She won the 2009 RT Award for erotica. Leigh was born in Ohio and raised in Martin County, Kentucky, US.
I Hope Lora gets back to her better style of writing. Hopefully she tones the sex scenes in Ultimate Sins so it doesn't overshadow what can be a fantastic story. To much erotica gets boring!
This review has no rating as the reaction is all about me.
Imagine a high-adrenaline thriller. One of those action-fueled summer-blockbuster that leaves you high and exhilarate. Now, imagine seeing that same movie with a 3 minute ad break every 10 minutes of pure action. How long would you take to get first frustrated, then pissed to hell and back?
Well, to me it took to half time. I'm now at 46% of this story and I'm ready to commit murder. There is no time for the story to grow and develop, because the author planted a sex scene every few pages. Whatever intriguing plot it might have had, it drowns in never-ending, boring and meaningless sex scenes. They talk, they have sex. They quarrel, sex. They walk, sex. Sex. And again sex. Jee. Give time to the story to breath, please.
I love my sex as any red-blooded gal out there. I love the Breed, and I've loved a few of Ms Leigh's cont, too. But I do want a story outside the sex. I really fail to see how this book can be read. It's really frustrating.
Add to this that the hero is a jerk, he has been using the heroine in the worst ways for years in his quest for revenge. He controlled her life, too. But as I often say, I can manage jerks as long as I'm given an heroine that grinds their asses and let them see the light.
Here I'm offered a victim. In all her actions and reactions, in all her relationships that's what she is. It goes beyond a doormat (which by the way she utterly is), as I said she's a victim. And, strike three, she's the "walking bag" trope. The woman lead by her vagina and her hormones, not her brain. We are told how clever she is, how she survived her serial killer father and helped others, too. But hey, here comes the hero and, while she's saying no and no again, she opens her legs and start posturing. Please, do you really think this is what I want to read? No, thank you. I don't want to read about a woman who can't live without a man. Who pines away even years (and I mean years) after he dumped her.
At the moment I can't really stand to keep reading this. I might try again in the future, when my anger has somewhat been tuned down. :D
I was sent a copy of the book for review though Net Galley, as always, all opinions are my own.
I’ve read quite a few books from Lora Leigh, but this one ended up being a constant source of frustration. I really wish it had been up to her usual standards, but I gave up less than half way through. The huge (years long) jumps in time only break up the story and make it hard to follow. The way Crowe Callahan treats Amelia is shameful and the fact that she continually lets him treat her like a doormat just pisses me off. I want to read a book where the characters make an actual connection, not continue in what is clearly an abusive relationship. Nothing about this book made me want to go back and read the rest of the series, which is one of the few by Lora Leigh that I haven't read.
I didn't realize when I started this that you really need to read all books in the series in order so I am DNFing for now. I will return but now isn't the right time.
The ARC was provided by Net Gallery and St. Martin's for a review.
I apologize in advance for all the cursing. However, I cannot fathom what the fuck Lora Leigh was thinking! The hero is a rapist, he is a walking dick, every time he sees the heroine he fucks her and it doesn't matter that most of the time she says no!! DISGUSTING! Reading this book made me sick!
This is the dumbest shit I have read in a while! The story started off promising for the first 4-5 pages and then it went downhill. The plot is the hero being an idiot, sexed up jerk and the heroine is a doormat who thinks with her vajayjay.
Mainly the problem is the douche-bag hero. I wouldn't wish this asshole on my worst enemy!! Wow, the guy has no tact or heart. He is the biggest abuser of the heroine; I mean the selfishness, cruelty, abuse, torture is expected by the villain but for the hero to be cut of the same cloth... NO THANK YOU! The first time H&H are together he has sex with her and then leaves her for "her own good." This is after the heroine has helped him find evidence (that her father has) which falsely implicates him and his cousins in rape and murder of their former lovers. The heroine's father has been after the hero's family for a long time. He's murdered most of the hero's family members. So fast forward seven years down the road it's almost over but for some reason the douche bag hero has decided to take out his anger on the heroine. All his frustrations can only be vanquished after he gives the heroine a pounding... in her vajayjay. Seriously the plot couldn't move forward without an unnecessary sex scene.
