This is the third book in the City Wolves series and in my opinion the best so far. Ms. Holly takes up the action and suspense a notch and leads the reader on a merry chase as the war between Gabriel and Ethan's packs comes to a head.
Readers who love a friends-to-lovers angle will enjoy Victor and Farrell's relationship as they cross that line and go from best friends to lovers. My only pet peeve about that plot point was that Victor and Farrell agreed for a no-strings, friends-with-benefits deal, yet like three days later are telling Ethan they are "boyfriends." I thought the jump was too quick. But readers of Insta-Love will enjoy it.
However, I did the love the dynamics of the pack war. It was refreshing to have some action in a romance novel (you can't read about sex, sex, sex, all the time. *g*). And a few intriguing twists about Farrell's background, leads to a very interesting novel. I am happy to say that as this series progresses, it gets better and better...so looking forward to the next installment.
Reviewed by Stacy Jo: This third installment in J.C. Holly’s City Wolves series starts with the war between Gabriel and Ethan’s packs going strong. Gabriel is bent on taking Ethan’s territory, his bar, and everything dear to him, and he will do everything in his power to get what he wants, including sneaky, sleazy, underhanded tactics. No amount of Gabriel’s desperate attempts: kidnapping, torture, and flat-out rule breaking, is enough to overtake Ethan and win all that he wants.
While Gabriel and his minions are causing terror, Victor and Farrell, two longtime friends and members of Ethan’s pack, are getting to know each other better. They have liked each other since they first met but have never acted on their feelings for fear of messing up their friendship. One night after Farrell is hurt, Victor helps him and things change between them. We also learn there is more to Farrell than meets the eye, although Farrell wants to keep this information quiet.
The relationship between Victor and Farrell was very much a friends-to-lovers story and seemed a natural progression for them. They made a very nice couple. It’s not hot and heavy as far as sex goes, as it’s more plot driven. That’s not to say these two aren’t hot together, because they are. Meanwhile, Ethan devises a plan to handle the problem with Gabriel so I’m wondering where the story is going to go from here. Is it done or will Gabriel find a way to become a problem again? This story was a good one but nothing really new, as far as the war goes, happened from the last ones. Gabriel pretty much employs the same tactics for the most part. Despite that, it is a good series if you like werewolves.

I won’t go into a long monologue telling you what Pack War is all about, since the blurb for the book does an excellent job of explaining the premises of book 3 in the City Wolves series, and besides, I hate spoiling things for other readers. Sadly, book 3 is the first book I’ve read in the series, and haven’t had the chance to read books 1 or 2, but I will, just so I gain the overall picture of where this series started from.
