High-points: In My Dreams is well-paced, a great thing in any novel. Most of the time, descriptions (especially of landscape) were atmospheric and breath-taking. Liz as a heroine irritated me in the same way that Bella (of Twilight Saga fame) did, so perhaps people who love Bella will also love Liz? That has to be a good thing – there are a lot of Bella lovers out there!

Hell-pits: Scattered mistakes like, “In the olden days, I’d probably be burned at the stake, or hung.” – washing is hung out to dry, people are sentenced to be hanged until dead. “I’d probably have been” might have been nice, too.

Review: This book would definitely benefit from a thorough edit (especially to cut down on/destroy the repetitive …s). There are times when it feels like there was once a perfectly usual sentence, but then the author clicked for thesaurus options and went with one of those instead: an early example is, “Vociferous cackles resonated like wicked hyenas seeking their prey.”. I just don’t think that a teenage girl who says “super-hot” would also think about "vociferous cackles” resonating, so voice is definitely an issue. This is true, in small ways, throughout the book – characters seem to slip out of themselves and their expected voices into a one-size-fits-all tone. It’s disconcerting.

The novel is current – there are references to The Apprentice (“You’re fired!”) and other television shows – but the language lags. Landscape descriptions, however, are beautifully atmospheric.

I really wanted to like this book (not least because the main characters, Elizabeth and Michael, share names with myself and my husband) but it falls short of where it could reach. The novel’s premise of ghostly contact with the living seemed to bring nothing that hasn’t been explored before (on television, in film, and in novels) and the aspects of light and dark, good and evil, seem like they could have been highlighted more.

There are great books and then there are books like this that are so unbelievably amazing that they stand out even amongst the greats. A book so good that when you finally turn that last page you feel like it changed a little piece of you and will stay with you forever. It wrapped itself around my heart and for that I would like to thank you Cameo. I have not felt such strong emotion for a set of characters in a very long time...if ever. She truly has a real gift bringing her characters to life, and if In My Dreams is any indicator of whats to come in Cameo's books I certainly can not wait to read more! In my opinion if you like to read YA or even if you don't you ABSOLUTELY need to read this book.

***Spoiler Alert****
So I cried through out most of this book. The love that was shared between Lizzy and Michael was one for the books!!! Have you ever read a book and feel like your heart is in your throat because the love one shares with another is so surreal, that it takes your breath away?? I felt like that through this whole story, it was so heartening when Michael was taken away from Lizzy, that I could only imagine the pain she was feeling. In My Dreams was an amazingly written story by Cameo Renae, you really felt for the characters, you could relate with them and not only did you share their feelings but Cameo made you feel compassion for them as well. I can't wait for the sequel to be released next year, I will definitely be reading it and I highly recommend you read In My Dreams, especially if you love books with angels and romance.

Michael and Lizzy's friend Tyler gets into some trouble and when Michael comes to help him out, he ends up dead. And now his killer is after Lizzy, and Michael is determine to keep her safe no matter what the cost.

Lizzy and Michael are have been dating for 4 years now and have known each other for a long time. When Michael is murdered, it just about takes everything Lizzy has to fight his killer and save not only herself but her friends as well.

I really don't want to share too much more and give away too many more spoilers, but you have to read this book, I promise you wont be disappointed!!

Elizabeth is a young girl who waits for her boyfriend, but little did she know how her life will change after a dream... Founding out that Michael, her boyfriend, and her best friend is dead, devastated her. But what happens when love defeats death? Michael's spirit communicates with Elizabeth and she discovers that her boyfriend's death wasn't an accident...

”In my dreams” is that kind of book that has those twist and turns in a paranormal way, but it focuses on relationships, love and friendship. I can say it has that murder/mystery style, with a sad atmosphere. It's a fast-passed book, with great description and a story that can break your heart. I admire that it didn't had the typical dark villain, in this case it's a realistic one. The main character was interesting to imagine, with her experiences and heavy life. You can compare this to the hit-series Ghost whisperer, but that's not a bad thing, because the book has a surprising story filled with action and love, with a satisfying ending/twist.
Thank you Renae for sending me this book!

Let me just start off by saying that this novel is a love story. There is no denying that and if you are heading into it thinking there isn’t any, you are highly mistaken. But because it is a love novel, I seemed to have read it in a sort of biased way. And as much as I tried ignoring the love moments and focusing on what was going on, there were parts where I groaned and sighed because I couldn’t take it. So for that I am not going to review it as a love novel and take a different route and focus more on the story and what revolved around it.

In My Dreams is about a girl named Lizzy who has this strange occurrence of dreaming about death. The strange part about it is that she is seeing the death play out as it happens in real life. It begins with Lizzy in a dream witnessing the death of her boyfriend Michael and from their it unfolds. The premise of the story really caught my attention, I wanted to see how Lizzy dealt with these “premonitions” you would say, and how she reacted towards them. Unfortunately we don’t get to see much of these premonitions as it begins with her boyfriends death and continues from there.

