being of Wiccan belief, I enjoyed the realistic representations in this book. For example, (Spoiler alert) “Amber hopped off the table and drew a crystal and some sage from the bag between them. She lit the sage, tired the crystal to its base, and blew on the fiery herb until smoke puffed towards Summer. The rich, earthy scent was comforting.” Great job Lizzy! Also, thank you for being brave enough to include sexual relations between minors; it made the books that much more relate-able.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE ABOUT DARK SUMMER: Nothing!

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT AUTUMN STORM: First of all, let me say that book #2 was 110% better than #1. While I didn’t dislike book #1, I gave it an A- rather than an A+- because of the… speed, I guess; there were a few moments in book one when I felt it progressed a little slowly. However, that being said, book #2 did not do this at all and that is why it got that little + sign next to its A. I could not put this book down, but was forced to so I could go to sleep. Finishing it this morning was like finishing a very important mission; my life depending on it… That’s also why I drank 3 cups of coffee! I would not give up until I finished this amazing book! It was powerful and some scenes even left me speechless from their impact. It was highly emotional; it made me cry. laugh, worry, hope, and cheer for the characters and the story itself. I enjoyed the way the author conveyed subtle references to book #1 without overdoing the reiteration of Dark Summer. I do, however, find myself wondering about Biji more and more as I read this series and hope to see her story soon; or at least a short novella about her- hint hint, wink wink.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE ABOUT AUTUMN STORM: While there was nothing about the actual story that I didn’t like, I did find quite a few editing errors, but I sensed that the author was just as engrossed in writing it as I was in reading it and her fingers typed faster than her brain could comprehend. None of these errors took away from the story, but rather added to it. Like I said, I sensed that the author was seeing these scenes in her head and her fingers were flying across the keyboard without her control… This, made it obvious that the scenes were just as emotional to the author as they were to the reader and made me realize just how much the characters meant to her as she was writing and probably still do.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: This author has amazing talent and I believe she will continue to write amazing stories. I will definitely be on the lookout for the next book and be waiting impatiently until I can read about Decker, Beck, Summer, and Biji again!

Dove right into this book after the cliffhanger ending of Dark Summer. It wrapped things up nicely, though I had a hard time not yelling at the characters to just TALK TO EACH OTHER.

My biggest issue came at the end. After the climax had wrapped up nicely and we knew what was going to happen there were still like 10 more chapters detailing every single interaction between the characters over the next week. Seriously. I was trying to finish the book so I could go to sleep and I kept being like, "Why is there another chapter???? Can't you just end already????" It could have wrapped up so much faster.

Also, apparently this is a 4 books series, but the entire story arc has concluded at the end of Autumn Storm. Yeah, there are still some outstanding plot threads..... but nothing that REQUIRES another story to be written. Some of the extraneous chapters at the end were trying to set up for the next book, but came off as really contrived.

Overall, a satisfying conclusion to the story that began in Dark Summer. Still not Lizzy Ford's best work.

4/5 stars

It jumped into this sequel with ease. It starts off 3 months later, from where Dark Summer ended. But of course, you're aware that Autumn is Summers' soul reincarnate, or somehow connected to her in a supernatural way. The amnesia, amulet, scars, ghost, and dejavu clues us in on the obvious, including her "seasonal" name. So, it starts off with "Autumn" on her way back to the place where it all started... But this time around, things play out very differently. Oh and she meets Beck first, again.

Further, I really loved Autumn! No pity party. No lack of self-confidence. She was independent, strong, and brave. She definitely fights for what she wants, and I liked that she stood up for herself constantly. But Autumn = Summer!! I can't wait to see what happens when everything is realized/revealed.

I also enjoyed seeing Beck grapple with his role as the Master of Light. And Decker, his struggle with the Darkness, the guilt, anguish, and especially his passion for Autumn really showcased the layering of each character. They weren't just one-dimensional, predictable characters. The whole Beck-Autumn-Decker triangle was written well, dripping with thick tension from each page. I was pleasantly surprised. And even in the midst of all the confusion, there's an undeniable bond/love between the brothers. Complicated, suspenseful, and dramatic. YES, YES, AND YES. All positives.

However, I didn't like how Dawn and Alexa were portrayed. I get that there needs to be a Mean Girl character. The villain. Good v. Bad. But sometimes, it's not always so black and white, right? And, in Dawn's case, she was a Light witch. Yet, her motives were so shallow, and petty. It's hard for me to believe that she'd go so far, solely because of her jealousy and Beck's trust fund. And with Alexa, I'm hoping for some answers in the next book, because I wasn't satisfied with the sparse explanation of Alexa's involvement in all the drama.

Also, I was mildly put off by Decker whoring it up. I get that he was grieving, and mindless sex and threesomes are a part of the Darkness, but I couldn't help feel repulsed by his actions. If he loved Summer as much as he claimed, how could he do that? He should have had some respect? I was also REALLY FRUSTRATED that he didn't talk to Biji about Summer. UM, are you serious dude? That needs to happen ASAP.

