'Penang – An inside guide to its historic homes, buildings, monuments and parks' offers the first detailed account of the families and individuals, who arrived as settlers, traders, miners, cooks and explorers and made Penang their home. Along the way they made fortunes in tin, opium, rubber and commerce, and created empires, and left legacies that became the stuff of legend. This is the story of those skilled opportunists, and of the mansions that they built, the architects they employed and the fortunes that they made and lost. With over 200 photographers detailing their journey, these are the priceless stories of the families that ultimately made Penang.
This is a nice cozy little book which serves bite-sized information on many notable heritage sites throughout Penang island itself.
Almost each page consists of a photograph of a heritage locality followed by a brief description of how it came about and what it eventually came of it at the end.
I highly recommend this book for those who are interested in learning about Penang as a whole.
