Millie Diamond is your typical high school senior. She has great parents, a younger brother, and two best friends that keep her on her toes. Her future is planned out, thanks to her police officer dad, who strictly informed her that she would be attending college. The only thing that would make her life better is a real boyfriend.
Cash Davis is definitely not that guy. A drug deal gone bad in South Boston left his mother no choice but to move him to Tennessee. Cash has plans of his own, but meeting a girl named Millie whose dad arrests him his first week in town changes everything.
Can Millie change Cash's mind about his future and his knack for partaking in criminal activity? Will she still want to after secrets from his past are revealed? Find out as these two very different young adults embark on the age old question: Does true love really conquer all?
Carrie Thomas is the author of young adult and new adult romances. When she’s not writing or reading, you can find her traveling or going to concerts with friends. Museums, theater, and music are at the top of her list when traveling to a new place. Writing romance is her favorite genre to write because everyone can relate to it. She lives in the South with her husband, two sons, and a dog named Oscar De La Hoya Meyer Weiner. She’s a firm believer that book lovers should stick together.
Millie Diamond (who's name sounds like an old time stage star) is a young, naive, and innocent girl. She plays basketball for her high school and is a somewhat popular girl with a close knit group of friends.
Her dad is a cop in town and one night making a crazy teenage decision the handsome Cash Davis comes to her rescue only to be arrested by her dad.
Cash Davis is a boy who made a series of bad decisions in his life. To run from a major mistake he moves him and his alcoholic mother to a new state. Against better judgement he meets and falls in love with Millie.
This book takes you on the path of teenage angst and falling in love. A little twist toward the end and gets wrapped up for us in the epilogue.
It's been a while since I was a teenager. I struggled to connect with the characters on an emotional level.
I have to say, the way Millie acted at times made this difficult. I mean, I get she is fifteen and they're dramatic, but a thirty minute pout fest because Cash came into the house and didn't say 'hi' was a bit much. I dug into the recesses of my teenage self and couldn't remember behaving this way.
All in all, however, this is a decent read. If you love YA and teenage angst - pick it up!
I'm sad for this book. It could and should have been so much better. There's a good story here, and a ton of potential, but bad, bad writing. I'm sorry. I hate to say that. I know authors put time and hard work into the books they write, but I think maybe they also want some real feedback. And I also want to warn anyone else who is curious about buying this book. Where to start... Okay, the writing style is just off. It's written in first person, and the past/present tense of words is constantly going back and forth. There are a few missing words here and there also. The writing generally feels very juvenile, like a middle school girl is writing it. And I have to be honest here, I actually skipped the entire middle of the book. I just couldn't anymore, ya know? I liked the premise of the story enough to read the sample and buy the book, but it just dragged... and dragged. And I thought that I just had to see how the story played out. So I skipped from about the 35% mark of the book to the 87% mark of the book... And didn't feel like I missed much. I mean, I'm sure I did, but I was pretty able to figure out the 2 big things I missed, and successfully finish the book feeling like I did myself a huge favor. That's not how I want to read a book. I wish the author would rethink the writing style (first person) and start over again, because like I said in the beginning, there is so much potential here. There is a good and well thought out story, and I liked the characters, so the 2 stars are for that. But the story needs a do-over.
Hooked is an average teenage love story that, although not very unique, did have me hooked despite its flaws (and I found a lot of those). It was honestly unputdownable. I felt Hooked was a quick and fun read with just enough angst.
The main characters Millie and Cash were likeable enough, but I wouldn't say they were memorable. (I must ask, though... is Cash a common name in America? It's a very unusual one!) Millie is a very sweet girl who is a bit of a goody-two-shoes. She doesn't like to get in trouble because of her dad. However, I was a bit annoyed with her to start with - she's one of those girls who look in the mirror and describes themselves as being plain when in fact everyone thinks she's gorgeous. I also found that she repeats herself a lot and explains the same thing multiple times! The reason behind her brother's nickname for her, for instance.
Cash is an odd one, for me. A lot of the time I really liked him, but then again, a lot of the time he was a major asshole. He is always on edge and becomes very protective of Millie very quickly. To the extent where he tries to beat up any guy who so much as talks to Millie the wrong way. I also felt he was quite controlling in a way too.
