This scorching erotic memoir reveals the secret life of one of the world's most beautiful fashion models, as she falls for the wrong men (and women). The story begins in Paris when Katie Wolfer steps off the Dior runway and takes a call from her stepfather, Daniel de Goncourt. Her mother has committed suicide. Katie flees back to New York, where two men will loom large in her life—Gavin Poole, a hot, emerging fashion designer who doesn't like to commit, and her billionaire French stepfather, the magnetic Daniel. Katie becomes entangled with both of them, exploring her darkest sexual desires amidst a lavish, decadent lifestyle.
Katie's story will sweep you up in a world of beauty, sensuality and power. She is always in the crosshairs, seducing or being seduced. Thrilling, shocking and also thoughtful, this novel about a supermodel's sexual awakening is sure to arouse and intrigue you.
K M Dylan is a former model turned author. She is half French, half American and lives in NYC.
Her introduction to erotica was from amazing classics her parents had hidden away. After reading books by Anais Nin, Emmanuelle Arsan and Pauline Reage's Story of O, she decided it was okay to experiment sexually and came to view sex as a sensuous erotic experience. Her adventures have provided lots of inspirational material for her erotic writings.

Smart and Sexy
"Cult of Beauty" introduces us to Katie, a supermodel who's keenly attuned to her body and her desires, both mental and physical. She's also smart, thoughtful and flawed. Katie struggles, as we all do, with the pull between what we want and what is "right," what is fun and what is dangerous, and it's a hell of a ride! Katie tells the story, and her voice is fresh, insightful, often cuttingly funny. The writing is gorgeous throughout, and the numerous sex scenes are rendered evocatively and make you forget you're reading a book--you feel like you're there, seducing or being seduced. The men in this story are HOT, whether you fancy a college boy or an older French gentleman; the women are just as luscious. And unlike some erotica, the plot actually goes somewhere and remains tense and exciting throughout the book. I loved being swept up into this world of power and beauty, one I don't normally get to see. Looking forward to more from this author.
Katie Wolfer is a 22-year old supermodel known around the world. Her life is perfect, until a terrible family tragedy brings her home to New York from the Paris runways. Reality hits her in the face and she must look inside herself - not just rely on her outer beauty. Being a model, the “outside” has always been the most important thing. But life isn’t just about physical wants. It’s about emotional needs and desires. This is the story of Katie and her journey of self-discovery.
It was interesting to find out the author, K M Dylan, was a model herself. The story is wrote “loosely” on her own experiences as a supermodel. Just a few pages in I was Googling the author to find out more. I wasn’t for sure if this was a work of fiction, or more of a memoir. Either way, this was the inside view of the modeling world and all the excess that comes with it. I kind of felt voyeuristic. I think Katie (hmm, what a coincidence the author’s first initial is a K…) would have approved. You see, a lot of Katie’s self discovery involved sexual exploration.
Yes, this is one of “those” books. I know it’s not for everyone, and you have to be in the mindset to want to read an erotic novel. But wow, this had some dirty, sexy scenes. If she wasn’t imagining it, she was doing it. Just about every scenario imaginable played out at some point in this book. Nothing really seemed out of place in the story though, I felt like it all worked with the quirky, sometimes bizarre life of Katie.
The backdrop to her inner dilemma is a very sexually charged love triangle between a handsome stranger she meets and a much too familiar man that might just break up what family she has left. It’s a love triangle, but there is not a lot of romance in the book. Just tons and tons of smut. And why not throw in some taboo sexual attraction to her step-sister as well? You know, just for the excitement. Phew, it was exciting for sure.
Katie had a lot going on, between her sexual escapades and trying to figure out what she wanted in life. I do think the story could have been developed more. I would have liked to seen more conversing between the characters in addition to the sex. I wanted to know what was really going on in their heads, not just their pants. The book moved very fast, I read it in just a couple hours. It was like one WTF moment to the next.
The story ends in a way that it is obvious that this will be a series. And, I hate to say it, but the ending is where my “sad” description comes in. I can’t wait to read the next one. I rated the story a 3 because I wanted to see more of the story developed, but I give the very descriptive smut a 5. So over all, I give it a rating of 4. Just make sure you can handle a truly erotic novel before taking this one on, because it is a lot to handle. Taboo was not a word the author was familiar with, which makes one wonder even more how close the story was to a memoir….
