Charming, sweet story about a losing your way, and overcoming the challenges and heartache that life throws at you with the one you love! It made me smile!
I was delighted when Sydney sent me an ARC of this story. I adored her "Lessons Learned" and looked forward to another lovely tale. She did not disappoint.
"Mistletoe Magic" is about two people who have gone to a department store to buy last-minute gifts for the spouses they love, but from whom they have somehow become distant. Ethan's wife has gotten caught up in fashion and appearances, while Melanie's husband has vanished into his work.
But there's magic afoot this holiday season, and it comes in the form of a power outage, leaving Ethan and Melanie stuck together on an elevator. And it just might give them a second chance at love.
You can always count on Sydney for a wonderful story. This little piece is a gem. A flawless one. The characters are engaging, the setting and plot well-developed, and the message both useful and memorable.
We have two kind, imperfect people, estranged from their spouses, who get stuck on an elevator at Christmas. They ponder their respective futures while sharing their struggles. One leaves them with the impression that they are going to be all right.
Just in time for the Holidays, Sydney Logan delivers a short story about two people who've lost that loving feeling. I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy of this story, and at less than 5K words, it was a quick read.
Melanie is shopping for a last minute gift for her husband who's spending too much time at work. Ethan is in the same department store, trying to purchase a gift for his wife, who's lately been caught up in fashion and money. Both are saddened by the state of their relationships with their spouses, but neither has any idea how to fix things.
It's a poignant story about what really matters, and that sometimes, we can get so caught up in work and material things that can damage a relationship.
With a little bit of magic, a mistletoe and a power outage, there just might be hope for these two to find what they have been missing.
It's a credit to the author that she manages to put much emotion and realistic character depth into such a short story. That's quite a feat, and I hope you'll give this story a chance.
And when you're done reading this, why not check out Lessons Learned as well.
When I started reading Mistletoe Magic by Sydney Logan, I expected a feel-good story that would leave me smiling. I got that, but got so much more too. Her characters have so much depth and showed such amazing emotion in this short story, that I found myself drawn in quickly and my heart feeling everything right along with Melanie and Ethan. Also, her side character may play a small role in the story, but has big impact as well. This is such a well developed gem of a story.
I really enjoyed this Christmas short story. It put me right into the holiday spirit. Grab your favorite warm, winter drink and curl up with a blanket and roaring fire and enjoy this holiday treat for yourself.
Christmas is my favorite time of the year, so I'm always up for a good Christmas story. This one is sweet to be sure, but with a depth not found in many short stories. I really grew to love the characters, and I rooted for both of them. Down the road, I'd like to see them developed into a longer work. (hint, hint, Sydney!)
5 stars I love Sydney Logan's work and this short story didn't disappoint. Mistletoe Magic is a beautiful read, I loved both Melanie and Ethan and you can't help but want more. I would love the author to write a full story on these characters. This short story left me full of love, happiness and hope for Melanie and Ethan. Thank you for writing Sydney Logan.
I loved this sweet story that proved Christmas is the season for love, forgiveness and miracles! This will be one I read every Christmas to remind myself how lucky we are to have someone special in our lives and not let the sorrows of life cause us to forget!
Another great story by Sydney Logan that is swoon worthy and a great read!
Sydney gave me an advance copy of this short story and it was lovely. It was one of those stories that stays with you for a long while and it was perfect for the holidays, one that reminded me of The Gift of the Magi. I don't want to give too much away, but the story was sad and sweet, and if you've been married for a while, much of the story will resonate with you and the ebbs and flows of love and how hard it is to maintain a good marriage.
The story starts with Melanie fretting over what to get her husband for Christmas and hoping that what she purchased isn't the exact replica of what she purchased for him the year before. With what seems like a little Christmas magic, she's trapped in an elevator with a handsome man. Over the course of their forced captivity they confess what is burdening them this holiday season.
Now available on Amazon, I urge you to go and read this. Simply put, a lovely and heartwarming holiday story.
Bravo Sydney, and I can't wait to read more from you.
This is a perfect little treat that reminds us of what the holiday spirit is really about: generosity, hope, forgiveness, and love. I'm glad to give this story 5 stars!
We begin with Melanie doing some last minute Christmas shopping for her husband. A chance encounter in the elevator on her way home gives Melanie the opportunity to rethink her waning marriage, offering hope for a rekindled love.
Logan is absolutely one of my favorite authors, and this story highlights one of the many reasons why. She doesn't waste a single word...every sentence works toward building this world filled with provoking characters, relationships, and situations. So though Mistletoe Magic isn't lengthy, it's very satisfying with a sweet twist.
I 100% recommend this story to you, and while you're at it, make sure to pick up Lessons Learned, another one of my 2012 faves!
Many thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book!
