But when horribly dissected corpses starting appearing on the hospital grounds, it is about to get very crowded.
The CID coroner Parva Corcoran must work out why the hospital's own staff - dedicated to saving lives - are being targeted by a serial killer who shows no mercy? And why the bodies have been horribly mutilated?
As she starts to uncover the horrifying truth of Ward 19, her own professional past is called into question. And as she digs into the toughest case of her career, the reality is far worse than anything she could have imagined.
A really gripping short crime thriller with an interesting, quirky protagonist. A wonderful sense of authenticity from an author you can trust to get the factual elements right. I look forward to further dispatches from the casebook of Parva Corcoran.
I came across this by confessions of a London call out and what a super book it is thriller and can’t put the book down!! Fantastic read... no doubt anyone who enjoys crime fictions will absolutely love this book!!
I often struggle with reading shorter books. I find it very difficult to engage with the character/s and the storyline and I have to say, that was definitely the case here.
I didn't care enough about the characters to be affected by what happened. I found the storyline to be a little too rushed and I realised who the killer was almost straight away. I feel this would have benefited from being a longer book - I at least managed to finish it, but it was nowhere near as good as I'd hoped going in.
This could just be personal preference, though - I've been trying not to deliberately read shorter books as much.
While the market is flooded by so-called medical/otherwise thrillers burdened with mushy side-stories and identity-challenged protagonists, JLP's latest offering is a refreshing change. Even before I could realise how fast things (and the pages on the Kindle) are moving, the story had reached a tight & action-driven climax, with a satisfactorily grotesque finale. I would be eagerly awaiting the next Parva Corcoran thriller. And for every lover of tight & compact reads: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I don't want to say the description to this story is misleading... Okay, that is exactly what I'm saying. I feel that being a short story in every sense of the word is also the demise of this anything but "Thriller."
Normally I despise filler/fluff but I yearned for it here, as the protagonist quickly jumped from case to case. It happened so fast that I would debate anyone that the ending could be ever referred to as climactic. Poor character development makes it almost impossible to care for anyone.
A lot of promise here I think ruined by the fact that it's a short story.
This book could have been a lot better had it been longer. As it was there was no engagement with the characters or build up of tension to what was happening. There was no real development of the story, and I wasn't excited or even interested to find out what happened. With this sort of book there needs to be smaller developments between the key events and more exploration to get the reader invested in the story and keep them guessing who's behind it.
Interesting short story with a good idea. I would have loved if this was a full novel because a lot more information and interesting things could have been conveyed.
