Jack Vaughn is sure his life is over as he tumbles down the wooded hillside onto the deserted two-lane stretch of asphalt. Years of work ended with a single gunshot. Yet, it’s not over.
A good Samaritan stops to help him, despite the danger he poses to her
Laine Wheeler knows better than to stop for strangers on the rural Montana highway near her home, but her conscience won’t allow her to leave an injured man behind.
What she doesn’t know is the man is an undercover ATF agent tasked with infiltrating a domestic terrorist group. His cover has been blown and helping him will put her life in danger.
Though there is an instant attraction, Jack knows that beginning a romantic relationship with Laine would be both unfair and unwise. Yet the farther they run, the harder it gets to ignore the feelings that are surging between them.
I have read hundreds of novels over the past few years - some fun, some erotic, some good, some well written, as well as quite a few that were poorly edited, undefined characters, and more sex than plot. But this book, is now rated as one of my all time favorite. This was not a book to be skimmed. I found myself reading every word, completely immersed in the action packed story. The characters were so well developed (no simple alpha male paired with a poor female that needed to be rescued). The reader can understand the characters, feel for them and want the HEA at the end. This story dealt the good and evil, grief and joy, forgiveness and love - all well written in a story that involved action, some mystery, and a great romance.
I love when a book grabs me from the very beginning. I always tend to find that it's a good sign of things to come. When you're talking about Accidental Affair by Leslie McKelvey, that statement is so true. Accidental Affair grabs you and doesn't let you go. It's thrilling and heart stopping. Saying that it will have you on the edge your seat might be saying too much for some people. But for me, it's a true statement. This was a book I couldn't stop talking about as I was reading it.
Jack Vaughn, is actually Agent Jack Vaughn, an undercover ATF agent who has spent the last eight years of his life on this ONE mission, of infiltrating and bring down the domestic terrorist organization known as CAG, Citizens Against Government. Jack's cover is blown and he barely escapes with his life and all the proof he needs to stop the organization.
The leader of CAG is a man named Ripley. Ripley seems to have had some type of military training. At times, he appears to be very relaxed, but one should never be fooled by his relaxed appearance. Because underneath the relaxed facade is a man full of anger who will NOT hesitate to kill.
Laine Wheeler is a woman with secrets. Not secrets that could hurt or destroy someone, but secrets she must suppress in order to just carry on with her life. Laine is a Veterinarian in the small Montana town of Evergreen Springs. Her life changes for the second time when a dirty bearded biker looking man tumbles down a twenty foot embankment and lands in front of her SUV.
Laine's medical background kicks in and she feels the need to help the man who she finds laying in the middle of the road in the middle of nowhere. Even as Jack tells her to grab his bag and leave him there because her life will be in danger, Laine refuses. This is the start of a cat and mouse game that will put both of their lives in danger and take them on an odyssey neither one totally expects.
With his cover blown, Jack doesn't know who he can and can not trust. All he knows is that the mole has to be within The Denver Federal Building. Jack MUST get to Denver and make contact with the one man he knows he can trust, Special Agent Ted "Bear" Bristol of the FBI.
If things weren't already tense and heated on the way to Denver, once Jack and Laine reach Denver, the heat intensifies. Jack and Laine's attraction for each other comes to a head and the sparks fly. A trap is set and not everyone who enters a hotel room will walk out alive.
Accidental Affair is a romantic suspense. For me, generally with any type of romance book, I tend to become mesmerized by the hero, but this book is completely different. Laine is just an average woman. She has no special military training. Heck, she probably doesn't even have any self-defense training. But Laine is definitely a person you want to have your back and stand by your side. The things she does are incredible. She is calm and collected and has a deadly aim.
Without a doubt, Leslie McKelvey is now one of my new favorite authors. I can't wait to read what she has next in line for us readers.
Author Leslie McKelvey's debut novel, Accidental Affair is an intense romantic suspense story that hooks the reader from the beginning and takes them on a non-stop action packed thrill ride.

Leslie McKelvey's Accidental Affair was absolutely riveting, from the first paragraph in which ATF agent Jack Vaughn rolls in front of Laine's car to the nonstop action that culminates in (spoiler alert) the couple reuniting after two years torn apart by the threat of a terrorist ring.
McKelvey mines deep knowledge of law enforcement to create a realistic and exciting story which intertwines love tension and threat of death by turn. The contrast of the two compelled me forward until I turned the last page and then returned to the first one to start all over.
It's hard not to root for and admire both Laine's pragmatism, calm under duress and growth from grieving widow to woman in love; and Jack's tender/tough foil and determination fueled by his first true love.
I really liked this book and stayed up late to finish it in one sitting. The characters Laine, Jack and Bear were so vivid, I felt like I knew them personally. The storyline was strong throughout with no lulls. The kissing and sex were sensual and felt natural, not forced. A great story that will capture your attention and hold onto it well after the story is over.
I couldn't turn the pages fast enough on this exciting novel. The characters are dynamic and realistic. The plot rolls you you forward on a wave of suspense and intrigue. A MUST read!
I absolutely "LOVED" this book, author, & Leslie's characters. You get hooked from the very first page. Excuse me while I go one-click #s 2 & 3 of this Romantic Suspense series.
A thrilling read. Laine is such a strong heroine. She's smart, brave and good with a gun. I fell in love with her immediately! Lots of heart pounding action. At one point, I thought I had it all figured out, only to be slapped with a great twist I never saw coming. All of the characters were great. I loved the secondary characters just as much as the main characters. Jack was great as Laine's partner in crime/love interest, but I have to admit, Bear is my favorite. I would love to know more about him. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes to read a action or romance!
