Kieran Meehan was born in London in 1952. His family moved to Scotland in '62. Growing up in Glasgow he spent every spare moment drawing, painting, reading and immersing himself in comic books. At eleven years of age, his parents enrolled him in Saturday morning art classes at the Glasgow School of Art.

In 1989, Meehan began sending single-panel cartoons to a variety of magazines and newspapers. He was first published in 1991 when three cartoons were purchased by Private Eye. After this minor breakthrough his cartoons were published in a variety of publications and he produced regular weekly cartoons for The Glaswegian' (until he was brutally fired) and 'Scotland on Sunday' (until he was brutally fired). He also produced a daily cartoon for the 'Evening Times' from 2005 until 2009 when he was fired (quite brutally). Such is the decline of the newspaper industry!

Within two years of sending samples to King Features Syndicate, 100 of Meehan’s single-panel cartoons had been featured under King’s 'The New Breed' title.

Jay Kennedy, then editor-in-chief of King Features, encouraged Kieran to develop a comic strip in addition to his signature single-panel cartoons. Meehan Streak, a strip based on Kieran’s single-panel comics, was launched and syndicated by the Los Angeles Times Syndicate and Tribune Media Services until 2005.

In 2005, Kieran was offered a King Features Syndicate development contract to work on a strip chronicling the friendships, foibles and frictions between lawyers, doctors and cops. There are five main characters:- Samuel Rhodes, a skeptical defense lawyer, Lyndon Peel, a sophisticated and oft-oblivious psychiatrist, Stan Defoe, a streetwise cop, Gillian Jaggers, the District Attorney and Sophie Defoe, Stan's sister and owner of Defoe's Diner. 'Pros & Cons' has been syndicated worldwide by King Features since September 2005.

I really enjoyed this little book. It's only small and quite thin but is packed with loads of cartoons.

The odd few weren't to my taste or went over my head but on the whole it was very funny. The author is very witty and I found the best way to read this was to dip in randomly when I had a few minutes to spare. I found myself laughing or chuckling out loud on several occasions and I found this really cheered me up and lifted me when I was a bit fed up.

I would highly recommend this, I was lucky enough to win it in a giveaway but I would definitely buy it and it is sold at a bargain price - would make a great little gift or stocking filler.

FUUUUNNY! A single toon on every page. A great pick-me-up when needed. Went through the entire book to review it, however, now reading one page a day. One page every morning so I can keep it in my head to refer back to when I need a chuckle during the day or to share with my friends throughout the day! Pick it up... You won't regret it!

I won this book on Goodreads First Reads!

Very cute, witty and clever comic strips. It ranges from a married couple, Vikings, police, cavemen, to even Hell. I'll have to admit, begrudgingly, that I didn't understand every single one but enjoyed them all the same. Wouldn't mind having more of these. :)

I wont this book on the Goodreads Giveaway. I had no idea what it was going to be about before I got it. It contains smart comics. I don't know how else to put it. Some of them went a bit over my head but a lot are just brilliant (ie. the police custody lineup one). It's a great coffee table book. Very entertaining.
