There are hints of excitement but really this is just more of the same.

Boris is pathetically obsessed with Alice-

This is Alice's expression in every other panel-

Oh and there's a whale...

...for some reason.

I'm a little confused as to whether or not the last half of the volume was a flashback connected to the main plot of this story or not but overall, I really enjoyed this, and it's exciting to see everything coming to a head! (It was also nice to get some kind of further character exploration for Ace's motivation and actions.) Still lukewarm on the BorisxAlice ship, but I don't hate it. Hopefully the last volume doesn't disappoint!

Alice has moved out of Hatter Mansion, Boris remains suspicious of Blood and the mafia, and the faceless start to make their move. With only one volume left, things are starting to come to a head.

But, my favorite part of each of each of these latest volumes continues to be the side stories. While some might be irritated that these stories take up to half of each volume (slowing the progress of the main storyline), I think they add to the development of the characters, and as volume 6's side story seemed to reveal, they may actually tie-in to the main storyline. Regardless, Boris and Alice's developing romance is really cute in these side stories, so I'm glad they were included.

Review for complete series

The Cheshire Cat's spin off in this series sadly has a very weak start, although it does catch itself and turns into a reasonably well thought out series - surprisingly longer than than the main series at that. I think one of the biggest issues is that Boris' personality is quite different from what he is like in the original series and he is arguably one of the more loveable characters. In this spin off, he is pushy and possessive, borderline arrogant and strangely flirtatious. In the original, he seems a lot more innocent and perhaps more oblivious to love, he is clearly affectionate toward Alice but it is never really shown in an obvious romantic way whereas here it is sexual from the start. I also found Boris' nicknames for Alice rather off putting. As the story progresses, Boris luckily becomes a bit more mellow. While he still uses the nicknames for Alice, he shifts back a bit closer to his original personality.

The story also has a strangely slow start, I found the first few volumes quite hard to get through. That might be because the entire focus is on the back and forth between Alice and Boris. Unlike most of the other spin off series, though, this one actually has a plot besides the relationship running in the background, and it's a more than decent one that could have easily been part of the main series. It adds more depth to Alice's character and background, has some good tension and mysteries going on and also lets us get to know some of the other characters better. Ace is handled much better in this instalment than he was in his own spin off and also Peter is a much more compelling character than he was in the original series.

The series as a whole isn't as good as the main series, and I am a little sad that they didn't do Boris justice. But I do think that it is one of the better spin offs and it does add value to the franchise over all. It has a rocky start but if you can get past the first volumes it's a worthwhile read. It's also worth noting that each volume has some bonus stories at the end that also focus on Alice and Boris but follow an entirely different plot line - these are not highlighted well enough can it can easily happen that one continues reading without realising one has left the main story and moved on into the bonus which can really be confusing at times. I always flipped through the book to mark there the bonus story starts before starting to read to avoid just that.

Again, nothing really exciting. The side story is actually what happens before this manga starts. In the game, the ball serves as the beginning of a route, so why are they side stories in the last volumes when it should've been the beginning of the main story???

Hell if I know because apparently going in circles and dancing around the "plot" to extend the volume count is most important.

At least we got some character development and Alice finally decided to not let her insecurities threaten her relationship with Boris.

The very last 2 pages though....wow Quinrose, wow.

30-6-2022: As this is the sixth volume in a series, see my Alice in the Country of Clover: Cheshire Cat Waltz, Vol. 1 review for a more general review.

No matter how many times I re-read this series, I love it a lot. It's a comfort read for me, a quick, easy, fun read. I love the Wonderland Quinrose has created. The different countries (heart, clover, joker etc), the rules of the world, they are all extensive and so completely different from our world. On top of that, their worldview and morals are also nothing like ours, which makes Alice's shock to some of the things all the more relatable.

There are a lot of characters and side characters in this series, though we mostly focus on Boris (of course), the Hatter Family, Peter White and also a faceless gang. This might just be the only series of ~kuni no alice where the faceless have a bigger part in the story and I actually really like that. It's nice to read more about the "regular people" of the world, rather than just the roleholders.

The sidestory of the last volume continues, and gives us both a more in-depth look at Boris and Alice's relationship as well as some idea of how the plot of this series started. It's cleverly tied into everything, but that only becomes clear in this volume, which I really liked.

As someone who has read a lot of the ~no kuni no Alice series, I did not find this series confusing (not even when I first read it), but some people might. Part of it is intentional, as it helps the reader feel just as lost as Alice at times. It serves to show how different and weird this new world is, and I think it works really well, but I can totally see why people find it confusing at times.

Umm... Wow, my copy was real confusing. :/ it took me forever to figure out that this last 3rd of the book was a continuation of this short story thing that had nothing to do with th plot of the Cheshire Cat waltz story line. They really need to divide that better, cause it totally screwed up my reading experience. I enjoy the series as a whole. Utter mindless fluff, a nice change of pace from my usual darker reads. The art is pretty. But it's very confusing if not read 1 right after the other. Thank god I have all seven now. I'm going to do some serious binge reading on the whole series then review properly later. Until then... I can't really say I enjoyed this. I'm sure it will change letter. But now, it sucked.

"The sixth volume has less romance or feels but it offers more chance for the readers to understand the characters especially at the point where Alice admits she is somehow lost and she still couldn’t forget her past. Soon she also admits her fear to Boris. And at this point it’s also clear that Boris has his own fears to deal with especially now that they’re deciding to live together. So… it’s from one level to the next."

I feel like Boris is the best match for Alice, so I liked it despite the obvious flaw of it being a bit confusing. Half the book is one plotline and the other half is an entirely different story. They both have similar plot points (with the biggie being Alice and Boris) but differ in execution and character involvement. Both are interesting and gorgeously drawn, but I would have liked it more if it had been two separate volumes.

Volume 6: Alice plans to leave Hatter mansion. There's a scene where almost everyone gets together. Peter is worried about Alice. Boris helps Alice reduce her worries about herself. The faceless are still planning to use Alice somehow.

The side story has Alice still at the amusement park. It centers on a ball that is going to be held and all role holders are required to attend it.

This volume was probably more about Alice and her lack of confidence what i think everybody has one time in his life. I loved the fact of the extra in the volume and Ace is just beiing so lonely it just asks for consideration but Boris really is a sxeetie with Alice and i really hope the ending to be great because all the other volumes have been great.

I want more!!!!!!

My only complaint is that, like the previous volume, half of this is a side-story. I think I would've been happier if they made the multi-part side-story its own volume and that way the Cheshire Cat Waltz would be in fewer volumes.

Very cute! Loved the aet! Chibis are still my favourites. Got a bit confused with the story change half through. Took me a while to remember what was going on. Still loving the Cheshire Cat the most. So sexy.

Can't wait to read the finale

Alice leaves the Hatter residence with Blood's blessing. Alice gets taken away to the forest by Ace where they ride a whale.