Hooked is told from Millie's point of view and, to be honest, I found the writing quite immature, even disjointed at times. I also found the story very predictable. I just knew what would happen as soon as Cash opened up to Millie. I also didn't find the twist as dramatic as it should have been. I should have been on the edge of my seat and I definitely wasn't.
I would also say that the pace of the plot was a bit messy. There was a huge variance in how much time would pass. For instance, a few months could last a few paragraphs or half the book. There was no in between. However, all the plot points did tie up nicely and it was a nice ending to Cash and Millie's story. There were no unanswered questions, really.
Hooked, as I have said, was an average contemporary YA romance that, in all honesty, would have been one hundred times better with a little bit of polishing. I did enjoy reading Hooked, though, and despite its flaws, I couldn't put it down. It's just not the best books I've read and I really don't know if I would recommend Hooked. If it really seems like a book you'd enjoy then, sure, give it a whirl.
Millie is starting her senior year. She wants to have a fun year with her best friends Cara and Jess. They make their yearly predictions for the school year after Millie gets her very own car. Life is good! When someone new walks in Millie is shocked. He is hot and she is instantly intrigued. He turns out to be Cash Davis from Boston. He is the ultimate bad boy. He is trying to keep his head down and get through his senior year. Of course Millie makes that difficult. He is a moth that is attracted to her light. He can’t stay from her. They grow closer as time goes on but he refuses to open up about what is going on. He is afraid to put her in danger. When his past catches up with him everything comes to a head. Millie’s dad has to come help out the situation. True danger stalks them both. I loved the dedication that Cash has for Millie. It is truly sigh worthy. Every woman needs a man that in love with her. The storyline was sweet and a great love story. However I couldn’t stand Millie. She was too emotional and seemed extremely young for her age. It really drove me crazy. She was too sheltered as a character with a too controlling father. Didn’t care for the family dynamics that the author created. Just couldn’t connect with the characters with that family. I did like Cash and Jess. They were strong and very believable. I like a little grit and angst to my teenage characters. I have yet to meet a teen that doesn’t fight the system in some way, even those considered the good ones. With that in mind it was a cute love story. I give it a 3 out of 5.
Hooked is a perfect name for this book, because I was hooked from the beginning 4.5 stars for this book! I really got engrossed in this book it was a cute read. It's a young adult book so it's about young high school love. And it's based in Tennessee and as a Tennessee girl what's not to love. .lol Millie Diamond is your typical high school senior, just caught in the cross hair of trying to make through school but preparing for life. She has great parents who have tried to help her plan her life out and of course she has to be the one with the police officer dad. Cash Davis is definitely not looking for a girlfriend. Being in trouble back on Boston him and his mom has to move to Tennessee. Especially after her dad arrested him the first week he was in town. But sometimes fate steps in and as a way of bringing the right people in your life for reasons. But trouble can also follow you around. Can Mil and Cash's young love last through all these troubles or is it just young love lost? Find out when you read this book. I would definitely recommend it especially if you're looking for a ya read. A cute, funny, and romantic read.
Predictions were made for their senior year. Maddie will be dating the newest guy in school, Jess is gonna wear a gown on their prom night, and Care will go to college with her boyfriend Jason. So far, only two came true.. Nevertheless, it doesn't change the fact that Maddie is soon gonna experience the pain and joy with her first love. And I guess, it's true what they say.. First Love Never Dies... at least for MAD and Cash.
While Millie is a good daughter and a loyal friend, Cash isn't the typical guy her dad would want her to date. He's got bad boy reputation, deals with thugs and drugs, and has got a family problem he can't seem to fix. But Millie's a great girl and she always sees the good in every worse situation, thus she understands Cash more than he knows.
Hooked tells about young love, sweet love. I thought it was too young for me. Too cheesy for my taste. What I liked, however, was how it promoted respect and love for family members, that whatever happens, through the good times and worst times, your family is the first and last thing you'll always run too and will always help you, no matter what.

Hooked was the first book I'd read by Carrie Thomas, and it won't be the last. I enjoyed this story about trust, kindness, and love. The characters she created will work their way into your heart and stay there.
Millie, the main character, was such a sweetheart. She constantly saw the good in other and only wanted to help everyone. Her concern for others was genuine. Cash, her love interest, was a bad boy on the surface. Deep down, he had a good heart and great intentions. Fortunately, Millie was able to see beyond his scars and get to know him.
