What happens when you have a reputation as a cad and you hire the perfect man to work in your office? Workplace romance is a recipe for disaster. Surviving the rough patch in the economy, Braxton Todd’s LA PR firm was flourishing. Having one assistant, both of them overwhelmed by work, Braxton hires someone to give them relief from the hectic non-stop phone calls and emails from their demanding clients. And not only was Braxton going out of his mind with too much work, his love life had taken a dive ever since he got the reputation as a hit & run lover, which he was; ‘A one-date-wonder’.
Roped into a charity event where he is auctioned off for three dinner dates with three different people, Braxton ends up being the prey for a trio of terrible dining companions and can only think of one man. The man he just hired to help him out. And that man, Fabian Rhys, is too good an employee to dare cross the line into a relationship with and risk losing him as a worker.
Fabian Rhys was sick of temp jobs and when he got the offer from Braxton Todd, the infamous PR man whose reputation was a splattered all over tabloid press, he knew one thing. He could not be attracted to a man with a notorious reputation as a one-hook-up cad. But when Fabian began the job, and could see the press had painted Braxton in a terrible light. The two men began to dance around each other at work, terrified of ruining a good thing. Would either man cross the line and risk losing what they needed financially? Or did the connection have disaster written all over it? When two A-type individuals find working with each other a breeze, what will it take for them to jump the divide into each others’ arms? Maybe it was two simple words. Marry me.

Braxton is a player, or at least he was, he never went on a date with the same person twice, he was an equal opportunity guy, if it held still long enough he'd screw it, male, female made no difference to him. Fabian needs a job, he's been a temp long enough in this economy , so he is interviewed and gets a job with Braxton. Now I was surprised with all this work they didn't even have an intern or college kid doing paperwork, faxing, errands..etc..but ok, fine it's just the 3 of them running this hugely successful PR firm. Not even a secretary?? I keep getting distracted by stuff like that, Braxton is auctioned off for a good cause and had three dates with 3 very creepy, horrible people..I didn't get the point of them all being so OTT, except maybe to show what a slut reputation Braxton has. Of course all of this is childhood trauma induced. Fabian was sort of an enigma, he wanted Braxton but he seemed to always think the worst of him, Braxton kept asking of he was a prick and Fabian would say not to me, so he still think he is one, and he keeps thinking thinking Braxton is out to make him a notch on the bedpost, but jumps into bed with him, I don't know, it was an ok story, I don't mind the insta-love, they were both in their 30s and had yearned for love and commitment, but up until the end I didn't really get the guys, they ran hot and cold and love then not. Braxton also seemed very needy and dependent on Fabian almost immediately for such a successful business man, I couldn't believe that. I guess I still haven't gotten over a big shot PR firm with only 3 employees. I think if I had seen more of them together without the sex, and maybe an epilogue I would have been happier.
I'm really sorry to say this, but Marry Me really didn't work for me. At all. I didn't feel any connection to the characters, neither Braxton nor Fabian, and I didn't see any chemistry between them. Their behaviour seemed over the top and rather unbelievable and, actually, so did the actions of Braxton's assistant Brianna. I didn't get any of them. This was really disappointing.
Braxton is a player and, as it seems in the first pages of this book, a self-loving prick. But in truth he's an anxious, self-hating prick. No, wait. An anxious, self-hating, lost little boy with abandonment issues and the most gorgeous exterior. Who hasn't had a second date in all his life (really? never???). And he doesn't want a permanent fixture in his life, seeing his all-consuming work that doesn't allow him any leisure time at all. Or so it seems in the first few pages. Then, it looks like he has secretly been looking for a relationship all along. So he goes for it, all the way, everything included. With a man he knows for a week. Of course, during this week he struggles, Fabian - his new assistant and the chosen one - struggles with Braxton's struggles, but love, primarily evoked by Fabian's effective and smart work behaviour and his, of course, incredibly gorgeous looks, prevails.
...wait, what? Yeah, I'm still confused. How old were these guys again?
Moreover, there were some things in this story that just didn't add up. So Braxton's company almost went bankrupt about a year or two ago, but now he's one of the most sought-out celebs and PR professionals in town, with the most awesome equipment (porsche, awesome condo, etc)? And I don't know what exactly Fabian's previous work entailed, but getting on a job and just rocking it from the get-go without any serious sort of system introduction seems rather far-fetched in my experience - particularly if you aren't specifically trained for the sort of job you have to do. No matter how good you are.
I've read a story by G.A. Hauser before and I liked it, so I was pretty disappointed with this one. Too bad!
This book was really good. I enjoyed the story and Fabian and Braxton were a really nice couple. Braxton's past was not a huge shock to be honest. It was still nice to have it there, it helped me make a connection with the character.
Warning this book contains the following
*Insta Love *An ex-slut MC *A creepy old guy *A strange fan girl
Overall I enjoyed reading this book, the insta-love is not a problem for me. Some of the characters creeped me out. It was okay, but it took slightly from me enjoying the book more.
I would still recommend this book though. It was a good read!
Braxton owns a PR firm and hires Fabian to work for him. Braxton has never had a relationship and has a reputation around town. Fabian is looking for love and commitment. Both men are gorgeous!
