Storyline: GOOD
Intimacy Level: D.R.I.P(Don't Read In Public) + Sex-citingly GOOD
Enjoyment: GREAT
Length: 4455 kindle / 252 pg
Style: Multicultural BDSM Erotica
Series: Doms of Genesis

I'm in love.....and I don't know where to start. First off, I want to shake the author silly for making me cry, I wasn't expecting that. The story took you from curiousity, intrigued, emotional, with a bit of tearful moments and then to sexual. If you are debating reading this, then read the sample for your kindle, it gives the first three chapters, so that should wet your appetite enough to want to read it. This isn't your watered down, no storyline BDSM, it had substance to it. If you can't stand the heat, the content and language within this book, put down the book and walk away slowly.

Julianna a.k.a Emerald, has been at Genesis for four years and is getting frustrated as she has yet to find a Dom who will take her, and being the only one without a Dom is starting to become a bit embarrassing. On the verge of an attack, she is rescued by the man she's been seeing in her dreams, Mika, a fine specimen of a man I might add. I won't say who Mika is as it's apart of the excitement for me when he rescues her. By chapter five, curiosity, mix with a bit of excitement starts flowing in to my reading, not because of what happen to Julianna, but who. The chemistry and emotional pull between Mika and Julianna was good for me because it wasn't just another BDSM story, but it also felt like a true love story and that's what tug at my heart. The hospital scene, I was all over the place. I commend the author on how she conveyed the hospital scene to me as a reader. In that moment and scene, I was thinking to myself, it almost felt like everything happen for a reason for Mika and Julianna to bring them to that point. Pretty much after that, sexual enjoyment exploded within the pages and Mika and Julianna's Dom and Sub characters went to another level.

What also made this story, the secondary characters of club Genesis, a freaky bunch, that's what they all are, hehehe. You can definitely tell they were not just friends but consider each other family and I love that. The surprise for me was Emile, Mika's father. I selfishly wanted to keep reading a bit more about him and this personal assistant.

Overall, a brilliant read for me personally and I can truly say that I enjoyed this story from chapter one right down to the epilogue.

This edition was free at Apple Books when i found it.
And i’m glad i didn’t spend any money on it,to be honest.
The blurb sounded intriguing, but the execution disappointed.
Being visited in her dreams by the late slave of Julianna’s dream man,a woman that looked almost exactly like her, being told what to do in those dreams grew old quickly.
Especially when, later in the story, said late slave had an entire conversation with her Master as he was hanging on to life by a thread.
And then, when Mika was recovering,he suddenly saw the light, and everything he’d believed in about having only one soulmate in your life simply flew out the window like it had been nothing?
And his father was in the exact same position with his late wife/slave and his PA….
She was the same spitting image of his father’s late slave? Really??
The way that Julianna kept bouncing from scared sub with a trauma to sub that was topping from the bottom gave me whiplash well.
One moment she was lost in her trauma, and the next she was being sassy without any trace of feeling that trauma still?
Not convincing….at all!
As far as the title goes…
Steamy,ok there were hot moments i enjoyed.
Forbidden lovers…..if that referred to his one soulmate, maybe. Otherwise,i didn’t see it.
Multicultural,yes.
Dark….really? Where? That past trauma, that was touched when convenient? That abuser posing as a Dom? That was a little grey at most…
As a whole,i’m proud of myself for finishing this one, even if i struggled to get through it.

This book was a really pleasant surprise.

I came across it by accident, and what made me decide to read it was that I needed a BDSM-themed book which had a title beginning with the letter E. Given my reasons for reading it weren't much, neither were my expectations. Then I started reading, and very soon I realized this would be a book I would enjoy. Thankfully, I was right!

The book is entirely written from the heroine's perspective. There had been several times when that sentence meant the book went on my nerves, but this was not one of those times. Luckily for me, I really liked Julianna. She was sweet, and fun. I don't think I've ever read about a submissive that stubborn and hotheaded. She really was something else, and I loved it. Granted, she did have a few pity parties, but let's face it - who hasn't? And to be fair, she had some valid reasons.

Julianna was a submissive without a Dom, something that haunted her because she wanted nothing more but to find a good Dom who would claim her as his own. She had a past bad experience, which did not manage to turn her away from the lifestyle, and now she was under the protection of a Dom from a BDSM club she was a member of who was her mentor.

I really liked Drake and his sub Trevor. There was just something about them, and their entire interaction that made me feel very comfortable reading about their world, and very much enjoying it. It was funny that every time someone called Drake Daddy, I would immediately remember Nora saying: "Don't judge!" (Nora is not a character from this book, but from The Original Sinners series.)

As I was saying, Julianna longed for a Dom, so when one piqued her interest, Drake arranged for them to meet, but that ended badly. However, something good came out of it - Julianna finally met the man that haunted her dreams.

