I thought the worst of my reaper training was behind me… turns out I was wrong. Dead wrong.
Molly Bartolucci has done a lot of growing up but after being accused of using illegal magic at her school for necromancers, reaper-in-training Molly is treading lightly. As the destined leader of Anubis’s Chosen, she needs to study hard, train harder, and stay out of trouble.
Uh, right.
It doesn’t help that she’s feeling more than academic about her melt-your-bones hot reaping instructor, Rath. And if her relationship drama isn’t enough to drive her over the edge, she has to deal with mother issues, nosy little sisters, suspicious friends, and an unnamed force stalking her at school.
Then her family is attacked, and her bio-dad ends up comatose in the hospital. Now, Molly has to uncover who’s trying to hurt her loved ones—and all without the help of Anubis.

Michele lives happily-ever-after with her Viking and their family.
I absolutely loved Undeadly, so I was very excited to read this book! I just love the concept if the story... Two of my favorite things (reapers and Egyptian mythology!) rolled into one? Yes please! The idea of reapers getting they're powers from the Egyptian god Anubis is just brilliant!
Anyway, so in this second installment of The Reaper Diaries, Molly trains to become the next Kebechet, the champion of Anubis, tries to figure out where her relationship with Rath stands, all while also trying to figure out who has put her family in danger. No one said being a reaper was easy ;)
I loved getting back to Molly's story, I just love her voice! It's so much fun being inside her head!
Another thing I loved, Rath! Ugh, he is just so swoon-worthy! Very sweet guy... I heart sweet guys :)
And holy mother of all surprises! We find out something really... Interesting about her. I'm still reeling...
One thing though, because I read Unchosen such a long time ago, there were something's I could just not recall... Like the deal with Aunt Lelia. A little more recap would've been nice.
But overall, I thought it was a great book! The mythology, the reapers, Molly's sass, Rath's super yumminess... I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for something exciting and very fun to read! I can't wait to see what'll happen next!

Nov 23, 2012: Holy Anubis this cover is GORGEOUS!! I cannot wait to read this book! I'm hoping for more Rath...he was a pretty intriguing character.
This book was absolutely amazing! I loved the first book and was afraid the second book might not live up to the awesomeness of its predecessor. Turns out I had nothing to worry about.
As with Undeadly, the sequel is full of mystery, laughs, and surprises. The more I discover about Molly and her abilities, the more I want to know about her and her mysterious family. I love that this book is something refreshing and new in the paranormal genre in that it’s about necromancy. Can you imagine a more captivating story than one that has zombies, ghosts, reapers, necromancers, and Egyptian mythology all rolled into one? Unchosen gives new meaning to the term “spellbinding”!
I can’t tell you much more about this magnificent read without including spoilers. But this is definitely one series I’ll be reading until the end. Just a pity I have to wait so long for the next instalment! I loved the characters and easily lost myself in Molly’s world. The writing is engaging and once or twice I even had to wipe away a tear.
I recommend this series to all fans of the paranormal genre. Michele Vail has created something new and unique, and if you haven’t read the first book yet, no worries, Unchosen can be read as a stand-alone.
Oh my god, that cover is OUT OF THIS WORLD.. absolutely gorgeous! Really liked the twist at the end of the other book.. Didn't see that coming. Rath better be a permanent fixture in this book, he's very... Intriguing, plus the cliffhanger at the end of Undeadly, nearly killed me ;)
(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to the Fantastic Flying Book Club, and Michele Vail.) This is book 2 in the ‘The Reaper Diaries’ series. Molly has sorted out her little mistake with Rick, but she’s got more things to worry about now when she’s in trouble for possession of a soul box, and there are issues with the role of the Kebechet. Will Molly get kicked out of school? Will she be the next Kebechet? And where is Anubis?
This was an okay story, but it was just missing something for me.
Molly was an okay character, if a little immature, and did come across as very naïve and childish at times. Her ‘notes to self’ were a little strange at times, and I also caught a Judy Blume shout-out when Molly asks ‘Are you there Anubis? It’s me, Molly’.