It thrills me to say another great, fabulous, intriguing and stupendous book. This was a learning experience for me. I knew and of course read a lot about the modeling industry, but never such a raw version about the model and her point of view. One thing I learned was: GO to France. Those French people could teach the stick up the ass American's a lot. Everyone no matter what they look like is beautiful. They are born to be free and very expressive. I like that idea!
The book follows Supermodel Katie Wolfer through a fairly short period of time. It goes back and gives a little history here and there. She is just done with a modeling job when she gets a call from her stepfather. Straight from the Dior runway in Paris, Katie is informed that her mother committed suicide. How can her mother do this? Her mother has killed herself after being found out in an affair. It later comes out it was a bad error in judgement and it was her personal trainer and she couldn't forgive herself. This is a shock, but I soon discovered that Katie was not as distraught as I thought she should have been. Being a model changes your ideals, emotions and expressiveness. Katie was conditioned to roll with it. If something on a runway went bad, you carry on. I think she was struggling with being alone more than the loss of her Mother. Upon takeoff she has a very erotic encounter with Gavin, whom she just met on the plain. It turns out Gavin Poole is her rom mate Natasha's brother. Natasha is also a famous model, who is very free with her expression.
Now in NY her French stepfather, Daniel de Goncourt, a wealthy financier, greets her. Katie becomes entangled with both of them, exploring her darkest sexual desires amidst a lavish, decadent lifestyle. Her step brother Ryan is depressed and medicated, while her step sister Caroline is a step away from being medicated. I am sure there is controversy over the lifestyle, but I for one just sucked it all up.
This novel will seduce you like no other. Katie is seducing or being seduced by both male and female. She doesn't discriminate. Deeply erotic, thrilling, sensual, I know this book will intrigue you. I love reading about the New York and Hampton lifestyles. I marvelous book with the perfect amount of lustful sin. Go read it NOW!! (lots of steam, sex,and drugs if you cant handle a rated R movie don't read this one! Well maybe you do need to read this one as a social experiment, it could be what you need)
I will admit if it wasn't for this tour I don't know if I would have picked it up but I am glad that I got the chance to read this.
This book definitely was an erotica novel with more sex than story. I do prefer when their is more substance and romance but this book did keep me on an erotic edge the whole way through.
The thing about this book was also Katie's lifestyle which is not the typical norm for most people so it was like being a voyeur into her life with the sex and lots of sex, drugs and a whole lot of dysfunction.
I knew she was getting turned on and sliming me, like a snail leaving its trail on a garden path, as she humped my hip. loc 328
In this little tale be forewarned that there is a load of sex and questionable choices and f/f, f/f/f, m/f, m/f/m and voyeurism.
I didn't know there was going to be more parts of this story until the crazy cliffhanger at the end. I was so shocked with that end and super sad because in a perverse way I was becoming Team Daniel.
All in all not my typical read but I was drawn in and was left wanting more so I will definitely be reading the next installment
I was given a copy of this book for my honest review
To say this book was not my cup of tea would be a slight understatement, from the synopsis of the book I was expecting a great smut book. It started out interesting with Katie finding out her mother had died, she leaves the fashion show that had just ended and gets ready to fly home. She gets home and that's were the book lost me, she lusts after her dead mothers husband, then she proceeds to have sex with everyone. By everyone I mean her stepfather, stepsister, best friends brother who we find out she hooked up with on the plane ride home and one of her stepfathers friends. All this would not have bothered me if there was an actual story behind it, Katie seems emotionless, she doesn't care that her mother is dead. She does drugs and seems ok with the fact that the men around her use her, none of the characters seem to have any emotions either. I honestly don't know what to make of this book, it's smut but for me it wasn't good smut.
KM Dylan was a model before turning to the pen. I've seen pictures and she looks super.
In 'Cult of Beauty' she brings us her inside knowledge to weave a highly-charged, deeply erotic love triangle that leaved supermodel Katie Wolfer balanced on the highwire between the toned muscular arms of total hunk Gavin Poole and the sophisticated embrace of the the patrician millionaire Daniel de Goncourt - her stepfather, adding a decadent twist to this compulsive novel.
Which one will she chose? Only one way to find out...
