Realtor Catherine’s rich clients fall for a Victorian Gothic house. With its high pointy roof and peaked windows, marble fireplaces and plaster moldings, it looks just like a haunted house. And Catherine’s bad luck—it turns out actually to be a haunted house.
The rich man who owned the house was murdered, shot in the head as he was working in his study. A week later, his wife was shot as she walked out of her bedroom. Their ghosts are haunting the house. It’s pretty clear they want something. But what? The ghost with the head wound can’t even talk, but he’s trying to do something.
The clients are really rich and completely insensitive to ghosts, and Catherine can tell they’ll buy the house sooner or later. Till they do, she’ll just have to suck it up, whatever happens.
This is the third book in the series (I've also read #4 Ghost Paparazzi, which Goodreads doesn't even have listed). I've enjoyed them all but this one least of all. Catherine is a real estate agent who meets Amanada and her husband. They are obviously well-to-do and are looking for an unusual house. Catherine shows them a huge old Victorian that they fall in love with. Trouble is there are 2 ghosts Catherine meets the first time she takes them there. One is missing part of his face so he cannot communicate with her. The 2nd ghost (wife of the first) is in the upstairs bedroom but is hard to talk with since she just keeps repeating the same line over and over. During subsequent visits with Amanda to measure, etc Catherine stumbles on yet another ghost (#3) who is unrelated to the first 2 and doesn't want to leave the house. My only problem with this book is that there is a HUGE leap from what Catherine and Jake (her detective boyfriend) suspect happened to the ghosts and the eventual conclusion. It's like Ms. Monson wasn't quite sure how to solve this one so just let them guess at it and they were right. Course we never got to read any of it, it just happened.
I was given a digital copy of this book from LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. I do not know the author. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is the second novella in this series. Catherine is a sensitive to murdered ghosts. Catherine, a real estate agent, and her boyfriend, Jake, a homicide detective team up again to solve another murder. Of course, Catherine's good friend, Camilla is also in this story and helps Catherine & Jake.
This time, instead of being two ghosts that were killed on prom night, it's a ghost, Jason, stuck in a house that Catherine is trying to sell. Together Catherine, Jake and Camilla work to solve the mystery and help Jason.
I like that the stories are short. Even so, the characters are developed enough to bring the reader into the story believably. This story of ghosts is not like all the other ghost stories and that makes it very enjoyable.
In Ghost Lovers, Catherine and Jake team up once again to solve the murders of a rich husband and wife who were killed in their own home. Despite the fact that Catherine has experience tucked under her belt when it comes to dealing with ghosts, she still finds it uncomfortable being in the same room with them. Imagine her surprise (and chagrin) when, in the course of showing the murdered couple’s house as part of her realtor duties, a third ghost appears! With the help of her friend, Camilla, and Jake, Catherine’s sweet, understanding boyfriend, Catherine is able to help solve the mystery and find her own resolve in dealing with ghosts in the process.
Monson has once again created a well-written romantic ghost story that readers can devour in one sitting. I actually enjoyed this novella more than the original, and I can’t wait to read more of this captivating series.
*I received this book from Member Giveaway at LibraryThing.*
This time Catherine discovers the ghosts of a murdered couple on a house she is showing to potential clients. The man was killed with a gunshot to the head so he's incapable of communicating, and the woman just keeps saying it doesn't make sense...
So it's up to Catherine and Jake (with a little help of her friend Camilla - who can also see ghosts) to solve the crime and give the ghosts the closure they need to move on.
I found this story to be better written than the previous one. The writing flows more easily and doesn't feel so disjointed. Sadly, I still could not relate to the characters enough to really care about them...
What drew me into this novella was the unique approach the author took with ghosts and those who are sensitive to them. Instead of floating around room to room scaring people, these ghosts are anchored to the spot where they died. This is a good quick read, and I think that even though it’s short, it’s the right length. I feel like turning the plot into a full novel might be too much. *It’s not incredibly important, but if you’re able to read Ghosts of the Past first, do so. Some of the characters and back stories mentioned in Ghost Lovers appear in Ghosts of the Past. You won’t be lost if you don’t read that one first, but it would help things make more sense.
I won a copy of this ebook, thank you Jane Monson. Interesting short story of Catherine who is sensitive to ghost, but not just any ghost, murdered ghost! I enjoyed her interactions with the ghost she met in the haunted house that she is trying to sell. Can read in an afternoon easily as it is a very short book.
A quirky short story about Catherine and her ability to sense and talk to ghosts. I enjoyed the way the mystery of the story built and I wanted to know what had happened to Jason Geiss. With the help of Catherine's boyfriend Jake and her friend Camilla, Catherine manages to solve the mystery. A good short read, not scary and a good conclusion. 3/5
It's ok if you want a quick read for a rainy afternoon. It's just that is so short you don't have time too really get into the characters. Still, I like how is different from the typical ghost stories.
