I grew up in a small town in northern Illinois, west of Chicago. After graduating high school, I dual majored in English Literature and German Language at a small, Midwestern liberal arts college. After undergrad, I turned my eyes towards exploration, and spent many years in Japan, Thailand and Hawaii.

Nowadays, I live with my partner near Seattle, Washington, where I work in the gaming industry.

I love stories. I’ve long been fascinated by video games as a storytelling medium, and I love exploring different cultures, discovering the different underlying stories that different groups of people tell themselves, the stories that define who they are and how they perceive the world.

Short. Really short. About 40 pages of text. I think what this is supposed to be is a continuing tale, similar to John Scalzi's "Human Division" tales. Bonelli is not Scalzi, of course, but one must start somewhere.

This isn't even a complete story. It's an introduction to a story. It gets the reader right to the verge of a story, then ends.

Bonelli has talent. Looking forward to a story.

Voyage: Pt 1 is a pleasant surprise. I'd been reading the author's blog for a few months leading to this release, and I had read the prologue so I was a bit familiar with the world he was creating.
The prologue is interesting, and perhaps sets up what will happen later in the series, but the book didn't hook me until partway into chapter 1. The character is able to use a technological device to travel between alternate Earths (our Earth is simply one outcome of a possible millions), and I find this concept fascinating. There are actually so many possibilities, I don't know how Bonelli will be able to weave a storyline through it all, but I'm looking forward to finding out.
The story really gets good when the protagonist leaves the first world (Felis) and travels to a new Earth, searching for an object of great importance to him. This was my favorite part of the story, probably because I loved the world-building. It's Earth but...not Earth. The author does a great job pointing out not only the differences, but also the similarities between the Earths, and the dialogue and character development are top notch. Probably my only complaint would be the book's length. It's so short and it left me eager to keep reading! I'm worried that when the next installment comes out, I'll have lost the momentum to keep going. Then again, considering the length of Book 1, re-reading it wouldn't take long at all.
Overall, very good start to a promising new series. Part two was also great and I've read every episode so far.

This is the first installment of an epic science-fiction romp through some very unique alternate earths. The story follows the adventures of Kal as he attempts to journey home to his earth after being stranded on the first world introduced, Felis.

Felis is an alt-earth home to giant cats. This is Kal's base of operations throughout the series. Kal became stranded here when he was 14 for reasons that will become clear as the book progresses. Sometime around his 18th birthday he discovers a way to escape from Felis via the metaxia - which is the space from which one accesses different realities - to search for a way home.

Before he can start his exploration he is visited by two strange beings who leave him with a cryptic warning before vanishing. I'm guessing this is set up for the overarching plot of the novel.

This installment also introduces Ydora, the first inhabited alt-earth Kal explores in his travel. I'll leave it to you to discover the wonders of this place.

The author excels at world-building, each alt-earth is extremely unique and interesting. Each alt-earth story is followed by some very cool artwork of that world.

I can't wait to read more of Kal's explorations in Part 2!

(Full disclosure: I was provided with a free copy of the Voyage:Embarkation series)

Kal, a talented and experienced computer programmer, is stranded on a world populated exclusively by giant cats. With naught but his programmable nanites for non-feline company, Kal works to unlock the information in his brain that will allow him to return to the metaxia, the in-between space linking an untold number of universes, including the home from which he came...

Intelligent, humorous, and above all utterly engaging, the first chapter in the Voyage: Embarkation series sets the scene for fathomless intrigue to follow. A supremely polished and entertaining read. Highly recommended!