The storyline was okay, but the story felt a little wooden. At times I felt like I was reading the script from a made for TV movie, or watching a pantomime, and certain parts were just downright cheesy.
The info dumps were still there in abundance in this book, and there were whole chunks that just bored me. The storyline became quite convoluted in places, and at times I found it hard to follow exactly what was going on.
The romance between Molly and Rath seemed to escalate quite quickly, and Molly seemed to be very comfortable with this.
There were some twists and turns and action in this book, but for me they all seemed to come with a ‘Da-Daa!’ soundtrack, which was again a bit cheesy.
The ending was okay, but we were left with a cliff-hanger, and I can’t say that I’m all that desperate to find out what happens next. Overall; an okay story, but a little cheesy and rough around the edges in places. 6 out of 10.
Which is probably why I'm having a hell of a time tracking down the third book (which I have to read because the basic premise is good and her writing is fun).
The diary parts seemed weird this book. Like we were somehow getting her inner thoughts except for the fact that the whole book is her inner thoughts. It was clunky.
But I like the plotline, her supporting character's development is fab this book, and things went directions I didn't expect. Now, where the heck is the third book?!?
Honestly I love the main character, she is very realistic and the author’s portrayal is very natural. I keep being drawn back to this universe and love the fact that it’s inspired on Egyptian mythology. I’m excited to read the continuation of this book!
Before we get started with the review, can I just say how much I hate this cover? Not only that, but it does not even accurately reflect the contents of the book. Yes, Rath is in the book. Yes, they are reapers. But the book is about Molly, Rath is not even the focus of this book! This looks like the cover of a romance novel about a male reaper, which it is not.
Oh well, anyway! Although I was not the biggest fan of the first book in this series, I decided to give the second book a shot. In the first book, while I loved the Egyptian Mythology and reaper focus, Molly sounded like the teenage version of "Legally Blonde" which drove me crazy. This is toned down a bit in this second book, which I am very thankful for. The chapters are divided by quotes regarding Egyptian Mythology and advice from Molly to new reapers. This advice really showed Molly's maturity as a character, and the lessons she imparts are applicable for really anyone at any stage in their life. Get along with others. Pick your battles. Be kind. These may seem like things that everyone should know, but the way they are sprinkled throughout the book gives them context and makes Molly appear wise beyond her years.
The continued focus on the Egyptian mythology, its Gods, the zombies, and the ghosts is fantastic. There is really nothing else on the YA market that I have read that showcases this ancient belief system as well as this series does. My only wish would be that the Gods be given bigger personalities and a bit more spotlight so readers and learn to identify them by more than just their name.
While Molly is given more depth in this second volume, her friends are unfortunately still nothing more than two dimensional cardboard cut outs she eats lunch and hangs out with. The exception to this being Barbie. Barbie and her zombie, Jon Lemon, are really given a significant amount of depth near the end of this story. Jon Lemon in particular was really very endearing as a character, so I hope to see more of these two in the next installment.
We also get to see a bit more of Rath. His lines and interactions with Molly are so cheesy, though, that I began to roll my eyes and sigh heavily every single time his name appeared on the page. I understand that almost all YA books have to include a love interest, that is fine, but if you are going to include one at least give the boy a personality and lines that don't sound like they were ripped straight from a romantic comedy script or a soap opera. I hope that the third book in the series gives Rath the depth he deserves so I can begin to dislike him a bit less.
This was a huge improvement over the last book. Molly is given a real voice, and the advice she imparts to her readers is not only smart but timeless. Her friends and Rath are still not given any real depth however, with the exception of Barbie and her zombie, Jon Lemon, who step into the spotlight in the second half of the book. It's my hope the writing, characters, and world building continue to improve in the third volume in this series. I'd recommend this series to fans of reapers, zombies, ghosts, mythology, and paranormal fiction.
