This is a short story of approx. 5000 words. The full length novel version can be found here: My First, My Last
Widowed two years ago, Rose is ready for a new relationship. She’s considered following her heart to look for the man she made love to for the first time but her ex’s frivolous lifestyle has kept her from finding Jack in Venice. When she opened her front door, he was the last person she expected. Now, as he stands on her doorstep Rose needs to decide whether to give the man who took her virginity a chance at a life together. While her mind tells her to be careful, her body longs to be taken by him once again. There’s nothing more that Rose wants than for her first lover to be her last.
USA Today Bestselling Author Lacey Silks writes seat-gripping romantic suspense with heat and spice. She’s married to most of her characters and tortures her husband with quirky book roles. Lacey’s two kids and her dog Kygo fill her time with homework questions and sweet licks all over her face (the dog not the kids).
When she’s not writing seat-gripping and heart-throbbing stories, Lacey enjoys camping and skiing with her family. She’s an early bird by nature and drinks coffee instead of water, because that’s how her busy billionaire heroes do it.
Lacey’s flawed and relatable characters fill the pages with laughter, snark and tears. She judges men by the size of their feet, loves sexy lingerie, and can’t live without her “boost juice”: coffee.
A nice story about reunited love. Twenty years ago, Rose and Jack had a long-distance romance. Every ten months, she'd be in Venice visiting her aunt, and they'd pick up where they left off. Between visits, they wrote frequently to each other. When she was sixteen, he took the virginity she offered to him.
Twenty years later, Rose's husband has passed, and Jack shows up because he doesn't want to let another opportunity to be together pass by. He has to at least try, because he's loved her for twenty years, just as she's loved him. So they get reacquainted with each other in a steamy way.
Very sweet that their love survived marriages to others and they were able to meet up again. Kudos to Jack for making the effort.
This was a short quick read. This was a sweet love story Jake and Rose spent summers together when Rose comes to her Aunt's house in Venice Jake lives there. They became each others first and remind friends 20 years later. After his divorce and when her husband dies Jake shows up and these two pick up where they left off. This was a good read that I wished was longer. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.
I so wish this had been longer. It was incredibly sweet and I wanted more of it. I am such a sucker for reunited first loves and this one really hit all of my romantic buttons.
Rose has been in love with Jack since she was a teen. It's now 20 years later, she's a widow, and he's shown up on her doorstep wanting to be with her again. That's essentially the whole plot.
My only complaint about it is that it was over way too quick (the story--not the reunion). I wanted more development of this relationship between Rose and Jack as adults. But, I loved the story that I got even though I'm greedy and wanted more. ;)
This is a story about rekindling young love. Rose is widowed and Jake is divorced. One night Jake shows up at Rose's home and although he's an unexpected ghost from her past, he's one that she loved even more than her deceased husband.
Issues: When Jake shows physical interest in Rose, she doesn't hesitate to sleep with him even though she has a boyfriend. She doesn't detach from that relationship before giving up the goodies to Jake. Rose tells Jake that she doesn't love her boyfriend and Jake is content with that answer.
Mmmm...okay. I'm all for foolery and wicked shenanigans but the tone of this story was very serious and Rose just came off as weak, wishy-washy, and bland.
This was a short read packed with old memories and the writing style was alright. It ends very abruptly and was an okay read.
1 out of 5 stars One of the biggest let downs ever.
How can an author write erotica but be afraid of using certain words/ language? The words that are appropriate for writing good erotica. The sexual interaction between Rose and Jake felt robotic and forced. For them to have already had sex when they were kids then meet back up 20 years later and still seem inexperienced, well that's just sad. Everything about this book was just sad.
Thank god this was a short read. There's no way I'd recommend this to anyone.
Rose and Jake met when they were teens and she was visiting her Aunt for the summer and they fell in love. She asked him to be her first but because they lived half way across the world from one another, college, other partners and losses.
Jake comes to visit twenty years later and the spark is still as strong as when they were young and they decided to by My Only One when he moves from his home so he will not loose her again.
The uncertainty of meeting again, how they both wanted the same thing and felt the same way and the sweet sexy reunion and future commitment made it a good short story.

