Real Change from the World That Fails to the World That Works

Rate this book
Americans don’t just want change this election year, they want real change—but most have no idea where it will come from. Democrats can’t provide it and Republicans won’t. But former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich does. He explains what is wrong with our country and how to solve our problems in his blockbuster new book, Real From the World That Fails to the World That Works. In this no-holds-barred assessment of American politics, Gingrich approaches our nation’s problems with a private-sector mentality and an entrepreneurial spirit, offering commonsense solutions for the issues of today and the challenges of tomorrow. He lambasts both parties for creating a “government of the bureaucrats, by the consultants, and for the special interests” and busts the myth that voters are entrenched in a “red state” vs. “blue state” mentality. Gingrich exposes the Americans are united on almost every important issue. It’s the politicians who drag us into partisan bickering and away from real change.

Newt Gingrich is well-known as the architect of the “Contract with America” that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time in forty years. After he was elected Speaker, he disrupted the status quo by moving power out of Washington and back to the American people. Under his leadership, Congress passed welfare reform, the first balanced budget in a generation, and the first tax cut in sixteen years. In addition, the Congress restored funding to strengthen defense and intelligence capabilities, an action later lauded by the bipartisan 9/11 Commission.

Today Newt Gingrich is a Fox News contributor. He is a Senior Advisor at Dentons, the world’s largest law firm with more than 6,500 lawyers in 50 countries and offices in more than 125 cities. He advises the firm’s world-class Public Policy and Regulation practice. He is also a Senior Scientist at Gallup.

From May 2011 to May 2012, Newt Gingrich was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States, winning the South Carolina and the Georgia primaries. The campaign was especially notable for its innovative policy agenda, its effort to bring new coalitions into the Republican fold, and for Newt’s debate performances. His $2.50 a gallon energy plan set off a nationwide discussion about the use of America’s energy resources.
But there is a lot more to Newt Gingrich than these remarkable achievements. As an author, Newt has published twenty-nine books including 14 fiction and nonfiction New York Times best-sellers.
Non-fiction books include his latest, Breakout, in addition to A Nation Like No Other, Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny, To Save America, Rediscovering God in America, 5 Principles for a Successful Life, Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less, Real Change, A Contract with the Earth, Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America, To Renew America, Lessons Learned the Hard Way, Saving Lives & Saving Money, Window of Opportunity, and The Art of Transformation. He is also the author of a series of historical fiction books including, Gettysburg, Grant Comes East, Never Call Retreat: Lee and Grant the Final Victory, 1945, Pearl Harbor, Days of Infamy, To Make Men Free, To Try Men’s Souls, Valley Forge, and Victory at Yorktown. These novels are active history studies in the lessons of warfare based on fictional accounts of historical wartime battles and their aftermaths. His latest novel, Treason, is the sequel to Duplicity and is a thriller of Washington intrigue and international terrorism.

Newt and his wife, Callista, host and produce historical and public policy documentaries. Recent films include The First American, Divine Mercy: The Canonization of John Paul II, A City Upon A Hill, America at Risk, Nine Days That Changed The World, Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny, Rediscovering God in America, Rediscovering God in America II: Our Heritage, and We Have the Power.

In his post-Speaker role, Newt has become one of the most highly sought-after public speakers, accepting invitations to speak before prestigious organizations throughout the world. Because of his own unquenchable thirst for knowledge, Newt is able to share unique and unparalleled insights on a wide range of topics. His audiences find him to be not only educational but also inspirational. For more information about Newt’s speaking engagements, please visit the Worldwide Speakers Group.

Widely recognized for his commitment to a better system of health for all Americans, his leadership in the U.S. Congress helped save Medicare from bankruptcy, prompted FDA reform to help the seriously ill and initiated a new focus on research, prevention, and wellness. 4.5 stars. Let me begin by saying that Newt Gingrich is my favorite current political figure and so my review of this book definitely comes from the standpoint of someone who is "drinking the kool-aid" so to speak. I agree with many (though not all) of Newt's ideas and so he had a very friendly audience in me. That said, I thought this was an excellent book that outlines a number of very promising ideas that are worth considering from taxes, to social security, to the judiciary, to education reform and Health care.

I do have one significant gripe with the book and it is one that I find in almost every "political" book that I come across (both conservative and liberal). Even as a conservative, I really dislike the negative rhetoric/attacks about "liberals" and "democrats" because I think it infuses the legitimate argument/position with too much "noise" and makes people you are trying to persuade tune out because they feel like they are being attacked. It also, in my opinion, raises the question of whether the argument itself is compelling enough if it needs to be supported by attacking the other side. It was not as bad in this book as it has been in some others (probably because the "ideas" were enough to carry the message) but I still feel compelled to call it out.