Hooked had me holding my breath throughout the pages. This was such a good love story, but I kept waiting for tragedy to strike. As a reader, sometimes we are presented with stories which seem too honest to be true. We're expecting bad things to happen. Thomas' story contains a hiccup, but it's not a heart wrenching love story.
You will love this story. Even the ending is perfect. I look forward to reading more by Carrie Thomas.

I love reading story lines of good girls falling for the bad boys, unfortunately for me this book just wasn't what it could have been. There were parts that I enjoyed but a lot that I didn't. I think my biggest problem was that I was not a fan of Cash or how the relationship progressed.
Millie is the good girl, her dad is a cop so she doesn't venture outside the line. Cash is your typical bad boy, dresses in dark clothes, drives a classic car smokes and had a troubled past. Cash and Millie develop an instant connections that changes everything for both of them.
Unfortunately for me there was so much wrong with the relationship. It was from 0 to 100 in no time. It was like they said 50 words to each other and now they are boyfriend and girlfriend. It was all to touchy for me, Cash was way to possessive and blew up over the littlest things.
I liked the secondary characters in the book, I would like to read a book about Jess and Jake and how there relationship really came about. I liked them.

This book was a very easy and quick read. The storyline was pretty cliché and I really thought, that I would love the book more than I did. I love reading story where the good girl falls for the bad boy, unfortunately for me this book just wasn't what it could have been. The mean problem was the relationship between Millie and Cash it just went from 0 to 100 in no time and then they was boyfriend and girlfriend and Cash was way to possessive and blew up over the littlest things. Millie and I, we did not connect and I couldn’t stand Millie. She was very emotional and seemed very young for her age.
This is a story set in the last year of High School and revolves around Millie, who is a typical teenage girl. She sees beyond the tough guy exterior of Cash Davis, the new boy in school, and falls for him. Their relationship has its ups and downs until finally there is a happy ending. I did like that Millie was an average girl with the hopes and dreams most girls have at the age of seventeen.
Warning for those sensitive to obscene language: there are several occurrences throughout the book!
I was provided a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Grabbed a copy of Hooked at a signing in Nashville. Carrie is such a down to earth person. She sat and shot the crap for like ten minutes with me. Now... the book! I gave it a five star cause I loved this book. I do wish I could have Eli's story but I do believe it is a work in progress. Thank you Carrie Thomas. You are awesome!
Hooked was a great read for me. It took me back to a time in my life I have not thought about in over 20 years. Thank you for Millie and Cash's story. I would recommend it for any parent with a teenager. Thanks again.
I feel like this book is a great young adult read. It tells of a girl in her senior year of high school and what goes on in her life. It portrays the relationships with her and her friends in a very realistic way. Also, it tells of the struggles and journey of young love! I loved this book!
Great YA book. Cash and Millie are a great together. I feel like he walked into her life when she needed him the most and even more so for Cash. The struggles man! Great read and cannot wait for more from Carrie Thomas.
Well you get information overload in the first 8% and then I seriously enjoyed the book!! I loved Millie and Cash so much. Great side characters and a good pace to the story!!
I was kinda disappointed in the story line. Or more so how immature the senior high school students were portrayed to be. But it was a good book. I would suggest i
Wonderful read :) romantic I cried when cash had to leave with the Feds but was happy when he came back at the and proposed :) they got thier HEA :) great read
Author Carrie Thomas is to our teenage daughters as to what Judy Blume was to me…to us really. Judy Blume in some aspects was that mother, that sister and THAT friend that I could turn to when life just seemed too complicated. If you have a teenage daughter or a sister who is in high school (junior high even), this is the book that she needs to read.
Hooked is a beautifully written, down to earth, young adult romance novel about first loves. I, myself don’t normally read young adult books but I’m so glad that I read it, I’m simply in love with HOOKED. It brought me back to those days as a young, naïve teenage girl who fell hard for the “wrong boy” along with trying to understand what it was that I was actually feeling. I loved how the author was able to bring be back to a place that I pretty much forgot about.
As a parent, I wish that this book was out when my girls were teenagers. I not only would have bought them a copy but I would have bought all their friends a copy…..but honestly, it’s not just for teenage girls. It’s for you as well.
