Evangeline Chase is standing at the edge of a crossroad. After choosing to be blissfully ignorant for far too long and willfully ignoring what her life has been lacking, fate is about to intervene. When Alexander Mason, a striking and powerful venture capitalist, is introduced as her new boss, Eva is overwhelmed by an intoxicating cocktail of hormones and lust that leaves her struggling to maintain her composure and more importantly, control of her life.
With an undeniable urge to dominate her new boss, her own lust-filled fantasies lead to a transformation that shakes her to her core. But when Alexander challenges Eva to satisfy her carnal urges, she is forced to choose between her career, her desires, and an unconventional and lustful relationship. Consumed by fear and forced to maintain control at all costs, Eva must decide if having it all is worth risking her career, her world, and possibly, love.
Three Stages of Love: Lust is the first book in a suspenseful new erotic romance series that explores the questions that young women have while embarking on their journey through life and love. Eva’s transformation from prim and proper to fun and dominating proves to be one of the most erotically intriguing personal makeovers around. Her passion for her career and life goals ultimately gives way to uninhibited encounters that leave her intoxicated and yearning for more. Eva’s emotional battle between her heart and mind leave her juggling with a desire to have it all and a profound fear of losing everything.
Written to illustrate the average, driven woman’s point of view, Three Stages of Love: Lust tackles the everyday fears and desires that young women have in an intoxicatingly erotic way. A gripping, palpitation-inducing romance full of underlying themes that are extraordinarily relevant to modern women, this enthralling erotic novel by T. C. Anthony is a must-read for women of all backgrounds.
The character blueprint one usually finds in romantic novels is completely reversed here which I think is one of the reasons why I love the book and why some people might find Eva abrasive and hard to like. While Alex is sweet, loving and romantic, Eva is a commitment-phobe, she's not in it for the long haul, she'll stick around while its still fun but the moment the scent of love and relationship fills the air, her flight reflex kicks in. It's a great strategy to avoid heartbreak but she's met her match in Alex because no matter how hard she tried, Alex managed to melt the ice encasing her heart.
I love THREE STAGES OF LOVE: LUST by T.C. Anthony, it's a story written by a woman for women and it's something I highly recommend romance readers take the time to read. The characters are delightful and Eva in particular is very layered and multi-dimensional. Some women might hate her others might admire her iron clad resolve but I definitely think you'll find a piece or two of yourself in Eva regardless because her story is every woman's story especially those who had, have and are aspiring to have a career. A definite must-read.
Flounced at about 60%, though I skimmed from about 40% on.
I hate to give this book a single star, but it wasn't worthy of two, and I can't in good conscience give anyone the impression that it's even an okay book. I seem to be in the minority with that assessment, but for me, even erotica needs to have a bit more meat than simple PWP. There is no plot. There's an attempt at plot but it falls entirely flat. They meet at a bar, while Eva(ngeline) is wasted and propositions him. They next meet when Alexander is introduced as her temporary boss, while the company she works for changes ownership.
Eva(ngeline) is a stupid, bitchy, control-freak, horrible heroine, and Alexander is a stupid, possessive, whimpy control-freak, horrible hero. She's like Edwistian Grey-Cullen in a skirt and he's like her male counterpart.
They deserve each other. Both are handling themselves like stupid teenager without a care to their jobs or anyone else, and both are a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen.
And I didn't buy their romance, what there was of it. It seemed that both had some uncontrollable animalistic urge to mate whenever they were in the same room, but also didn't want to give up control to the other. No actual feelings, despite intense gazes and rock hard dicks and wetness that just gushes out of her. I'm paraphrasing here, but not by much.
The writing is terrible, almost like a stream of consciousness, as if the author had sat down one day and just dumped a whole bunch of thoughts into a file, without much rhyme or reason, or possibly after watching a porn filmed in an office setting. Very little editing, if any, seems to have been done. Words are missing, punctuation is messy, and the whiplash speed with which the characters change moods is frightening.
Also, if you include sex toys in your dialogue, please at least know what they're called. It's a ball gag, not a gag ball. And don't have the heroine think how huge and thick and long his dick is, and in the next sentence swallow it whole. Unless she's practiced with a coke bottle or is a seasoned porn star, that's unlikely.
By the way, men shouldn't giggle. Ever. Seriously. Especially not if your hero is supposed to be that hot, exciting male specimen we're all supposed to dream of. That was my first WTF moment. It only got worse from there.
Yeah...terrible, all of it. I cannot recommend this to anyone.
I received a free ARC from the author's publicist. A positive review was not promised in return.
Holy sex on a stick!!!!! I loved this from beginning to end!
FINALLY! A book with substance!
From Chapter 1: “Who are you? …… You have got to be the one of the most gorgeous men I have ever met. And I must say I am having trouble restraining myself from ripping that suit off of you and riding you right here in this bar.”