REVIEW My Firs, My Last is a fun and entertaining read. I gave this book a 5-star. It is a must read for all romance lovers. The story line is quite interesting. And it's a well written book. There are a lot of heart-warming scenes, some frustrating ones too but they made it all the more fun to read. Adrian and Mia fell in love when they were teens but their stars didn't align and they got separated. Now after twenty years they have another chance at love. Although a lot has changed. They are more grown up and hardships of life has changed them in many ways, not all good. Mia is divorced and mother of two children. Adrian has a son, and he never married. Both of them are willing to take one step at a time and see where there relationship goes this time. Will they find their happily ever after or will the world conspire against them once again??? This book will leave you breathless and wanting more. Its full of romance, love, heartbreak and some not-so-likeable moments in the lives of these characters (which will soon become your favourite ;)). I don't usually like emotional kind of books but Lacey Silks has made this complicated story worth reading.

My First, My Last is a sweet story about reunited love, second chance love.
20 years ago Mia and Adrian had a beautiful love. Young love. First Love. But that love didn't go the distance, and they lost contact.
Mia is now a divorced mum of 2, struggling to deal with her husband's infidelity and raising two young ones. But in her heart, there has only ever really been one man, Adrian.
When Adrian comes back into her life, her head and her heart are thrown into turmoil. I really liked Adrian. Through all the years, all the distance, all their separation, Mia has always been the "one that got away" and he has come back to remedy this situation.
I loved how Mia and Adrian fell straight back into that easy relationship together, even though so much water has passed under the bridge. They are obviously soul mates, and their hearts know that they should be together.
But boy, did Adrian have the patience of a saint! I know that Mia was struggling with what has happened in the past couple of years, but geees Louise!! I am not sure how he didn't give up and just walk away!
It frustrated me that Mia always seemed to put her cheating douche of an ex-husband Dan before anyone else. Gah!! He lost that privilege when he couldn't keep it in his pants in my opinion. A big chunk of the story revolved around Mia's indecisiveness and confused emotions, and I just wanted to slap her to tell her to wake up to herself!
But when they get to some sexy times - phew off the charts hot! Everything but the two of them is forgotten and all is right in the world.
So does Mia get her act together? Do Mia and Adrian ride off into the sunset and get their HEA?
Uh uh, for that you are going to have to read this for yourself.
There were some great secondary characters in this book. Loved Mia's kids, they are so young but so wise, and whereas they could have been whiney kids after watching their parents separate, they seemed quite balanced and sensible.
Then there is the ones I couldn't stand. Don't get me started on Dan and the way he acts all concerned about his family and his "wife" after the way he treated them. And then there is Amanda.
If you are after a sweet modern romance, then give My First, My Last a go.

My Thoughts
Oh how i LOVE Lacey Silks and all that she writes. What we have here is a really nice story about soul-mates and how love can last the test of time - twenty years to be exact. You have no idea how much i wish that were my story!
Meeting as teens when Mia went to visit her aunt in Europe for the summer, a romance began, changing both Mia and Adrain forever. Distance and young fears pulled them apart, and what happened in those years in between shaped them for what was to be in the future.
Mia chose to try to move on, getting married to someone that was the complete opposite of Adrian, and that blew up in her face. While she got 2 great children from it, her husband cheated on her, and compound that with a drinking problem - well that's a recipe for disaster.
For Adrian, he was ruined forever by Mia, not wanting to give up on her, but somehow finding him in a situation that made him do it. He got his girlfriend pregnant, in that grey area period of time when he and Mia had started to part ways, and that meant that they were done for ever - at least that's what they thought. The girl that he had a son with though, she wasn't ideal either - aside from not being Mia, she had her own drinking issues, and well, that was too much for him to live with
So we get to current day, where Adrian's put it all out there, moving to Canada to try to win Mia over, and the question that we follow through this story is will they survive and thrive. While we know that they have a passion that transcends everything, Mia's fear of committing to someone and failing seems to be a downfall for Adrian - while not a dealbreaker - something that's pretty close. It takes a trip to the hospital, a horrible car accident that cannot be returned from and an attempt to cut the cord with an unhealthy ex that shapes our story.