Lastly, although I knew Autumn = Summer, I couldn't help but feel guilty for rooting for Autumn and Decker. It shouldn't matter, b/c they're one in the same, but still...Autumn looks nothing like Summer. And even their personalities were complete opposites! I guess it's the "soul" inside that matters... But it kind of got very confusing for me. I'm curious to see how the whole Autumn/Summer thing will get resolved. Will Summer stay in Autumn's body? Are they one in the same? Or does Autumn somehow have her own identity/soul? I don't know. Summers' soul is still intact, but how? Didn't she turn dark? How is Autumns' soul light then?

I can't wait to find out!

Update:
I was given an ARC of the newly updated version of this book in exchange for a review.

I literally just finished the book and ran to the computer to jot down my thoughts. I'll divide it up into PRO/CON categories:

PROS:
-The book gave me all the closure that I needed! In my previous read, I was left begging for the next book because it ended when Autumn and Summer were merging. This version gives me all the closure and Decker/Summer goodness that I want. It also gave me a bunch of Beck stuff that I didn't even know I wanted.
-Decker is "less evil" than in the previous version. I hope I'm remembering it correctly, but I'm pretty sure we lived through a lot more of Decker's darkness in the previous version. This version really sold me on him being able to be saved.
-I love Autumn so much more than original Summer. She is one tough cookie.
-DECKER. I heart Decker.

CONS:
-This version was much longer than the last one I read, leading to a few draggy spots and *A LOT* of repetition (i.e. explaining what happened to Summer, who Sam is, what's happening to the light/dark balance, etc etc). You can kind of tell where the books were stitched together.
-There are some editing issues. I say some because I tended to skip over a bunch of them without noticing until later. For example, Decker knows Autumn's name, then doesn't, then does again.
-Typos. And formatting. I converted my PDF version via Amazon so that may have messed some things up but there were instances of plough/plow and guy/girl (I assume, the typo was not obvious) and a few other things that grabbed my attention.

So, overall, I still really loved the story. This story was a lot more my kind of struggle filled, tough chick tale :-) I could have done without the introduction of Beck's story (which I assume will be #3), but it was probably needed to set up the next book properly. One more edit and I think it would be AMAZING. That being said, I'd still read it a third time just to read the Decker/Autumn living room scene again.

Previous Review:
Bring me the next book right now! I am loving these witchling books so much right now. The storyline is so addictive that I had to force myself to take breaks. Autumn is one tough main character and Decker is still my fave. I cannot wait to start the last of these books, but will be sad when the trilogy is finished.

I was worried that this story was going to be a repeat of the first one given that Summer was turned into Autumn. A little bit of it was, which you'd have to expect, but it wasn't a repeat of everything. The story is good. Overall, there are elemental magick users in the modern world that practice either dark or light laws. There's a struggle for balance, and balance between these two forces must be kept or evil very well could take over the world. Due tot he ordeal of what happened to Summer over the summer, Decker is battling more than just the call to let the Darkness overtake him. Autumn, who is Summer, is drawn to the troubled and dark Decker, and also has to keep her own head above water while she completes her second trial out of the darkness herself.
It really is a good story. Here's what kept it from getting 4 stars: Inconsistencies with titles from first book to second book. In the first book, Decker's title was Master of the Fire and Night, whereas it was Master of the Dark in Autumn Storm. Things happen in the final scene where someone, who isn't even introduced says something, and then is gone and there isn't any other reference to him. I.G. "It was just Autumn, Alexa, and Dawn in the clearing. Dawn asks Alexa 'Where should we go?' 'Depends on what direction you want to go,' says the guy." <-- that is exactly how it is. Who is that person? Where did they come from? Why were they there? Where did they go? Those questions are never answered. There are a lot of sentences that aren't finished, or different names are used when someone else's should have been. And then what made it hard to read is there is a character who speaks telepathically and there are no quotation marks for him. What does Lizzy Ford have against italics? They're a wonderful tool to stress telepathic messages or thought. Once more, it felt like you were reading a first draft of a story.
This is what tends to make me mad as a reader. I read a book nearly every day. I expect certain things from every book just like someone would expect from any other item that they purchased. I want consistencies, editing, and the best form of the story you can put out. That is not too much to ask from any author. I suppose it really irritated me this time around because I enjoyed the story, yet the execution of it left me feeling ripped off.