Chapter 1 grabbed my attention (**can you see why?**) and kept it right until the very end. This is a smart and sexy read that is very well-written with substance. The story is raw, passionate, and erotic with the right amount of emotional interest. I can’t explain exactly what had me turning the pages, unable to put it down, but whatever IT is left me wanting more………. Oh, maybe it was the hot mysterious guy!?!?!?! (*sigh*)
Eva is strong, intelligent, sharp witted, and sexual. She’s a force to be reckoned with in the boardroom and is just as strong in the bedroom. Eva fears that a meaningful relationship means losing herself and everything she’s worked for and planned. She thrives on control and order and has tendency to run at the first sign of something more than casual sex.
“Love is uncontrollable, and I was all about control!” – Eva
Alexander is rich, hot, smart, and oh sooooooooooo sexy! Oh, and did I mention he’s her new BOSS????? He has the just the right balance of alpha-male and romance to make him extremely attractive and desirable. He has a strong personality and is just as controlling as Eva, but he’s not afraid to relinquish some of that control at times. He’s very honest and open with his feelings. I totally fell in love with Alexander!!!
“I listen to everything you say, Evangeline; but your desires – well, they get extra special attention." – Alexander
When Alexander comes along and knocks Eva’s well-controlled world right off its axis, she struggles to make sense of want she wants vs. what she feels. Alexander is able to read and understand Eva (which no man ever been able to do before) which throws her for an even bigger loop. He pushes her to acknowledge what she’s feeling, but pulls back when he senses that he’s pushed too far. Not realizing it, Alexander’s pushing is exactly what she needs.
The sex is hot. It blends nicely with the entire story. What I love is that the real story doesn’t take a backseat to the sex. Yes, the sex is integral to the story, but it’s not the main focus.
I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens to Eva and Alexander. I hope Eva doesn’t mess this one up……. Alexander is definitely a keeper! (*fingers crossed*)
I received a arc copy of Three Stages of Love: Lust from NetGalley for a honest review....
and what a review it will be -_-
*Update*
I read the blurb for Three Stages of Love: Lust on NetGalley and just knew that this would be the perfect "first request" I submitted. Here you have two extremely successful people trying to get over their issues as a couple, who also happen to have some pretty steamy scenes along the way. This should have been an easy yet enjoyable read with a minimum given 4 star review. Imagine how devastated I was when it took me more than three days to finish the book, and the utter disappointment and frustration I felt throughout that three day read.
The book actually starts off really funny and with great potential. You have your group of 30-something, New York girlfriends dancing on a bar, taking shots after work. Entertaining first scene? Check. Next our main character Eva, drunkenly falls off said bar and right into the arms of sex on a stick. Funny start? Check. Eva then propositions this completely yummy yet irresistibly sexy man to have sex with her right there at the bar, only to find out a few days later that Mr. Sexy-pants (since she doesn't know his name yet) is here new "acting boss”. See what I mean by a funny and great start? It had everything set up and ready to go for a great read, but sadly everything kind of went a little to mood-swingy from there. You see, Eva is the Webster definition of a commitment-phobe. Here she has this amazing career that she has worked so very hard for, loyal and dependable friends, and a family who is supportive and close. Then enters the final piece of the puzzle, someone she can share her success with, who appreciates the woman she is and can be, Mr. Alexander Mason, aka Mr. Sexy-pants. He is sweet, attentive, not creepy, successful on his own, and willing to get to know a woman and ease her fear of things moving too fast.
Seriously if Santa is by chance reading this post, I know I haven't been that good this year but can you please bring me my own Alexander Mason? I promise to be better next year if you give him to me this year (insert puppy dog face here).
Yes he was that damn amazing; something that Eva completely looked over. She was so afraid of not being in control and of not taking her career to the next level that she drove this patient and beautiful man away from her. I'm not one of those people who believe you have to have a man/woman in your life to be happy, but I do believe that when you have made it to the top of your career it will probably feel better to have that someone special who you can share that accomplishment with. You would think a woman with parents who have been married for 30+ years would appreciate the prospect of having that too one day. Not right this second, but one day. I get the whole insta-love thing freaked her out, but it wasn't like he got down on one knee or anything. People can date for various lengths of time, and who knows three years from now she might be in a better place emotionally to think about that next step. Of course I am a rational, yet hopeless romantic, and Eva was an evil, control-freak BITCH! She's a fictional character but I swear I was suffering from emotional whiplash with all of her crazy personalities. She went from talking about how great, and kind, and wonderful Alexander was to screaming at him for things that were completely out of his control. He deserved so much better than Eva could give and Eva deserved a straight jacket and a padded room to help with her multiples personalities and mood swings. To put it simply, the characters were underdeveloped, the story felt incomplete and jumpy, and even the good sex scenes couldn't save it for me.
I am the poster child for "the hopeless romantic", but I am absolutely happy with how things turned out with Eva and Alexander and honestly don't believe that a second book is necessary.