I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This was a cute, clean YA romance. Millie is very sweet and good and she definitely brings out the best in Cash. And Cash has just enough mysterious, bad boy vibe to let Millie experience life, in a good way.
This book pretty much started and finished perfectly, which had its pros and cons. I enjoyed this light, fun new romance and I'm glad I finally got around to reading it.
I think that this could be one of my favorite young adult book. It had everything a young adult book should have. It had a little bit of drama, first loves, first heartbreaks, friendships that last forever, and of course families that will be strong through everything. I enjoyed this book very much. The characters were very likable and you could relate to everyone in the book. To the girl that found her first love, to the overbearing dad that knows best, the mom that tries to even everything to let her little grow up, and to the boy that thought he couldn't love unconditionally anymore. It was such a sweet story, with of course some of the drama the book should have and it was one that most young adults can relate too. This author put in words what some girls don't know how to write, and gave them a voice.
Mad, as her brother calls her, is starting her senior year and wants to experience new events, which include finding a boy, falling in love, going to college and just living life. She never suspected a ride with her friends for ice cream and find a guy that takes her heart right away. Mad is a relatable character, you will absolutely love her. Her heart is what makes her one of the most special people that you read about. I give her parents a lot of credit, because without them she would not be who she is. She sees people as who they are not what they have done and Cash is her person that she gives that perspective more than anyone will give him credit. Cash, you will absolutely love him. He is a boy that had to become the man of the house, make choices he shouldn't have had to, but it has only made him stronger than ever. He loves with all hes got and for that it makes him a great pair for Mad. Their love will be one of the most powerful love stories for young adults which is absolutely great to see how a love story with some complications that can grow.
This is the first time I read this author and loved her. It was such a great story. I hope to read more from this author and would recommend this author to anyone that asked. I love finding authors that I don't know and I read the book and I say Wow, I wish I would have know about this author sooner. Now I know and can only say that I will be looking for more from this author. Great storyline, Great characters, and it is not a cliffhanger.
I clearly saw the potential in the plot as I was excited upon reading the blurb but when I was actually reading, the excitement was flickering like a dim flame getting smaller and smaller. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was 'bad' book, but more in the perspective of the journey of the book was bumpy and rushed.
At first I felt like the book was going too slow, I even posted a status showing my gratification when things started to speed up and get more interesting at around 50%. From that point on, I was intrigued to find out more about our characters as well as their backgrounds which is ironic as we are more than halfway into the book and I felt like I don't even know the characters well.
But, before I knew it, everything was suddenly too fast. The latter part of the book felt extremly rushed, to the point where I couldn't really decipher whether there was a change in time leaving me confused. Honestly, I would of liked to see the incidents near the end of the book to be another book in general as I think it would make a great development novel for both the characters and the plot.
This book was a very easy and quick read. The storyline was pretty cliché and so were the characters. For this reason I really didn't enjoy it as much as I would've liked to. Even though it was cliché it could've been a better if it was written in a way that complimented the story. In saying this, the writing was pretty young, and because of this the story didn't progress far enough for me. The detail of the writing was quite precise but it wasn't to the point as much as I would've hoped. Most of the time the story was switching from past and present tense which was also something that I really struggled with. It was pretty basic and although I enjoyed it at times, I was really hoping that it was going to be better.
2.5. This book could have been so good. I could see the potential, but there were problems with the writing. Too much detail. It felt like it was switching from past/present tense. I love these stories, but was disappointed. I know authors spend a lot of time writing. I think if it would have been reedited, it could be really good.
I would say this is 2.5-3 star read, i am YA reading fan but i found this a bit slow and over discriptive. Also i think its probably for a younger age group. It did get a little better towards the end and as an ok read however i didnt think i would recommond or re-read it
Another great read by carrie thomas! I'm a sap for romance and this one did not disappoint! Truly portrayed a good girl bad boy story that happens so much in high school. I actually cried while reading this book, and felt so drawn to millies story. a must read!
I was hooked. You will be too. It was a great book of a girl who has it all and a hot guy who doesn't. They have chemistry and its hot! Her father wants her to stay away, he is dangerous. She can't stay away. Its a must read! Great book.
I though that I would love this book, I was wrong. The characters were so immature it felt like a disney movie, all "lovey dovey". overall readable but nothing more.