A little bit unrealistic (what 35 year old experienced business graduate takes a job as an executive assistant?) but easy to overlook in the broader scheme of a story filled with shallow 'famous' people and the fast-paced PR world. I loved Brianna, the interfering (in the best possible way) assistant and loved
Marry Me actually had me worried when I first started. Braxton came across as an egotistical idiot, and I was positive that I would never warm up to him. Thankfully, I was very wrong. As the story unfolded, and I learnt more about this driven man, the more I came to like and admire him.
Fabian was a lovely character. I liked him straight away. I was definitely looking forward to him getting his HEA.
This story was a very quick, fast read, and I ended up enjoying it more than I expected to.
This was a pretty fun read, reminiscent of the Harlequins. Poor Braxton. Those dates he was auctioned off on were just sad, and the people who won those dates.... I'd have liked to see more of what happened with Dack and Drew afterward, and Virginia was a wack job. I started off liking her, but then she got on my last nerve.
I'm not sure how I feel about this book, so maybe the list of pro/cons would do it.
I loved Braxton and Fabian and their relationship. I'm a fan of insta-love, so I enjoyed this part and I found Braxton's turmoil very believable and well done and Fabian's just perfect for him.
But I wished there was more of them together, but unfortunately for the first approx. 1/3 of the book the MCs didn't interact, because it was before Braxton hired Fabian and that part of the story mostly consisted of reciting their daily routines, like what each one of them ate for brackfest, how they exercised at the gym, Braxton went to parties and talked with clients on the phone and Fabian sat at home with his laptop and did the job hunting - and it was just too boring for me and in my opinion it didn't add anything to the plot and could easily be shorten.
I also didn't like the interfering female friends/co-workers. It's one of my pet peeves, but I just can't stand this type of characters. I don't like meddling friends in general, because for me romance is first and foremost about two people, two MCs, not some kind of reality show, where all have a say in it and after each episode they'd discuss it freely and such. It's so annoying! And here Fabian did an almost daily digests of the progress of his relationship with Braxton to Naomi - it pissed me off so much, and Brianna's not a bad character per se, but her blatant matchmaking was so tactless and her interest in Braxton and Fabian's lives even if well meaning was just too off-putting and irritating to me. It spoiled the story for me a great deal, unfortunately.
All in all I don't regret reading this book and I definitely enjoyed some parts of it and I loved the main couple, but there's been a lot of things I'd've loved to be mercilessly cut out.
Really sweet story, and it was a page turner too. The angst was not too over-the-top, it was just enough. Its worth its price, and it has good g.a. hauser steamy sex!!
FYI - GO TO GA HAUSER'S WEBSITE. HOLY HELL!!! SHE'S MAKING A MOVIE OF CAPITAL GAMES & THE TRAILER IS UP (O' Yes Mark Richfield and Steven on the big screen...slow down my racing heart!!)
I absolutely loved this. It's at times sexy, then heated, and at times funny. Braxton is a rather intense and frustrating character that you love to (almost) hate, it takes someone like Fabian to tame the beast. I've read quite a few of this authors works and she just seems to get better every time.
My first GA Hauser book and really enjoyed it (apologies to my bank account, but I had to buy a further 6 of her books..with a few more added on my TBR list....) It was a slow burn story of Braxton, a workaholic and commitment phobe finally meeting his match and being knocked on his arse by the realisation there is more to life... and Fabian was it!! The only thing I didn't like was the way the story ended....it was a HEA (of sorts) but I am such a sucker for more when I invest in a story and characters, I like to have a full contented sigh at the end...but..I felt teased....they had just committed to each other and then no epilogue or further story about them....I so wanted to see how they lived, worked and played together!!!! However, it was a good read and I look forward to reading more by the author.
Fabian is sweet, out going, a sexy workaholic who needs a job desperately. Braxton is an over sexed, over worked, too sexy for his own good PR Marketing director who needs an assistant. During the interview Braxton is drawn to Fabian. Once he is hired, it's game over for Braxton. The relationship between them is fast paced with great dialogue and funny situations. The sex is hot and over the top. I loved how the author brings forward the trouble Braxton has with relationships. I thought the characters were magnificently written and I fell in love with both of them. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!
What started out (1/4 of the book) very, very wordy with no real story, picked up and took off. I found it cute and entertaining. No real drama, just a simple quick read. The whole book takes place in less than seven days.
As a side note, I find it very funny when people claim the characters of a book fell in love or in bed to fast. I meet my husband and in 3 dates (over 2 weeks) we knew we were in love. I moved in 2 weeks after I meet him and married him 6 months later. Our 32nd anniversary will be in a week. I love him more today than any of my yesterdays.
Cheesy as hell and utterly unbelievable. Braxton comes across like Patrick Bateman (but, you know, without the murdering), and Fabian seems sweet but blank. Instalove ensues. I rolled my eyes a lot.
I've enjoyed a few of this author's books in the past, in a cracktastic sort of way, but this one only cements my decision to quit reading her stuff. (I finished reading this because it was a Kindle loan and I would have felt guilty otherwise.)
Not very deep, kind of sweet plot, a reluctant make, insta-love and an ending that flies up quickly and doesn't make you feel like you finished a book. They're good to read in between a couple of dark or heavy novels.
Loved this book, I would have liked a little bit more exploration into the characters past in order to understand some of their reactions but the story it's original, well paced and entertaining.
I really liked this book, but just wanted more, what happened to them, did they get married, maybe just an epilouge or something though I would not be opposed to another book ha ha