The novel continues with Lizzy trying to find out what happened to her boyfriend and who murdered him. Through-out the novel her boyfriend seems to contact her in her dreams where they get to experience things they could not while he was alive. He also warns her and helps her survive against this murderer who is now coming after her. The love moments seem to come during these dreams, such as going to an island, an flying and going down mountains of snow and such. Things that any couple would want to do together. Especially the flying part. Who wouldn’t want to fly? I kind of found myself rushing through these moments just so I wouldn’t have to deal with them. But, if you love romance, then it would be good for you.

Towards the end of the novel we are introduced to a couple of ideas that I thought could have been brought in the beginning or even the middle to make the novel longer and just even more interesting. One involves Lizzy’s talent with death and sets up for future novels that could introduce us to a nice mystery/paranormal series. The other part was this supernatural part that to me seemed a bit out of the ordinary for this type of book, but it could’ve set up for a darker novel in the future.

The writing style was good. It wasn’t at its best, but you often get that when novels aren’t published with high publishing companies. It wasn’t horrible to the point where you couldn’t read it, but if you have read a lot of novels, you can notice one or two mistakes here or there. But they seemed to add to the atmosphere of what the book was and didn‘t cause a disturbance. The characters were interesting, although I thought Lizzy could have been a stronger female character and not so dependant on her boyfriend. Some of her actions made me question her character, and one in particular seemed to throw her intelligence out the window. This part is towards the end of the book where this fight happens. Michael seemed like every girl’s dream but it took away from the reality. He was good for a book but not so much for the real world.

The supporting characters were interesting if I do say so myself. I wished some had bigger roles and more book time, just to add to their character and who they were. I also wish we could have seen more of the history behind the murderer seeing as I love to get inside their minds and find out why do the things they do. These couple of things could have helped make the novel longer and possibly much more complex. Although I think the author just wanted a regular run-through novel which worked.

All in all, I found this book entertaining. It is definitely a light, easy read that is good between heavier books. It’s fast, it’s intriguing, there is a lot of mystery going on. The love did throw me off a bit, but I am an adult male who much rather read action, and explosions and such, but everything else I felt was good enough to keep me reading and recommend it to people who just want something fun. So if your brain is tired of thick books with multiple complex plot-lines, check out In My Dreams by Cameo Ranae. Also, I have to say that these are my opinions on the book itself, not on the author or her as a writer in a whole. For all I know, she could write a new novel that’s about 500 pages long and it’ll blow my socks off.

Wow! What a debut novel! I have not cried over a book in years but the tears just kept coming!! I am very impressed with Cameo Renae's writing technique! This is so well written, that right off the bat you are invested! You want to know what happens to the characters Lizzy and Michael! You are heartbroken for the situation that they are thrust into but routing for them all the same!! I was fascinated by the spiritual aspect to this story(from personal experiences myself) and couldn't wait to see where the characters would end up. Again wow!! I really enjoyed reading this book and definitely recommend it to others!!

DISCLOSURE: I was provided a copy of In My Dreams by Cameo Renae for review purposes only. I was not compensated to write a positive or favorable review. This is Keeping Up With The Rheinlander's personal opinion.

Bookblogs is proving a wonder. You get to meet so many new folk - blogger, readers, reviewers, authors alike and I chanced upon In My Dreams by Cameo Renae and loved it.

Here is the summary:

It was happening again. The dreams. The nightmares. It was something seventeen year-old Elizabeth "Lizzy" Hayes thought she'd outgrown; dreams that would come true; detailed premonitions of how people would die. This time she dreams about her boyfriend, Michael Young, and soon discovers that he's been found... dead. Michael hasn't crossed over because he was murdered, and now his murderer is coming for Lizzy. His spirit won't rest until she is safe, and as a newbie spirit, the easiest way for him to make contact is through Lizzy's dreams. When she dreams, it's as if he hasn't died. Lizzy must learn to pull on her inner strength to survive horrifying events. Meanwhile, in the spirit world, Michael learns everything he can about his supernatural gifts to help. But will it be enough to save her?

A general element about a novel - it should be well paced. Well no questions asked In My Dreams is a well paced novel. Descriptions (especially of landscape) were atmospheric and breath-taking. And the plot points were well laid out. And most of all the language was simple nothing too modern and nothing too classy. But the best thing is - I was hooked from the beginning - normally whenever I read I make a point to stop after 4 or 5 chapters for a day but this had me hooked to the teeth and I knew I simply had to finish it at once. And I must also add Ms. Renae you made me cry with the last chapter of this book and that's saying something cause I'm not a very crying type of a person.