Okay so my girl who is doing this blog with me didn't care much for the book and so I was a little apprehensive when I finally got a chance to start it. I will have to say that yes this book may not be for everyone, I did like it. It was a good hot read that I was in need for and I do believe that is a HUGE reason as to why someone will or will not like your book. You have to be in the mood for that 'type' of book. There are a few books that I didn't care for but others absolutely LOVED and well when it all comes down to it probably was because I was in the mood for something different then what that book was about. Anywho... with that being said here is what I thought of the book.
I started it and saw the forward and decided I wanted to know more about the author first before I got into it. It was set up as if the author was a model and I wanted to check it out and see if that was true or if it was just part of the book. So like I said I went to her Website and clicked on her about section and got so excited!
I am a former model. I am half French, half American and live in NYC. I love art, fashion, beauty and the erotic. I love to travel and especially the beach. Katie's erotic adventures in the Cult of Beauty novels are loosely based on my own crazy experiences in life... The key word is "loosely!"
My taste as a reader and a writer is toward decadent erotica—women with a streak of perversity who enjoy sex for it’s own sake, who like to be dirty, and will get a little kinky—whether it be with other women, multiple partners or exploring S&M.
There is a little bit of everything in this book and maybe that is what I liked about it. There is crazy sex, drugs and some taboo things that go on.
It is not a long book so for me it was a quick read, with that you will see that it is very fast paced which I enjoyed because there was never a dull moment. While reading I wanted to believe that this is how it is for models because well in all fairness, in movies they are portrayed a lot in the way that it is written.
It would be awesome to hear some of her actual stories with no fiction mixed in because to be honest I wanted to believe that this was all about her and what she has been through. :)
There were so many different scenarios that were played out and all though there were a few spots that I felt that she could have gone more into the story because well I wanted to know more, like with Ryan, overall I did enjoy the whole story. I will have to say that ending left me wondering what the hell was going to happen. haha I was at a loss and didn't know what to think, it was a bit of a cliffhanger.
This book is not for everyone and I understand that, there is SO much that goes on sex wise so if you are all about a hot steamy, sex filled book this is absolutely for you!
Where do I begin??? I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I knew going in that it was a fictionalized memoir, but it felt so real reading it. I had to take a few days before writing my review, because I was left a bit speechless. Also, I knew it was an erotic novel, but WOW! Let's just say my husband was really happy when I finished reading this one.
My perception of what life is like for a supermodel is based on what I've seen on tv or read in magazines. Sure, I appreciate beauty and think how great the traveling and clothes would be, but this book dove deeper into the reality of that lifestyle. This book is gritty, realistic, and a bit shocking. I don't know why I was surprised by some of the events, because I'm not an easily shocked person. None the less, I was.
One of the things I loved about the book was the relationship that Katie had with her stepfather. I know it may seem weird and when I was explaining the book to my husband, he was a bit repulsed, BUT I really like Daniel and I felt like he and Katie really did love each other. I think for Katie, Daniel was the most real person she had in her life. She has friends and lovers, but it seemed like she was most herself with him.
The sex was out of this world hot! I don't want to ruin the story, but I have to highlight a few scenes that made me melt. The first scene is between Katie and Gavin on the airplane on the way home from France. There were so many things that bothered me about the situation, but it was beyond hot. The second and probably the highlight of the sex scenes for me was a scene involving Gavin. He and Katie were having sex on the couch and Daniel was watching from the doorway. Seriously, I nearly lost it.
There were just a few things that affected my rating. The first few chapters felt a bit disjointed to me. The time sequence was awkward. The other thing was, I think I would have liked to have seen more of Katie's feelings. I would have liked to have gotten a better understanding about how she felt about losing her mother, her feelings for Daniel, and her lifestyle in general.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. While it has some disturbing moments, I felt sorry for Katie in a way. I know you must be thinking 'How can you feel sorry for a supermodel?' But, I did. Honestly, it seems like it could be a pretty lonely life. The ending shocked me. I truly wasn't expecting the book to end the way it did, but it certainly made me anxious for the next book! I have a few theories on where the story will go from here and I can't wait to see if I'm right.
If you are a fan of realistic fiction and erotica, you won't want to miss this book!
*Side note: I don't often comment on covers in my reviews, but I have to say that this book needs a new cover. The photo is pretty, but overall a bit dull for this story.
Don’t judge this book by its cover. Cult of Beauty made me feel hot. And dirty. Almost to the point of distraction from the writing and the story.