All the while though, we get the writing that we've come to expect from our great author. It's romantic and there's a great back story, but at the same time we get heat, and we get passion and it's really really hot. I think that there were moments when i felt like i needed to take a cold shower myself, and that's something that i feel has been lacking in some of my latest reads. So....job well done and i hope that you guys pick it up and enjoy.
Okay, the first thing I am going to say is, why does this author have 2 different books with the same title?? Its it meant to be that or is it some kind of mishap on Goodreads? Because honestly, it was a bit confusing trying to find this on the goodreads link. And why would you want 2 different books with the same title ?? ~Just sayin’, now onto the review This is a good second chance book. “you wanted me to be your first, I want you to be my last” I have to admit, Adrian is sexy as all hell. I want one of him of my very own. This is actually a pretty good book. It’s a good story and both Adrian and Mia are decent characters and THANK GOODNESS Mia isn’t a whiner. She has a decent best friend, an annoying Ex husband, and some great kids….not to mention the she devil from hell that we all ove to hate, who I’d like to shove sharp objects into her eyes, ..and of course the Hottie European sex god from her past that returns for their second chance. The one thing I didn’t really like is that it took FOREVER for them to finally have sex … and I do mean forever … it was starting to lose me and then finally, FINALLY … a sex scene … the sex scenes were then hot, hot, hot... but it really took way too long. Adrian is beyond sexy, tall dark and handsome, ….and sweet and kind and protective, almost a little stalkerish, but not quite. Oh and that eyebrow piercing … SEXY AS HELL !!!! Im a sucker for a good piercing on a guy !! Mia is tiny and cute and can be a little feisty if she needs too be but not at all in the annoying, im going to run until the epilogue sorta way. Her kids are cute and silly and made me smile. Her ex is even ok-ish for a d***head ex ….. They are a couple im really glad I got to read about BUT PLEASE GIVE ME MORE SEX …. For me, if the sex wasn’t dragged out until near the end, I’d have given it a 5 star rating …Ermmmm I mean … yeah great job (wow pervy reviewer much?) The grammar and spelling are good and the story is believable. This was my first Lacey Silks book and I’d absolutely read her again … and im absolutely adding her books to my reading list on goodreads. I would absolutely recommend this book.
Fate has kept them apart for twenty years. Their roads hadn’t crossed and the stars didn’t align until now…
Matured, more experienced, pierced, tattooed and hot as hell, Adrian steps back into Mia’s life to reclaim his first love.And the moment she sees him she can’t even remember her own name.
Adrian Reed had always remained in Mia’s heart. After all, he was her first boyfriend and the man she’d lost her virginity to, but that was twenty years ago. His sudden appearance at a bar, on a girls night out, has Mia acting like the fifteen year old girl she was when they parted.
But life now is not as simple as it was twenty years ago. With two kids, a hopeful ex-husband and new insecurities, Mia finds opening up to a new relationship more challenging.
Mia is settled in her life. She has two amazing kids that she loves with all of her heart but on a personal front she realizes relationships and marriage just aren't for her. She partially blames herself for her failed marriage and will not go thru the heartache again. Mia has no desire to date or to get involved with any other men in the future. That is until Adrian walks back into her life.
For over 20 years Adrian has known what he wants, and that is Mia. His first love. He has never gotten over her and is determined to win her back. It doesn't matter how long it takes or what he has to do. Mia is his destiny and she will be his again. When Adrian walks in that bar sparks immediately start to fly.
The connection between Adrian and Mia is so strong you can feel the emotional pull from the beginning of the story. The sexual chemistry between these two is off of the charts hot. It is the kind of story that you will laugh, cry, and hope everything turns out as it should in the end. The author does a great job at catching your attention and keeping you on pins and needles until the end. It is a truly beautiful love story and I would definitely recommend this book.
“We’ll see the same stars, the same sun and sky, but we’ll still be so far apart.”
Can you imagine what life would be like if 20 years later, your first love suddenly resurfaces from halfway around the world… That is precisely what happens to Mia. Mia is recently divorced from her lying/cheating ex, raising her two children and working doing what she loves, teaching Pilates. On a night out with friends, she thinks her eyes are deceiving her, when suddenly, there is his Adrian, her first love.
“You’re a woman, T. A beautiful and sexy woman with needs I want to satisfy over and over again.”