So, Lizzy Hayes is our protagonist here and much to her chagrin has grown accustomed to having dreams of how people will die - dreams that are actually detailed premonitions that eventually come true. So, when she has a dream about her boyfriend, Michael, Lizzy discovers soon thereafter - much to her horror - that his dead body has been found. Because he's been murdered, though, Michael's spirit has not crossed over to the other side, and he's determined to do whatever it takes to stop his killer - who now has his sights set on Lizzy. But can Michael save his endangered lover before it's too late...? - A fairy tale romance - the perfect boyfriend and a dependent gal - but don't go thinking about Bella Swan (Twilight) - Lizzy is way better than her (Bella is say was the most irritating protagonist is have read about....more so after Kristen Stewart began to play the role.....then she became pathetic - but don't go flaming me I like Bella-Edward saga and i'm just making a ref.) but yes Lizzy and Michael's relationship is way sweet and serene.

Although the main plot point is pretty common and has been done before but the author breathes new life in it and makes it so that we feel that we are the one experiencing it as it is happening and not just as a simply reader but we feel that we are a part of the story.

In My Dreams is quite the exciting supernatural thriller. Author Cameo Renae breathes intriguing new life into what has become a rather familiar concept. As the action of the novel unfolds, readers are sure to find themselves on a roller coaster of different emotions, including everything from sadness, tantalizing terror to joy - culminating in the desperate hope that Michael and Lizzy's efforts finally come together to prevent her untimely demise.

I Quote - It is a definite page turner, an engaging, attention-grabbing read from beginning to end. You Won't be able to keep it down until you read it till the .

Elizabeth "Lizzy" Hayes is waiting for her boyfriend Michael Young to show up. She is worried because he is never late. She falls asleep waiting for him and has a weird dream, and Michael is there. He helps her, and when she hears a phone ringing she is ripped from her dream and Michael. Mr. Young tells her that Michael has died, and she is heartbroken.
Lizzy keeps having vivid dreams about Michael and when someone come to her and tells her that he is reaching out to her, she doesn’t know what to do. Her best friend says she should try to talk to him. She thinks she is crazy, but tries it. She finds out what really happened to her Michael and is face with the same danger.

This book is truly amazing. I read it in less than 12 hours; I really couldn’t put it down. I really loved reading the love Lizzy has for her boyfriend Michael. All of the characters are loveable besides one. You’ll see when you read it! In My Dreams is a heartwarming story of Lizzy’s first love. My only complaint is that I want MORE. *Hint, hint!* But honesty you can’t go wrong with this book. Now warning, you will cry. There were MANY time I was crying, but it isn’t all sad tears. There is an awesome surprise in the end. I HIGHLY recommend this book!!

I was told how amazing this book was before I even started reading it and I could not agree more! I loved it! My emotions were all over the place while reading it! The plot of In My Dreams was so sad but so amazing! It left me nearly in tears but then it would leave me begging for more! I was actually on the edge of my seat with the action scenes as they were so good! I loved the characters as well as the plot! The main character, Lizzy Hayes was amazing! She was so strong and brave throughout the entire book! Michael Young was amazing as well! I loved him and I felt so sorry for what had happened to him! Lizzy and Michael as a couple were amazing! They were even stronger together and their love for each other made me smile so much! The ending was so good and I would honestly love this book to be made into a series as there was plenty of romance and cannot fault the plot at all! I cannot wait to read Cameo's next book after seeing how amazing her writing is in In My Dreams! The cover is absolutely beautiful as well!

Heartfelt & Romantic

I have never been on more of an emotional roller-coaster reading a book as I have with In my Dreams. It’s beautifully written, I really felt like I was losing Michael along with Lizzy. This story really is heart wrenching and beautiful filled with so much love.

Cameo’s characters really take on a life of their own in this earth shattering book about Michael & Lizzy’s love for one another and how nothing can take that away not even death. Michael was murdered and the person who killed him is after lizzy, he refuses to cross over and will do anything to make lizzy safe. He tries to learn everything he can about his gifts to make sure she is safe but will it be enough in the end

Lizzy doesn’t know if she can go on without Michael, he was everything to her and nothing will be the same now that he’s gone. But she must learn how to be strong if she doesn’t what to suffer the same fate as her love.

Three and a Half Stars: A touching, heart felt romance for the sentimentalists., February 15, 2012
By Heidi "Rainy Day Ramblings" (Portand, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In My Dreams (Paperback)
Lizzy shudders awake, trembling as the remnants of her nightmare slide away. Blinking she glances at the glaring, red numbers on her digital clock. It is just a few minutes after six. The clock seems to jeer at her as it marks off the seconds. Each tick a jabbing reminder that Michael is over an hour late for their date. He is never tardy and to be delayed on tonight of all nights. He has a special anniversary surprise planned to mark their four years as a couple. Michael and Lizzy have always been destined to be together. They were childhood friends and high school sweethearts. Her eighteenth birthday is just a few days away and they have so many budding plans for their promising future. Where is he? Desperately, Liz punches the speed dial on her cell. Again it clicks to voice mail. She tries to shake the feeling of unease. A sharp, stabbing pain emanates from the back of her neck and a wave of nausea overtakes her. A few minutes later she staggers to the couch and slips into an uneasy slumber. When she opens her eyes, she is gliding down the darkened road in Michael's car, her fingers tightly intertwined in his. At last Michael is finally here. He draws her into the tight, protective circle of his arms and promises that she has his heart forever. Why are his eyes so sad? Then the jarring sound of the phone fractures the dream. Lizzy rouses to her cell buzzing with horrendous news. Michael is dead! Her life forever shattered. Michael's death is just the beginning of the nightmare that haunts her while she is awake. Someone is stalking her. Can Michael somehow from beyond protect the girl he loves?