Cult of Beauty is the story of Katie, a 22 year old supermodel who goes home to attend her mother’s funeral. She is alone and without any close family. Katie is taken in by her step-father, Daniel. This is a fictionalized memoir, but the reading felt more like reality and I wondered where the lines were blurred. How much of this story was close to the raw reality of this life and lifestyle? If you like “light erotic”, this is not for the faint of heart.
I was intrigued and pulled into this book, but I also kept feeling like I needed to turn away. Katie is on a sexual discovery involving everything from women, collage aged and older men. The secret life of a supermodel is very appropriate for the subtitle to this book. This story tells of the secret world of sex, money, fame. But also I felt that this story told of sexual cultures, norms and perceptions. It pointed out the differences between a more European view on sexuality versus a more conservative view other parts of the world may take. But, I felt that despite the view there was always an underlying curiosity.
I would have liked to have had more character development in Katie. While it was obvious she was intelligent, beautiful and living a lonely lifestyle, I didn’t find a strong sense of her emotions in the writing.
Overall I found the author has a lot of talent for story-telling and has a beautiful mastery of words. While I am not a fan of F/F sexual situations or the ménage, this book definitely had the pages smoking. Keep in mind there is a definite distinction between erotic and romantic. This book is heavy on the former and it would be hard to call it a romance. So, just keep that in mind so that you know what you are getting with Cult of Beauty. I enjoyed the story and of course I was hooked and now will be waiting to find out what will happen next. Fair warning the ending left me hanging and shocked.
Cult of Beauty is a realistic fiction and solid erotic book. If you’re a fan, or want to try something different than the typical romances, give it a try!! 3.5 ~Stars
"Fifty Shades - I'm sorry you're out. Cult of Beauty - you're in" *in my best Heidi Klum voice*
This novel is the future of erotica and KM Dylan nailed it by writing a story that is so compelling and seductive that I was not able to put it down until I was done reading it - twice. If you enjoy novels that draw you into a world of explicit hot sex, beautiful models, fashion, drugs, and all the naughty things that are so bad that they're good, then this is the book for you. I'd describe it as an x-rated, grown-up version of Gossip Girl that has everything that 50 Shades was missing.
I'm a NY fashion editor for a well-known fashion magazine, and I'm pretty sure I know who the K M Dylan is... She was a major model in the 90s. Some of the erotic scenes in the story may be fantasy, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it is based on her real-life experiences of wild parties, drugs and sexual experimentation - models' love lives can get out of hand! I also think Dylan has exquisite fashion sense and her book reflects a deep knowledge of the industry.
Unfortunately, the quick preview that Amazon offers barely provides a hint of what's to come in this captivating novel that has an ending that you would never see coming. The beginning sets up the main character Katie and her situation and quickly builds into a steamy story about a supermodel's wild sexual adventures as she falls into an erotic triangle with the wrong (or right depending on how you look at it) men and women.
K M Dylan- congratulations on writing a provocative and extremely erotic novel filled with great characters that I connected to immediately. I have not been drawn into a story in a very long time and counting down the days until the next installment is released.
Okay first I have to give my speech about this book not being appropriate for readers UNDER 18. This is an adult book with adult themes and LOT"S OF SEX scenes that are not suitable for younger readers.
Okay with that being said this book was the craziest book I have every read. Lord I laughed sometimes and then there were times when I was like oh sh$$ did she just think that.... Man what a crazy story about a young model at the top of her game. Katie is living the high life doing what she wants when she wants and how she wants. She is a top model doing a cover shoot when she gets a phone call that will change her world. Her father calls her and tells her her mother died. At first she wants to throw a fit but she gets it under control and she flies home to her mother's and stepfather's place. Her stepfather offers her a place to stay and she accepts the offer.
As she is sorting her things out in regards to her mother she is also confused about the feelings she is having for two men. One is a bad boy who she should stay away from but she can't because he is so good at all things he does. Gavin is a ladies man and a man whore who does not want to commit to anyone. He is living his life and that is how he wants it. Then there is the forbidden fruit and that is her stepfather Daniel. She loves being with him and even fantasies about taking her mothers place. But is it wrong to be with your mothers husband?
Katie is exploring all avenues and she is delving deeper and deeper into her sexual side. What will she find? Who will she be with? This book is intense so know that before reading it. It also has a lot of sexual scenes that are not for the prude!