For 20 years, Adrian could not get Mia out of his mind. She was his first true love. Hearing that Mia was once again single, he formulates a plan to fly across the ocean and start a new life, in a new city, in hopes of making Mia his again.
“I believe destiny tore us apart for a reason. This way I could come back to you and appreciate you that much more.”
~~~~~~~~~
This was a very different book than most of the books out there lately. It has more mature, very well developed characters, and a true love story that pulled at my heart strings. I almost felt like Mia could be someone I know. The whole storyline was realistic and I loved how the whole story played out.
There were parts where I was gripping my kindle so hard that I thought I might break it, times when I felt the sexual frustration/tension between Mia and Adrian. At one point I shed a tear thinking something had happened that I wasn’t wanting to happen.
I would highly recommend picking up this book, this is the first book I have read by Lacey Silks, but I am positive it will not be the last.
If you believe in first love, then this is one you want to pick up. My First, My Last is a book of young, first love that was never meant to be the first time around, but when you get a second chance, you always need to go for it.
Adrian and Mia were young and in love. They were each other’s ‘firsts’ but fate came in and pulled them apart. Twenty years later, Mia is divorced with two kids. One night going out with friends is all it takes for her to hear ‘his’ voice again. She never thought that day would ever happen again and believe me, she is speechless!!
Adrian never married, seeming that no one compared to his “Thumbelina” as he called Mia. He knew if he ever had the chance, he would find her and that’s what he did. Mia was shocked to find her first love was not the little boy she once knew. He was now a big handsome pierced businessman who would stop at nothing to get what he wants.
“I’m never letting you go. You’re my everything.” – Adrian
With the cheating ex-husband being added along in the mix and him trying to stay in Mia’s life, he soon finds out that as much as he does or thinks he loves Mia, he has to let her go. I really enjoyed seeing the children brought into the story because so many times when children are involved, they are pushed aside and only mentioned a few times, so that is rare with this book.
“You wanted me to be your first, and I want to be your last.” – Adrian
I liked seeing how scared Mia was to attempt a future with Adrian for fear of him leaving but yet at the same time, when fate steps in again, she knows she wants him more than she ever thought possible. It’s funny how things can shake you up and make you realize what you’ve always wanted is something you can’t live without. Adrian and Mia are a one of a kind couple that makes you believe in true love and how everyone deserves their happy ending.
Mia is a divorced mother of two children. She still has close ties with her husband, as they share the responsibilities with their children. One day Mia’s teenage love returns into her life and causes her to question on whether to move on with her life or stay where she is at, so she doesn’t rock the boat with her ex-husband.
Adrian was amazingly hot and the perfect man. He really knows how to love a woman. The moment where Mia went to Adrian’s house and he was baking apple pie was intense. I wasn’t sure if they were actually going to finally go at it. Their chemistry was perfect and the sex scenes were steamy. I wasn’t sure if Mia was going to choose Adrian or stick with the comfortable life with her ex-husband and children. It was emotional and raw and left you with a very torn heart. I cried and laughed throughout the entire book. I couldn’t put the book down as I wanted to know if Mia would give her whole heart to Adrian.
I was annoyed with Mia and her relationship with Dan (her ex-husband). She allowed him to hurt her horribly, but she still put him first. I had to put the book down several times to take a breath and not get so angry with Mia.
I do wish there were some type of drama/suspense within the book. It seemed to circle around and around Mia’s emotions and I wish there was something else to take a break from her insanity.
I would recommend this book to anyone needing a modern true love story. However, this is an 18+ book since the sex scenes are intense and graphic. Some foul language is also throughout the book.
I don’t believe there is another book following, as it didn’t appear that there were any cliffhangers. The book ended with you knowing exactly what is happening.
I have to admit, I don't really understand the ebook generation. The sort of stories I was reading on Literotica a few years back are now being published (self, or otherwise) as complete books, albeit electronic ones. On the plus side, it's nice to get tasters from new authors and explore different things to what I'd usually read. On the minus side, I think of an adult fiction book as being something at least a couple hundred pages long (anything up to a thousand, really); either a novel or a collection of short stories. And I am not convinced that a short story counts as a "book".