This was a very short story that I enjoyed very much! Logan touched on marital issues and real life things that can happen in relationships. However, I love how she worked it. And although she covered everything necessary in that short story, I still wanted more. That's a good thing! And even with so few words, Logan was able to give us a good feel of the characters. I find that she does that amazingly.
Everything Sydney Logan writes is magical. Everything.
Mistletoe Magic takes the reader on a quick trip through an evening with Melanie and Ethan, a trip that ran me through a gamut of emotions--an amazing thing considering its brevity.
The final result was hope...and promise. And a belief in the magic of the season. It made me feel wonderful inside, and I believe it will do the same for everyone who reads it.
I've been a fan of Sydney's for a while, and I have yet to be disappointed with any of her writing.
I think this story is just beautiful, and it is something that you can easily see as reality. People love each other yet lose each other along the way, and if they can manage to find their way back to one another, that is just beautiful.
I enjoyed reading this short story, which I really wanted to continue reading even after I was done. It made me sad and happy at the same time. I was pleasently surprised that I could feel that way in such a short amount of time, but that's how great the author's writing is!
Mistletoe Magic is a short story from Sydney Logan, author of Lessons Learned (a must read!). In this story, Ms. Logan touches on something that can happen to anyone. Lives are busy; feelings get hurt; we don’t always make the time to talk things out . . . and that can easily lead to misunderstandings. Sometimes the love is there, but it’s buried beneath the pieces of life. Before you know it, the person next to you can begin to feel like a stranger or the enemy.
This is a lovely, heartwarming Christmas tale that will have you running to your significant other to redeclare your love. There isn’t too much I can tell you without ruining the story, but there were some lessons to be learned (pardon the pun), and I had to dry my eyes when I finished. Well worth a read! I give this a solid 4 stars.
I am unabashedly fond of Sydney Logan - I have been reading her writing for a very long time. I was thrilled when she made the leap to original fiction.
I adored Mistletoe Magic! From the moment Melanie was introduced, I found her to be a sympathetic, relatable character. I wanted to give her a hug when she was shopping for her husband's Christmas gift. I cringed with her when the elevator stopped.
I welled up with tears of both sadness and joy over the conversation she had in the elevator.
My only complaint is that it is a short story. I was left wanting more.
Sydney Logan impresses me as usual. I've had the pleasure of reading most of her non-published work so I suspected I would enjoy this story as much as I had all the others and I was definitely not disappointed! The story is a rather short one, but in very few pages Sydney is able to create very heartfelt and meaningful characters. I can totally sympathize with Melanie and how she has grown apart from her husband in recent years after they both face difficult circumstances. This story is all about the magic of Christmas and reconnecting with the people you love.
I downloaded this story when it was available for free through Amazon a few days ago. I'm a big fan of short stories and not many people can write short stories very well. Sydney Logan is one of the few that can pull you into the story quickly, make you love the characters, and leave a reader with a sense of closure in the end. This story has a special twist which I almost missed half-way into the story. I had to go back in the beginning of it to catch it though. Overall, this was a great short story and I look forward to reading more of Sydney Logan's work.
This was so good! But of course it is because it's by Sydney Logan.
I loved this story and I loved how it wasn't what I expected at all. The journey was short like it says but it's just right. It makes you reflect on your life and that's when you know something's good.
I love how the title comes back in the story, I think that was such a sweet moment.
This was such a sweet holiday story. Chance meeting on an elevator...or was it orchestrated by Nick? Two lost souls finding each other once again when hope was all but lost.
Ms Logan's stories are always special. I don't have kindle so I downloaded the desktop, just so I could read Mistletoe Magic. I was not disappointed. Thank you for an early Christmas present!

Although short in words, Mistletoe Magic is large in heart and feeling. I've read and enjoyed many stories by Sydney. Her characters and writing consistently tug at my emotions and often leave me a bit teary. This was no exception. A lovely story about love, loss, want, and most importantly, hope. Perfect for the holiday season.
This short story is one that could hit home with many. Our busy lives can drive wedges between the ones we love the most. What better time to slow down and reconnect than Christmas! This season is not about the "stuff," but about the gifts we can give each other that are priceless.
Thanks Sydney for such a touching story. I am now in the Christmas spirit!!!
Mistletoe Magic was a very well-written, engaging, and enjoyable holiday short story. Worth every one of those ninety-nine pennies and then some! Sydney wove a tale of hope, love, and wishes fulfilled that I would recommend to anyone looking to curl up with a lovely, feel-good read.
Magic is right. This author nailed it with this little gem of a short Christmas story. The characters right away become endearing to your heart & you feel for both of them... Then the magic happens before you the reader knows what is going on. A wonderful piece for this time of year. A true HEA.
This is a really sweet short story. Even though it's short, it still got me teary-eyed. Perfect story for the holidays! A good reminder to not get caught up in "busy-ness" of life, or even the holidays, & take time for loved ones.
