"Good stories are as rare as flawless, high carat gemstones." -The Collector

Zachary, abused for years by his adoptive parents, finally runs away. He knows he's safer on his own than in their so-called care. Homeless and desperate for money so he can put down a deposit for an apartment, he decides to sell the antique garnet ring his parents received from the mysterious Messenger at Zachary's birth.

Zohar Zyngold is crown prince of Zelaria, a world very similar to Earth in a parallel dimension. On his twenty-fifth birthday, during the traditional ceremony, the antique garnet ring his father passed on to him starts emitting an intense red light. Only finding the bearer of the matching ring that has been located on Earth will allow him to fully control his new paranormal powers. Using some of them to cross into Earth's dimension, he masquerades as a jeweler, hoping to attract the ring's owner.

Zachary and Zohar are not only attracted to each other when they first meet, their rings emit a deep red light when they touch. Zachary gets scared and runs, but criminals attack him...and Zohar when he tries to help. They flee to Zelaria to discover that their problems have only just begun…

I’m a night owl and start writing when everyone else in my time zone is asleep. I’ve loved reading all my life and spent most of my childhood with my nose buried in a book. Although I always wanted to be a writer, financial independence came first. Twenty-some years and a successful business career later I took some online writing classes and never looked back.

Living and working in eight countries has taught me that there is more than one way to get things done. It has instilled tremendous respect for the many different cultures, beliefs, attitudes, and preferences that exist on our planet.

I like exploring those differences in my stories, most of which happen to be romances. My characters have a tendency to want to do their own thing, so I often have to rein them back in. The one thing we all agree on is the desire for a happy ending.

I currently live in Canada, sharing my house with a vast collection of books. I like reading, traveling, spending time with my nieces and listening to classical music. I have a passion for science and learning new languages.

The introduction to the 'Gemstone Chronicles' by Serena Yates provides an intriguing glimpse of what promises to be a unique and original series. Instead of one story, it's several very special stories accumulated and immortalized. As in any accumulation, it holds a special significance to the person collecting it; the Gemstone Chronicles collection is no exception. The Collector, in this particular case, is guided and aided by others who help develop and maintain an extraordinary story collection. The chronicles begin with him choosing his first story, 'The Garnets of Destiny'.

“A love for a gem, I could not deny, until I saw the ones in your eyes...The greatest treasure yet stands; the day you put your heart in my hands.” ~ Gabriel Finn

Both Zachary and Zohar, of 'The Garnets of Destiny' by Serena Yates, are searching for something to make them feel complete. Zohar knows he's looking for his bondmate, but Zachary doesn't, yet they both yearn for the passion and affection found only with one's true love.

Zachary Williams won my support immediately. It's obvious that Zachary has a good heart and, even after being abused, still has a great capacity for loving and being loved. After all he's endured, he allows himself to learn how to trust and open his heart to Zohar. I truly respect him for getting himself away from a very harmful situation and trying to be independent and learning to survive however he could. Even though it never afforded the protection that his parents promised it would, Zachary clings to the garnet ring as long as he can because it was the last remnant of his bond with his mother and father and he so much wants to believe that it can offer him protection and guidance.

Zohar is a charming young man, not at all vain or pretentious. He is quite gracious, especially for a prince. Fortunately, he has loving, sensible parents who are wonderful and down to earth. Zohar follows their examples and treats everyone with respect. When he sees Zachary, he strongly suspects that he's 'the one'. Zohar is a man of action and it almost kills him to restrain his youthful enthusiasm sexual and otherwise; but, true to his nature, Zohar endears himself to Zachary and proves to be a complete gentleman, respecting Zachary as a person and understanding his completely reasonable sense of distrust.

The first tale in the 'Gemstone Chronicles' is an endearing love story, endowed with marvelous, well-developed characters, but it also has its dark side, featuring malicious villains with hidden political agendas fueled by discrimination, prejudice, and greed. Zohar and Zachary are such gentle, strong men. They're a great example of how a committed relationship should be. Zohar and Zachary have such love and respect for each other. I loved how they always put each other first. Their abiding faith in each other plays a huge part in surmounting the obstacles put in their way. Their love is sweet and gentle and their decision to wait for intimacy until they are bonded is refreshing. When they do come together, their passion is deep, hot, and long lasting.

I'm excited about this new series and look forward to seeing which stories the Collector picks. I'd recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a romance which develops slowly, is sweet and sure, combined with angst, intrigue, mystery, and good prevailing over bad. Thanks so much, Serena, for creating such a unique and informative story. I'm standing at the Collector's door just waiting for him to pick the next story!

What a fascinating beginning to a new series by Serena Yates. The concept of a special few individuals becoming The Collector when they die and making use of The Observer, The Messenger, and The Explorer to create a collection to enjoy throughout eternity was absolutely intriguing and I give kudos to the author for the idea and the tale. It was my luck that this Collector wanted good love stories on par with very rare gemstones, as both seem difficult to find.

Zachary was so very easy to love right from the beginning. Young, homeless, a runaway from an abusive adopted home, vulnerable and sweet, Zachary just brought out all of my protective instincts. I wanted to wrap him in a blanket and cuddle him. Zohar was fun, sexy, sweet, loving, loyal and a protector. He was just the man Zachary needed as a true life partner. For the first time in his life, Zachary felt safe being near a man. And, Zohar found his true purpose in life - loving Zachary.