OMG!!!!!!!! I just finished this book....I need a few days to recoup! First I need to take a cold shower, then take another, this book was scorching hot! Lets kick things off with Katie who is a model at the top of her game! She's fresh off the Dior runway when she finds out that her mom has died! All Katie has is her nymphomaniac friend Natasha, who is also a super hot model, her sexy stepfather Daniel and his two children, spoiled Caroline, and his checked out son, Ryan! While Katie is trying to sort her life out, she decides to stay with her step family and that's when it gets interesting!
Katie is a horn ball, I tell you it doesn't take much to get this girl horny. Katie and her step sister go out dancing and she gets hot and bothered, not to mention this attraction she has to her stepfather that she's trying to keep in check! She looks at someone is goes wet between the legs! If this book is any reflection on the real life of a model...WOW! Katie is HOT and I have to admit, she's my first book girlfriend! She has no inhibitions from walking around the house naked, to seducing any and everyone. The sex sciences in this book were like nothing I'd read before...um...gangbang, cocaine lines, I don't consider myself prude, but some of these scenes made me blush!
The book overall is pretty good, Katie is trying to figure out her life and has some "fun" along the way. And damn it just as the book is about to get really interesting....CLIFFHANGER!!!!! iDied! I twitted the author about this, I need more, the book had just taken an unexpected turn and now I'm left hanging until book 2 comes out! I gave this book 4 stars, mostly because of the cliffhanger!
OH MY......this was one hell of a HOT book, definitely unlike any other erotic books I have read. Honestly, there were points when I wasn't even sure what the story was about because all I could focus on was the sex, sex, and more sex but the storyline picked up about half way through the book. 3 stars
Cult of Beauty is about Katie, a supermodel who is not only beautiful but comfortable with her body and know's exactly what she wants and what her body desires. When Katie comes home to attend her mother's funeral, she goes on a erotic journey that involves women, college boys, and older gentlemen including her stepfather. It's an inside look into a world of sex, money, privilege, and fame that most of us will never get to see.
Like I said, it took a little while for this book to pick up for me but once it did, it sucked me right in. I was shocked and stunned with the ending, and K.M. left it hanging so I can't wait for book 2 to come out so I can find out what the heck happened, what Katie will be up to next, and who Katie will be doing next!
On writing this review I see I bought this ebook back in January, I can't believe I didn't get around to reading it sooner. I was completely sucked into the life of model Katie Wolfer, the sadness of her mothers death and the twisted love triangle that is Gavin, Daniel and Katie. Lavish parties, plush dinners, photo shoots, sex, hot men, beautiful women, money, drugs, and fast cars. Although a bit cliche` it has what you'd expect from a world with beauty, money and power. But it does have some inappropriate 'moments' which make for exciting reading, that's for sure. A young beautiful woman experiencing feelings she struggles to push to the back burner. Katie is a strong and intelligent woman but with Gavin and Daniel she seems to lose herself. ( can't say I blame her though ) Shocking in parts, sometimes lacking in emotion, yet this is a thrilling ride of everything that is so wrong, and yet you'll want more! Well written, this did leave me gasping a few times and most certainly arousing. This is a series I shall follow.
A highly erotic (F/F, M/F/M scenes), fast paced, unpredictable and very well written story that will have your panties in a moist bunch pretty quickly. Any erotica fans will enjoy losing themselves within the pages of Cult of Beauty!
Katie is an intriguing woman. Just losing her mother, but still managing to move forward in life, growing, experiencing, living and changing in time as a woman should. The difference with Katie is she's VERY open minded, a fashion model, surrounded by a variety of spicy (and some forbidden) things and learns to indulge herself. Even with her life's perks and downfalls, Katie knows how to make the best of it with her head held high.
This was my first time experiencing K.M. Dylan's work and FAR from my last. I'm anticipating the next book of the series and hope it's to release VERY soon :)
Oh wow. This book was a lot to handle. Between wearing dead mother's thongs, lusting after step-father, doing drugs with said step-father. Oh and then the taboo of the step-sister, watching your daughter hook-up then doing drugs with said daughter. It was a lot to process. It was nuts. My head is all over the place. I think there might be another book. The ending was a little sad. But all in all you can't stop reading because you're like WTF I need to know what kind of crazy happens next!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was very well written and I do recommend it. Not only was it very sexy and fun, it kept me completely engaged from start to finish. The tone and narrative was appealing and I felt as though Katie was a friend giving me a run down on her life and all of the goings on. I really enjoyed the voyeur's view into a lifestyle of high fashion, fame and fortune that I will never experience. As with all good stories it left me wanting more. Hats off to Ms. Dylan.
