In full disclosure I have received both this book and the first book in the series free from the author.
The author done a great job of recapping the events of the first book, if it has been a while since you have read book one then you will be able to catch up again with the story without having to reread book one. The reminders were nicely spread out and appear only when needed; they go into enough detail for you to remember what happened but don’t go on for too long.
There are also great reminders throughout the book of whom a character is, this is especially important as they have unusually names (the book being based on Eastern culture) and it would be hard to remember who a character was without these reminders.
The descriptions in the story are great, it is very easy to follow what is happening and to visualise the world, but they don’t go on for too long or get bogged down in too much detail.
The magic system is fantastic, it takes time and energy for the characters to cast spells, they are able to take shortcuts to cast spells quicker but they will hurt themselves in the process. The author has clearly thought out the system and brings it to the reader in an interesting and informative way. The spells have interesting names.
The characters are excellent, they go through interesting developments. The interaction between the characters is fantastic and their personalities really come out during these moments.
The book also has plenty of funny moments and it very entertaining.
The story ends on a cliffhanger, although the current story is pretty much wrapped up in this book. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

15 year old, kind natured Turesobei (i just call him terry) faces many challenges and hardships, he is a wizard in training, next in line to be high wizard, forced into a dreadfully arranged marriage, and after gaining new strength powers and talents from the previous book he is now in the eyes of his people a weapon of mass destruction to be used against theyer enemies. sobei has received a blood stained letter (enchanted to seek out its recipient) from his girlfriend a catlike assassin named Iniru, the message saying that she has went up against a group of assassins titled: the deadly 12, and that she just wants him to know that she does love him, sobei is now forced to make a critical decision that could penitentialy destroy his kingdom and quite possibly reshape the entire world, does he choose love and pursue iniru in an attempt to save her life (even tho she is most likely dead already) or does he stay and protect his kingdom and suffer the fate set for him as a murderous military weapon for the sake of his people... obviously the answer is to get the girl (its pretty much in the tittle and description).
the previous book of the currently 2 part series "storm phase" was an easy 5/5, however if the option was available id be tempted to give this one a 4.5/5 mostly for the endings partial cliffhanger, and the few slow moments in the book, well to be fair the book had no real slow moments its just that in comparison to the first book there was considerably less action, it almost felt like the hobbit at a couple of points, what with it being a long story mostly about the travel to theyer main quest, where as the first book was about quest after quest, taking down one enemy only meant that they had yet another to go through. for me this earns a 5/5 for its pure adrenal educing ending, Alastair Hayden has a unique and raw talent for action sequences. i plead with anyone to pick up this series and support his work, and hopefully a "storm phase 3" is already in the works, if anyone knows please tell me.

Turesobei Chonda is a high born wizard of the Chonda Clan. He is the heir of Chonda Lu the founder of his clan, but there is much more happening than what meets the eye, as is continually made clear as the story progresses.
His clan is on the brink of war with a rival clan who is amassing a great army against them, as the next high wizard of the clan and having been imbued with the storm energies from a recent victory for his clan all hopes are on him for victory but love and duty often conflict. His beloved is in danger but to help her would mean leaving his clan defenceless.
The lair of the deadly twelve an engrossing read as Turesobei seeks to find out who he is and exactly what he should be doing with his life. It is fast paced without losing out on its content, there are unexpected turns and a storyline that keeps drawing you deeper and deeper. In this second book previously minor characters are developed further, showing more personality and depth and have much more impact on the story's direction.
Overall it is a great book both for those caught up in the fantasy genre and for people simply looking for an exciting read and its left me with one question "what's going to happen in the next one?!"

Demands of love and family
The second in the series sees Turesobei struggling with the demands of his family, the powers threatening to overwhelm him, and the threat to Iniru, the cat-girl he loves. A fun book that mixes high adventure with Asian mythology to achieve a new voice in fantasy. If you like Rick Reardon or J.K. Rowling give This a try.

Amazing! a vry good book from the first to the second.. i love fantasy so much so this capture my attention.. worth the read. another fantasy book added to my collection.

Great imagination
Another quality series. A page turner till the end. Great imagination and story line. Recommended for all ages. I will definitely read entire series.