I have to say I read a few reviews of this book that put me off reading this, but it surprised me I really enjoyed this story.
We have Eva a career girl who can't let romance get in her way, but she enjoys sex big time - her current boyfriend is not delivering though.
On a girls night out to celebrate her birthday she gets hammered and falls into a strangers arms, his tall, dark and handsome, he takes her home and she wakes on her own in her bed wondering what happened.
She recovers from her night and heads into work to find there is a new CEO, his name is Alexander, his tall, dark, and handsome........and his the man who took her home!
She is so attracted to this man that she hates him, but you can't hide or fight attraction/lust this strong. Eva is a bit of a multi personality person, she can be a real bitch, but so nice the next moment..... Alexander is gorgeous, thoughtful, sexy, adventurous - his a dream man, maybe to good for Eva in my eyes.
When they get together its scorching hot passion, wet panty time, there is a part in the book before they get together that she explains to samantha that she had to go the the ladies room to check her period hadn't come early as she was so wet - lol, and that was just from talking to him!!
Eva is struggling with her feelings, she wants success, she can't have everything can she??
What I liked about this book, I liked the characthers even if Eva annoys me with her decisions when his so accommodating. I also liked the sex scenes they were more realistic than many erotic books, where they go for two hours then 5 minutes later his standing to attention again!!! I enjoyed the light bdsm in this book and the experimentation with it was refreshing. Yes Alexander is a sex god but his not a total alpha which is a nice change.
Samantha is Eva's friend and it was a well written friendship, we also have chrissy there other friend who even though is not a major characther has a big impact in the story.
This is a three part series, so don't expect the big HEA...........
TOTALLY HEART WRENCHING AND AMAZING WRAPPED ALL IN ONE!
Okay where to start this review..... Man I am so pissed off at the Evangeline she has some serious issues! Shit and excuse my language but dam I am just so annoyed at her for not trusting and letting go of the best thing that has ever happened to her. It says something when it takes me three days to read a book. It never takes me three days to read a book. I had to put it down because the raw emotions I felt while reading it tore at my heart and gut. I literally had a migraine from crying.
If you have ever been in love then you know how scary it is and how so many emotions show up at once it can be overwhelming. Three Stages Of Love: Lust being the first book takes you on a journey like no other.Eva is this strong independent woman who knows what she wants and how she wants it. She knows she will do whatever it takes to make it in the business she is in and she wants to go all the way to the top. She does not need a family or man nor does she want one that is until the night of her birthday party where she lands in the lap of a gorgeous guy who takes her home and nothing more. She dreams of this guy and what he can do for her but she has no idea who he is. That is until she meets him Monday night and realizes that he is going to be her new boss.
Alexander is everything a woman could want and need. Dam he is everything I would love to have. He is smart, funny, and passionate but he will soon find out that to have Eva he is going to have to work his butt off. He is going to have to chip away at all the ice she has built around her heart. He wants to give her everything and anything and in exchange he will ask for nothing but what she wants to give.
But in the end can Eva give up her control? Will she be able to love this man who loves her? I have to say that this book took me through so many emotions that I yelled at the book, I cried and in the end I was pissed off at Eva because she is so head strong. It is okay to be head strong but you have got to sometimes let things happen and I need book two like ASAP because I have to read more about Eva and Alexander. I also want to see what happens with Marcus and Samantha.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Three Stages of Love: Lust is an interesting book. I found it interesting to read about a woman that could have been me... had I not taken the path that she is fighting so hard against.
The book is fast moving but rough at first. But KEEP READING... it is worth it. By rough I mean that there is some contunity and believability issues.
As a working mother of two, I know how hard it is to try to have it all. I justify making that monthly payment on my college loans, when I really want to just be home with my kids. While I also want to be a raising star at work... I don't think it is possible to have both at the same time.
I loved the end though, even cried. I never cry, by the way. I am glad I kept reading to get to that part... I look forward to the 2nd book.
I know that T.C. Anthony's way of telling this story doesn't allow the reader any view point other than Eva's... so as the reader I have to keep telling myself that all the blanks will be filled as Eva figures them out.
As to erotica... it is hot and interesting... but not sure it is needed. Eva needs to have be forward or the book doesn't work. And I love the interactions and verbal play between Eva and Alexander. I feel like the writer is trying to fit into this genre because of the explotion of 50 Shades, Crossfire, and Blackstone... but I think the writer could have fit in with books like "On Dublin Street" and still achieve what they are going for.
Overall it was well worth the time and look forward to seeing where Eva and Alex go or don't go... it shall be revealed in time.
I was not paid to write this review but was given an advance reader copy.
Perhaps I was ready for something a bit different after so many 20 something college virgin books?! I definitely found it in Lust, because this book (although getting mixed reviews) certainly gripped me.
