Mind Games: A Ravenous Romance by Cecilia Tan

Rate this book
"I certainly hope this won't be Ms. Tan's only foray into the paranormal world because Mind Games is definitely an all-out hit!" -- Manic Readers (5 star review)Wren Delacourt is a woman with a gift, only she doesn't know it. She has psychic abilities-the ability to see the future, to read minds, and to sense emotions. But ever since the death of her parents when she was a teenager, in an accident she foresaw, she has suppressed her abilities, often doubting her childhood memories and unsure if her powers even exist, or if she only imagined them. Unable to deal with other people's emotions, she leads a quiet, somewhat lonely life working in a university library and socializing mostly with her downstairs neighbor, a gay man named Lawrence.Everything changes when her sister Abby goes missing, and Wren hires a private investigator to try to find her. Derek Chapman isn't what Wren expected in a P.I.; he's young, good-looking, and sensitive. Wren is attracted to him immediately, and the feeling seems mutual, but Wren is afraid that this will be just another failed relationship. She begins to have dreams about sex, about a dream lover who visits her at night. Is the man in her dreams just her subconscious trying to work out its conflicts between desire and fear? Or could someone really be stalking her in her dreams? And what does it mean when Derek's search for Abby leads him to a private sex club? Fate seems to be pulling Wren into Derek's arms, whether she is ready or not...

This was a good read by an author that I have read before. Wren has suppressed her latent psychic abilities by avoiding strong emotions until her sister Abby goes missing. Derek Chapman isn't what Wren expects. He's handsome and sensitive. Wren is attracted to him but fears that deepening any connection with Derek emotional, spiritual, or sexual will open the floodgates locked in her mind. I liked both of these character's a lot. When a mystery man appears in Wrens dreams with pain and pleasure she wonders if its her mind telling her to stay away from Derek. While looking for her sister they end up at a sex club. This was a pretty good read the sex scenes in this book were hot. I have read this author before this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

3. 25 Stars for me!

My rating range throughout the story... 2.5 - 3.75

Scenes with heat.. About 70% of the story! Whether dreaming or awake. Heat level is probably a 9/10. There were some rapey vibe scenes although the author downplayed them. This is definitely one of the hotter stories that you will read/listen to.

The back story... This story should have been called Mind F##k as the author may have been on an acid trip when writing it. The h's sister goes missing so she hires a private detective, our H. He is an all-around good guy but he has a 'huge' issue which blew up his last serious relationship so he is extremely gunshy (innuendos are intentional).

The h finds out that she has a ton of psychic capabilities and also is haunted by a very kinky dream lover. She is caught between her dream world and reality and towards the end, things get super weird.

The Romance... The H and h do have chemistry but the pusg/pull creates tension and leaves the door open for the h to keep her options open. The H takes a bit too long to get over his issues and it nearly costs him everything.

The drama explosion... The h goes by herself to a place and she gets captured and used a bit. The H arrives and has to figure out how to help her.

Final Notes... This story never really ended and the bad guy waltzed away. The h allows herself to be bound instead of resisting and essentially does what she is told to do. The ending just didn't make sense to me. If there is another book that ends the bad guy, I would probably get it to see what happens.

HEA or HFN? HFN

WTF did I just read? I still don't even know... I've just finished this and I'm sitting here like seriously WTF. 2.5 Stars I kept hoping this would get better but man it just didn't for me. Okay, spoilers ahead.

Okay so first we aren't able to build any connection with Doctor Sleep or whatever. Who is he, does it matter, we just don't know... Therefore when he turns up later there's no connection.

Stalker Steve.... We don't like Steve because he's pushy and clingy and won't take no for an answer. We think Steve may be Doctor Sleep.... Or not... But there isn't enough Steve development to care. Steve's not a coworker we meet. He's not important to the story line.

The MC is just okay with being able to mind ninja an orgasm out of people, okay fair. But she's oblivious to just about everything, and she's okay leaving her sister with Doctor Doom and his legion of evil doers because she seems to be in love or in a freaky mind cult. WTF, no....

Lastly, we're just okay with a rapey orgy with the MCs sister, doctor sleep, and Steve... And afterward the LI is just going to have sex with her passed out body while she's still "sticky and naked" the authors words not mine, from said event, unknown to him because the mental mind meld is so strong. What in the Wanda Vision is even going on here. Scribd just decided I needed a mind f*ck today apparently... I mean okay 🤷‍♀️

Mystical Magic Anthology

Wren's sister is missing so she hires a PI. In the meantime she is having strange sexual dreams.

I was not really into this one from the start...it was just all over the place. I stopped right before Wren and her attractive PI have to go investigate some sort of sex club to find her sister. They have been sort of seeing each other during the investigation and about to have dinner when this happens ..."She knew that was where she was supposed to say "what?" but she never liked feeling like a dog who barks when it's trained to. If he was going to tell her anyway, why should she have to prod him". Basically, having a polite conversation about subject matter that might be difficult for her is that same thing as being treated like an animal. I already was not enjoying this one, and this absurd paragraph just put me over the edge.

Short erotic thriller that has a few twists and turns to keep you interested. Wren and Derek's relationship is definitely unique, the connection between them can make you envious at times. The paranormal component to the book in my opinion could have been a bit better but because the heroine was traumatized I think the author dialed it back a bit. The steamy scenes where just that however from the beginning of the book I thought they would be more kinky in a way. It is for mature readers of 18+.. As an Independent Reviewer of Romance Authors That Rock I am giving this book 3.5 Hearts.

Mind Games by Cecelia Tan is a romantiic, somewhat erotic mystery involving sex club, telepathic powers and a few kidnappers. Derek travels a path with unpleasant memories of pain of being one's first love, it fears, and heartbreak since he's a man with a full house. :-0 If you know what I mean hmmm.

Derek is a PI who tries to find two missing women. One, the young sister of his newest client and the other an older woman who has been missing for quite a while. Wren, Derek's new client has telepathic powers as well as her missing sister. Wren wants to find her sister since the two of them have not seen each other in months. Derek has a lead or two that requires him to visit a sex club which is the last known place Wren's sister, Abby was seen. The story has many unexpected events that makes story and page turner; not to mention the hot sexual play. This is an adult only book that will keep you with that warm and fuzzy feeling. Very enjoyable.

Um, well, ok. Where to start?!?!?!? I briefly read the back of the book when I picked it from the shelf, so I knew it had to do with mind reading and such. But I didn't think it would go that far! I'm not really into paranormal romance books, but this one wasn't bad. I wish I could connect like that to my hubby.....

This is one of the best erotic romance books I have read in recent memory. The suspense and slow building love scenes create an anticipation that is white hot. Highly erotic, creative, and unique, the story line drew me in immediately.

Highly, highly recommended.

This was just too slow moving for my taste. There was plenty of steamy bits but even that was just not as hot as it could have been and there was just not much in the way of suspense. Ho-hum.
