Katamaranen (is. Tvíbytnan). I think this book should be taught in schools. I didn’t expect what I discovered, not in a book written for teens, especially considering it was published in 1976. Interestingly, the book addresses so many aspects of the human condition, including toxic masculinity, inequality, suicide, domestic violence, alcoholism, sexuality and sexual abuse. And quite simply the fragility of children and how they’re shaped by their environment. I discovered a rich story of innocence and it’s dismantlement, intelligence wasted, and how a legacy of dysfunction is maintained, without ill intentions. It’s a highly recommended read and is so much more than just a teen’s book.