It's got passion, from the highs that 32 yr old Evangeline goes through with Alexander (36) to the depths of her despair . I could hardly put it down - it's a fast paced read that I think will appeal more to us 'experienced' ladies than say the YA and NA market.
So far it's made me laugh, be furious with Eva, cry and fall for Alexander ...it's well worth reading.
I've already started Attraction it continues at a roaring pace.
I received my copy from T.C. Anthony via Netgalley - thank you so much.
AMAZING! I loved this book. Finally I found a book where the woman wants to be /and actually is/ the Alpha figure - Eva wants to climb to the top, she's strong and doesn't take no for an answer! What more do you need? And Alexander? Do I have to say something? I loved him from the first pages where Eva was so drunk that she openly invited him to her bed! Well, the OMG, What's going on here? in the beginning was scary, because of Eva's thoughts, but after the .. lots of hot moments .. I love this book! That's all I will say, I love it.
This is actually a 4.5 star review. Eva is not easy to love but this book sure is! So much to discuss...Follow the link to my full Scandalicious Book Review:
THREE STAGES OF LOVE: LUST started out with a bang, but the wishy-washy heroine brought the story down to a soft tap with her annoying antics.
Life is precious. Love is something to be cherished and embraced. Evangeline Chase must have missed that memo along the way – she actually might be the most annoying “heroine” I have ever encountered in all the books I have read. Eva, a very driven career woman, started out as a tolerable character – not unlike many female main characters in erotic romance novels, but I expected the self-absorbed, control-freak would soften a bit when her sexy love interest entered the picture, but NO! SHE GOT WORSE!
Here is what worked for me:
The premise of THREE STAGES OF LOVE: LUST was a winner. I’m a sucker for stories that involve 2 dominant lead characters, I really enjoy watching them grow and change as they figure out how to exist in the same space without constantly fighting for dominance…that did not happen in this book.
I loved Eva as the feisty and successful businesswoman and I loved that she wasn’t willing to compromise her goals for love. She never had visions of becoming any man’s “little woman” – caring for a house full of kids, scrubbing toilets and cooking dinner every night for a family.
I adored Alexander – what a treasure of a man! Alexander could have any woman he wanted – handsome, self-made powerful venture capitalist AND a total sweetheart! He put up with way more crap from Eva than I care to recall.
The supporting characters were great! I found that about half way through the book, I was more interested in Marcus and Samantha’s budding relationship than Eva and Alexander’s train wreck of a courtship.
Here is what I had trouble with:
Eva’s character was about as egocentrical as they come and she is the sole reason for a 3 star rating as opposed to a 4 star rating. I kept waiting for the big epiphany that her life is pretty much perfect, but it never came. The following statement, from the book’s blurb is misleading about Eva’s character: "Eva’s transformation from prim and proper to fun and dominating proves to be one of the most erotically intriguing personal makeovers around." This makes me think her character as a whole makes this transformation, not just split personalities for day and night. Yes, she is fairly prim and proper at work, but after hours, when the sun goes down, she is dominating, but I wouldn’t call her fun – her games are played to make herself feel as though she has the upper hand, but she usually just ends up hurting those around her as she uses her “friends” as pawns for her amusement. Honestly, I wanted to slap her right off the page on multiple occasions – she was THAT unlikable!
As I said before, I loved Alexander, but I cringed at his weakness where Eva was concerned, but I suppose I can’t fault him for loving a bitch.
Finally, men DO NOT GIGGLE! They do not! Giddy schoolgirls giggle – excited females giggle. Men chuckle and laugh and they might even snicker, but men DO NOT GIGGLE – please consider curtailing the male “giggling” in the next installment, because it successfully ripped me right out of the story each and every time I read it. Yes, I say curtail it in the next installment as if I am going to read it, right? Well, yes, I am definitely going to read it, because I am a glutton for punishment AND author T.C. Anthony left us with a teensy bit of a cliffhanger that left me with a glimmer of hope that Eva is going to get her shit together and quit with all the tantrums. I hope I am not wrong…

Three Stages of Love: Lust (Three Stages Trilogy) Author: T.C Anthony Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform .
Have you ever read a book so good you just want to smack people in the face with it and yell, “read this!”? If your answer is no, come stand in front of me so I can give you a good wallop with my eReader.
Three Stages of Love: Lust, is a witty, tantalizing read that kept me completely enthralled from the very first chapter with lines like, “Or this is what I tell myself as I self medicate my hangovers the day after and try to recall who and what I did.” Add a female lead so headstrong and self-confident that she’ll tell you how to do the whipping.
Evangeline (Eva) Bella Chase is a 32 year old Director at a Mergers and Acquisitions firm who is fortunate enough to have her trusty side kick, and best friend, Samantha, work as her personal assistant. Eva has everything most common folk would desire, an amazing home in Long Island, a fast-paced, cut-throat career in Manhattan, and a hilariously supportive best friend in Samantha. The only thing that seems to be missing is a man, right…or maybe just a few good orgasms?