I expected better from Lora Leigh. I haven't read any full length novels by her in while and honestly I won't be reading anything by her for a while either. Most of the story between the H&H was a very abusive relationship. This was worse than Bella and Edward bullshit!
I was really looking forward to this book. I wanted to see the cousins beat Wayne, to be vindicated for what happened to their parents and what the County did to them. It's too bad Crow was such a bastard that he ruined the book for me.
I hated how Crow treated Amelia, both in the past and the present. I can sort of understand the past, he was a kid too, but in the present he was just plain cruel. With a Leigh book you expect lots of sex and there was that, but most of the time it was angry sex that made it seem like Crow was punishing Amelia for the choices she made over the years to protect Crow. It also annoyed me that Crow knew that Amelia wanted space from him, she needed it to protect herself from getting hurt like when she was a kid. But Crow wouldn't give her that, in fact he used her body's response against her.
When all was said and done and it was revealed the lengths that Amelia went to, to protect Crow and his family I was astounded. It took a strong woman to do all of that.
I did love the flashbacks that Crow had, the time spent with his father teaching him some great life lessons. It's too bad he didn't remember them until it was almost too late.
For me the highlight of the book was one of the secrets that came out that packed a punch to Crow. It was great to see Crow put in his place a couple of times by a pint sized figure!
Ultimate Sins is the fourth book in the Callahan’s series from Lora Leigh and first of all, I must stress the importance of reading these books in order because otherwise you are going to be completely lost. Leigh specializes in convoluted plots with plenty of sexual tension and angst, so I will tell you that this series is quite complex in its framework from start to finish. With that caution in mind, let’s move onto the subject at hand, shall we?
Ultimate Sins had some unexpected surprises revealed as Leigh brings the story of the Callahans full circle. Now although I did think that some aspects were entirely predictable, some weren’t so the story was still fun to read. There were plenty of heated moments between Crowe and Amelia, but I was sad to see Crowe display some very unheroic like behavior. I get that Amelia liked his dirty talk, but sometimes I thought that he was just beyond crass at the most inappropriate of times. Because these two have kept their relationship secret for so long, they tended to use sex instead of communication more often than not. It was also Crowe’s modus operandi when faced with a disagreeable Amelia. *insert eye roll* Moving on from that though, these two did have an intensity that was pretty explosive, so I really enjoyed that. Now what did manage to surprise me in the book was just how deep Amelia’s secrets ran, but I dare not spoil it or anyone by going any further. Just know that she has some deep secrets that no one was able to figure out until she felt like showing her hand.
Unfortunately, I do have to admit that the thing that bothered me the most about this book were its inconsistencies. I honestly found far too many to list. I understand that since this was an unedited copy that errors are to be expected, but it went beyond just your average errors and was in the content itself. I just hope the release copy is cleaner, and that those issues get fixed because it pulled me out of the story every single time I came across one. In the end, we had a great build up to the conclusion of this series. So much in fact, that I ended up feeling cheated that things with Wayne didn’t come to head until I was 94% of the way into the book. I honestly think that more time should have been spent on that considering his evil deeds have spanned the course of this four book series. It was just kind of anti-climatic for me personally.
Overall though, I still think that Ultimate Sins was an entertaining read, and I’m definitely glad to finally put this storyline of the Slasher and the Callahans to rest. I think that Crowe and Amelia belong together, and I was happy to see that it all worked out for them in the end. I was thrilled to also note that we may even have a possible lead in with a follow up story for Rory Malone and Resnova’s daughter. I do so hope that Leigh does continue with that, because I’ve always thought that Rory should have his own story since finishing the Elite Ops books. I'm definitely crossing my fingers for that one. :)
*I received a review copy from the author/publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.*
Quick & Dirty: A book full of sex and not much plot, this is officially my first DNF since starting to review for Dark Faerie Tales.
Opening Sentence: The file was far more than he’d expected.