Unchosen is the second book in the reaper diaries series. I really enjoyed the plot line of the first book so I was really excited for Unchosen. I have mixed feelings about this book in the reaper diaries series. Overall, I enjoyed it. I thought it was a good plot progression for the series, but I felt like it was kind of slow in parts and there were large chunks of the book where I wasn’t really sure that anything was happening. However, I saw a lot of great growth for Molly as a character and that made me really happy. I know a lot of people took issue with Molly in the first book, and while I didn’t dislike her for being immature and her language, I did notice that she wasn’t the most mature teen in the world. I thought it made her REALISTIC though, and I appreciated that. In Unchosen though, I could see Molly growing up. I got to see more of her thought process and I understood her a little better in this story and I loved that.
Molly has a lot going on. She still has the whole gang from the first book, including class mates and teachers that are not her biggest fan, but now she also has a soul box in her possession and gets into trouble with the school. Plus this new lawyer lady showing up and with her crazy connection to anubis the plot certainly thickens in this installment in the reaper diaries. I liked learning new things about Molly and her powers, but I felt like it was a bit too much information at once sometimes. I found myself getting kind of confused or lost at certain points. Sometimes I would have a hard time keeping track of the info and other times I wouldn’t quiet know why the characters were doing what they were doing. It’s hard to explain but I didn’t really know what direction they were going in sometimes. BUT, eventually it all comes together. I figured it out and got caught up, no problem. I enjoyed Unchosen. I think it will be a great connector between the first book and the next book in the series. The third book is set up to be AWESOME, by the way!
The romance was kind of light for most of the book, but that didn’t bother me at all because this was Molly’s story. She was trying to figure things out and she was pretty busy! She was getting attacked left and right it seemed like, so I don’t know where she would have had time for much of anything else. Unchosen is a fresh take on reapers. I really like the mix of egyptian mythology into the story. That is still my favorite part. Overall, I think that Molly stepped up her game in this book and I loved that, but I also thought that the plot was a bit slow and suffered a bit of “middle book syndrome”. I am certainly interested to see what is going to happen in the next book though. I think it is going to be epic!
Molly is growing up, feeling more vulnerable and clueless as to how she is supposed to save the world. Coming to terms with previous mistakes, but still overwhelmed by lay before her, Molly begins to allow people into her circle and even into her heart. Perceived enemies just may be strong allies, while those she should be able to trust may not be who they seem. Everyone has an agenda and somehow it all comes back to Molly. Where is Anubis when she needs him? Who is this aunt who comes to her, is she friend or foe? How close is Set to being free? How is she supposed to kill him as prophesied? And what about Rath? He is dead, but he feels so alive and Molly is falling hard for her Reaper trainer. So many questions are boiling over, is it too much for a young ten to handle?
Unchosen by Michele Vail, Book two in The Reaper Diaries series chronicles another chapter of Molly’s new life, as the young queen of snark seems to be tamed down quite a bit. Has author Michele Vail decided Molly needs to accept her roll in life? Honestly, I think Molly is fighting it tooth and nail as she VERY realistically reverts back to her carefree, youthful self as a tool of self-preservation. Ms. Vail has brought more emotional conflict into the mix for several directions as she navigates the maze that she has created with a blend of characters who know their roles well! This is a fun read, not overly dramatic or messy, but as if it is seen and told by a young girl using her false bravado, not sure enough to admit she can and will save the day or die trying. I like the characters, even when they are slightly annoying! The small details Ms. Vail has interspersed into the “big plot” add more dimension to the tale and give it that realistic feel.
I received an ARC edition as part of the Unchosen Blog Tour stopping by Tome Tender November 1, 2013!
Series: The Reapers Diaries, Book 2 Expected Publication Date: October 29, 2013
Molly has been though a lot lately. Her first kiss – and subsequent first enthralling. Finding out her bio-dad is actually an ancient Egyptian God. Add to that her maternal ancestors all had Reaper powers and she was a legacy at a prestigious boarding school for necromancers. But things are just getting started for Molly.