Well, after a three month relationship ends with a broken heart (not Eva’s) she questions whether or not she should just avoid dating, but is it ever that easy? Is it possible to forgo an attraction so strong that after just a whiff of Burberry cologne you’re hightailing it to the bathroom to wipe the moisture from your inner thigh? No, I didn’t think so either, but Eva is stubborn to a fault and set on her path. No man will dominate her thoughts, or so she thinks. Cue Alexander Mason, Mr. Sex personified, and Eva’s interim boss. Who also happens to be a man who can sweep her off her feet…literally.
Miss Chase, while smart and sophisticated, sure had a hell of a time dealing with her own internal struggles in this book. Should she stay, should she go? How does this man fit? How will this change her future plans. Is this love, is this lust? Am I a bad person for feeling this way? Yet, not once does Eva ask herself if this man is someone she deserves or will she allow a poem to predict her fate? Something to ponder I think.
The sex in this book is fervent and at times, emotive. For a change, the Mr. isn’t the one in charge and that was beyond refreshing to read. Passionate doesn’t begin to describe the depth of emotion their joining has on one another. Its earth shattering, future questioning, all-encompassing fear and elation all wrapped into one kinky, dominating sexified journey.
Stay tuned ladies and gents because part two of this trilogy titled, Attraction, is on its way. I’m excited to watch these two lovebirds pursue each other in and out of the bedroom.
Evangeline “Eva” Cross is a successful business woman who must have control of every aspect of her life. She doesn’t ever want to give up her life or everything she has worked so hard for, for marriage or a family. She refuses to lose herself; so she never lets a man get too close. She doesn’t want a relationship. She wants to have fun and have hot sex.
Alexander Mason, Eva’s boss, has her in fits; both angry and horny ones. She wants him sexually but hates him at the same time. Alexander wants Evangeline for more than just sex. He knows there is more between them, but can he get her to finally open up her eyes and see that she can have love and a career or will she let fear ruin what is happening between them? Will Eva have to live with regret for the rest of her life, not because she loses her career, but because she pushes away true love with her actions?
Wow this book had some serious hot scenes in it! The sexual chemistry between Eva and Alexander could ignite into flames at any moment. I loved how even when Eva was being a complete cold hearted bitch and smart ass to Alexander, he gave as good as he got. Alexander didn’t take her shit, but he knew when to back off and not push. Eva has some serious hang ups about love and cannot stand to not control how her life plays out. She doesn’t want to end up like her mother; sacrificing her career for a husband and family. She can be selfish but at the same time be there when her friends need her. She wants to continue to push Alexander away, but enjoys their time together. She can be a major bitch, an understatement actually. When a heart breaking moment occurs in Eva’s life, she resorts to her old bitch self and pushes Alexander away. Will Alexander forgive Evangeline, or has she finally succeeded in pushing him away for good and making the biggest mistake in her life by doing so?
Normally I am waiting for the Hero in the book to make things right, but this time I am on the edge of my seat wondering if the Heroine can fix the mistakes she has made. I am interested in seeing how this story is going to play out, as it will be continued in the next book.
I’m having a hard time figuring out how to write this review. While I loved the book and found it to be totally hot and smexy I can’t exactly explain why I loved it. It’s a strange contradiction for me.
Eva is not a likable character. She’s 32 years old and completely lost when it comes to relationships. Her professional life is in order and on track, exactly how she planned it. Her personal life is not much of anything. She doesn’t feel like she can have a career, be married and be a mom. She thinks she has to give one thing up to have the other. As a result, she is a total biotch to the men around her. It makes me wonder why Alexander wanted to get to know her. I wanted to hit her upside the head!
Alexander is rich, powerful and hot as hell! He’s a strong male who’s not afraid to go after what he wants. There were times I was puzzled by him, but I slowly came to realize he wasn’t a caveman alpha male. He’s strong and confident and has no problems relinquishing control and showing his emotions. I totally loved him! One thing that kept bothering me though was the giggling. In my mind giggling is for children and women. Men chuckle, snort, laugh, etc. but not giggle. I think that added to my confusion about him.
Alexander is a romantic and easily reads Eva. He pushes her boundaries but backs off when he senses she’s about to freak out and run. He’s patient and gives her what she needs, even if she doesn’t realize she needs it. He’s also smart enough to know what she wants.
There is not a happy ending with this book. I found myself crying for the many mistakes Eva made. I wanted to hit her!
I can’t wait to read the next one in this series. I have to know what happens with Eva and Alexander. Do they find their HEA? Or will she continue to mess it all up because she’s too stupid to see what’s in front of her?
