A decent read for a kindle freebie, but the plot dragged and became predictable about halfway through. The characters stayed stubborn, some of the writing got steamy, the usual conflicts ensued. It passed the time, but I grew bored with the characters' alternating pride and doubt standing in their way.

Spoiler below!

One thing that really annoyed me is that right after Katie and Christopher make up following the housewarming party, she reveals that she is certain she is pregnant, yet she had not worried about this at all prior to that night. When she was going through so much relationship instability and turmoil, I found it hard to believe that something so major as a pregnancy would have remained ignored in the storyline until that night. It seemed like an afterthought to have the story written so that once the couple was happy again, hey look! Baby on the the way.

It is quite hard to rate this book. I like the plot and overall idea of the story and the book started off well, dragged on to boring with certain interesting scenes and ended nicely. Even though this is a historical fiction, sometimes I felt as if I am reading a contemporary book instead. I think the book will earned an extra star if the story doesn't drag so long on and the author kept putting more problems into their relationship when one is resolved.

Nice story, and interesting characters with some depth, but IMO, the writing style was a little too juvenile for me.

I don't think I will read this author again.

Good storyline and characters, well written. Plot with different twists and an ending with closure rather than a cliffhanger.
