JOHN MYERS is the most influential man in British commercial radio since Marconi, according to broadcaster Jeremy Vine, who has written the foreword to this hilarious autobiography.During 30 years in the radio business radio, Myers rose from local radio DJ to become boss of one of Britain’s biggest media companies, buying and selling stations in multi-million pound deals. His laugh-out-loud story reveals the side-splitting secrets of some of Britain’s best-known radio stations.Competitions going disastrously wrong, deranged phone-in callers, the hassle of working with big-name presenters, sealing a multi-million pound deal with an arm-wrestling match and setting fire to a studio live on air are just some of his crazy memories. To millions of listeners he was Morgan in the Morning, radio ringmaster of one of the craziest breakfast shows on air, broadcast on Red Rose Radio CFM, Century Radio, Real Radio and Smooth Radio. But when the fader closed on the microphone at the end of his daily morning show, he became John Myers the station boss, who once famously fired the presenter of a religious programme because ‘even God isn’t listening.’As CEO of GMG Radio, he operated dozens of commercial radio stations. He was also a front-runner for the job of boss of BBC Radio 2. Both the Government and the BBC commissioned him to report on the state of national and local radio in Britain.Myers is a man with radio stamped on his very soul.Team, It’s Only Radio! is a brilliant combination of stories about life as a radio DJ and an instruction manual on how to be the boss of a multi-million pound company.

Loved this book. as a confirmed radio geek I was looking forward to reading this and wasn't disappointed. Funny anecdotes, intermingled with a glimpse at what can work in the radio industry and opinions of what can go wrong.

Worth a read if you like business books too as its not all anorak centred.