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I quite liked the characters in this book...they were realistic compared to some books. They had flaws! Some of those flaws were slightly annoying, but understandable. But the fact that they weren't perfect, that they seemed like real people, just made me like the characters more. Even if Eva is slightly annoying on occasion. The sex scenes were also realistic, especially when compared to some erotica books. Alexander is my favourite characters in this book, and I'm sure he could become one of my favourite male characters for many reasons. He was realistic, like a lot of other things and people in this book. He was a sex god without being ALL alpha male. Which I find totally awesome, I mean, don't get me wrong, I like alpha male characters, but sometimes they're too alpha. Alexander wasn't perfect, but he was a great character, he had balance. He wasn't just one thing.
This book had me laughing, it had me crying, and it sometimes made me want to scream in frustration.
Personally I felt that some of the exclamation marks could have been cut out, and I found it odd that how much Alexander "giggled" but none the less, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.
To sum it up; This book is realistic, frustrating, funny in parts, and I quite enjoyed reading it.
I mean, awful. Horrible. The lead female character, Eva (do NOT call her Evangeline) is a spoiled, obnoxious, self-absorbed arrogant conceited brat. She treats everyone around her like garbage while having the most over inflated sense of self imaginable. There is no way anyone in his or her right mind would want to spend time with her voluntarily, so all of the relationships are contrived-seeming. Alexander is a huge pathetic wimp - couldn't stand to read about him by the end because there is no way a normal person would put up with her crap. There was no development to explain either why she was worth her drama or what he saw that made her valuable in the universe.
From the scenes in the bar, the tantrums at work, the bitchy stupid put downs, the cuckolding of her interest by flirting with her alleged BFF's interest, to leaving work early and skipping days ad nauseum (I could go on, but unlike this book, I will spare you the annoyance), Eva is not believable as an accomplished female. The blurb for this book is offensive in that it professes to speak for women in this age group. Ummmm, no. No, thanks.
The typos and misused words (past vs. passed) were annoying but worse was the endless "giggling" by Alexander and the Papa. It's like the author has never met a professional woman, worked in a professional environment, had friends or a boyfriend. This book just misses the mark completely because none of it had authenticity. Thankfully real life is far less annoying.
Personally, the synopsis is a bit overpraise, overselling ... If the book is well written, the heroine Evangeline Chase is unbearable! She makes me want to shake her, leaving her in a corner to finish growing up. In short, a female character from whom I have not found positive points apart from being a spoiled child, an excessive brat, unpleasant and with whom I had the impression of wasting my time.
It is very rare that a character exasperates me so much ... There unfortunately, I almost wanted to stop my reading. This young woman has it all but it's never enough. I was annoyed by her behaviour. She is personnal, not very charming with her friends and she spend her time to nitpick for trinkets.
Sorry for not being able to portray this book in a more objective way but I did not take pleasure in reading it. I force myself to go through it by respect for the author. Not that the story is poorly written or that there are not positive points, especially with Alexander whose kindness is incredible in comparaison to the whims of the woman of his heart, but just Eva is just unbearable!
It seems that she must change over the serie ... This is what I want because she really made me out of my hinges.
This mostly a 2.5-stars review for me. I admit I enjoy a steamy read as much as the next gal, but I need a little more "je ne sais quoi" added to the mix.
Eva was an okay character. A bit too immature and condescending for my taste, but she was ambitious and showed emotions, even if they were erratic at times. She floundered between excited, fearful and lustful and then back again to conflicted. Whiplash. That's the word that comes to mind.
Now Alexander. Yummy Alexander that was as handsome as he was intolerable. He was cocky to the point of being insufferable, but at least he came across as real. I could see his appeal, but I wish I've gotten more from him.
The sex was good. There were instances that they added to the story and other times where I wished they would get it over with and maybe give me some more emotion. I wanted to understand where each was coming from, but it was hard to do so when Eva remained closed off and I couldn't get a read on Alexander's emotions either.
Although I am not emotionally invested in this couple, I do want to read more about this thing that's trying to develop between them. I guess it just a waiting game for now. It could go either way, though. Here's hoping they grow up, face their emotions and make something of it.
I really don't want to write a long review since I wouldn't recommend this book, so I'm just going to state a few reasons why...
I really wanted to like this book. Clearly I'm in the minority here. Most people seemed to adore this book, while I merely thought it was plain bad. While I loved the premise of the story, I did not like the book. Before I start my review I like to summarise the book first but I don't know how to do it with this book because there is no story. Eva is not a likable character. Her character took away my enthusiasm. I felt no connection between the main characters and their romance. It was too rushed. I can't believe the entire book takes place in only 2 weeks and the way Alexander fall in love with her that much within that time.
This book I have mixed emotions about. Again I liked the concept and idea of it. I did feel the connection between Evangeline and Alexander but there were some parts that totally irked me. Some of the dialogue between Eva and her friends felt so unrealistic and over the top and there were some parts were things magically appeared with no reference.