The dreams were a part I found a bit odd, but I loved everything else, so I accepted this, too.

Julianna and Mika were meant to be, but them getting to the point where they could finally accept that wasn't exactly easy -- Mika was still grieving, and Julianna was stubborn, and had decided to give up submission -- but I loved every step in their journey. It was emotional, it was hot, it was even fun.
“Who am I?”
“Why, you’re the great and powerful Oz, Master.”

I'm making it official: Julianna is one of my favorite subs I've read about!

This was the kind of BDSM I'd like to read more about. I believe the book said the author was quite experienced in the lifestyle, and that showed. Hopefully, I'll find the time to read the other books in the series soon, and if I'm very lucky find more books like this.

I'm waffling between 3.5 & 4 stars here so I just rounded up. I enjoyed this book. I just bought it basically because of the cover. This author seems fairly well versed in the BDSM lifestyle & I think this is the intro to a series about the Doms of a club called Genesis is some unknown city a la Cherise Sinclair. I like this author's writing style better than Ms. Sinclair's. It's more cerebral but still comparable to the level of smut contained in CS's books.

The protagonist is a bit whiny for me. I don't hate her or anything but the hole insecure/waffling/whimpering/simpering/sobbing/teary-eyed thing gets a little old after awhile.

Good secondary characters that you actually come to care about i.e. Drake, Trevor & Sammie. All of which I'm hoping get their own books. I think the next up in the series focuses on a triad of Dylan, Nick & Savannah. Meow.

I'm not sure I entirely felt Mika & Julianna's intensity as quickly as it was written but it wasn't completely out in left field. Well...at least not on Mika's part. Julianna's is a little harder to swallow but when coupled with her desperation I guess it isn't. Whatevs, I still read the next one.

Fairly good dialogue; can be cheesy at times but I still found overall I enjoyed the book.

Emerald aka Julianna is a part of the BDSM club Genesis where she is leaving to embrace her submissive side. She has been burned one too many times by men who called themselves Doms, but were not truly in the lifestyle. When she meets the Dom of her dreams (literally), he is not quite ready for all she is willing to give.

My thoughts:
So this is actually a reread for me, I read this way back when it first came out in 2012. It was one of my favorite series 10 years ago, but upon rereading there were some things that made me go hmmm 🤔! And not necessarily in a bad way. I was super emotional reading the first 30% of the book because I feel like I connected to Julianna in a way I never did before. If you enjoy reading kinky or BDSM romances, I highly recommend this series! Side note: this book has lots of LGBTQ+ rep even though it was written in 2012!

"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."

This is the first in a series, and does a good job of setting the scene and identifying the key characters in the Club. This is Emerald (aka Julianna's ) story, although through her we are introduced to the leading players at the Club. Once we get to meet the biggest player, the race is on to get things straightened out, and on course. I felt greatly aggrieved for Julianna, but she seemingly chooses to forgive and enjoy how things work out. The steamy scenes may be best read away from a public place - unless that is one of your kinks!

After reading many, many such books, I think this one does a good job of neither being too trite, too condescending or too serious. I have some issues with the writing style, but the story was strong enough to keep me reading. I have the next book lined up on my Kindle.

I am soooo sorry that I let this book sit on my kindle for over a year before I was finally able to read it.
Jenna Jacob is an amazing writer, pulling you in and sucking you down until you're consumed with the desire to keep reading. Then your emotions are high and you're eager for the bliss of satisfaction and surrender.
Reading Emerald's story brought smiles, laughter, love, tears of joy, frustration, and sadness. The story will strangle you and then blissfully release you. Highly recommend this book and I can't wait to dive into book 2!

Embracing My Submission
Author; Jenna Jacob

What would you do if you dreamed of the perfect Dom and were never able to find him in reality? What if you had trained for years to be a submissive, only to find the isolation impossible to bear?

Julianna dreams every night of her dream Dom and wakes to the loneliness of her reality. Becoming a sub was not what she expected. After being hurt by one in experienced Dom, she falls for another, only to be subjected to cruel torture before her protector can come and rescue her. With him, though, is the Dom she has been dreaming of for years. Sir Drool, in the flesh.

This story captured my attention on the first page. Julianna has a voice that resonates with any strong willed woman trying to find her place. In her world, that is being a submissive. Open mouth, insert foot is a common affliction of mine and I had to laugh out loud every time Julianna found herself in just that predicament.

Lonely and trying so hard to be the perfect submissive, Julianna finds herself in the middle of a sadist bent on destroying her, but is saved by her protector and the man she has been dreaming of for years. The story spins into a powerful passion play of love, forgiveness and tenderness that had me turning the pages late into the night to find out what happened next.