What I Liked:

*This is such a tender, poignant story. The devotion between Lizzy and Michael will touch your heart. There are so many sad, emotional moments in this story, I found myself blinking back the tears. If you adore sweet, love stories then, In My Dreams will speak to you. In addition it tells the tale of forgiveness, second chances and redemption. I appreciated the positive messages that this novel conveys.
*I enjoyed the additional supernatural elements in the story, the enigmatic Inuit Lucy Crow with her unique ability that allows her to interpret the whisperings she hears from the spirit world. I was intrigued by the appearances of the protective white wolf with the sapphire eyes. I was certainly surprised to learn its origins. I loved the guardian angels and being able to interact with the souls of the deceased through dreams. The grandparents were especially moving for me, as they reminded me of my grandparents that have passed on.
*I liked the descriptive settings. The main story takes place in Alaska during winter. The author does a marvelous job conveying the darkness and biting cold that envelopes the population during the long, dark days. I could totally relate to the brisk, arctic wind and the sting of its chill especially while Lizzy shivered in her car waiting for it to warm. Anyone who endures a long winter will be able to feel it's frosty breath blowing out of the pages. I also enjoyed the fun trips that I took with Lizzy and Michael in her dreams. I soaked in the sun of Hawaii, visited the lake, ice skated and snowmobiled. Ms. Renae does a fabulous job taking the reader along on the journey.
*This book can be purchased for the low price of $1.99 as an ebook on amazon.com (this price reflects the cost at the time of this review 2/12). For less than two dollars you can read this romantic, emotional story of true love. That is a bargain! So click the link (the book cover) and head over to Amazon and get your own copy.

And the Not So Much:
*Ms. Renae spins an intriguing tale, filled with lovely metaphors and intricate descriptions. For the most part the story flows nicely but there are some stumbles over a few grammatical errors and falling into the passive voice, which slows down the pace somewhat. There was a bit of redundancy especially when it comes to tears and crying. These are slight mistakes that do not mar or overtake the plot. I am certain with a little polish and further editing, Ms. Renae will tighten up her writing in her next outing.
*The story line is not particularly fresh or innovative. The concept of a ghost reaching back from the other side is reminiscent of Ghost (one of my favorite movies). Though the idea of the novel is not original, the author does spruce it up with the inclusion of other supernatural entities as well as an Alaskan, shaman, ghost whisperer, Lucy Crow. I was excited when I met Lucy, I just wished that she had a stronger presence in the story.

If you are pining for a touching story of a boy and a girl, who find their love can transcend the boundaries of mortal existence, then In My Dreams, will satisfy your longing. Michael is an angel that you will cling to, as he fights to protect his girl. This book reminds you that love is forever, no matter the circumstance. A sweet story that those with a sentimental heart will thoroughly enjoy. Pick up your copy today while you can at a low price.

Favorite Quotations:

"The sky was painted in pale lavender, and all the spruce and pine trees were flocked in white. "

"Sparkling glitters of snow fell from the sky. I closed my eyes and felt the cold flakes melt on my face."

"I'll never leave you. I'll always be here," he said placing his hand over my heart. "Always remember that. Forever in my heart."