My other beef was it kept saying Alexander giggled throughout the whole book it drove me batty. Men chuckle don't giggle. (personal beef)
The biggest issue I had though was Evangeline. I wanted to punch her in the baby maker for her being so daft and stubborn. She didn't even have any real tragedy to warrant her to be like that. Tragedy didn't hit until present day which actually helped her see the light even thought it was way too late.
This book frustrated me but yet I am still hooked enough to find out what happens with Alexander and Evangeline.
It was better than Okay, but not quite 3 stars. There were a lot of grammatical and spelling errors. I thought that Eva's back and forth as to what she was willing to give or receive was annoying and gave me whiplash.
I don't like how the book ended, because I now want to know if Alexander will forgive her or not :). I'm assuming he will, but the excitement and anxiety you get from the lust or push-pull in these types of books was slightly missing.
The only emotional pull is from the loss of her friend and the guilt you are sure she's experiencing for living and loving her life while her friend dies. I get that.
But like I said, for some reason I want to know what happens next. Not the best written book, but not the worst either.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I'm nothing if not honest, so I'll be totally honest and say that up until the last few chapters of this book, I was ready to write it off and give it barely 3 stars. But I read through and fell into what this book should have been for the majority of the story. The writing seems disjointed at times, and I didn't feel for Alexander what I thought I should. And then the floor fell out from under me when I fell in complete love with everyone and everything, all while my heart was crumbling, wishing I could read straight into the next book in the series.
In the end, it's totally worth reading, and hopefully the disjointedness comes together in the follow up books.
I have to say I was so excited about this book coming out and needless to say I was not disappointed! I have over 60 books since I started with 50 Shades, then the Crossfire series (which were my favorite. But I have to say that Three Stages of Love, Lust have become my favorite. I fell in the love with Eva and Alexander!! I laughed and I cried!!! The story is amazaing and I can't wait for the next 2 books!! You will love this book!! I know I will read it again!!!
This book is amazing! I literally read right through it and proceeded to the next. I am so glad that I waited to start this because I would be fuming if I had to wait to find out what happens next! I don't do cliff hangers....
There are no words to describe this book, but what I can say is that the title suits this book well. Now I am wasting time writing this review when I could be reading Attraction!!!!!
I really enjoyed this book... I mean really enjoyed it! Alexander is just... perfect. A man who will encourage your every sexual fantasy? yes Please! But the "giggling" drove me insane. I'm sorry but men do not giggle, they chuckle. Other than that and the fact that, yes there is a cliffhanger, Three Stages of Love: Lust is a great, sexy book!
I loved the book! Alexander is really amazing, and Eva .... Sometimes I hate her, how can she push Alex away... I can't wait for the next book, I hope he can forgive her, but I expect that she suffer a little bit to achieve the happiness . Anyone knows when is the next release?
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of Three Stages of Love: Lust from NetGalley.com and ended up staying in bed on my day off to read the entire book! You meet Evangeline Chase (Eva) who thinks her career and power is everything. Until she gets caught (literally) by Alexander Mason, a man who exudes power and success, shows her that there is more to life then the power and the control she thinks she has. BLURB Evangeline Chase is standing at the edge of a crossroad. REVIEW: This book had me sprung from the third page. It kept my interest and kept me turning the pages (well, flicking the screen because I was reading on my Kindle Paper-white Watson) to see what happened next. Evangeline is a BIT of a control freak and totally has some emotional baggage and this set of ideals that she can not seem to get way from. She is convinced she can’t have it all. She thinks she can’t have love and a family and a job and power and she REFUSES to sacrifice anything for any deviation in her plan. When Alexander Mason tries to show her differently, she just can not handle it. She freaks out and runs away just to run back. It was a little Bella ala Twilight in some parts but at least Eva TRIES! She is almost her own worst enemy. The sex is hot and no holds barred. You get to see Eva grow in her own way and you want the best for her! I got invested in the story and was SAD (and KINDA mad) when I turned the last page to find out I have to wait till the second book! lol. That is how those tricky authors get you I swear! I am SUPER EXCITED to read the second part of this book and am in anticipation of TC Anthony to get it out already!! Solid read! Steamy and kept me reading more and more! Rating: B+
I received this book from the publisher for an honest review. I don't know what to say, really. I just did not enjoy this book. I hated the dialog. That is the most predominate point I'd like to make.
Everyone seemed to talk in unbroken paragraphs. When the text isn't broken up with descriptors, like 'She sighed and then continued' or 'he paused, letting his words sink in', it all reads too fast, like the character is giving a speech or lecture and failing to pause between sentences. Sometimes, that is the case. Sometimes, people just have a lot to say and get it all out at once... but every conversation can't be done like that. It isn't how (most) people talk, and certainly not an entire collection of people. I can not believe, nor do I find interest in, people rambling on and on, other people listening to the entire lecture, and then giving one, themselves... in just about every conversation. And more than just the length, some of the dialog - internal or external - was just ridiculous sounding. I highlighted some things, but since I don't have my kindle, I can't include them here, at this time. I do remember at one point Eva and Alexander were having a heated discussion, and she said or did something, and he "giggled", but the rest of the context seemed like perhaps he snickered. While a small word choice isn't a reason to define why I disliked the tone of this book; please think of it this way... the words used shape the picture in my head. A man giggling and a man snickering present two very different images. I can't honestly conceive giggling sexy in a man who is trying to be a very dominate alpha. There were so many places where I just had to put the book down because either a scene was absurd or too played out.
