Holding on to his marbles with both hands, Spar Battersea is back. Busted? Sure. Broke? Of course . . . but back! Pulling the pieces of his life together after the events of CON JOB, Spar finds himself befriended by a group of fantasy roleplaying gamers, only to find out there’s a cult in town targeting gamers. When friends start dying, Spar is back on the hunt, this time with the help of a double-tough gal who won’t take any of Spar’s shit. The unlikely duo discover the origins of the cult, and end up in a fight for survival. And their odds of success are no better than . . . a DICE ROLL!
Jason S. Ridler is a professional writer and historian. His novel DEATH MATCH, the first Spar Battersea thriller, set in the madcap world of pro wrestling, is available at Amazon! Sex, drugs and headlocks, oh my!
Doc Ridler has also published over forty short stories in such magazines and anthologies as Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Brain Harvest, Not One of Us, Chilling Tales, Tesseracts Thirteen, and more. His popular non-fiction has appeared in Clarkesworld, Dark Scribe, and the Internet Review of Science Fiction. A former punk rock musician and cemetery groundskeeper, Mr. Ridler holds a Ph.D. in War Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada and lives in Northern California with his wife, two dogs, and two parrots.
Another great book from Ridler, the Spar Battersea novels just get better and better. For all those who say the sequel is never as good as the original clearly hasn’t seen Terminator 2 or read Spar's adventures. Spar's third book is amazing; it is raw, honest, and real. Ridler throws a lot of action and hard times at Spar and they both excel. And while I never doubted that Dice Roll was going to be good, I never knew it was going to be one of the best books I've read in a long time. The greatest thing about Ridler is how unadulterated, unfiltered, and untainted by the big publishing biz his writing truly is. It's no holds barred, rough and dirty, and in your face, it doesn’t pander to the masses, it is authentic and genuine writing that we really aren’t getting these days through big publishing companies. A big and special thanks to Jason S. Ridler for keepin' it real!
What a flashback this one was! I was a huge D&D geek 30 years ago, so this was a great read. Again, Spar is in the thick of it with his usual smart mouth responses, but this time we get glimpses of his humanity (that we always knew was there). I'm not gonna lie-I'll be very bummed if this is the last Spar Battersea novel-over the 3 novels I've grown rather attached this anti-hero and hope that this isn't his swan song.
I'm hoping this isn't the finale - Spar becomes more interesting with each book & his circle of friends more diverse. Lots of action, lots of thought... adds up to great fun!
