It's an ordinary, typical story of Farhat Ishtiaq but it's seems fine as it is her first novel.
This is a story of an orphan, beautiful girl named Fariyah, who is unaware of her mother's past. She came to her grandparents house after the death of her parents in a car accident. She realizes that her grandfather haven't cry for her lose of daughter. She came Pakistan form Spain and started to live with them. Her grandfather never talks about zufizhah, her daughter and it seems that her name is forbidden in his house. She mostly remains quiet as she is frighten by her parents dead scene. Her grandma loves her and always told about her mother's extraordinary love and friendly relationship with her grandfather. She Nevers believe her stories because of her grandfather behavior with her.
One day she met a boy, Saad, who is her neighbour and quiet older than her. He became her friend and they understand each other very well. The story movies on with magnificent friendship full of love, sincerity and care of them.
One day her mother's friend, Arjumand came to meet her and told her about her mother's past. After being aware of all the things she came to know about her grandfather strange behavior with her. She tries alot to ask his grandfather's forgiveness for her mother and even pay the price of her mother's mistake.
The story is good at all but the real concept is if someone made a mistake and intend to ask forgiveness to whom he/she hurt and in case he died then her blood generation should ask forgiveness to make their souls live peacefully.

This novel felt like an apology for writing 'Mata e Jaan hai tu'.

I feel betrayed.
I was in love with Saad and Faro's friendship/relationship.
Saad was my most favorite character.
Childhood friendship ✓
Unconditional love ✓
Never ending support ✓
I hated the conflict created by Fari's goody-two-shoes act. How can you do this to your childhood friend, your first love.
I was able to predict the upsetting/sad event that happened near the end. And I was like girl, you've lost all rights!
It was unnecessary.
Spare me a self sacrificing heroine, nobody asked for it.

Farya, daughter of Spanish father and a Pakistani mother, has lost her parents in a car accident in Spain. Her maternal grandfather brought her back with himself to Pakistan but remained cold with her. Her grandmother tries her best to bring her back to normal life but she's still stuck in the moment her parents has died. It was then that she met Saad Munir, her neighbour who kept annoying her but soon they soon became good friends. It was from here that she finally accepted her situation and tried adjusting in Pakistan.
The writing of this book was very descriptive and boring, even the dialogues felt like dragged descriptions. Some places had good strong emotional lines but overall, it was just okay.
SPOILER ALERT
The reason I didn't not like this book was because the main argument was that Farya's mom Zofishan, used to love her dad alot (this was told quite alot of time in the book) and he loved his daughter as well to the point that he decided to not follow the tradition of marrying into family for her unless she agrees. When Zofishan got a proposal from her cousin, her father didn't force her, and she agreed with it, got engaged but later on fell in love with a non muslim Spanish man. It was here that her father got angry with her, not only was she breaking off her engagement but that too for a foreigner that didn't know anything about. In the heat of argument he asks her to choose either him or her lover, and she obviously chooses her lover. He marries her off to him and asks her to never return back, so she did, she never tried to apologise or mend her relationship with him nor did he. Now years later Farya just assumes that she should marry according to her grandfather as way to pay off her mother's debt. He tells her that her distant cousin (son of the same man Zofishan was engaged to) has sent a proposal for her but he asks her to think for herself and he'll stabd wuth her choice. Honestly the whole issue with her mom was just her leaving her father and breaking off her engagement, it was never about marrying the man he chose. I don't know why Farya just thought of paying a debt that was never there? If she felt she needs to do something maybe it was to talk to her grandfather about her love for Saad and if he agreed she could've married him. It doesn't make sense that she thought she needs to specifically marry a man he'll choose to do this. This story has potential but it just strayed off from it's theme.

Ahhh, an emotional one! I wonder why children has to pay their parents' debt... I kind of liked the story, but I still don't understand why she has to marry Hamza, and how her marrying to Hamza and listening to his grandfather will solve everything, like the grandpa forgave her daughter long ago, how does this marriage helps her mother's soul find peace is beyond me!
Obviously, my favourite character was Saad, I understood the heroine's story since beginning, but at the end she felt like a completely different person to me! Anyways, nice read, I got emotional at saad's letter! 🥺

I may not recommend this book to the fullest or cry out how good it is BUT it surely has it's charm. The book doesn't give you what you wish for and instead leaves you with a lesson. Still, it manages to makes you cry and grasp at your heartstrings and toy with it. The story screams typical but the ending is what makes it Farhat ishtiaq's book.

I read it, was worth it. Something different, sometimes we don't get a happy ending:( But that doesn't mean we have to ditch the STORY. This story is an emotional rollercoaster ride for the reader. You will feel anger, love, happiness, pain, hurt, and finally relief at the end.
but an everlasting melancholic effect will always hit your heart.