She has to train to be the ‘Chosen’ Daughter of Anubis – despite the fact that she is in fact Anubis’ only living flesh girl child. She needs to somehow stay under the radar at school before whoever is trying to frame her gets her expelled. Oh and she needs to keep her wits about her even when sleeping because she keeps getting some possibly prophetic dreams spelling out death and destruction.
Wow she’s a busy girl.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the first book in this series, Undeadly. It felt a little too reminiscent of other books I’d read around that time. But I thought Unchosen was a great addition to this series. Molly is finding her feet among those who are gifted with magical powers – and she’s also doing okay coming to terms with the whole half-god thing. She’s growing on me as I can see that she’s growing up and she’s not the same girl in this book as she was in the last. I liked that she’s beginning to see the bigger picture and take responsibility for her role in the upcoming battle.
This book was so quick to read! I’d sad down to read a few chapters and next thing I know it’s a few hours later and I’m finished it! I loved how I was drawn into the story and didn’t want to stop. The ending has me anxiously anticipating the third and final book in this trilogy, Unbroken.
Rath was my favourite character in the first book and I wasn’t as fond of him in this instalment. His relationship with Molly felt a little odd to me – I love the developments but the timing/pacing of it all just felt a little off. I felt a similar way towards all of the secondary characters. Because this book is fairly short and plot wise there’s quite a bit happening, we don’t get all that much character development. I wondered why some characters and some of their info were mentioned but I’m sure that it’ll all make sense in the next book.
Overall – I enjoyed the story. It’s quick, with quite a bit of action and a great take on Egyptian mythology – one that I’m not very familiar with. There’s romance and zombies (how cool are zombie?) and somehow it all comes together to deliver an entertaining story.
'Unchosen' is the exciting second installment in The Reaper Diaries, which continues to follow reaper-in-training/necromancer/world savior Molly Bartolucci. Molly's still trying to grasp the whole prophecy thing that names her as the world's savior along with the fact that she's actually Anubis' daughter. Along with those revelations and distractions is regular teenage things - like school and boyfriends. But things can never be that simple - Molly is still struggling with her feelings for Rath, her reaping instructor and not trying to get into trouble at school. Soon things begin to get out of hand and Molly's family is attacked, leaving her biological father in a coma. Now it's up to Molly to find out who's trying to hurt her family and why. Will she be able to solve everything before it's too late?
This was a fun and thrilling second book in a fantastic YA paranormal series. Molly is an awesome main character. She's strong, witty, smart, and has a lot of attitude. She's also deeply devoted to her family and her destiny - even if she's still trying to come to grips with it all. I enjoyed watching Molly's relationship with Rath develop throughout the book and I hope things will continue in that department in the next book as well. The plot of the story continues to utterly fascinate me. I loved the Egyptian mythology mixed with necromancy, magic, and reapers. It sets the book and the series apart from others like it and breathes fresh air into the genre. I loved continuing to learn as much as I could about the Egyptian mythology, the prophecy, along with all the magic, necromancy, and reaper stuff. It mixes together surprisingly well and definitely kept me captivated throughout the book. There were little snippets from Molly's "Reaper Diary" along with quotes from various books - I thought these were a great glimpse into Molly's character and nicely breaks up each chapter. The writing continued to be very well done with a great pace and a effortless flow. I found myself immediately sucked into Molly's world within the first couple of paragraphs and didn't come up for air until the book was over. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series! Highly recommended for fans of YA fantasy and paranormal fiction!
Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the story that Vail told with this novel, but the typos really ruined it for me. I would have rated the book an A had it not been for those. The plot, pacing, and writing were fantastic, and the characters were fun to read. The world-building continued, and the book itself was really good. If you don't mind typos, you'll fall in love with this novel.