The Review:
Well, this is it. My very first DNF book since starting to review at Dark Faerie Tales. It goes against my nature to DNF a book, but I just could not make it through this one. I knew within the first five percent of the book that it wasn’t going to be my cup of tea, but I wanted to give it a shot. I gave it until the halfway mark, and it was a long process to get there. Once I got halfway through, I just couldn’t do it anymore.
I’ve said before that I’m not really fond of books that are all sex and no plot. When there was a sex scene within the first 3 percent of the book, I had a feeling this was going to be one of those, and if the first half is anything to go by, that is definitely the case. I don’t think there was one scene with the two main characters that did not involve sex. It got old very fast, especially since the “hero” of the story is so unlikeable. It seemed like every sex scene involved Amelia saying she wasn’t interested, Crowe being completely arrogant and determined to prove her wrong, and them having sex despite Amelia not really wanting to. Mentally that is – physically, she’s completely into it, so I guess that’s supposed to make it ok, but it was still really distasteful to me.
As far as the plot goes, not a whole lot happened in that first 50 percent that wasn’t sex. Crowe and Amelia are trying to draw out Amelia’s father, a serial killer who killed Crowe’s parents and wants to make his life miserable. He’s faked own death and gone into hiding. I was faintly interested in this storyline, but with it not going anywhere, I wasn’t interested enough to keep reading.
All in all, this just was not a good read. As much as I hate to say it, it was torture for me to even get through the first 50 percent. Maybe people who enjoyed the other books in this series will enjoy this one, but I just couldn’t do it.
Notable Scene:
Don’t leave me, she wanted to beg. The words locked inside her. Please, please God, don’t leave me. Don’t let me go. The need remained locked in her soul.
She wouldn’t beg him for more than this, and she would only beg when the pleasure was too painful to bear.
But she would always, always love –
The room was silent, the hands on the clock still hanging on the wall ticking ever closer to the moment when he’d have to leave her.
What the hell had he done?
She had somehow managed to slip into his heart, and Crowe knew he had no choice but to walk away. For her sake, he had to. He couldn’t allow this to happen again. Each time he held her, each time he took her, he was risking her further. Each time, she burrowed deeper into the heart he was certain he no longer had.
The heart his training had ruthlessly pared down to essential function only. He could have sworn there was no longer the ability to love within it.
But Amelia was proving differently.
FTC Advisory: Macmillan/St. Martin’s Press provided me with a copy of Ultimate Sins. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
Lora Leigh Ultimate Sins was a erotica with a bit of criminal mystery. Within first 5% you know the size, color and wetness of the protagonist's body parts, how they fit together and what they can do with them. You also will know who the culprit is. So if you know all that, and you know it's a love story with a happy ending, why would you keep reading? Well ... tell you the truth, I do not know. I kept reading since I received the ARC from NetGalley and wanted to give my honest opinion, but why would anybody else keep reading?
Well anyway, after the sex in prologue, the first chapter does not disappoint and it also has more sex than any other interesting information about the criminal mystery. As I already pointed out at the beginning there is more sex (notice, never making love, always fucking) than anything else. The chapter may start with Amelia saying "We need to talk!" and Crowe is answering "Tell me you are not wet and ready for me right now?" and even if Amelia says again "We need to talk!" he makes sure there is no talking, but they both keep their brains busy with worrying how the other will react when they hear all the secrets they keep from each other. Besides this constant fuckfest we are not once allowed to forget that Amelia and Crowe started their carnal relationship seven years ago, and Crowe left seven years ago and Amelia has been her "father's" victim for seven years and ou, did I mentioned, that Crowe broke Ameilas heart seven years ago, and Amelia had kept her biggest secret for seven years. So do you know when the story started? I'll give you a hint, it's a number after six :).
I, like most red blooded female readers, like love/erotic romance with criminal mystery twist, I like strong men and hot sex scenes and intriguing mystery that keeps you on your toes. But if the criminal mystery is basically just a footnote in a nonstop fuckfest which was not always wanted by Amelia and most often initiated by Crowe, then it gets boring, course how many times you can read about BJ and BE and taking his member to the hilt and her tight sweet ... you get the picture. It started to feel like script for a cheap porno movie.