The mystery, fairy tale, science fiction story regarding the garnet ankh rings and the Dark War on Zelaria was so much fun to read. The thought that at one point, paranormal abilities existed in a society and people with the right psychic genes could use gemstones in unusual ways, struck me as a total "it could happen" which just made me enjoy it even more. The fact that the Dark War ended all of that and genocide existed against the individuals with abilities, which led to a rebuilding of their entire society in a much more technological manner, was a good mystery to my mind and kept me reading to get more information. When Zohar puts the ring on his finger on his twenty-fifth birthday, per Zelarian custom, it responds to him and begins actively seeking his bond mate, something the ring hasn't done in millennia. That's what sends him to Earth, in a parallel dimension, and how he meets Zachary.

Zachary was so adorable when he first got to Zelaria. He charmed everyone even without having a clue what he was doing! Of course his newly awakened paranormal abilities freaked him out but I thought they were funny. This wouldn't be a mystery without some bad guys up to no good, some kidnapping, some enslaved prisoners, and some great action adventure to round it all out. And, of course, a hero rescue from one true mate to the other!

What a wonderful beginning to a new series. I really enjoyed the whole story and now am looking forward to reading the next in the collection. Thank you, Serena!

Same content, new cover: out today at Diversity Novels, and a new beginning for the Gemstone Chronicles. If you missed buying it before, maybe you're willing to give it a go now?

It is the first book in a series called "Gemstone Chronicles". This volume sets up the whole idea of the Gemstone Chronicles in a Prologue and Epilogue - together they are a separate storyline, like a frame that surrounds the individual stories. Within that frame, you then have Zachary and Zohar's adventure:

Zachary, abused for years by his adoptive parents, finally runs away. He knows he's safer on his own than in their so-called care. Homeless and desperate for money so he can put down a deposit for an apartment, he decides to sell the antique garnet ring his parents received from the mysterious Messenger at Zachary's birth.

I really hope you will like this book, and the ones that will follow over the next few months. You can find it at Diversity Novels for now, and I will add various third party sites (like amazon, All Romance, and Kobo) over the next few weeks.

Enjoy!

Serena

This book was disappointing. The characters were not well-developed, the plot was shallow, and the quality of the writing was low. I would not recommend it.

Well, this is great start to what looks to be a brilliant collection of 12 stories. Zachary is living on the streets, he ran away from his abusive adoptive parents four years before, and now he is desperate. he decides to sell the ring that he got from his natural parents before they died and meets Zohar, who both scares him and makes him feel safe. Zohar travelled to Earth to find the match to his Garnet ring and his bond-mate, when he finally meets Zachary he’s delighted that he is his bond-mate as well as the owner of the matching Garnet ring. when they flee to Zelaria to escape the men after Zachary, they discover much more than they thought possible.

This is a brilliant story that gives a great background to the Collector, his purpose and the men who work with him. Zohar and Zachary are characters in a story written for the Collector, but are they? Or are they real people, in real worlds, living their lives for the benefit of the Collector’s story? I can’t answer that question, but what I can answer is that this is like a story inside a story. We have the story of the Collector and the Chroniclers, and the Chroniclers are the ones who create what the Collector wants. Do they manipulate time, space, people and places to create the stories? Or do they write the story which is then enacted? I really couldn’t tell you, but we get to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Zachary and Zohar meet in awkward circumstances with Zachary being forced to sell his Garnet ring. Zohar knows the basics of what to expect when he meets Zachary, but he is still unsure of what will happen. Zachary is very wary of men. His experience has led him to believe that big men like to use their fists. So when he first meets Zohar, he is frightened by the feelings the bigger man invoke. Zohar has a lot to explain to Zachary, but circumstances force his hand and he has to take Zachary to his home world… and that’s the beginning of their adventure.

So, have I confused you all enough now *snicker* good! So this story has left me wanting more (Amethysts of Wisdom hurry up and get published). Because this one had sweet gentle love, a slower courtship, political intrigue, danger, persecution, physic powers, a kidnapping, a great rescue and some hot sweet loving. This story is really well written and has a fantastic plot, (I am intrigued to see what the rest of the series will be). Great characters and a softer romance, with more getting to know each other and less sex.Did I mind the less sex? Well, no. Not really. Because the sex scene that we do get means all the more for their love, because they did wait *sigh* so romantic.

I am going to recommend this to those who want a sweet gentle love story with danger, hot sex, political intrigue, with dimensional travel to alternative worlds, with physic abilities and a happy ending. Honestly this story is enjoyable and unique, I highly recommend it.

Out today, on August 4, 2012, this is the first book in a series called "Gemstone Chronicles". The series is based on an idea that has been with me for over 5 years, in fact some of these stories have existed as short novellas before, had been submitted and rejected back then. But the idea wouldn't let me go.

So, a few months ago I decided to tackle this "job" again and am very happy to say that the resulting first novel is far better (in my own humble opinion, of course) than the original version. The ideas have expanded to the extent that there is now a whole Garnet World and a few sequels to Zachary and Zohar's story are sure to follow.

This first book sets up the whole idea of the Gemstone Chronicles in a Prologue and Epilogue - together they are a separate storyline, like a frame that surrounds the individual stories.

You can find it at Silver Publishing as of today, and on third party sites as of next week, I believe.

This was an interesting start to an new series. I liked the way that the prologue introduced us to the ideas of the series before the romance itself began. I enjoyed watching Zachary and Zohar puzzle out the mystery of their matching rings and dealing with those people who weren't happy about what their union would mean. The next story sounds exciting too so I can't wait for that!

I had fun reading this little romance with a touch of Fantasy and Paranormal. I would like to connect with the author and understand why the need for the understory though.