Molly is a fun character with a lot of sarcasm, and I really enjoy reading from her perspective. She deals with things very well, and she grows a lot in this book. Molly really learns what's important in her life, and she learns that she must make sacrifices. I'm happy with the direction in which her character is going. I wish Rath had been more present in this book. He's such an interesting character, and he's good for Molly. I really enjoyed learning more about Barbie, though, and the grandparents are much deeper than I originally thought.
The plot is fast-paced and kept me interested. Vail's writing and descriptions are pretty good, though lacking in some areas. The story itself is a solid one, but the typos really detract from it. Sometimes characters' names were switched. For instance, Vail calls Rath Ralph in one sentence. Also, tenses switch randomly throughout the novel. There are duplicate words, as well, such as "He ran to to the other side of the street." That's not a direct quote from the book, by the way, I'm just giving an example of what was going on. Also, the back of the novel said that the next installment would be out in March of this year, and it's not out. I hope that the third book is released. I have to see what happens next with Molly since this one ends on a cliff hanger. Aside from the typos, I absolutely adored this book, though. I grew to better understand the world that Vail had created, and the characters and plot are evolving naturally. Nothing seemed forced. I really hope there is a third book.
Overall, I'd recommend this book, and series, for people who are looking for something a bit different from your usual necromancer novels. This involves Egyptian mythology, which is a nice touch, and it makes it stand out.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!
This is the first time that I’ve read a story about a reaper. Great and interesting one as well. It’s intriguing how sometimes authors can get such amazing idea and put it so wonderfully on paper. For me the whole process and the story itself it’s fascinating. Michele Vail managed to create a new world, a new concept and it’s written to perfection. Really loved the book! This is the second book, I recommend you read the first one in order to understand the story better. In this one, Unchosen we have Molly Bartolucci a 16 years old girl who has kind of a new life, discovering she is a reaper and unfortunately a zombie maker. Talk about strange powers…She goes to school to become a reaper, she trains hard to be the Chosen Daughter because one day she will lead them all. She is the only daughter of the god Anubis and that put’s some weight on her shoulders. Molly tries to fit in, to find her place among the other reapers and students; she is one determined and tough girl.
Molly allows people into her heart and into her world, until one day her parents get attacked and she realizes someone it’s after her, trying desperately to frame her and get her expelled from school. She doesn’t know who she can trust or not. She has to stay under the radar until all of these things come to an end, and she finds out who it’s out to get her. As if problems weren’t enough, Molly it’s starting to fall in love with her trainer from school, Rath.
I loved this book, and loved Molly and Rath. Our main character it’s wonderful written, she is smart, powerful, strong, witty and has an attitude that fits her perfectly. I loved the little relationship she build with Rath and I hope I have a chance to see more in the next book. The problem is, this book has a little cliffhanger and now I desperately want to know what happens next. Can’t wait! I highly recommend this book, and this series! Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to read this book and to be a part from this tour on Itching for Books.
I received an arc copy of Unchosen from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thanks Michele Vail and FFBC!
I've never understood why someone (or something) can't just tap you on the shoulder and say, "Look, the apocalypse will be here on Tuesday. You might want to get a helmet and a weapon. Tell your friends."
REVIEW
I'm unsure of how I really feel about Unchosen. It was good and I'm glad I got a chance to read it but it definitely had a middle book feel to it. At times it felt rushed and there were parts that in my opinion could have used more depth but were barely talked about. Especially Molly and Rath's relationship, it felt rather lacking of emotion.
Aside from that it was a good read. Molly is told early on that there will be a competition to decide who will be The Champion of Anubis, this upsets Molly for obvious reasons since she is the champion according to Anubis himself. While training she loses touch with her friends, which I was sad to see happen, I really wish they could be more of a team. Henry her ghoul also hints that it's important to find a specific book, Anubis and the Seventh Warrior, which evidently holds clues to Molly's family secrets. There is also somebody that's trying to get to Molly, she gets attacked several times and the person even goes after her bio-dad and family. All of this crap goes down and Anubis is nowhere to be found, what good is having a god for a dad if you can't count on him to help in battle?! There is a crazy discovery at the end of the book and a cliffhanger that leaves you wondering what is going to happen. Like I said I did enjoy reading the book but it left a lot of ends untied, hence the middle book feeling. I predict the final book being AMAZING!
