This novella-size thriller is brought to you by the author of the Mystic Saga, One Crazy Summer, Daylight in Blossom, and Saving Brooksie.
A group of terrorists have stormed the party center at The Meadowbrook Retirement Village. Their demands are simple – one of their hostages needs to make restitution for a life cut short sixty years ago. But how could this gentle, upstanding, retired pastor have anything to do with someone else’s death? According to one of the terrorists, this particular resident of Meadowbrook has been concealing a plethora of secrets for a very long time now and it’s time to get those out for the whole world to see – perhaps even on live television.

This author's words are both strong and full of promise. Such perfect stories, especially for those times when you need a reminder or even just a little lift. I've read both odd this books stories several times and each time I enjoy them-I also seen tho get something new out of them each time. I highly recommend this book for several reasons just one off which is because it's such a great read! I believe this it's the kind of book total want to give to friends and strangers alike. I believe it's the kind off book we purchase for our personal home library so we can re-read it as the need and desire arise. Yes-get this book. It will be one of your best investments.
I am very often pleased with the things McElhaney puts on the table for us to read. One of my favorite series is the Mystic Saga, and Mommy's Choice remains a haunting and memorable novel for me. However, I guess the "theme" just didn't hit home for me here. It wasn't any part of the author really, just didn't connect for me. The story was fairly tightly wound and the plot was interesting. However, it was too short for me to really get to know the characters. Yes, I know that Mr. McElhaney stated his reasons for making it short, but I think getting to know the characters would have helped my liking for this a lot more. Not a ton longer, but enough so maybe we could get to know John before the hostage situation? Maybe nothing really about his true identity, but his person.
Anyway, more or less, I liked it and I definitely don't feel like I wasted my time or anything. It was a solid fairly decent book.
Better than I expected. John is a man who has a mysterious past and the terrorists who took over the rec center of the senior home intend on bringing that past out. The story takes place in one location for much of the story, making the mental story easy to follow and probably easy to film if ever made into a movie. This fact alone is why I believe it was possible to keep it under a hundred pages without losing any of the fun and the readability/enjoyment. I rate it 5 stars and recommend it to fans of thrillers, mysteries, and DaVinci Code type novels
Great read and keeps you interested the whole time. The story of a man who is holding onto a portion of his family history that really upsets him. He goes after the man who he believes is responsible, but his investigations into the man leads him to some incredible discoveries that he feels should be brought to the surface. A real thinker of a novel.
This story was very intriguing and fast paced. Also had a twist that I didn't catch onto until about 3/4 in. I couldn't put it down and look forward to more from this author.