This has been my worst experience with erotica/criminal mystery novel.
Ultimate Sins is the 4th book in The Callahan series by Lora Leigh. I haven’t read the previous books so I missed a lot of the overall series plot but I didn’t have any issues understanding the storyline.
I’m sorry to say that I didn’t really like Ultimate Sins. It irritated me through much of it. I couldn’t stand the hero, Crowe, for a good percentage of the book. He was just such a jerk and always going for sex with the heroine, Amelia. In fact I felt there was too much sex in the book in relation to the story and the romance. I didn’t like Amelia and Crowe together. He just seemed so angry with her all the time, and for what I ask? He was taking his anger and frustration out on her. Evidently sex is the only way to soothe his savage beast.
The way Crowe and Amelia interacted together was just unappealing. It was more about sex than romance which I didn’t appreciate or enjoy. The romance was sorely lacking. Also, I knew Amelia’s secret from pretty much the get go and I didn’t care for that plot point either… In fact I felt the plot was totally ridiculous overall. The revenge plot that Wayne had against the Callahan’s was so overdone. In reality the only parts of the story that I enjoyed were the very beginning before Crowe left and the last quarter or so of the book.

I LOVE Lora Leigh! Her books are always so intense! She's a great writer and always keeps you on edge with her series.
I have no idea how I missed this series (Four whole books!). I'm floating in oblivion lately! Her Breed series is my favorite, but I found that it doesn't matter each series is pretty great.
Saying that, there were some love hate feelings about these particular characters. I hated Crowe most of the time, loved Amelia half the time, but I really wanted her to kick Crowe's ass. He was a dick. No fluff, he just was! Finally, there was an "IN YOUR FACE!" moment that was pretty predictable. And that sealed it!
This is one of those corrupt family tries to ruin good family, and turns very dark to do it, series. Then the bad family has a good girl who lands one of the men in the other family.
This was a good all around kind of book even when I hated the characters. I actually thought it was cool LL made you hate Crowe for a while. He wasn't a loveable guy. Amelia was awesome! I wasn't sure about her getting married to an ass, early on, but it was resolved for me! She is a strong woman even though she came off at first like a whimpy chicken.
Explain to me please how I manged to totally escape the Lora Leigh fascination until now? How Ultimate Sins could have been my first Lora Leigh Book? What a serious slap on the head I was needing. Ultimate Sins totally pulled me onto the Lora Leigh Band Wagon. After reading this I was forced, yes forced, to go back and read every single one of her books! Nothing else seemed to matter.
Ultimate Sins is the fourth and final book in Ms. Leigh's Callahan's Series. A series of three cousins reviled and mistreated by an entire town without ever knowing why. Threatened, ignored, insulted and always blamed for any crime that went on inside their small rather archaic town. But it's the story of redemption, love and triumph over an enemy that did his best to destroy them.
Amelia Sorenson is the daughter of a very powerful man, an evil man, a man set on destroying an entire family with some interesting goals. She discovered his perfidy at a young age and began slipping information to Crowe Callahan at 16. Later to become his secret lover. But Crowe disappeared into his job with the marines for years at a time and Amelia had to find a way to survive her father all on her own. That included hiding behind a mask while trying to save the people of the town from her father's cruelty. That included allowing herself to be married to a man who beat her on a regular basis, it included hiding a secret so deep that no one could ever find it. And yes that included allowing herself to become the pawn used to bring her father down. What it never seemed to include was the love she craved.
Crowe Callahan was the oldest of the Callahan cousins. He was taught to protect them from harm, to keep them safe. So when his parents and aunts and uncles were all killed in one car crash, Crowe at 13 stepped up. Of course he never expected to be abandoned by the entire town, except for one crotchety old sort of uncle. He never dreamed of what life would be like, not even in his darkest nightmares. His one ray of light was from Amelia Sorenson, the woman he loved for what seems like forever. Except he never told her. He tried to protect her the only way he could. Leaving Amelia sure that her only value to the Callahan family was her information and at one time her body. But it's all coming to an end and Crowe is discovering that he has a lot to answer for.. and when he finds out Amelia's true secret his life is going to truly implode.