I really liked this book and in most ways I think it was a dramatic improvement on the first novel. The story did not feel as disjointed as the last one, it seemed to flow much better and Vail stuck with the winning combination of necromancy and ancient Egyptian gods that makes these novels such unique and fun reads.
This one was a little shorter than the last novel and it does feel as though Vail is trying to write these at a fast pace. I think if she spent a little more time in some of the slower sections of the novels, for example: more time on training and lessons, or the tests to become Kebechet, these books would just sing! As they are though I don't think they will end up being ground breaking pieces of literature (although the Twilight series seems to be so I'm sure there is hope for all authors).
A note to the editors: DID YOU EVEN EDIT THIS NOVEL??? Soooooo many grammatical errors, and missing words in the middle of sentences, and yes, they are really obvious!!! The last novel by Vail was similarly poorly edited, and I wonder if you even spend the time to try and aid the author in publishing her works. I was actually at the point by the end of the novel where I was ready to get out the red pen and start all over again and send the edited copy to the company and show them what they should have done. Its just frustrating to see something someone has obviously worked hard on to be so poorly edited. *Please note: this is in no way a dig at Vail, simply her editors and publishers for their poor work.* (unless it was self published which I didn't check, in which case you need to have someone look this over before printing).
Regardless of the above issues I think this book will be great for young teenagers who find it difficult to get through a whole novel as they are relatively short books, fast paced and Molly's perspective (main character), is quite witty and entertaining to read from, and many younger readers should be able to relate.
Molly is the chosen one to lead the prophesied war against the god Set, who is now locked up in the underworld. She's keeps having visions of him escaping and that troubles her because she isn't ready to be the warrior everyone expects. The pressure to keep her secret from her friends is weighing heavily on her and as more of her time is designating to train, study and prepare for the Kebuchet challenge, she begins to notice them distancing themselves from her. Molly has so much on her plate between balancing her friendships and her blooming feelings for her trainer Rath; she'd think the gods would give her a break. Yet as her prayers remain unanswered...someone tries to send her a message, they want her dead, now. So many secrets surround her and she must find a way to decipher them before it's too late and all is lost.
I like that Molly isn't the damsel in distress but the hero, well one that's gradually puzzling out the mess that she's inherited from both her parents. She tries hard to keep her composure but it's easy to tell that being a reaper scares her yet she wants to win. Her nemesis Clarissa and her father have it in for her to lose the challenge to become the rightful Kebuchet; however Molly proves that she is a formidable opponent for the title. Her Aunt Leila keeps trying to warn her about impending danger yet she's also bound to Set. Molly has to find a way to save her soul before it's too late. She has to rely on those that she's been neglecting to figure it all out but they are willing to help her discover the truth especially her reaper trainer Rath. He's mysterious and kind of yummy and I'm curious how the romance between the two will work out. Overall, Molly may be a pawn in an impending war but I think she'll figure it out. She's persistent and brave, which makes her an intriguing character.
I think Unchosen was a great follow up book to Undeadly. I really enjoyed the first book but I actually think I enjoyed Unchosen even more! I really liked the way this book was written because it was almost like we were reading Molly’s journal. I also liked that between each chapter there was an entry from Molly’s Reaper Diary and quotes about zombies, reapers, magic and other pieces of information that relates to this book. Molly’s sense of humor was refreshing in a book with reapers, zombies, gods, the Underworld and more. I found myself laughing at some of the things Molly says and does. I liked seeing more of Molly’s friends, her ghoul Henry, her sister Ally, Jon Lemons the zombie, and of course Rath. I must admit I was a bit disappointed that there weren’t more scenes with Rath. I would have liked to have seen more of Molly’s relationship with him.