I received this book free fom Cameo, in exchange of a honest review. Thank you, Cameo!! <3
One Word: STUNNING! This book is stunning, amazing, awesome, wonderful, beautiful and sad. I loved it from the very first moment I opened it and I started reading.
This is the saddest book I ever read. Tears stremed down my face every time Lizzy speaked about how much she loves Michael and how much she misses him. I have to warn you, this book will break your heart. The emotions are so well described that you actually feel them. You cry along with Lizzy , feel her pain , love with her and hate with her. This is the best thing about “In my dreams” . It’s not the easy reading type. Reading “In my dreams” , the emotions invade you and you pray for the characters. Also, the story will take your breathe away. It’s one of the most beautiful love story I ever read.
Cameo is a very good author. She knows how to take you from your world and place you in Lizzy’s sad world. Also, there is soooo much suspense in this book! I was breathless when Lizzy was kidnapped. There were passages that scared me horribly. So if you think that “In my dreams” is just a love story, you’re wrong. “In my dreams” is also a excellent thriller!
I loved the mix between love, fantasy and thriller! That’s why “In my dreams” is one of the best book I’ve ever read. I found everything I liked in it : fantasy, love and thriller. I enjoyed every single word of it and I want more! I was very sad when I finished and I wanted to restart it all over again. This was definitely one of the best reads EVER! I recommend it to all of you, you will love it!
I don’t know what else I can say to show you how much I loved this book and how good it is , so I am gonna relate you some action. 
Meet Lizzy. She is 17 years old and her life is not perfect. With an alcoholic mother and a dad that left her, she had to confront the life from a fragile age. The single thing that is perfect in her life is her boyfriend, Michael (lovely boy) . He is perfect: romantic, careful and ,well, perfect. Lizzy is happy with Michael and loves him more than anything.
But her world is turned upside down when she receives a call from Michael’s parents. They tell her that Michael had a car accident and died. Lizzy is broken and she doesn’t know how she will live without her soul , Michael.
In the evening of the accident, the girl was waiting for her boyfriend to come and take her to their fourth Anniversary. But Michael never showed up. And waiting for him, Lizzy falls asleep and dreams that Michael dies. After Michael’s parents’ call, after a loooooonnnngggggg cry, she falls asleep and dreams Michael. She dreams that Tyler , their best friend, was somewhere in a cabin with a strange men that insist that he wants his money. Tyler tells him that “he” will bring them. After some time, Lizzy will find out, with horror , that this “he” is Michael. The girl easily figures out that the strange men is a dealer and he wants the money from the drugs he saled to Tyler. Michael didn’t bring them , thinking that maybe he can fool the dealer. But he can’t , so now they are in danger. The dealer wants his money, and Michael , Tyler and him go to bring them. And then, Lizzy wakes up.
The next day, Elizabeth goes to work. There, a women come and tell her that she is a shaman and that Michael contacted her. She tells her that Michael was murdered and didn’t cross over because Lizzy is in danger , because his killer is coming to Lizzy. She also says that Lizzy has “the gift” and she can see Michael if she leaves her mind and heart open. Lizzy belives every word that this women says.
Now, Lizzy sees Michael in her dreams. She touches him, kisses him, speaks with him. It’s like is real. But when she wakes up, she remembers that a killer is looking for her. And when he finds her, she has to be very strong to survive these horrifying events. Do you want to know how this danger adventure will end? Then read this amazing book and find out!

If you’re searching for something that will take you breath away , you found the right book! I recommend this book with the biggest pleasure! It’s a must-have!

I'll start my review with what I liked about the book. The author put in extra effort into describing the mood in the opening paragraphs. She wrote the mood well. I felt that she didn't put as much effort into that later on in the book.

I thought the story and the idea was good as well.

But...

I felt that the characters were underdeveloped. Michael's character was boring because he was too perfect. Give him a flaw to make him interesting.

Lizzy's (the main character) character was kind of annoying sometimes. I got the impression that she felt she was undeserving of Michael. I didn't have any real reason to like her. Aside for sympathy we feel for her character, there wasn't much else.

Other aspects was that there were large scenes of Lizzy and Michael having loving reunions with the backdrop of exotic scenery. As sweet as their confessions of how much they loved each other are, let me point out that the purpose of a scene is to move the plot forward. Essentially, nothing in the plot was happening. I was bored. There were at least two of these LONG scenes.

Another thing that I found annoying were the conversations between Lizzy and other people about how they loved her, she was family, she could come to them for anything. And Lizzy would acknowledge it saying, she knows, and she loves them too.
Another sweet scene between characters who consider each other practically family. Sweet, and boring.

At the end of the book, I kind of felt cheated when this new character was just thrown in. It was so left wing when this character, who was somewhat important to the plot and we've never heard of up until that point, was suddenly given a big scene and introduction at the end with Michael.
You throw in angels and demons at the very end, when throughout the whole book there hasn't been a single one. At that point in the story, I wasn't into it. I was more like: "Really? I can only suspend my disbelief so much. You have to make me believe it's absolutely possible for this to happen in the story."
I also wasn't too sure what the purpose was of Lizzy's boss. She was given a lot of word space (or whatever the term is called) for a character who doesn't do much. We get her life story and why Lizzy feels so indebted to her. But this character doesn't play any role in the plot. Delete her and nothing would change.

I think that the book, currently out, reads more like a draft. It is full of potential ideas but they weren't woven tightly together with details. When reading, it doesn't feel like I'm actually there. The scenes need to be carefully reevaluated and revised so that each one does the purpose of moving the plot forward. I think the question the author needs to ask herself is: did she write that in to satisfy her fantasy, or was it for the sake of the novel? Would the novel be more cutting edge without those fluff scenes?

Also, there were a few typos.

I am sorry if my review came off kind of abrupt. I hope that my criticism would be helpful to the author. I do like the plot ideas, but the novel wasn't presented right. Some stuff should have been cut out, and other stuff written in that isn't currently there.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Cameo Renae, your debut novel is a HIT – you nailed it! You wrote an amazing story and added an amazing cover. This is a great Young Adult story that deals with such strong emotions and heavy issues. There are feelings of love, loyalty, grief, fear, and more while dealing with relationships, betrayal, death, and danger. I loved the twists incorporated into this story. As soon as I thought everything was falling back into place, BAM! Ms. Renae would throw that twist in there and start the action right back up! This novel was also jam packed with emotions; you just might need some tissues nearby while you’re reading. The author would add in some humor at just the right time to help balance out your tears though. If you like YA Paranormal Romance, then I would definitely recommend this book to you. Overall, I give “In My Dreams” by Cameo Renae 4.5 STARS!

