Need to change your husband? Change your sheets. Want to change jobs? Change your sheets. Long for a new life? Just change your sheets.
God uses our life experiences to shape us. When the friction of frustration chaffs the skin, God offers us respite and rest. For author Cindy Sproles, sleeping on worn-out sheets meant holding on to the past, but new sheets...new sheets marked a fresh start. The slate wiped clean. Crisp. Fresh. New. With each monumental event in her life, she tossed out the old and ushered in the new with a set of fresh new sheets. From the cheapest muslin to the most expensive Egyptian cotton, she saw how God was shaping her into the woman she needed to be.
When the road is tough, veer off and step onto a path that is tried and true. One already walked, already blazed, and already prepared just for you. New Sheets - Thirty Days to Refine You into the Woman You Can Be, is a series of thirty transparent devotions and inspirational thoughts that welcome you, wrap you tight and snuggle you in encouragement. The next time you long for a change...go for new sheets.
A portion of the proceeds from every copy of New Sheets sold will be given to Hope House, a place to help young, unwed pregnant moms choose life. Hope House helps with housing, job skills training, parenting skills, teaching the love of Christ and encouraging life.
I bought this book at a writing conference after meeting author Cindy K. Sproles. Cindy taught a class I took on writing devotions. I was interested to see her writing style and how she compiled her book of devotions. As a new writer, I had a lot to learn. Intrigued by her writing style, I read New Sheets in an entire setting.
Cindy's writing style is story-like. It easily draws the reader in and keeps their attention as life lessons unfold between the pages. The life lessons are lessons that we all can relate to. The symbol of new sheets is the string that connects the devotions through each phase of Cindy's life. From starting over after a divorce, through changing life circumstances, and finally into remarriage, new sheets symbolize putting the past behind and moving ahead with a brand new start.
I recently reread New Sheets as a daily devotion and enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. I would highly recommend this book.
The back cover indicates this is a good book for women who have been hurt through divorce or broken relationships. Having never been married, I wasn't sure what to expect. I am wonderfully surprised that it is just as applicable to me as it would be to anyone else. Cindy uses her personal experiences to share how God gets in the mud with us to help build us back up. She uses bedsheets as a symbol for change and growth. This thirty day devotional is a great book for anyone who needs reminding of God's love for us, and His plans to carry us through if we let Him.
I read this entire devotional in three sittings...I couldn't wait to read the next devotion. The honesty and transparency of the author made me feel like I was conversing with a friend. Wonderful truths shone through each story...the author doesn't sugarcoat the realities of life...but she clearly portrays the beautiful, personal relationship we all can have with God.
I'm not one to get all gushy over a book for women but I AM a big fan of getting up, dusting off your backside, and starting over. If I was a gal, I'd love this book. But since I'm just a guy I only understood about a quarter of what I read. Still the parts that made sense moved me. Not enough to get me to start buying sheets and making up my bed, but then it's a book, not a magic wand.
I loved this encouraging little book, New Sheets. In it, Cindy Sproles shared...well, not only shared, she bared her soul about struggles and obstacles she's encountered along the journey of life.
The new sheets she purchases at each crossroads or change in her life, later serve as a reminder of how far she's come and attest to the faithfulness of a loving God.