This was a fabulous book IF you read the first three books first. The other three can probably be read as stand alones but Ultimate Sins ties itself too much to the stories from the first three books. Ms. Eden intertwines what is happening now with memories of the past. Connecting everything together in a wonderful manner. I admit my search for Lora Leigh books began with getting my hands on the first three Callahan books. I needed to read them to get the true impact of this story. And what an impact it was!
I can't go too much into the story because there were so very many unveilings in this book that each piece of info would appear as a spoiler.. ok would be a spoiler BUT.. there are some wonderful twists and turns. Some excellently maneuvered plot lines and some people that you pity more than you could even begin to imagine.
This is a series to be savored.

In order to bait a killer and end things once and for all, ex-Marine, Crowe Callahan will claim Amelia and now he will have to protect the woman he can’t seem to life without from the deadliest enemies he has ever known in this thrilling romantic suspense.
This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on the edge of their seat with lots of suspense, drama and romance. The well written scenes and details inspire vivid images that capture the imagination and the well orchestrated suspense and drama draw the reader deep into the story. The strong compelling characters grab the reader’s attention, are easily related to and ensure that the reader reads every last word.
Amelia has loved Crowe forever and she has sacrificed a lot to keep him safe and so has Crowe to keep Amelia safe. There is no denying their attraction to each other and the fiery inferno of passion that consumes them with frequent scorching hot sex , but to have a relationship they not only will have to overcome Amelia’s father, they will have to overcome emotional turmoil that has resulted from years of torment for both of them. Amelia captures the heart with a strength of character that the reader can’t help but to admire and well Crowe may handle things his own way but he has valid reasons.
Spine tingling tension builds as the danger escalates, secrets are revealed, and emotions flare out of control keeping the reader totally caught up in the drama and excitement. I really enjoyed The Callahans’ stories from beginning to end and while they could be read as stand-alone books I highly recommend that they are read in order to get the full impact of the situation and the motivation of the characters. I am also hoping that some of the other characters in their stories will one day have their own stories as well maybe in a Brute Force Securities series….???
A copy was provided by Netgalley for an honest review.
I really wish I would have started keeping a timeline when I started reading. Ultimate Sins is a very complicated finally to a very complicated series that spans 20 some-odd years (I am not quite sure, see timeline suggestion). I do not recommend trying to read AND enjoy Ultimate Sins unless you have read the previous three books. You will be missing huge chunks of information that makes the pieces (literally pieces) of this final contribution to the Callahan’s story enjoyable.
Crowe Callahan is the oldest of the 3 Callahan cousins. What. An. Ass. Years of watching the love of his life be abused, used and raped by nearly every person in her life only to come back and use and abuse get himself was a huge letdown. No is always no and no matter how sexy an alpha male persona can be, that is a very firm line in the sand. Amelia finally, finally stood up for herself at 48%. Secrets are revealed, closure is achieved and there is an "HEA".
Must have read the previous 3 books for this to make any sense otherwise you are reading along and wondering what the hell just happen. I say this having read this first and having to go back and read the first book to realize that these books are layering in details from different angles covering the same time periods. There is a really great novel/series somewhere under all the many layers of inconsistent timelines and disappointing protagonists.
Crowe Callahan is the most Alpha male in the Callahan series. How he kept everything together yet in it's own compartment, I don't know.
Crowe and Amelia were lovers 7 years ago and no one knew. Amelia was gathering information for the Callahans, to prevent her Father from being able to prosecute them for crimes they did not commit.
Amelia was Crowe's weakness, and he was her's.
This book ends the Callahan/Slasher saga. At times it was a little confusing, because of all the unknown backstroke, but it was very satisfying too.
Now Miss Leigh, can we have Rory's story now? It was so nice to see him again.