The summary can tell you about the book, but I will briefly reiterate
it for you.

Seventeen year old Elizabeth “Lizzy” Hayes and best friend/boyfriend Michael Young have loved each other for most of their lives. On the day of their fourth anniversary, the always punctual Michael was late. Lizzy fell asleep and had a vision of Michael dying only to be awakened with the news that he really did die. When Lizzy was a young child she used to have premonitions in the form of dreams of people dying. The dreams had stopped for years and resurfaced the night of Michael’s death. From that point on, Lizzy had dreams of Michael where they would have real contact with each other (it was easier for new spirits to make contact through dreams). Michael refused to crossover to his afterlife until he was sure Lizzy was safe. He was murdered and Michael knew his murderer was coming after Lizzy; he would do whatever it takes to make sure she was safe. Will Michael’s murderer catch up to Lizzy? Can Lizzy stay safe and survive with the help of Michael? Will her dreams of him give her the strength that she needs to go on? Or will Lizzy be joining Michael in death sooner rather than later? Find out in “In My Dreams” by Cameo Renae!

Okay, this 4.5 STAR book is a great read! I really liked it, and I think that if you normally like YA novels you would like this book as well – especially if you are into the Paranormal Romance genre. I thought the love story between Lizzie and Michael was beautiful – simply amazing, it is a love that everyone dreams of experiencing; I certainly wish I could find that kind of love. I also enjoyed the supporting characters, such as Lizzy’s best friend Emily. Emily is so full of life and she made me laugh, and I also liked her because she believed in the paranormal. I appreciated the lessons that this story taught readers as well. The loyalties were great between the characters, but when betrayals did occur we learned that sometimes forgiveness is best.

I suggest adding “In My Dreams” by Cameo Renae to your TBR (to be read) list.

4.5 Stars

OK, I’ve read this in a day. That tells you something straight away. Now, where to start with this one and how to right a review without spoiling this book for anyone???? Here goes...
This book is heartbreaking and had me in tears several times. Now believe me, that is no easy task. The love between Liz and Michael is one that everyone with a heart dreams of. It’s beautiful. Their story is so well written, it grips your heart and soul. You feel everything they do, see everything they see. As far as I’m concerned (and you won’t hear this often) the powerful romance, the chemistry, the characters personalities, everything to do with their relationship... was perfect. Heartbreaking, but damn perfect.

This (again as far as I’m concerned) is one of those books that will stay with you forever. You’ll think about it afterwards and smile, even though on the inside you’re still breaking your heart crying.

I’m not telling the plot. But it’s good. No, scrap that... its awesome. I would like to say this is a love story where I would like to be the female. But I don’t think I would be as strong as Liz. So I won’t wish to be her, but this will definitely stay me.

The only gripes I had were the repetitive sentences and that sometimes the story would jump around. Things were put in this book that just weren’t needed (like hovering the curtains when all I cared about was what had happened to Michael.) and they were put in there at bad times. One minute she was talking about feeling ill, the next minute about another character, followed by a long description of him them. Bad timing. But they are the only gripes.

Pick up this book, go somewhere quiet and enter a world of true love, sacrifice and bravery that will capture you mind, heart and soul, just as it has mine.

I must admit that I was cautioned that Cameo Renae's debut novel, "In My Dreams," might be too much of a "chick" book for my taste ... but, while it will certainly appeal to those who love a good paranormal romance, there is plenty of pulse-pounding action and danger mixed in to make a wide and diverse audience happy. The writing is tight and focused, the plot strikes a balance between being too straightforward and overly complicated, and the characters are well-constructed, likable, and--most importantly--believable.

The setting is interesting. It might not be the first book I've ever read that takes place in Alaska, but it's the first one I remember. The town, the weather, and the wildlife combined to give the book a rustic, yet otherworldly, feel that really worked for the story. But, as a native of New York--where residents like to brag that we have four distinct seasons, as if we're somehow responsible--the thought of days with only four or five hours of sun makes me claustrophobic (and happy that it's 82 degrees and sunny as I write this). I liked the reference to "I'll See You In My Dreams," the lone Top-40 hit for AOR band Giant (in 1990) and the inclusion of the Hawaiian state fish (which I still can't pronounce).

"In My Dreams" appears to be a stand alone novel, but the world and situations that Renae created can easily be expanded into further novels, or even an ongoing series. As I said earlier, I think many readers will enjoy this novel--males and females, alike--but I would particularly recommend it to fans of YA, Paranormal Romance, and love stories.

This is a story that will bring tears to your eyes.

Lizzy hasn't had an easy life. After her father walked out her mother fell apart. Lizzy was forced to grow up faster than any child should.

The one thing that made everything better was her relationship with Michael. He is the bright spot in Lizzy's life. They have a bond that even Romeo and Juliet would be jealous of.

