Book five from the Love Inspired Suspense series "Texas K-9 Unit". K-9 officer Parker Adams and cold-case detective Melody Zachary, working along with Parker's canine partner Sherlock, are investigating a break-in at the teen center that Melody has founded in her nephew's memory. Her nephew's murder still remains unsolved. They discover drugs on the premises while searching the building and need to find the person or persons responsible. There is also the possibility that these crimes may have ties to the local crime syndicate that they have been trying to take down.

This was another enjoyable entry in the K-9 Unit series featuring another wonderful dog. Parker and Melody made a very appealing couple and I loved adorable Sherlock. Melody's nephew's murder is solved in this book, but the continuing storyline of the local crime syndicate and its mysterious Boss remains to be solved in the next book in the series.

3.5 Stars!
I liked this book! It's not one of the best Love Inspired Suspense novels I've read but it's still good. I found the story to be somewhat predictable in places-I had the villain pegged the first time that character appeared on the page so it was a little frustrating that the hero and heroine couldn't see the same things I did! I loved Parker's drug detection trained beagle, Sherlock!
I really liked the ending, it was quite surprising!
I'm excited to read the final book in the series, Lone Star Protector as I really like both Slade and Kaitlin and want to see if my guess as to the identity of the super villain known as "The Boss" is correct, I also want to find out if they are able to find Slade's dog, Rio!
All in all, Scent of Danger was a good one time read and I'm glad I read it!

I've read other Terri Reed books that I enjoyed much more. This one doesn't have any heart. It's like she had a deadline and just wanted to fill it. The best part of this book is the lack of sex. Reed makes an attempt at bringing romance, which was a nice surprise.

My copy of the book was published in 2013. I'm hopeful that Chapter 9 is fixed in copies made after mine. I had to actually remove pages and reorder them in order to make any sense of it. The lack of a final read-through before publishing was a huge letdown for me. I could have forgiven the story much more if I'd at least have had the book in proper order.

I apologize for the two stars, Terri Reed, but it's just in this case. I have enjoyed everything else of yours I've read and this in no way reflects upon you personally. I just feel like this was far more homework than artwork.

Written well as usual by Terri Reed, the loss of Detective Melody Zachary's nephew has pushed her into a search for the killer. Not wanting to believe that her nephew and sister were involved with the BOSS of drugs in the area, the investigation points that way. Melody has a partner at the Teen Center where she works some of the time, but another young detective begins to take on her obsession to find out who the BOSS is and why people have been murdered. He is kind, attractive and available...has an endearing K-9 dog that helps on the case. Mystery surrounds this case in a big way! A very good novel.

What can you say about a handsome K-9 Detective and his handsome partner a beagle with a nose that make criminals shutter in their wake and a very independent Detective that depends on no one but herself to solve her nephew and sisters murder/suicide cases. That they each have family that died of drugs makes them unite to find out who is bring the drugs in and hurting the kids of Sagebrush Texas and the community as well. But despite the way they look at each other time is running out for Melody's life and jet what they find is so devastating to her that it will take a heart of Porter Adams and friends and the open heart of God to help her through all of the pain that's to come.

I have always enjoyed reading Terri Reed's stories. Scent of Danger is apart of the Texas K-9 Unit series. I am gonna have to go back and read the other four books before I read the very last one so I can catch up.

Scent of Danger was about Detective Melody Zachary and Narcotics Officer Parker Adams along with his sniffing canine companion Sherlock. Melody and Parker are an amazing couple together, these two are afraid of committing to one another due to past failures, but in the end with faith and trust in God they both realize that they are good for each.

I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the other stories in this series to find out the conclusion.

Loved this book!! Melody is trying to find out who killed her nephew, and why. She's opened a center to try to reach other teens before they go down the same road her nephew did. When Parker and his K9 partner, Sherlock, find drugs at the center, Melody doesn't know what to think and who to trust. The more time Parker and Melody spend together, the more both of them realize how much they're afraid to trust each other and God. Will they be able to figure out their feelings before it's too late?

This has been my FAVORITE from this series. I loved the main characters. Dedicated, smart, tenacious. And the chemistry is off the charts. I loved how their relationship started out as trusting and leaning on each other. The natural friendship they felt for each other growing to something stronger. It makes me want to try more books by this author.

Another good read in the series. I began to have a guess as to the identity of the Boss in the last book and that guess seemed to be supported in this book or else it sure is a good "red herring." I look forward to reading the next book to see if I'm right.

Fantastic series

Have thoroughly enjoyed this series! Can't wait to read the last book in this series. A little sad because I have enjoyed each book so much that I hate for the series to end. Figuring out who is the Boss has been a challenge!!

This Book Was OMG Good!

I can't imagine having a family member murdered and then another commit suicide. Such tragedies could certainly either turn you to or from God. This series is fantastic.

Another good story in this series. Fear and trust two elements that make for a good story. This story is action packed and shows how to grow through adversity.

"Scent of Danger" is a romantic suspense. It's the 5th book in a series and continues the ongoing mystery about the stolen K9. Because of this, some events in the previous novels are spoiled in this one, but it can be read as a stand alone novel.

Melody's soon going to get tired of Parker bossing her around. It's a pattern: She has an idea about her nephew's case (which she's still working) or the ongoing mystery, but Parker thinks it's a bad idea. She tries to convince him and makes it clear she'll do things without his approval (as he's simply her protection, not her partner, and they have different bosses). He says to let him handle it and calls it in or whatever before she can even when she should really be the one doing so.

An example: She thinks she's discovered who her nephew's unknown father is (which is pertinent to the case), but he scoffs. She later makes her case to him with some more evidence, and he tells her that her persistence on the topic is unhealthy and she needs to let it go. (It's not.) She decides to go to her boss anyway, so he says to let him approach their bosses as it'll show his support. She's grateful for the apparent support. But he made no move to actually approach their bosses until he's lost his chance with her and thinks it'll win her back.

Or the flip side, he had trustworthy information from a source, but she refused to believe it and tried to do things her way rather than according to procedure. He's also supposed to be protecting her, but one time he got so focused on another task that he left her behind in the dark, dangerous woods wearing a form-fitting dress, high heels that sink into the earth, but at least she had a gun.

And what about love? Well, she's convinced to wear that form-fitting dress, more makeup than normal, and high heels. That turned him on, and he then constantly rubbed her bare shoulder, caressed her cheek, touched her hair (all while not wanting a romantic relationship). She's attracted to his manly, handsome body and singing voice. This is real love! Hm. He's determined to convince her to trust him (rather than prove to her that he's trustworthy over time) and hopes that their couple-weeks-long relationship (which started with him assuming she's dealing drugs) will be deep enough that she'll "love him no matter what." Sigh. She only became open to a relationship after she realized that she's going to grow old alone (no family, etc.) while visiting a nursing home and then emotionally went to pieces when Parker got hurt protecting her. Horrible reasons to get married.

The suspense came from the physical danger to Melody. The Christian element was trusting God even when He doesn't answer your prayers the way you wanted. There was no sex or bad language.

Melody and Parker share a common issue, having lost a loved one to drugs. She has a center for youth, in which drugs were found, and Center closed. Will they find who is guilty or planted the drugs, even to office being ramshackle. She is a cat person can she love a dog and the master. Enjoyable reading.

Parker and Melody's story works because they knew each other before Parker became Melody's de facto bodyguard. Their common traits blend well, and her hesitancy about Sherlock the beagle was sweet. The overall story arc of these six books is great - we get a little more information each time. This was the appropriate time to bring in the syndicate's involvement in illegal drug trafficking.