Wow! This was a hard hitting story. This one grabbed me and took me for an erotic horror story ride. Keep this out of the touch of kids. I missed the first books so it took a bit to catch up. Crowe was military. He lived in a town with a serial killer. His girlfriend was helping him find information. He had to leave town and Amelia was abused for it. This was a hard story to read. It was a lot deeper than I expected but it was a good book. Lora has another good book in her series. There is a lot of sex so be prepared. I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.
‘Ultimate Sins,’ is Crowe Callahan and Amelia’s story... theirs is a story filled with so much hurt, pain, and sacrifice. Having finally discovered the identity of the Slasher, Crowe is determined to end the torment and pain his family has suffered. In a dangerous ploy to draw out the Slasher, Crowe finds that he no longer needs to stay away from the one person he was forced to give up. The one person whom has allowed him to maintain his hold on his humanity and not fade into the shadows, to become the monsters he’s slain.
This was a great series. The Callahans have been through hell since they were children. The death of their parents, the lies and deceit they have had to endure all come to an end with the final book in the series. Crowe, Logan, Rafe, and Anna (Corbin) Callahan are characters you can't help but love.
Hot ,sexy, and action packed! Lora Leigh has matered the art of sexy romance and hot suspense! This book makes me hungry for more ! If an alpha male could get hotter Crowe would be it! If you have not read this series start today!
Been a long time but this story reminded me of when Leigh was Leigh. An alpha asshole, a sort of simpering heroine, overly detailed and lengthy sex scenes...a storyline that doesn't make sense...a kid who talks like a genius grown up...LOVE IT! Easy reading, fun!
I really don't know why people gave bad reviews about the whole " Callahan's Series" but ofcourse everyone has their own opinion .. For me this was the most awaited, most loved erotica I have read .. some readers are complaining about typo mistakes but strangely I didn't found any. Yeah may be there is lack of suspense in the story and yes it could have used a lil' bit more thrill suspense .. Crowe and Amelia was my most favourite in the whole series .. I literally made my eyes to overwork just to read it and Yessss It was worth it .. Amelia could have worked on her stamina (Lol) Sometime she was just over submissive .. and sometime just muchhh stubborn (like in case of three brothers) .. Baby ...Now some "secret bird" has already told me this would be Amelia's itty bitty secret .. Little kimmy was LOve .. " my father would love me more then a child loves ice cream " Crowe's memories ... I believe they made the story more then satisfying .. Wayne sorenson's death ... it was just so sudden .. At first I was confused then I thought "what the. " Overall story was worth reading, worth waiting and I am glad I read it .. It contained the thrill, crime and whole lot of love scenes ..
I jumped into this book at book 4. I was in a reading slump and just wanted to try any book I could for free.
The plot of the book was good and had potential for more, however, the sex scenes on what seemed like every couple pages was a bit much for this style of book. I feel it took away from the story a lot and was the reason it took me a bit longer than I would like to finish the book as I did not want to DNF it but found I was not motivated to pick it up.
I want to try another book by this author to give her writing style another go but not sure where to start. If you have any recommendations, please leave them in the comment.
Now for the conclusion of the Callahan series. It seems like there is some time between the end of the previous book and this one. I didn’t like how they glossed over them finding the treasure and other stuff and advanced to this point. Also the issues with Amelia’s family seem far fetched considering she stayed with Wayne for all her life when he was extremely abusive. The sex scenes were typical Lora Leigh and it seems like the main activity between couples is sex anytime they’re together. Not a whole lot of romance, more sex than anything.
Her 'father' has been trying to get Crowe for years. It has been awhile since I read the previous book and I would recommend rereading as I felt a little disjointed trying to put all the pieces together as I was readings. Crowe comes across as very overbearing and she crumbles at his touch. Lora writes good suspense and intense love scenes but for me Crowe was too much the bully and Amelia's behavior was too naïve at times given her history.

Smashing end to a wonderful romance. Very enjoyable well worth reading.
One of the nicest fantasies I have read. So nice to see baddies beaten and the good guys win. Would make a lovely film script. The strong interesting characters would be a directors dream. Very glad I chose this series to read it has kept me enthralled foe a fortnight. Will definitely recommend to others.