This book was...... intensely frustrating. Really no other way to put it. I won't go into details explaining the book as lots of others have already done that, but damn! While there is tons of sex in this book, it's not necessarily erotica. It's more like she's trying to find direction after privilege and tragedy. Seriously complex emotions in this book and I ALMOST cried at the end.... seriously sad. Great book, tho!
Oh My God!!! Seriously that is all I can say. This book is ultra naughty, there is lots of hot sex in it. The money that is spent on clothes, bags, bathing suits, ahh it's like a dream. And the ending of this book, OMG, honestly I was surprised, and kind of crushed. Looking forward to reading the second book now!
KM Dylan is an exceptional author! The hook was in within a couple of pages. Katie is a supermodel that helps us see the unknown world of being a model. it is one crazy ride! i suggest this book to everyone! The sex is extremely HOT and well written! Great job, Ms. Dylan.
Wow! Just Wow! I really don’t know where to begin this review. I finished reading this book literally 30 seconds ago & I’m just floored by the ending. It was not at all what I expected!
Let me begin by saying that this book wasn’t my usual cup of tea (or coffee in my case). However, I did find it quite entertaining. A few other descriptive words come to mind as well: raw, gritty, sensual, seductive and erotic. Yes, deeply erotic.
Although this wasn’t my usual type of book, the storyline intrigued me and compelled me to return for more. Reading almost like a conversation or perhaps a journal, we experience a few weeks in Katie’s life from her point of view. She presents us with some fascinating insight not only into her life as a supermodel but also the lifestyle of the disturbingly rich and famous. It certainly held my interest, hence the reason behind the 4-star rating.
I liked the main character, Katie but in a motherly sort of way, not an ‘I want to be your friend’ way. Sometimes Katie appeared quite shallow but she had some admirable qualities as well. She was relatively intelligent and deeply thoughtful, although not always making wise choices. I attribute her unwise choices to being too caught up in the game. Additionally, never really having proper parental role models surely contributed to her making those unwise choices. I actually felt a bit sorry for her and wanted to take her under my wing. Imagine feeling sorry for someone so young, sexy, beautiful, and filthy rich. We all think we want that lifestyle but in reality it’s not all it’s cracked up to be!
When agreeing to review this book, I didn’t realize what I was getting into. The two locales where it takes place are local to me and the synopsis looked interesting. Consequently, be forewarned. If you decide to venture forth, this was erotica purely for the sake of erotica. There was no romance or beautiful love story with a happily ever after. However, there was plenty of steamy sex. And not just the m/f kind but m/f/m & f/f too. For me personally, it was a bit too much. But others enjoy that sort of thing. I’m not being judgmental & mean no offense; it’s just not for me. I prefer my hot & steamy with a side dish of romance. But by all means, if it peaks your curiosity, then go forth and enjoy! I doubt you’ll be disappointed by this explicit, naughty, drug-fueled, fashionista-filled ride. Just make sure you’re over the age of 18! (Or rather 30. You’ll think much more logically over the age of 30. I’m not sure I’d want my daughter to read this book in two years when she turns 18, not that I'd have any say in that by that time.)
Okay, so there you have it. And yes, I’m still reeling over the ending. Of course, I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t. If this type of read intrigues you then I say go for it. I will certainly be reading the next book because I must know what happens. So that says something, right?
I thought this would be more of an insightful exposé into the lives of high fashion supermodels and that sounded interesting. I knew from the reviews that it ventured into the erotica realm, so I kind of knew what I was getting into (though, not to the full extent, never having read one of that genre before), but figured it was somewhat inevitable, in order to accurately portray the life of someone involved in this industry. What it ultimately was, was one sexcapade to the next with little breathing room (ahem...) between them, and almost no room for plot. To cap it off, the majority of the book takes place at a house in the Hamptons, not the glitz of cosmopolitan Milan or Paris, etc., so there is very little variation in characters, and all of the ones involved are shallow, narcissistic, single-focus individuals who invariably (and improbably) appear to be pansexual- at least as regards this one shining example of the modelling community. All desire her and immediately make their desires and intentions clear, however recent the acquaintance, or however inconvenient the immediate resolution of those desires may be. And the ...er... resolution is usually immediate.
