A nice YA fantasy for younger teens.

--------------------

This book is a good example of why I wait to read series (more about that soon, in my review of Eldest). Action-packed, an original voice, sharp characters (although not so much as a mention of Henry's mother's lesbian affairs), but not resolved. For that, of course, you have to read the next book. *sigh*

Would've easily merited a 4 star rating from me if the first half was as good as the second.

Ended up liking this one a whole lot more than I was expecting as it got better and better once the plot was set in place.

I may have rated it only a 3 but I am now looking forward to reading the rest of this series very much.

This book was about wizards, magic, evil, good and all that other magical stuff. In a place called The Faerie Realm there is a Purple Palace, in the Purple Palace there is a a Purple Emperor who rules the whole Realm. When the Emperor dies a sudden death, his son pyrgus has to become the new Purple Emperor. Even with Pyrgus's sister, Blue, help he is still really nervous. with only a little time before he becomes emperor, Pyrgus is suprised when he hears news that his father has been resurrected by Lord Hairstreak(ruler of the bad people). Since Lord Hairstreak resurrected the Emperor he has control over him. Blue and Pyrgus get sent away so they don't get in the way of what Hairstreak wants to do. On there way they run into the forest faeries. Pyrgus almost gets killed by one of the faeries named Nymph. Later she tells them Pyrgus that she is not bad. Once Nymph and Pyrgus become friends and they join forces to try and bring down Lord Hairstreak. when they sneak into the palace the wizard they came with flings a fireball into a room that Henry is in. Henry gets all the skin on his face and stomach burnt off, killing Henry. Just in time before he dies the Silk Misterisses sew silk onto and he lives.

An interesting sequel and I like his view on faerie realms and his writing style. It's a nice little filler for the trilogy. Just one more book to go. If you want to buy this book, you're welcome to. I'll be putting it up on ebay soon, but contact me and you can have it. (I accidentally bought two.) Just a few of the pages are dog eared, but other than that it's in perfect condition!

This is the second installment of the Faerie Wars series. Henry is drawn back into the problem in the Faerie realm. He goes on to have more adventures while helping Pyrgus and Blue and defeating the attempts of Lord Hairstreak to assassinate one of the royal family. This is fun read full of faerie magic and adventure. I am looking forward to the next one.

I'm really enjoying the story and the archetype it follows. While each one of the story's heroes goes through their own journey, each one ultimately is forced out of what they know, only to find that they have more strengths than they knew. Eventually, they will return home to try to establish something familiar again. Viewed through the moral lense, the story is a classic good vs evil, light elves vs dark elves, demons vs angels. The good side never doubts or questions their own beliefs or the absolute virtue of their cause, while the evil side is the classic villain, right down to their warped sense of pleasure and their repetitive backstabs and betrayals.

Aurora la mia ispirazione da sempre.
Henry e Scassatimpani NUOVO DUO INDISCUSSO.
Beleth tutto muscoli e niente cervello ci prova sempre, poverino.

As far as sequels go, this book was better than its predecessor. But that doesn’t mean it was that good. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad. It’s just that there were some things in this book that didn’t make it spectacular and these things go beyond minor nitpicks.

First off, the character cast was definitely better, or at least some of the characters were better. As always, the immediate royal family was good. Pyrgus is excellent as always (well, for a while but I'll get to that in a bit) and Holly Blue is just shining with awesomeness and totally kicking ass with her tough and secure personality. Those two are great but I honestly don’t know what to make of their half-brother Prince Comma. At times, it seems like he’s just a spoiled child that has been given a bunch of power and he’s just using it however he wants. But there are some times when it seems like he doesn’t seem that naïve and spoiled as everyone makes him out to be. Like there’s something deeper in what he’s doing. I don’t even know this character’s age. Pyrgus keeps calling him ‘a boy’ but I don’t know if he’s in his middle-grade years or if he’s a teenager and his mentality is that of ‘a boy’. I definitely would have believed it if that was the case. Henry, Mr. Fogarty, and The Painted Lady are okay characters too. Mr. Fogarty is just really cool with his grouch-like personality and it was really adorable when he and the Painted Lady developed a crush on each other. The romance between the two of them is really charming and adorable. I thought it was hilarious when she comes to his room and doesn’t ‘take it slow’ because of their age.