That said, loved the book, loved many of the ideas and think it a worthy addition to the political dialogue moving forward.

This book talks about a wide varity of political issues concerning America today and some conservative solutions to them.
It is quite interesting how it seems like America is very evenly divided. But if you take a close look, America agrees on many issues. The majority of Americans don't support seperation of church and states, support making the english language the American language, think social security is broken, support a flat tax, support drilling offshore, and support nuclear energy. Clearly, America is a conservative country and if we just open our eyes and look around us, we would realize our similarities and get things done.

Newt is someone who looks at a situation and can see something is wrong and then he figures out how to fix it. He is a real problem solver. You might not agree with everything he says, but you should be able to he is right about the problems in our country and Washington. I think he has good ideas. So many politicians do things not to fix things and make our country better, but to please the groups that give them money. Even when the politicians are trying to be compassionate, they need to be judged on results not their intentions.

Best political book I've read so far. Rather than just bashing on the democrats, offers real ideas and backs them up with research to support the solutions and that the American public supports the ideas. Really shows why he was able to engineer the republican takeover of congress, why the republicans are in the position that they are now and what needs to happen for the republican party and intelligent caring democrats as well.

Twenty years ago, I would have never thought that I would live to see the day when I would think that Newt Gingrich had anything interesting to say. HA. I am glad that I have grown up. This is a really great read and I wish that everyone in D.C. was required to read it. As the books shows, not all problems that need to be solved have to be politically divisive. I would classify it as "moderate-right" in its political leanings, but there are good ideas in here regardless of your "Party".

I flew through this book. It is the first book in a long time where I went back the following day and wrote notes. There are many interesting topics and entries in this book that I do not want to forget. Especially the constant references to great leadership in the first half of the book. I highly recommend this book to both conservatives and liberals. I would love to see Newt on the Republican ticket in 2012.

A good read. This book states much of the material that Newt Gingrich has covered in his speeches and in the presentations on American Solutions. For those who are not aware of what American Solutions is this book is a good primer. This book also focuses on what it will take to save America: Real Change. Mr. Gingrich does not advocate changing the ideas and principles our country was founded on, but on the policies for implementing those ideas and principles. It is the policies and the resulting bureaucracies that need to be overhauled, not merely band-aided. Especially worth reading on the chapters on the inabilities of the parties to change as they currently are and on the failures in Iraq.

The statistics quoted throughout the book made a big impression on me. If we listen to the media, we believe that we are a hopelessly divided country. Yet the polling done by Gingrich's organization shows that on almost all of the major issues facing the nation today, there is consensus, often 70%-80% or more agreement. We should be solving the problems we agree on and get the government working.

Tons of great statistics in this book, most of which I found myself surprised by. Newt talks at length about the problems facing America today and how he believes we should best approach those problems. In my opinion he delivers a fairly balanced set of ideas, too bad no one appears to be listening....

This book is a must for any ignorant citizen who has no substantial knowledge to the way government impacts our society and culture and country. This man has so much knowledge and insight...it is amazing. It is so refreshing to read someone speak about current events and correlate the effects and history of how big government handles our lives...as well as what those things mean for the future.

Another airport book for the political season. I don't always agree with his prescription (tax incentives for everything?), but his common sense look at some of our political system's failings, especially education and NASA, are eye opening and should make us wonder about campaign promises.

Great book, and explains the patently obvious Bush Adm failure over the last few years, and that the tactic of the conservatives must be a call to what is right and not try to moderate the message. Currently reading. Good politico read.

Absolutely phenomenal book. Anyone who has drank the Obama cool-aid and was tricked into thinking he brings "change" needs to read this book, Newt (one of the great ones) discuss what real change would be and how average Americans can effect this change.

a lot of very down to earth logical solutions to today's real world issues - some of his solutions are progressive (big government) in nature and I am not for that but all in all its worth the price and your time to read

I found I agreed with 80% of his recommendations for changing America. I figure the chances of his program being adopted are about equal to his chances of being elected president. In other words, ain't going to happen. Too bad. It might save the country from ruin,

A positive tone on business-friendly approaches to government reform. If I trusted business to run my life I might be swayed.

I was bored to tears when I read this book. There's no doubt Gingrich is a smart man, but that doesn't necessarily translate into being a compelling author.

Newt has a tremendously innovative mind, however I believe he contributes the most on the sidelines generating ideas. I'm afraid he believes in big government managed effectively, an oxymoron.