The main issue for me was that the writing was so palpably that of an ex-model who dabbled in college and dipped her toes in sophisticated culture. The grammar and structure were lackluster and often stilted, and the voice was not that of an experienced writer. She threw in some artistic references to famous artists and places, and there was a lot of name dropping (kind of expected, I guess, if one is trying to imbue a life of connection and luxury), but it mainly felt like it was included to exalt the novel to a higher intellectual plane than was merited. It aspired to glamorous, privileged intellectualism, but fell embarrassingly short of it. I am highly surprised (and suspect) of the many glowing reviews. I imagine there would be few 5-, 4-, or even 3-star ratings if it had not been a work entirely comprised of erotica. And it's not even good erotica. I was left feeling sadness and pity for the confusion, and lack of self-identity and self-worth of the main character; disgust for nearly every interaction between her and her "stepfather" - especially some of the "pep-talks" he gave her left me feeling slimy; and disbelief at the readiness with which this girl tumbles from one sexual interaction to the next, and readiness with which they are made available to her, and the readiness of those involved, to freely allow her to do so openly and without constraint of any kind.
In short, the whole novel resonated with a privileged selfishness, overindulgence, and rampant misogyny that was hard to choke down (unfortunate choice of words which are sadly applicable).
“Shame is shameful, life is short and you should do what you want to do.”
This was definitely a highly entertaining, fast paced story. This is a story of exploration and awakening as well as self-discovery, with the main character making no apologies for her actions. It completely takes you out of the normal run of the mill day and catapults you into a life of the decadent, the rich, and the sexually open and liberated; combined with issues like death, drugs and family dynamics.
Katie is an extremely complex lead character, as all good ones are. She has her flaws and her problems she needs to work through and overcome. There are things she does that completely baffle me; walking around the house buck naked in the presence of her step-father, Daniel, (even if he is French and she’s a model used to being looked at) and with a weird younger step-bother, Ryan, in the house. This is probably on the tamer side of her actions. There are a few others things which I didn’t understand at the time but as we learn more about Katie, I began to appreciate things from her perspective a little more. I do feel that I wanted to feel more of a connection with Katie, to see more of an emotional side to her. Perhaps to get into her head a little more as opposed to getting into her bed, though rarely did she have sex there ;)
This is definitely not a book for the faint hearted because the sex is off the charts HAWT and some of the acts are mind-blowing, both in content and arousal! I was actually surprised at how I reacted to some of the more ‘adventurous’ situations Katie found herself in! *winks*
Ms Dylan writes the seduction and sexual tension in such a way that it will leave you breathless!! I don’t think I can pass by a pool area anymore and not think about this book!! She writes with such detailed imagery, I could see the glint of devilment and lust in Katie and Daniel’s eyes when they were around each other and feel their sexual tension encompass their surroundings.
Go in with an open mind…. And your B.O.B or significant other nearby!
Cult of Beauty is captivating, outrageous, exciting, and definitely one to read for someone looking for something thrilling, erotic and different. I’m looking forward to seeing where Ms Dylan leads us next, after leaving us on tender-hooks awaiting the outcome of the perturbing cliffhanger ending!!!
“We all sometimes secretly want to be out of control, surrendering to pleasure with a strong man, to be helpless and out of one’s mind with desire.”
Have you ever wondered what a life of a person so beautiful it hurt to look at them may be like???? Cult of Beauty: The Secret Life of a Supermodel does just that. This is a very dark, sensuous, overtly and sexual story of a world famous supermodel who is dealing with some family issues in a very unique, indulgent, and self satisfying manner.
Katie walks off of a Paris runway... literally... and hears the news that her mother has died. The only living parent 22 year old Katie had is gone and she finds herself flying home to New York to deal with the aftermath. Katie experiments with men, women, drugs, her stepfather all in what I see as trying to fill a void in her heart. I truly believe that underneath this stunning shell of a body, she really just wants to find that one person that loves her for HER. Yes, she has a very dark, wild, impulsive way of showing it... but isn't that what we all want... someone to love and need us. Katie lost her father when she was 12 years old. She was raised by a mother who could barely make ends meet. Then mommy dearest marries into money and Katie's world is thrown for a tilt-a-whirl ride while she is trying to discover who she is as a teenager. Now fast forward to 22 and she is a careless, sex driven, desensitized woman working in an industry where your face and body is all you have and all you are known for.