Of course, that's neither here nor there, so onto the story.
Rose and Jake fell in love as teenagers, and he was her first lover. (Not sure if she was his.) But they lived on different continents, and they knew they had to move forward with their lives and meet new people, so they split up.
Twenty years later, she's a widow, he's divorced, and he shows up at her door telling her he wants her back.
It's quite a sweet story, and the sex is nicely written, but something about it felt a little flat to me. We never really learn much about either character, aside from the basics; never find out their passions or beliefs or what makes them tick. I didn't feel like they were fully formed people, and without that depth of character I find it hard to care whether they get their happy ending or not.
That said, I do like the idea of the story. I'm just not sure that it worked for such a short piece. 2.5 - 3 stars.
I read story on my Kindle App. The formatting, typesetting, and overall composition was excellent. The author Lacey Silks does a wonderful job in this short story with just two characters. The plot was simple, the plot points was set properly. This short story was written with all the elements necessary to be called a romance story.
The story was told by the main character, Rose, who became widowed two years earlier, and at this point in time she was confronted by the man she gave her virginity to as a teenager.
Rose tells the story from the present, to the past, back to the present. Both character's true feelings are revealed, and the author throw in an erotic moment shared by the couple.
I seen that other reviews on this short story are mixed. Many readers found it to be too short. Granted it has the potential to be a full length novel, but it's a short story and the author did a great job in bringing all the necessary elements together to produce a complete thought.
I gave this S.S. 4 stars. If you like erotic-romance stories, this is a nice one. It reads fast, smooth, and a little tingly.
A lot can happen in 20 years, but there are some things that never change. Mia and Adrian met 20 years ago and had a romance. They were young and naïve and were separated due to some circumstances. Now, they have found each other again and are not the same people they were so long ago. Mia is now divorced and a mother of two young kids. Adrian is also a father, but has never been married. Once they see each other again, one night at a bar, they realize that the feelings of their youth are still present. They feel that spark that attracted them back then. Adrian is ready to sweep Mia off her feet, but she is a little hesitant due to her children and the ex-husband who is still hanging around. Their story is one of the powers of love and the second chances that sometimes present themselves. The characters are very well developed and their interactions are not choppy or ridiculous. It is a very sweet romance, although I got frustrated several times because Mia still seemed to care too much about her ex’s feelings, even after everything he put her through. The story is full of heartbreak and love, but will leave you feeling satisfied with the outcome.
This book was slow. I had trouble staying interested with the book, but I had to finish because I had to know what happened.
Mia is just moving through life. She still has her ex husband in her life. Almost as if they didn't divorce. She feels responsible when it wasn't anything she did. She needs to learn to let go of the guilt and try to move on. She didn't want anyone else until her first love walked back into her life. But she was having trouble with letting him in. She doesn't know how her kids will take her having a boyfriend and how her ex will handle her dating. Can she open her heart again? Or is she destined to be alone?
Adrian had never been able to give his heart to another female. He never stopped loving Mia. His biggest regret was letting Mia go. But he can't regret it too much because then he wouldn't have his son. He is trying everything to gain Mia's trust and make her have faith in men again. Can he get her to open up? Or is it a lost cause?
This book had a great story line and I loved the characters. It was just lacking something. I needed the 'IT' factor. I recommend reading this book and checking it out.
This novella puts the question of does absence make the heart grow fonder to the test. Does time enhance or distort feelings and can you ever turn back time are explored and revealed. Rose annually spent two summer months visiting her aunt in the romantic city of Venice. Her she met her first love and looked forward to the reunions every summer. Jake never really left her as she thought and dreamed of him for the remaining ten months of the year. One year she decided that Jake would and should be the one to claim her virginity and never regretted her decision. Their two lives eventually took different courses and she ended up marrying another. Not unhappy with her husband and her life, the thoughts of her first never really left her. Twenty years on, as a recent widow, she makes a pilgrimage back to Venice in the hope of rekindling the past. Are her old thoughts, dreams and desires reciprocated by Jake or has too much water flowed under the bridge? This literary snack sadly wasn’t expanded into a gourmet meal (as there could have been enough meat for a banquet) leaving the reader starving for more. Nevertheless this tidbit is well worth the time investment in reading it.