Unchosen was filled with a lot of mystery. I was glad that by the end many of the questions I had were answered and there were many surprises. I must say the last ten pages or so shocked me because I honestly did not see what was coming. This book leaves you with a cliffhanger and makes you wish that the last book was already available to read! I can’t wait for the next book in this series. If you haven’t already read Undeadly then I think you should so that you can follow along better and understand what is happening in Unchosen. Although, Michele Vail did a very good job catching the readers up with what occurred in the first book. I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely necessary to read Undeadly first but I would recommend it.
After reading the first book, I waited forever for this one to come out. I got it the day it was released and I can't believe I waited forever to get to it! Though life and other requests may have sorta gotten in the way.....oh bookish problems..
Anyway, once I dived it, it was like I never left. Molly is still in school and well who really likes school. She spends time reading some books and getting her butt kicked in training, Then she is called to the people in charge of the school. Where she gets into trouble for having a item that she shouldnt have on school property, or at all in fact. But before anything really happens, in walks her grandparents and a lawyer.
The lawyer is another relative. Her grandparents want her visiting them more just to be safe. She gets chased by a mob of zombies. Her familys business goes up in flames and well things just aren't going so smoothly.
Then the ending was near and well I was very mad at Michele. Like seriously just let me so mad that the next book wasn't in my hands! This whole time I knew Molly shouldn't worry so much since she was the chosen one, and then she is being set into the otherworld on a quest that sorta ruins the competition going on.
Sigh, I really wish you all could see my reaction to this book. Plus I tried real hard not to just write out the entire book, since yeah I loved it that much. So on that note, I will be hunting down book 3!
I enjoyed the story, Michele Vail captivates us with magic and supernatural creatures like - necromancers, ghosts, zombies and reapers while amazing us with Egyptian gods like set, anubis and more! this was truly a tale of wonder!
Molly Bartolucci is the destined leader of Anubis’s Chosen, As the only daughter of the god Anubis she must train and work hard to prove herself worthy of the task. As a student at the school for necromancers, reaper-in-training isn't all it's cracked up to be, but Molly is determined to find her place among the reapers she is meant to lead one day.
when her human family is attacked Molly isn't sure who she should trust, the god set is soon going to break free of his prison after 5000 years and there are many enemies who would love to see him do it. In a race against time, Molly and her friends must face her fate head on or she will be left UNCHOSEN!
I loved the characters in the story@ although the diary entries threw me off at some points I really liked the story! the characters were great and I think Henry was my favourite character! it was so funny how he had no sense of humour but because of it was funny!
if you haven't read this series yet and love a great story with supernatural creatures this is your book! TBR it today!
I am about two-thirds of the way through, but I just had to make a comment. I have never read a book so replete with errors. I know this is self-published, but that doesn't mean you don't have a copy editor, or a friend even, read through to find errors. There's missing punctuation, misspellings, grammatical errors, missing words, and even a bizarre instance of the wrong name being used. Before you call me a grammar Nazi, please know that I proofread for a living, and if she would have just run a spell check, that would have caught about half of them. The errors just keep tripping me up, pulling me out of the story. It's not professional.
I found the first book mildly interesting and thought I would give the second a try. I find it to be choppy and not completely fleshed out. Which leads me to the opinion I have of why she self-published, because it's hard to get an agent with this quality of work.
BUT, I feel the bones of the story are there, and with a little work, she can become a better author over time. I hate writing harsh reviews; authors are people, too, and criticism is never fun. If you're young and want a plain simple read, enjoy. If you're looking for a quality supernatural read, move on to something else.
Unchosen was a very quick read for me, I couldn’t put it down. It was fascinating entering the world of Unchosen and it’s the FIRST reaper story I’ve ever read so for me it was unique and refreshing. When you have magic, reapers, necromancy, zombies, ghouls and more rolled into one book every page is intense!
This is book #2 in The Reaper Diaries series and follows 16 year old Molly and her life as a newly discovered reaper and ……. zombie maker! There’s tons of mystery surrounding Molly and her family and the more you discover about her family, and her abilities the more in love you’ll become with this series. I was laughing at the quick wit and humor and don’t tell anyone but I was teary-eyed as well.