My heart actually ached for Katie as she was left in a world with no familial connections trying to please everyone around her. She did it the only way she really knew how... with sex. I thought K.M. Dylan did a great job at writing a fictional story about a supermodel's life, but made it absolutely believable and realistic. Could this happen... for sure! Does it everyday... you know it!! I give Cult of Beauty: The Secret Life of a Supermodel 3.5 stars on the knock my socks off scale! Warning: If you are easily offended with homosexual relationships, blase sex and drug use... do not read this book. The author writes this warning in her prologue and kudos to her for that! :)
"We all sometimes secretly want to be out of control, surrendering to pleasure with a strong man, to be helpless and out of one's mind with desire."
Katie is a well known supermodel; beautiful, successful and desired by both men and women alike. Coming home from the runways in Paris after her mothers death she finds herself with a deep attraction to two men; Daniel and Gavin.
Daniel is her step father and should be off limits but Katie can't seem to keep him out of her thoughts. The sexual tension between the two is undeniable and even though you know its wrong for them to be together part of me was rooting for them as a couple. Gavin on the other hand is her best friends brother, a bad boy fashion designer who is not big on commitments but she wants him anyway. Aside from the physical attraction they had for each other I really didn't see the appeal in Gavin. He came off as arrogant and conceited with no real depth. There are also several other prominent charters in the book; Katie's step sister Caroline, her best friend Natasha and step brother Ryan. Each had their own issues/stories and adding on all the drugs they were doing and sex that everyone was having it was hard to keep track and really connect with any one character. I would have liked for the author to stick with one theme, build up some substance and see it through to the end.
Overall the book was well written with lots of very steamy and erotic moments that will leave you hot and bothered. It was like one big voyeuristic party that you know you probably shouldn't watch but just cant help yourself. I am intrigued to see how author KM Dylan continues Katie story in the next book.
e-book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review
Katie is a 22 y/o model who just received news while on a model shoot in Paris that her mother has died. Katie is now an orphan as her dad passed away 12 years ago. After receiving the news, Katie returns to the home of her stepfather Daniel, stepbrother Ryan, and stepsister Caroline. Daniel is about 50 years old and oozes sex appeal and sexual tension between Katie and Daniel ignite. Katie seems to be drowning in finding where she belongs in life. In her own words she was considered an “anti-slut.” However, since the airplane ride back home and the time she has been back home, she is attracted to the risky behavior of multiple sex partners, becomes a pleasure seeker, and is fascinated by the females who are drawn to her sexuality. Ryan suffers from a mental illness and fights his attraction to Katie to the extent of placing tobacco sauce in his eyes to prevent him looking at her. It seems as if everybody is drawn to Katie’s beauty, including Caroline. Gavin and Daniel fight for Katie’s attention. Katie is torn between the two. Gavin comes up with a contest and the winner will claim her. Daniel knows that this is not a fair contest and also a dangerous one. Who will win? It’s more than a fight for Katie, it turns out to be a fight for a life
um..I...I don't really know what to say here....LORD GEEZUS WHAT DID I JUST READ!!! If you thought fifty shades was racy...it has nothing on this book. Even I was a bit uncomfortable but I got over it cuz I wanted to know how it ended. AND BOY! that ending ...AAAARRRGHH!! WHYYYYY! I found it amusing the fact that Katie kept reminding us how "innocent" she was..

Cult of Beauty is about a supermodel who gets the call that her mother has passed while shes finishing a fashion show in Paris. This pushes her into an erotic journey that includes women, her stepfather, college boys, drugs and extravagance. It honestly was hard for me to get into. I think the only thing that kept me reading was the hot sex! lol But overall the whole vibe of it was very strange for me. She lusted after her stepfather, wore her dead mothers pearl thong, did drugs with her stepfather, and had sex with anyone around including her step sister. It was just all over the place. I feel like there was a lack of connection to her for me. She had a complete lack of any emotion to losing her mom, although they were not close over the past few years. The ending kind of abruptly stopped and was sad as well. Sounds like there might be a sequel, but I’m not sure if I would read it. So besides the “hotness” of the sex, this book didnt draw me in like I wished it would.