Then one night changes everything.

Lizzy no longer has the bright shining light that Michael has brought to her life. Michael's life was taken far to early and in an unnatural way. Michael does however find a way to bring some of that light back into her life.

Through her dreams.

Lizzy is amazed when she starts to have vivid dreams where Michael comes to visit her. She still cannot grasp the concept of his death, but having him close makes it a little easier to ignore. Everything is not ok though. Somebody is coming after Lizzy for information they believe she has in her possesion.

Michael has vowed to stay with Lizzy until he knows she is safe. Through trying to figure out exactly how Michael died, dealing with an alcoholic/drug addicted mother, and trying to escape the lunatic that is responsible for Michael's death, Lizzy has quite the long road ahead of her. The only thing that keeps her going is her knowledge that she's not doing it alone.

This book is an absolute must read! The story of Lizzy and Michael is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Their love is so strong and pure. You can't help but envy the connection they share. Absolutey in love with this book <3

WHOA!! I judged this book by it's cover CORRECTLY. What an awesome read! WOW! I kept getting interrupted while I read this and it annoyed me (like any reading interruption would) but it more upset me because I was so wrapped up in the characters of this book. So, last night, I just stayed up and read it while everyone was sleeping and yep, I cried. A few times, in fact (and I am NOT an easy crier, trust that!).

The story was paced so well and the emotion written so beautifully that I didn't want to peel myself away for a moment. It starts right off with terror and just builds off of that. Up and down. Emotional rollercoaster!!! That's what it was!

If you've ever lost someone you love, you WISH you could be like Lizzy (and Lucy)! So often, people we love are taken from us in the most unexpected times and ways and not being able to say what was in our hearts (or truly know what happened) can haunt us (no closure = emotional sandbag to our heart). Imagining that what we say can actually be heard by those we've lost is... a new hope.

The scenery was amazing, the story will have you giggling one moment and gasping the next. Sometimes I would be crying and not even know WHY then suddenly I would realize that it's because it would KILL me to have to do what Lizzy does. So much pain and hurt in her and also so much strength that she never knew she had. I just LOVE this book. Cameo, you knocked your "baby" (debut) out of the park!!!

In My Dreams by Cameo Renae is an absolute must read! We start off meeting Lizzy Hayes, who is currently waiting for her boyfriend to pick her up for a special date. But instead of Michael showing up, she receives a phone call with the sad news that Michael has been in a car accident. Lizzy’s world is turned upside down as she struggles with finding out the truth and trying to survive without her soulmate.

I found myself tearing up throughout the book as the heart breaking pain rolled off of the pages in waves. But not only pain and suffering are felt, as this is a true love story about a love that will last forever, even in death. The reader will experience the sadness, love, joy, courage and determination of each character involved.

There really isn’t anything more that I can say that expresses how much I enjoyed In My Dreams so do yourself a favor and get your own copy today. I know I’ll be getting a print copy as well to put on my bookshelf because I will be reading it again.

This is the saddest book I've ever read in my life! If it was a movie, I'm sure I'd cry from the beginning to the end. Speaking of, it kinda reminded me of Ghost, but this one was even sadder. I read the book in HOURS. I couldn't take my eyes off of my Kindle, I just had to keep going to find out what was going to happen.
I've never read such an emotional novel, and Liz&Michael love goes beyond any barriers. Their love is very sweet, caring and tender, and I had to keep tissues close just in case, as there were lots of moment in which I was about to cry.
There were a couple of things that didn't totally convince me, like when she talked with Tyler's dad telling him all about her dreams. He didn't flinch at all, like it was the most normal thing in the world. And I thought that the Angels&Demons battle was a bit banal.
However, I really enjoyed this novel, Cameo has a lot of unseen potential and I hope everybody will see how great she is!!

I want to start off by saying Thank You to Cameo for this awesome book she gave it to me as a gift and I am so glad she did.

I give this book a five star rating I have NEVER had a book make me cry EVER. This book had me crying and sitting on the edge of my seat the whole entire time. Lizzy and Michaels story is so heart wrenching and beautiful, with such love and heart felt friendship. This is a love story like no other you will ever read, I have had to deal with the loss of a boyfriend so this book really hit home for me. The characters were all so believable as if they were real people I knew in person. To find out that you are stronger than you ever imagined at such a young age is something all young teens would love to learn. I could go on for days with this but I don't want to give away anything because it is a book I will recommend to everyone I know. I have never cried so much over even a TV show as I did this wonderful book. Thank You Cameo again for such an awesome story.

In My Dreams was an emotional ride from the beginning. I could feel Lizzy's loss and Michael's love. You can tell Cameo really cares for her characters, and she developed them well. My attention was kept, which says a lot because I get distracted easily. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen there was another element or layer added to the story.

Young love that is so pure is a rarity, but I feel like Cameo made it believable. I gave the book five stars because it was well thought out, and tugged at the heart strings. I especially like the way everyone made peace at the end, kind of, but you will have to read to see.