Similar to the first one, this book manages to have all these subplots crammed into this book. But for the most part, the subplots seem to tie together for the story. Most of them anyway. For some reason, the ending just wrapped the storyline really quick and it does not flow nicely at all. A lot of story points are thrown in there and are not tied together very well. The plot with the wyrms (I think that’s how it’s spelled) and Chalkhill was pretty pointless because nothing happened from that little subplot. Nothing. That whole part could have been taken out and it wouldn’t have made a difference in the world.

The villain in this story was also pretty weak. Hairstreak was evil and we didn’t see a lot of him so the suspense of what he was doing was there and it was okay. He was defeated very quickly and he was kind of boring. The other characters that were involved with him seemed intimidated by him. But the problem with Hairstreak was that he didn’t seem very threatening. At least his character didn’t seem like that. He was boring and not really that interesting.

Surprisingly, Henry wasn’t in this book a whole lot. He was there and did a few things but he didn’t seem to do anything relevant except for coming up with a plan at the end of the book and getting faeries warriors killed. He didn’t annoy me since he wasn’t around anymore so he was just ok. Just your typical generic hero who wants to be good but instead just makes mistakes and is immediately forgiven.

As always Holly Blue and Fogarty are pretty awesome. For some reason Pyrgus pissed me off in this book. A LOT. That’s kinda weird for me since I really like this character. He was usually carefree and was quite adventurous to some extent. Here, he seems like a wimp. He can’t make decisions, he’s constantly distracted and he seems to have his head up his ass. I mean really? At first, I was really understanding because he just recently lost his father. So I’m sympathetic and I can understand why he’s acting the way he’s acting. But then he

Then we have some new characters like the endolg Flapwazzle who is just fun and I love his sarcastic attitude. Madame Cynthia is great and a lot of fun. Queen Cleopatra, her consort Gonepterix, and her daughter Princess Nymphalis are great characters but they sadly don’t spend a lot of time in the book. But for their time in it, they were really entertaining and I really enjoyed reading them.

Princess Holly Blue is my favorite character so far. She is just awesome and has this level of badass about her. She’s smart, speaks up for herself, takes charge, and takes crap from nobody. She also has the cliché of liking Henry but I can’t complain. It was bound to happen sooner or later. What I also like about Blue is that she likes to get into people’s faces when she’s not satisfied and DEMANDS answers. She’ll be rude, yell, and order people around so that she can get stuff done and I like that. She’s tough, smart, and reliable. Girl, please don’t change.

Not sure if I want to continue the series. If the third one focuses on Blue more than I’ll be all set.

This is the sequel to The Faerie Wars. Took me quite some time to finish this book, but I really enjoyed it. The book is meant for younger readers, but I'm not ashamed to say that I enjoy reading these type of books. Wouldn't say I was the best at doing reviews, but this story has a lot to offer if you like stories of good versus evil. Plenty of plot twists to keep you interested. Lots of Faeries and other mythical creatures abound within this book.

A lovely little novel. More entertaining than the 1st one. We're introduced to the forest faerie who seem to be the most indomitable group of all!! Lord Hairstreak is back to his conniving ways & strategizing to take over the realm. That wretch Brimstone is back helping his favorite demon who has a very short lived victory.

Plenty of storylines to go around!

This is the second book in the series. I know I read the first book, but remembered that I didn't like it for some reason. This was before good reads, so I have no idea why I didn't like it. However, I really liked this one, so I might have remembered wrongly about the first. I plan to finish reading the triology.

There was a lot more mystery in this book than the first one. I enjoyed the plot twists' as well as the character p.o.v changing. It never gave you too much information, just enough to make you want to keep reading.

Henry ( the main character ) goes to see his friend Pyrgus crowned. Things are held up such as family since his father has moved out and his Moms girlfriend has moved in. Things have changed drastically for him. Blue goes to track down Henry for her brothers coronation but Henry can’t make it right away. He is missing important transportable parts. Somehow a spell went wrong ?
When he improvises the gadget it messes up him getting to the realm. Not to mention Mr.Fogarty Pyrgus and Blue are ousted by their brother Comma. Mr.Fogarty being unlucky as a friend to them. Comma being part fairy of the night and nephew to Lord Hairstreak seizes the chance to meddle in politics to have his way as regent. Lord Hairstreak pissed off a horrible demon called Beleth in fairy wars in comes back to haunt him.
