This was an amazing read. Not only does Dr. Oswalt offer solid biblical teaching but brings powerful application as well. His premise is that God didn't just want to free the Israelites from physical bondage and spiritual bondage but he wanted to dwell with them. It wasn't enough that God would speak to Moses from the mountain. God wanted to live right in the middle of his people. This is a lovely book about holiness and how God redeems us so that he can live in us.
"The Exodus occurred so that God could come home! Ever since Genesis 3, God had been finagling a way to come home. As that first couple went down that briar-strewn path toward the angels with flaming swords, the devil said, 'Admit it, God. I have beaten you. You made them for love and fellowship but you can never have fellowship with them again. Sin has made them filthy, rotten, defiled. So eat your hear out. I have defeated you.' But God said, 'Satan, this is not over. The story has just begun.' The rest of the Bible is about God's coming home to the human heart, God's taking up residence among us."(page 15).

This is an awesome book. It is written in narrative order, but Oswalt provides an excellent means of synopsis while weaving the story together with additional details. This book would be a great read for a Christian. I used it in weekly preparation for my Sunday School class and it provided great insights into the story, much of which I would have missed without the text.

Great book! Definitely needs more eyes on it.
