What if, hundreds of years from now, scientists invent a time machine? Wouldn't it be nice if someone used it to send you a winning lottery combination that would make you a multimillionaire?

After winning a four-hundred-million dollar jackpot with the numbers he received from the future, Ted Duplass is as happy as can be. He buys a house in an upscale neighborhood, a luxury car, a Rolex watch, and a whole bunch of other things he couldn't afford before. Life is great.

The fun stops when Ted learns that he's going to be murdered by the end of the year. Fortunately, he knows the name of the killer.

The question is: how much luck does he have left?

I read Dark Luck not realizing that it was a short story, and it didn't feel like a short story either. The two subject matters, winning the lottery and time travel, are both things that most people have thought about and it fit into this story really nicely. I really enjoyed the idea and it was written in a way that drew me in and didn't let go. It played on the craziness of the idea and also allows that crazy to be part of the story; there was no need to be skeptical yourself as there were well written characters doing it for you.

The only real complaint that I have is that I (again) didn't realize it was only a short story and there was so much further it could have gone. I was really excited when the action was happening and I thought it was only 1/3 complete, then it just suddenly ended and left me a little upset because I wanted more!

What a gem of a story with “Dark Luck” With an intriguing story line that captivates your interest with possibilities. The great idea from Ted to take care of generations of his family ended up being not so lucky after all. I loved the idea of leaving a message in time but after Ted’s results I think I’ll pass! I enjoyed it immensely as it kept me thinking long after I read the story. Bonus stories like the Hitchhiker, where 2 serial killers just happen to meet on the road, Sixus and Days of Vengeance were great reads also to bring terror to your hearts.

I read the Dark Luck short story. Apparently the author filled this book with a few other short stories as well. Being that the short story was not written very well and ended so abruptly I decided not to go forward to read the others. The story could have been good if the author had given some more time and had really finished the story correctly. The idea was spectacular but was just too quick and lacked details and explanations.

I did not realize this book was multiple separate stories in one book. I read the first book which was silly, sci-fi, a simple read. However, it ended odd. I was not happy with the the way the reader wrote this story ... could be a cute idea, but needed something more. I did not read the rest of the book. This was a free book I downloaded ...

Not very good. The writing left much to be desired. The stories start off well but fall apart at the end, or just end. The titled story ends abruptly and you're left to guess what happens, how it ended. I'm glad this was a freebie!

Barely bareable. This could have been so much more. Instead it was disjointed and fragmented developments that needed better plotting rather than just happening.

Could have been a good book but ended up as a collection of short stories that aren't very well written and just end abruptly. Good thing it was a freebie.
