He was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Mere Christianity, Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classics The Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and been transformed into three major motion pictures.

A little Lewis gem this! Was super lucky to pick this up in a second hand book store for R5!
I didn't even now about the book up until then. It contains a few sermons and lectures that Lewis gave. I don't know if it's essentially him talking and not necessarily writing, but they are especially heart-warming while not losing that crystal clear thinking and logic that he is so famous for.

There are five essays here, including the excellent "Weight of Glory." Three of them were quite compelling. The other two, including the one giving the book its name, I barely comprehended. Still, I so enjoy reading Lewis.

“poetry replaces grammar, gospel replaces law, longing transforms obedience, as gradually as the tide lifts a grounded ship.”

“We cannot mingle with the splendor we see. But the leaves of the New Testament are rustling with the rumor that it will not always be so.”

“Meanwhile, the cross comes before the crown and tomorrow is a Monday morning.”

I loved this little book. Lewis has the ability to make you think in ways you’ve never thought before. I’ll reread these again and again, I’m sure.