Autumn Storm continues off book one Dark Summer, right after the events in it. First, I want to tell you to read Summer Night from the Trilogy, before you read this one. It will answer any question you have, as well as blending the three books together. It starts off at the end of the first book and ends where book two starts. It is a fast read but you will know what happened after that horrible night. Lizzy Ford is a spectacular writer! She knows what buttons to push to get you in the story!
We follow Autumn, now a new student at the school that Summer also attended. But, she’s healing from a horrific accident and appears to be the opposite of everything Summer was. Starting anew, she learns about light and dark magic, and she tries to find a way to save Decker from the darkness that wants to destroy everything he loves and the world around him. I am impressed with Autumn and her strength. She isn’t your typical beauty at all, in fact she is scarred from that terrible accident. Beck is still sweet, kind and loving. Still learning about the new title he has. Where as Decker is angry all the time.
The ending keeps you hanging on about how Decker and Autumn's story ends. I can't wait to see what happens to Beck and Decker in the next book. I am also curious to see how Autumn/Summer integrates back into the school, as well as seeing how other characters turn out.
You will positively love these books. This installment had me on edge the entire time. I am totally addicted to this series. It made me want to see what happened next, had me crying at the horrors that happen to many of the students. Lizzy Ford’s writing flows so well, one can only respect her ability to write a truly great novel. Definitely a paranormal series I will completely drop everything to read!

**This review may contain a spoiler or two**

Autumn Storm is the second book in Lizzy Ford’s Witchling series. The first book, which I’ve also reviewed, is Dark Summer.

In Autumn Storm, new girl Autumn shows up at the school for witchlings in Priest Lake, but Autumn has a secret. And the only people who know her secret are Beck, Beck’s mother, and Sam.

While at school, Autumn begins to realize that things and people start to seem very familiar to her, but yet she cannot figure out why. She does befriend a girl named Biji, and she also has Beck as a friend, although she is hoping for more. However, when Beck’s ex, Dawn, finds out about Autumn, she plots revenge. If she can’t have Beck, no one can.

When Autumn stumbles across Beck’s twin brother, Decker, she immediately feels a connection to him, even though he terrifies her. he also feels it, and he thinks maybe being with Autumn can help him move on.

As Autumn struggles to figure herself out, and understand why she keeps seeing a dark haired girl, Decker struggles with his feelings, and Beck struggles with his duties as Master of Light.

Things come to a head with Dawn, the cause of everyone’s problems, and Autumn ends up facing off with Decker as he loses himself to the Darkness. In doing so, she discovers the secret that’s been kept from her, and everything starts to fall into place.

I can’t really say much about this book without basically spoiling the whole entire thing. I mean, obviously, if you’ve read Dark Summer, you’ll understand Autumn Storm. But if not, then I don’t want to give a ton of stuff away. All I can say is, there is a lot of tension, a lot of drama, and it’s a really great story. Definitely recommended if you’re a fan of YA novels, indie authors, and/or witches.

The Witchling Trilogy - Available:
Dark Summer (#1)
Summer Night (#1.5)
Autumn Storm (#2)
Autumn Dawn (#2.5)

Includes excerpt from "Masquerade" by Cambria Hebert.

5/5 stars. Let me start off by saying that Lizzy Ford is an amazing writer and I absolutely love the Witchling Trilogy. She does a great job at bringing tension to the right places and making other places fun and entertaining.

We start off a three months after the first book ends. Autumn/Summer is just arriving back at the school. Beck is now the Master of Light while Decker is now the Master of Dark. While Beck is trying his hardest to help/protect the Light Witchlings and his twin, Decker is slowly giving in to the Dark because of Summer's death.

Autumn though, isn't having the easy time we all hoped she would. This time around she completely different from the quiet shy girl we knew. Also, she seems to remember this new school even though she's never been there before. Even stranger, she sometimes sees a brown haired girl in the mirror instead of her own reflection.

Lizzy brings back the old characters we both love and hate in her sequel to Dark Summer. We get the best (and worst) sides of Dawn, who is in fact still pregnant with Beck's child, but we also get to see Biji in some scenes. We also get new characters that you learn to really care about.

Ford really does an absolutely phenomenal job at writing. Her words draw you in, the emotions feel like they are your own, and every heartbreaking or beautiful moment in Autumn Storm is like you are experiencing this first hand. Everything draws you in until the final words that leave you wanting the third book, Winter Kiss.

Oh, mylanta. I don't know where to start. I am going to keep my synopsis short so as to not give away too much. Autumn is recovering from a horrible accident that has left her scarred and in constant pain with a bum leg and no memory. She is starting a new school, or is it, somehow she keeps getting the feeling that she knows people and places at the school. Unfortunately trying to remember brings on excruciating headaches. Autumn meets first Beck, who immediately puts her at ease and then his brother Decker, who immediately puts her on edge. See this is a school full of elemental magic. All the students have an affinity for one of the elements. Autumn is different and she finds out that Beck and Decker are different too. One is the Master of Dark, the slayer of the lawbreakers, the witchlings that use their magic for wrongdoing. Beck is the Master of the Light, charged with protecting the light witchlings. Autumn is drawn to one of the brothers, unfortunately he is tortured by his past love and is in a mode of self destruction. Will Autumn's love be enough to save him? Will she even try? Who is she really? With all of this going on, there is an added element of danger from an unknown menace. You have got to read this series, it is sooooo good. I could not put this book down, just as I couldn't put the first book down. The characters, magic, story, and scenery is so detailed and so fantastic that you won't want to miss a second and before you know it, the book is over. I cannot wait for the next book, I'm dying here.