Fariya:
Her character was so pure and I loved it so much. Her mother made a mistake, which caused cracks in relations between her mother and her grandparents. Fate took a turn and Fariya had to live with her grandparents, though they love and give her too much respect. Oh, she was upright as a Pakistani. But with desi Harkatein and her European features, desi peeps give her a look haha
تم دل سے سوچتی ہو فریا

Saad:
(Ps: Why most of the green flags have the name "Saad", interesting)
In a world full of boys, he is a gentleman. I love their childhood nok jhok.
Truly beautiful How they become friends and how they both grow up having feelings for each other<3

THE STORY TURNS, love was not in their destiny
She has paid off for her mother's mistake by losing her love.
"ماں باپ کی غلطیاں، بیٹیوں پر قرض ہوتی ہیں اور انہیں وہ قرض ہر صورت چکانا ہوتا ہے"
But she hasn't done this as a compromise. This is the beauty of this story, she has done this by choice. Her blood relations and their respect were so important to her that she had to sacrifice her heart.
(I cried for SAAD, his last letter to her>>>)
GOSHHHHH, my heart aches, as I read it in one sit, I literally came across with dozen emotions in few hours

It was a good story but very far away from reality. Because real life is different in each aspect. Some passages make me cry and some made me laugh. I rarely read urdu novels and it was one of those good fictional books which i like to read. I don't know and fail to understand from where we can find these kind if families, boys and girls who exist in such books. Here in reality we make friends and next month quarrel open up and with in a year friendship collapsed but in novels these friendship last for lifetimes and converted to lovr and certainly both get married. In this marriage that love fail to become a marriage because fail to understand between love and friendship. But we girls or boys understand with in few days or months know about other's feelings without listening from them. As apparent by name its about some borrowing so girl try to compensate her maternal grandfather about her mother's mistake and she married to her own cousin. In the end when i was reading 2nd last passage i was totally out of my senses and taking all these so personal and imagining in real life. It was far away from reality and i can't get over it till now.

It's entertaining, enjoyable and a nice read. But I don't agree with the message of self sacrifice that's not even required or asked for. The ending ruins the story!

Saad Munir (u have my heart). Don't come at me but I think Fariyah made the right decision. Saad didn't deserve this but had only a confession from Fari been enough? She did love him but she chose bohat saari muhabbatein and chahatein over that aik muhabbat.
This might be a typical novel for many but I'm just a girl and I like reading so much sometimes I'll pick the crappiest book and still enjoy it just because I love the writer. Not that I'm saying this was a crappy book! I loved it and I've prolly never cried this much while reading in a long time which gives it an extra⭐
I'm just rambling at this point :D

"Wo jo qarz rakhte they" one of the beautiful novels written by Farhat Ishtiaq, and if anyone is reading Farhat Ishtiaq then it means the work will be amazing as always. The friendship and a sweet and loving bond between Fariyah and Saad was amazing since childhood. we can see extraordinary loving relationships in most of her novels which are usually described in beautiful way. In the end I also cried. But yes, it is one of her best works.

Its a must read. Highly recommended !!

I cried so much while reading this book and I loved it even though it's an ordinary story but there's something magical about her writing that she makes ordinary things magical.

I am not gonna lie, I feel bad for Saad but at the same time I was ok with the ending idk maybe because I knew she doesn't end up with him so I never wished for it to happen and I know this could have been avoided easily but Fariha didn't even try. ☹️

Wo Jo Qarz Rakhtay thay by Farhat Ishtiaq
ratings: 4.5 /5
Story of an orphan girl Fariya Abdul Rehman, living a life that is effected by her mother's one mistake, though she made a decsion by herself to choose love of all relations rather then one as her mother did by choosing one love relation and leaving all others. A simple but good excerpt of writing by farhat ishtiaq.

Yessss!!
I totally agree with Freya's choice. Long-term happiness is what we should bear in mind when making important decisions.
Yes, I'm not stone-hearted. I, indeed, have sympathy for Saad but I guess time has the ability to heal our wounds.

I read this book back in the day, and everyone I’ve recommended it to has been moved to tears. It’s such a lovely and closely-knit story of love and how we navigate difficult circumstances. The title is truly fitting.

"I don't know what to say about this novel. I felt numb after reading it. Sometimes, it's just you and your choices that pave the way for a life free of regrets. In such a beautiful way, Farhat wrote and conveyed how graceful it is to let go sometimes, and how the choices of your parents affect your life. The way the ending pages are written brings sadness, especially with the poem Wo Kaghaz Ki Kashti. I felt sad for Saad; at least she should have confessed her feelings, but this is what the writer is trying to convey. 5/5."

Farhat Ishtiaq has an incredible talent for weaving ordinary stories into captivating tales that keep readers completely engrossed.

At times, parents shower their children with love and support in every little thing. However, when it comes to understanding and standing by their children in matters of great significance, they often prioritize societal norms over their children's needs. This can lead to situations where innocent individuals suffer due to their parents' mistakes, perpetuating a cycle of seeking forgiveness.

This book takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, evoking tears that you won't be able to hold back.
