The Lost Scrolls #3

Lost Scrolls: Fire Avatar the Last Airbender

Rate this book
If you are reading this, you have uncovered one of the four hidden scrolls I have compiled about the world of Avatar. This scroll contains sacred information about the Fire Nation -- stories, legends, and facts that I have found so far about this nation -- its history and culture and tales of its past and present.Katara describes how Aang outwits and defeats the dreaded Admiral Zhao and the Fire Navy, Aang tells how he comes to accept his destiny, and Prince Zuko recalls the time he once captured -- and lost -- the Avatar. The scroll also contains information about leaders of the Fire Nation, Firebending techniques, the spirit world, and much more.Keep this scroll safe, and share it only with those you trust.Beware, for there are many who wish to expose its secrets...

It's kind of just a recap of the show, but I love it for the nostalgia. While most of the stories are simple retellings, the information between stories is way more interesting. I love the quick tidbits about the local fauna and the culture. It doesn't cover everything, naturally, but there's stuff here they never bring up in the show, like which martial art styles from the real world Firebenders use.

This book should not be read in place of watching the show, but it could definitely make for some fun bedtime reading for kids.

I like the backstory. We don't really get to know a lot about the past of the fire nation, so I like learning of its history. I also liked the Fire Sage history. It was only a little good for this reason, but I still disliked how it was just a summary of the show. It would be better if it was at least like an actual book.

It was fun to read this, no doubt. I liked the extra information after every legend the most.

This is the third of 4 Scrolls in the the Lost Scrolls Series. There is no "new" content unlike the succeeding Avatar: The Last Airbender Comics Series which details Aang's adventures AFTER the cartoon ends. Like the other books in the series, the art is rather pretty, in fact, some are better than what feels like the lazy screencaptures in Avatar: The Legend of Aang Comics Series but the writing is REALLY really juvenile.

The first legend narrated by Katara is about the Fire Festival, where Aang meets the person ordered to become his Fire Bending master. Aang might seem like an undisciplined, difficult student, but that doesn't mean he isn't learning.
Aang "Jeong Jeong said you had no restraint. I just got out of the way while you destroyed yourself."
description

The second legend, The Fire Temple is told by Aang. This is probably one of the saddest arcs there, as even after death Avatar Roku continues to serve the powers of balance. Gosh darn, Avatar Roku has such a high "kewl" factor that I may have to give this review an additional 1⭐ just for him, because he's such a complete bad ass.
description

In the third legend Prince Zuko disguises himself as The Blue Spirit to rescue Aang from Admiral Zhao as Aang is his only way back into Firelord Ozai's good graces. There's a poignant bit when Aang asks Zuko if they could have been friends had things been different. Even with the simple prose the it still moved me.

Overall, Fire is my favorite out of the Lost Scrolls collection.

Well, I love Avatar so I suppose I still enjoyed this book, but it wasn’t as cool as I thought it would be. First it is set up as a juvenile book where the author has secretly gathered information you can’t share with anyone! It was a little over the top for me. The majority of the book was just a recap from Sokka’s, Katara’s and Aang’s POV of certain episodes of the show. I didn’t feel like I got any more value out of it.

The only thing of value I found was the background information on the Fire Nation. Although I already knew most of it, there were a few things I learned from it. One was that the Fire Lord was originally the head Fire Sage until he broke off wanting to control the nation. Also, it shows you the different martial arts styles that firebending is based off of. Not knowing much about martial arts, this was interesting to me.

Other than that though, this really didn’t add anything to my Avatar universe. If you’re an Avatar fan and you find this book really cheap somewhere (like I did), I say go ahead and pick it up and add it to your collection. If you have to pay full price, I say that this book is not worth it.

My love of reading started when i was young, and it gives me immense pleasure to provide books to Spread the Word Nevada, an organization that passes them on to children in the community. They are a terrific organization supporting an important cause. If your local I encourage you to check them out. For those living further a field, look in your own community, their may already be a similar program in place. And if not, you can always help start one.

Myself, I go out on the weekends and
shop thrift store and bulk book lots to rescue books and donate them. Sometimes I'll find a book I remember reading when I was young and will read it again before passing it on.

I don't rate these books using my normal scale, instead I give most of them three stars. This isn't a Criticism of the book, simply my way of rating them as good for children.

A fun book for fans of The Last Airbender. While the "Legends" are just episodes of the series written down from the POV of one of the major players, I enjoyed taking a closure look at the Fire Nation. Most of the information could definitely be gleaned just from watching the show attentively, but I found the discussion of the Fire Nation fighting style and of typical Fire Nation animals to be really fun.

3 1/2 stars.

Obviously aimed at the target audience of the show, but the extra information about firebenders such as their culture and tribe are interesting, though I don't know how much of it is "canon" (e.g. the dominfant season for firebenders is summer and many fire nation children are born then). The retelling of stories from the television episodes are written so elementary school aged audiences can easily follow them, but by no means are they a replacement of.

There's not much more to say that hasn't already been said before. Buying all of the same materiel over again is only highlighting what is wrong with children's intellectual properties anymore. If it's not marketable in 40+ different flavors then it's apparently not worth doing at all. Since Avatar is worth something is a million different flavors you end of with this.

Not as cool as I thought it would be. Mostly just retelling episodes from the show. There were a few facts that were fun to read, but it was about 10 of the 64 pages. I'm sure I'll read them all, because I am life member of AA (Avatar Anonymous).

The Fire Nation is known as the conquering nation...here we got to see Avatar Roku and and we got to see Zuko as the Blue Spirit. The culture and philosophy of the Fire Nation is very well-described here.

While created in the early days of ATLA, it still gives some good fats about the Fire Nation's culture though I would have liked more considering the history in the show. Still a good collector's item for ATLA fans.

Not the most interesting to read, and in all honesty I wouldn't suggest it to anyone else. Still a fun idea though and I'll never hate too much on any ATLA content.