I read just about every genre out there, from erotica to YA. I take each book on it's own merit as opposed to letting what tags related to it dictate (I not like/dislike a book more just because it is of one ilk or another, by one writer or another, etc). This book refused, utterly refused to capture my interests, both in character and plot.
My apologies, TC Anthony, I know that writing a book is a very difficult and laborious endeavor. I wish you nothing but the greatest luck in your future works... but this one, it just didn't come close to doing a thing for me.
Three Stages of Love: Lust by TC Anthony is a distinctive novel which turns the tables on a typical romance novel. The heroine, Eva, is a ball-breaker, hard-core, successful business woman, who is capable of balancing her personal life with her professional persona. She fights to maintain control of every aspect of her life. This is a control she is unwilling to sacrifice. Eva doesn’t feel that she can “have it all” with her career and a relationship that is emotionally and physically gratifying. Her character is easy to dislike, but underneath the veneers is a woman dealing with overwhelming choices. She encounters Alexander Mason, who she imagines as her “knight” and she is consumed by lusty fantasies of this man and the idea of real passion that she felt. Her world is flipped on its head, when this handsome, sexy venture capitalist turns out to be her new boss. I really enjoyed the pace of this story and the characters. The characters are multi-faceted. Eva is a tough lady and I found myself teetering between admiring and disliking her. At face value she seems to be indecisive and a commitment-phobe, but that this is her plan to maintain control and to avoid heartbreak. I enjoyed the unique perspective that TC Anthony brought to this erotic romance genre. The sex was scorching hot and I loved that Eva knew exactly what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to ask for it. Alex knew how to push Eva’s buttons. He knew when to give in and he knew when to give it back. Will Eva be regretful for pushing away true love with her actions and behavior? She gains in her career and loses in love. Surprisingly getting what she wants and asks for isn’t what she expects. Three Stages of Love: Lust shows us the mistakes a woman can make and will Alex forgive her or has he been pushed away for good? I am left deliberating how this story is going to play out as it is continued in the next book of the series. Overall I really enjoyed this story and the writing of TC Anthony. This book was a refreshing change for me. I particularly liked the sexy scenes and Alex’s reactions to exploring Eva’s desires. The only fault I could find with this story was Alex’s ‘giggling’. I found it emasculating and out of character. This is definitely a book that I would recommend to anyone looking for a new version of contemporary romance. Keep on reading and give it a try! 4.0 Stars
Um, What.The.Fuck. just happened? Sorry, please excuse my language but Oh.My.God. I have never wanted to strangle a female character quite as much as I want to strangle Evangeline aka Eva. I am truly having a hard time writing this review. Not because it was a bad book no, no it was a very good book but lawd have mercy I want to punch Eva. This is the first installment of Three Stages of Love and I am already jonsing like a crack phene for the next installment. Yes, I may or may not have been screaming once I landed on the last page of the book.
Eva this chic needs a wakeup call! Hello, is anyone home??? Seriously, I understand she is driven, successful, beautiful, and ready to conquer the career world but shit this girl needs a man in her life. Hmm, that was proven when she had horrible sex with her then boyfriend of three months. Eva is one to not get attached for obvious reasons such as her career. She enjoys working and has her best-friend and #1 confidant Samantha as her assistant. However, she wasn’t planning on landing in her bosses lap literally at a bar one night. Hmm, well she didn’t quite know Alexander was her boss but once she found out she had herself set on seducing this hot hunk of man candy.
Oh Alexander I wanted to kiss that man. He is every woman’s fantasy, hot, successful, funny, charming, and a maniac in the sack! Yep, can I order one of him please pronto? However, he finds he has his hands full with Eva. She is not going to go willingly to his bed with a relationship status. She is basically looking for a quick orgasm or ten and is determined to not fall in love with this man. Did I mention he smells of Burberry? Can you say total yumminess? That is what I think about when I think about Alexander. I love how he handles Eva and her dominating personality, chipping away at the hardened part of heart that she has closed off to others.
Oh good lawd the sex in this book is certainly smokin’ hot! It was a breath of fresh air to read a book that presented a dominating female, one who struggles for control as much as her partner. I thought this book was well written and kept me turning the pages. I am anxious to find out what happens next because the ending (I will not spoil it for you) just made me want to scream, cry, and beat Eva! Happy Reading! xoxo