Short story is correct, according to my NOOK 42 pages...and it just wasn't that interesting. There just wasn't much to it. I'm sorry, but I don't even know what to say. It makes me question if short stories are even worth reading. I'm not trying to be mean, but I do wonder. In my humble opinion, 42 pages just isn't enough time to establish that "pull" from an author to a reader.
A girl who pines over her first lover for 20 yrs... Does she give into her lust for him? The best line was,
"I will do anything for you, Rose. You wanted me to be your first. I want you to be my last."
In my opinion Lacey, you can give us more. I can see the potential in this story...but it's like you cut the legs out from underneath it. It's not that I didn't like it...it's that the frustration is huge, when an avid reader can plainly see the avenues that could've taken a book like this one, and turned it into a full blown fabulous story...if only the author had taken that chance. Traveled down that avenue. Give us more...
20 years ago Mia and Adrian fell in love. Since then they have both had children, Mia has gotten married and divorced and now Adrian has moved across the Atlantic to find her, his first true love.
The only problem is, Mia has given up on love. Her ex-husband cheated on her, he drank too much, but now he is fighting to win her back. Adrian is all grown up and wants the girl he has spent the last 20 years dreaming about. He is going to fight for Mia and win.
Both men want the same woman, but who does Mia want? Who will make her the most happy?
Adrian makes you want to believe in love! He is so romantic and loves Mia so much it just comes through the pages and into your soul.
This story was pleasantly happy with very little drama or angst, which is just what you need sometimes. I would recommend it without hesitation. *A complimentary copy was given in exchange for an honest review*
When I started this one I really did contemplate not finishing it. It was just a wee bit too corny for me.
After twenty years two highschool lovers get back together. That's a long freaking time to wait to get your act together... and no real justification was given.
Mia was a divorcee with two kids that she was dedicating her life to. Her ex husband was a cheater and still very much on the scene and Adrian was her first love from twenty years previous that she had never gotten over.
Mia was annoying. She did a whole lot of thinking with her "groin" throughout the entire book and even considered her ex in those thoughts even once Adrian was on the scene which made her seem a little fickle to me.
She also spent a lot of time making excuses for why she could not be with Adrian.
Adrian was patient, kind, good looking, rich, successful etc etc etc and was willing to sacrifice everything for a love that he waited twenty years to pursue.
A little out there for me. Occasionally hot. Very long and detailed for a predictable romance. Two stars.
Holy Crap!! That was intense. It's gripping, funny, hot, loving, heart breaking, and anger inducing among many other things. Every turn of the page brought something new. It was a refreshing read. Adrian is that heart pounding, panty wetting, wild, gods blessing hawt kinda man every woman dreams about. He is tender, thoughtful, and spontaneous. Mia is a sweetheart always thinking of others before herself especially her kids and that douche of an ex husband of hers. She is sexy, sassy, funny, a bit shy. People who say you can't ever have your first love again need to read this book! Adrian let Mia walk put of his life 20 years before now he is back ready to do whatever he can to get her back no matter what. He was Mia's first and she never forgot or let go of the feelings he made her feel. It's cute how shy she is around him when he gets suggestive, but in her head she is a healthy normal woman around a hot man. It was funny how Adrian slyly coaxed that healthy woman out of her. It was like whoa who is this person and where did Mia go? Lol! It was so great.
I read this book in 1 day !! I couldn't put it down because Adrian's hotness wouldn't let me .....
This book has a lot of grammatical errors for such a short story. I also had to wonder how a “Yelp” is anything even close to the sound a person would make while being pleasured. It would not be in my list of sexy sounds for a serious encounter. I also know a couple men who would be interested to know that if they had enough sexual experience their “muscle” would show it….Huh?
I couldn’t relate to, nor did I particularly like the characters. In the first couple pages I felt like I was getting a little bit of proverbial whiplash. One sentence she knew the moment she opened the door she wasn’t going to let him leave but in the next she wasn’t sure if he was worth breaking up with her current boyfriend whom she admits to herself is self-centered and the relationship was sub-par. He was an admitted man-whore who jumped from one bed to another… And not so great boyfriend or not, love her ex or not, she still had sex with a man that wasn’t her boyfriend.
