Introduction
Shadow of Atlantis is an alternate history story where Atlantis exists, is technologically far superior to other nations on Earth and whose motives are unclear.

World Building
I have to admit that while I am a fan of alternate history books, this is the first one that I am reading which stars Atlantis in a prominent position. While this premise is interesting enough, what really held my attention is the intricate world that Josh Killen builds as the book progresses. Details are provided as needed and this adds to the need to learn more about the alternate world and its history. I was looking forward to getting to learn more and more about the various nations, their cultures and conflicts and the mysterious Atlantis itself. The science fiction elements – the unique abilities, the powers that be, the tech etc also stand out. This book provided some information on the Americas and Europe and I am curious to know what exists/happens in the rest of the globe. Hopefully, we will get to discover this in the forthcoming books.

I was so bored out of my mind... like nothing was happening and the world was soooooo confusing.

Ugh. I'm tired of trying to interpret the world building...

As for content and everything I didn't get far in the book to give a good overview, but it was clean and the author claims Christianity. *shrugs*

I'm just not one for wasting my time on books I'm bored of. Thanks BookSirens for the chance.

**FTC DISCLOSURE** I received a complimentary copy of this book from BookSirens in exchange for an honest review. If my opinion hurt you somehow I request you not take it personally. Thanks!! ;)

Very interesting premise. Very much liked the main character Stevens. Wasn’t my normal reading material but wasn’t disappointed.

A free review copy was given to me from Voracious Reader.

I had mixed feeling about the book. I hope this review will help you decide if this story is for you.
First off, the prose was simple, clean and concise. It is really accessible and easy to read.

The world the author created is interesting and keeps you wanting for more. The different concepts about the people/technology/power are cleverly explained and smart. I really wanted to know more about it! Unfortunately, my hunger for world building wasn’t met throughout the story, but if you like a fast-paced action story, it will be for you.

I had a hard time getting attached to the main character in the first part of the book. I felt that I couldn’t connect with him as fast as I wished and this made me ponder a couple of time if I really wanted to finish the book. We get to understand his motivation better by the end of the book but I feel that we would have gained by knowing it earlier, without breaking the suspense.

The rest of the cast was not memorable as we did not spent much time with them. And I really wanted to know more about them and their culture/technology/diversity.

In brief, Shadow of Atlantis starts slow and the pacing gets faster halfway through the book, the world is interesting and the characters have a lot potential.

Let me explain my three stars. The end of this book was great! It was fast-paced, exciting and kept me turning pages (electronically speaking) until I was finished. Solid 5 stars. The beginning made me wonder if I was going to finish it at all. The problem was, I didn't understand the main character's interest in the politics surrounding Atlantis, and until that was explained, the entire story was implausable, broken and did not compel me to read at all. Once they introduced some of his backstory and he started showing his true colors, it was an entirely different book.

I would rate this book 4.5 stars. Please know I received a free complimentary copy of this book, but that has no influence on my review. The second half of this book was great! It was fast paced, but not so fast that you couldn’t keep track of what was going on. It kept me reading and wondering what was going to happen next. I just took half a star off because the beginning was very slow and slightly confusing. I understand the author had to start building this alternate history world, and it was interesting, but also confusing at times. Once you complete the book though, you understand why the author didn’t give you some of the details right away.

I enjoyed this book, quickly reading through the story and now I want more about this world. The world is enjoyable, it echos the details that most of us experience in our lives, making it relatable and easy to imagine yourself in this world. Atlantis and the atlantians exist here and I enjoyed how they interacted with the story, with the world's history and the events taking place in this story. A little bit of political intrigue, the fast paced action and a side-helping of sci-fi rounded out the story nicely.

This was a good sci/fi adventure action story. It had a few interesting twists. I would have liked more in depth characters as I felt I never really got to know even the main characters all that well. I believe the intent is for this to be a series of books and the author will build on the different story lines, he introduced here. I wish I had known this before reading the book as I was left dissatisfied with the cliff hanger style ending. I received this book through Voracious Books. I hope the author continues on with his saga.

Decent action packed novel. Has good potential to be a series with a mature universe.