Drake, Trevor, Julianna and Mika are all characters with breathable characteristics and I felt like they were my friends by the time the book was over. The drama was unpredictable, the tensions palpable, chemistry undeniable and the little humorous points interjected here and there make the story absolutely perfect. We haven't even gotten to the sex scenes yet.

The club scene was right on, as were the interactions between Drake, the protector and his slave/lover Trevor. Julianna and Mika were the perfect match as well as we journey with them into the hesitation of a new relationship and beyond. Author Jenna Jacobs explains much of what happens in BDSM dynamics for the reader who may be unfamiliar with the lifestyle and illuminates Master/slave and Dominant/submissive roles. The sex is smoking hot and you are going to need some ice water. Lots of it!

I loved every page of this book, even the parts that had me cringing in horror. There is a scene where Julianna is attacked by the sadist she mistakenly thinks is a potential Dom. It can be a trigger if you have been a victim of sexual violence. It is powerful but so is the aftermath, and reading through it is worthwhile, even if it leaves you shuddering and crying like it did me. Flashbacks are a bitch, but Jenna Jacobs has done a superb job on this first book in the series and I am anxious to read the next one. This book is 5 stars all the way! If you want a book that will have you sweating bullets and turning the pages, you have to give Embracing My Submission a read. You won't regret it.

*I received a free copy to read & review for Wicked Reads Review Team*

I was totally expecting the "normal" BDSM club type book, but am happy to say this book wasn't that!

Emerald is an unattached submissive who spends most of her free time at Genesis, a BDSM club. She's actively hunting and hoping for a Dom to come in and swoop her off her feet: this is where the similarities end (to the "regular" club books I've read). Personally, I liked Emerald from the 1st page and wanted to read her story. She's sassy, independent, kind, and she was easy to identify with. Her journey of submission was a struggle, but at the same time it was liberating.
The secondary characters were also like-able, and I'd like to read more about them (Drake and Trevor, Sammie, Savannah and Nick and Dylan, etc).

There are paranormal aspects that I didn't really like, but they added to the story - so I can't say they were unnecessary. I can say the over-use of "girl" was unnecessary, I find it hard to believe that of 3-4 different people that speak to Emerald - EVERYONE refers to her as "girl". The other aspect that bothered me, well, I don't want to spoil the story, but I have an issue with a major plot line.
(Once you read this, I'll be glad to discuss by message)

This story was FULL of angst, emotional turmoil, glimpses of romance, and infuriating evil. The sex is scorching, the Dom/sub dynamic is hot, and I WILL definitely be reading more about Genesis.

Spoilers below.

Do you have Spanish speaking family? This reads like novelas. Lord help us. There is SO MUCH drama! Which was kind of good so I made it like 3/4 of the way through this book but finally enough was enough. Let's go:

1. Girl talks to ghosts?

2. Guy talks to ghosts...

3. So much telling and not showing. Uggghhh.

4. TRIGGERING SEXUAL ASSAULT SCENE.

5. So after this girl gets assaulted by a stranger so seriously that she needs stitches, she goes home with and allows a stranger to spend the night in her bed.

6. Super awkward monologue where dude talks to his dead ghost wife lady about sending him his new lover. Uhh.

7. Lots of super awkward monologues.

8. A common theme throughout the book is people telling the main character
REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE
which I obviously had no choice but to hear in Mufasa's voice.

9. Dude gets shot and the main character tells him to die and go hang out with his dead ghost wife lady.

That's pretty much where I checked out. DNF.

A story about a sub who isn’t sure if she’s a sub. She’s had a couple bad experiences and feels like she is not worthy of a Dom.
It was an interesting book, it had a few plot twists that I wasn’t expecting so that was well done.
There were layers to each person’s characters so that was good too.
I thought using a ghost as a plot device was interesting and unique.
I thought Mika was being too strict with himself and felt like he should’ve capitulated much sooner. He obeyed his Master’s rule for too long IMO.
There wasn’t much description of various BDSM scenes in the book although there were many detailed intimate scenes between the FMC and MMC.
I like reading D/S stories but I admit to getting really tired of the sub always dissolving into tears. Is this a ‘thing’ for subs? I’ll just have to get used to the incessant crying I guess.

50 shades of... Wait, what?

Let's be clear. Overall, we read books like this for loads of hot, kinky sex. (Rawr). Sex wise, this book is smoking hot. Primarily M\f, with some M\m action as a side piece.

Context of the sex? Giant, throbbing WTF filled with cream and boiling seed. (Note: these words belong in cookbooks, not BDSM novels). Insanely aroused shortly after true medical emergencies? Back door play within hours of being cut by rusty razor blades requiring stitches? That gives an entirely new, improbable meaning to pain sl#$.