There are quite a few scenes that were written beautifully. I seriously couldn’t imagine Steven ‘freaking’ Spielberg creating a more vivid, gut wrenching scenes in my mind.
You don’t have to read the first book, Undead before you read Unchosen but I recommend that you do. I think the story will flow better that way but that’s my opinion. I feel that way for all series books. I did read Undead too and OMG I can’t wait for the next installment!
Unchosen: (Book 2 the Reaper Diaries) I was given this book by the author exchange for my honest review.
Just when my nights was slowing down I picked up Unchosen by Michele Vail and the magic began… This was a quick and amazing read for me; I could not put it down. After reading book one I was looking forward to seeing where Molly story was heading in this book. The mystery surrounding Molly and her family wasn’t the only thing that I enjoyed about this story, it was a little love, humor and danger all mixed up in one. Ms Vail was able to write a story that brought you the world of the undead, but filled it with humor and love at the same time. I t will give you something to dream about for a long time to come***
The dreamers and the reading room Agree that this is a hit !!! We are riding high with a 5 star rating*****
I like the storyline and the characters are great.
Molly is very funny and sweet. She has an undefined relationship with Rath that isn't properly developed.
I haven't read the first book in the series (Undeadly) but I wasn't confused or lost or anything like that. It was pretty easy to follow and understand.
“You want good advice? If something big, bad, and ugly is chasing you, don’t trip. Dumb ass.” ~Secret History of Reapers, Author Unknown
There's a little action and there's never a boring moment in the book. I couldn't stop reading and I finished in under 2 hours.
There's a big twist and cliffhanger at the end. The next book seems interesting
A great read and is highly recommended. Especially if you're a paranormal fan that's tired of vampires and werewolves.
Maybe I was desperately hoping this series would get better. Unfortunately, if anything, it got worse. Same problems from Book 1 came back with a vengeance. Whiny protaganist. No plot. Confusing events. Awful characters with no development. Poor writing (the kindle edition had a least a word missing or other grammare error every page, but that wasn't even close to the worst of it). Rath and Molly make out every two seconds for no apparent reason, even when they are apparently supposed to be in grave danger, which only expounds upon the feeling already created by the poor writing that these characters are never actually in any real danger since there's no suspense...and even if they were I wouldn't really care anyway!
Unchosen is Book Two of The Reaper Diaries trilogy. I'm assuming that it was rushed to market because of the many spelling and grammatical errors that interfere with the enjoyment of the story. My favorite parts were the quotes from Molly's diary and from the Secret History of Reapers and from various other "sources". The rest of the book tended to be overly tween in language and tone. Despite the limitations of Book Two, I went to Amazon in search of Book Three. I do hate to leave a story unfinished. According to the blurb at the end of this volume, Book Three was due to be released on March 25, 2014. However, it doesn't seem to exist yet. Maybe it is still being proof-read. One can only hope.
The story lost some momentum, but there was character growth, at least for Molly, so I would say it's on par with the first book in overall quality. Molly actually became an endearing character and I really like her witty diary entries. Rath however had no real role in this one, which was kind of annoying. As for the rest of her team of friends, I don't really see their point in the series besides convenient scape goats. It seems like they could almost just be two characters instead of four(?). I don't even know how many there are because that's how pointless they are. Anyway, I'm intrigued enough to keep reading, but I don't see a mind-blowing series in this one, just a simple, fun read.
Molly Bartolucci has been accused of performing illegal magic. She's focusing on paying attention to school - working and training hard. However, it isn't so easy. Her family's been attacked, her real father who happens to be the god Anubis is missing, Molly has to prove herself as the true Chosen and someone's come to collect a favour Molly owes them.
It's written in Molly's point of view. It had everything - romance, mystery, action. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because I thought it was a bit under-developed. I got to the end and thought "that's it?" But overall, it was a really good book.