The plot, oh the plot... Girl really, really longs to be a sub to The One despite being abused by The Last One. She dreams of The Next One and a woman guiding her to him. And it happens! (Swoon!). While she's being abused by someone else. They fall into mad, passionate lust, followed by collaring, the pr0n equivalent of a wedding.

Please don't get me started on the fantasy dungeon complete with state of the art security system, because really?

Must read for any fan of BDSM

I read this first book in the series, my first read from Jenna Jacob, in one sitting. Once I started I couldn't stop. It's like she ripped every emotion and feeling and most secret desires out of my head and heart and made Julianna/Emerald. This book broke my heart for all she went through and gave me hope. Mika and Drake are both so scrumptious. They will both be living rent free in my head for the foreseeable future.

This was a freebie read picked for me in a group. It was an average read. Julianna/Emerald is an unattached submissive that works and hangs out at a BDSM club. She's stubborn, smart mouthed, yet lacks confidence and thinks that a dom will never want her. She's also plagued by an experience early on in the lifestyle.

Julianna has been haunted by a continual dream with a male & female where "Fanny Frustration", as she has named her, tells her to "find him - find my one". An unfortunate event leads her to him but he has a past as well that keeps them apart. This is their story of finding their love for each other. Wasn't a huge fan of the insta-love between them. I needed more time to connect with their relationship.

The book did keep me reading, minimal errors, and a standalone read with no cliffhangers.

Honestly...Although I enjoy such themes this was a hard one for me. I really hate how she was assaulted so violently yet the same night she was wanting to have sex with the main character. This was truly unrealistic and although its fiction of course..For her to be brutally assaulted and not even be fazed and to be needy literally ten minutes later really kind of icked me. I push through with novels so I continued to read and I still truly disliked it. Im glad I did not pay for this book, such a disappointment.

Wow, where to begin with what's wrong with this book. A girl is questioning her submission after, and only at the end of book, do we find out she had an abusive pretend Master, and her protector thinks it's OK to tell an unknown owner of a BDSM club who stalks her via unknown camera monitors in the club about her history. The unknown Masters ghost slave visits her nightly telling her how much the unknown man needs her and to go get him. How does one find a dominant that's hiding upstairs, that no one knows but a few in the club, who unbeknownst to her has, with the help of said protector, been keeping other Doms away from her? And she's supposed to just trust these two. Once everything comes out, she should have felt more betrayed than even the abusing Dom had made her feel. She should have shown anger to the man who claimed to care and protect her but shared info he had no rights to do so. Instead, she falls directly into the new man and he wants to call her slave immediately. Knowing her history, come on and give us readers a little credit. But when does he wring her compliance...oh that's the kicker. During sex he demands she admit she's his slave. And when she freaks, he is like, I'm not him, I'm different. No he isn't. Hes manipulative and playing with her while claiming he is her forever savior. And, he is out of the lifestyle for years after swearing he'd never have another slave when his died and yet he owns a club he never sets foot in except to play voyeur and has a private dungeon at his mansion. I could barely read this. A sub doesn't just fall in to slave, especially after being abused as one. There was zero negotiation or limits, just what he was going to do....never what she needed. And, he killed a man who abused and tried to kill her and the friendly neighborhood club member judge fixed it like it was nothing. They all used aliases like Emerald or Carnation, Master George, etc but not one cop wanted to out a judge at a sex club? They had connections to keep out of the media too...just wow. I wouldn't trust Moses or Mika with a pet much less someone submitting to them

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I knew it was BDSM.. but so are SO many other books. This is a totally and unique, or rather more truthful, than most other books out there.

Julianna has been searching for her 'one', but after years in the BDSM community she hasn't even had a nibble of anyone interested, except her first (and bad) experience. She is lead and taught by a mentor (who is gay) but he isn't meeting all her needs. Thinking she has finally met the 'one' that will help her reach subspace and be the one she can please, she quickly ends up in an unexpected situation. And that's when the book gets interesting.

Once Mika enters the picture, I literally couldn't put down the book (not that I really could've before, but he was SO sexy and D-O-M *whew*). Mind you, he isn't the bang on my chest, you do what I tell you because I told you to kind of Dom. He is a true Dom. He has feelings and needs and desires that keep him from doing what he wants as well as giving into the woman that is driving him mad.

On top of all that, Julianna has had dreams that seem to be leading her to look for this mysterious man, who oddly looks exactly like Mika.

Oh, I could go on and on about this book, but there is so much I don't want to give away. I am greatly impressed with the BDSM aspect and the truthfulness behind it and the sensual side of it instead of just the pain.

The only down side to the story really to me was there were instances of over wordage.. things could be too descriptive and there were times I felt like a thesaurus was overused (and not correctly).

Naughty scenes were pretty hot, but then half of them were skipped and just said we did such and such, but I suppose a book filled with sex scenes would be a bit dull.

I look forward to seeing where this series is going.