For a debut novel, Cameo has done a good job of aiming her story for the target audience. I felt at times that I was reading a teenage version of Ghost (Swayze and Moore), and that the actual story itself was lacking. Personally, I'm not much of a romance reader, so I think the tension and action was short-changed for fantastical sweet dream sequences. While overall I enjoyed the book, I do feel like we missed out on getting to know the characters because we were just supposed to accept the fact that they were in love previous to the story beginning without allowing us to experience it with the characters. That being said, it's a good quick and clean read for any YA reader.

In My Dreams tells the story of Liz (short for Elizabeth) who is desperately waiting for her boyfriend, Michael, to show up on their date for their fourth anniversary together. Unfortunately though, it seems as if Michael has stood her up. But then Liz has the strangest dream, and when she wakes up she gets the one phone call nobody should receive in their entire life: Michael is dead. They found his body in his car in a place where he had no business being, and it seems like he overdosed on drugs. The only problem is that Michael didn’t do drugs. He was your typical all-star goody-two-shoes boy and excelled in everything he did. On top of that, Liz starts dreaming about Michael, and in these dreams he slowly reveals what really happened to him. Now the person who murdered Michael is after Liz, and the only thing standing between Liz and this insane killer is the ghost of her deceased boyfriend…

Meh. Meh is the general emotion I feel about this book, because it could have been so much more, yet it doesn’t always deliver. It has the potential to be something remarkable, along the lines of the movie Ghost, if you will, but instead it ends up failing short of expectations. That’s not to say I wasn’t on the verge of crying occassionally throughout this book, because truthfully, it is an emotional rollercoaster. But on the other hand, I thought some scenes were too awkward, too rushed or too strange to bring out any emotion whatsoever except frustration. Don’t get me wrong. This isn’t a bad book by any means. The author does a remarkably good job telling the story, and her own emotional involvement with the story is clear from the start. The descriptions are beautiful and imaginary, the writing is fluent and effective, but sometimes the pacing is off. Sometimes the characters don’t act entirely human. And in a book with such a heavy emotional undertone as this one, that’s definitely not a good thing.

The weirdest thing for me was how Liz goes to work the day after she heard about her boyfriend’s death, and then laughs and jokes with her friend, Em. I sincerely doubt that anyone would be able to crack some jokes, or talk so casually, the day after their supposed love of their life died. In fact, these scenes could have been deleted altogether, if you ask me. They introduce us to the character of Lucy Crow, a native woman who hears message from the death, and who has been contacted by Michael as well. Lucy offers little or nothing to the story. She’s just there for this one random scene and then once more towards the ending. Her appearances are brief and unnecessary. I’m confident Liz would have been able to figure out everything on her own eventually. On top of that, these scenes portray Liz as being hardly emotional about her boyfriend’s death, something the rest of the book contradicts, making these scenes unbelievable as well.

I don’t want to be too harsh though. It can’t be easy writing about this topic, but those scenes just drove me crazy. The rest of the book does a good job keeping up with the emotions regular human beings feel in these circumstances though, ranging from immense and overwhelming sadness to wondering why they should go on if their beloved have passed away, and questioning the purpose of it all. When Liz is chased by Michael’s murderer, her fears and anxiety seem so real they practically drop off the pages. Those are some amazing scenes, but unfortunately they don’t make up for the rest of the story being rather bland.

We meet two side characters, Emily and Tyler. Both of them don’t have enough distinct personality traits to be very interesting. Because they don’t get a lot of time in the spotlight, I had a hard time connecting to them. Emily seems to be a social and fun girl, and she loves to watch paranormal movies and ghost shows on TV. But that’s really all I know about her, and that’s not an awful lot. I feel like more time should’ve been invested in this character. And yes, I know that I’m now contradicting everything ever said about books, but this book should have been longer. Period. At least that way I would’ve gotten to know the side characters a little bit better. The other character, Tyler on the other hand, is a very unbelievable and unrealistic character. Turns out that he went to do drugs and got in the bad crowd because he was in love with Liz, our main character who is suddenly being bombared in the Mary Sue role. Yes, because people start to do drugs all the time because they fall in love in high school and their big crush doesn’t return their feelings. Mind you, Tyler begins to grow romantic feelings for Emily half-way through this novel, making his claim utterly ridiculous. I might have believed it, if he didn’t turn around and fall for another girl instantly.

What else can I say? This book is severely suffering from missing-parent-syndrome. Liz’ dad left her when she was eight years old (or somewhere around that age, I can’t remember), and ever since her Mom turned into a raving alcoholic who is drunk 24/7. So Liz did what every other seventeen-year-old girl does, and she moved out to live on her own in her friend Emily’s cottage. Yes, because the alcoholic Mom added such a big part to this novel, or because Liz really had to live on her own for all these things to happen. In fact, this novel would have been a lot scarier and exciting if Liz had been living with her Mom at the time the serial killer named Buck came to pay a visit. Then we would have two people to worry about, and one of them would not be protected by forces of the beyond.

The pacing is off as well, as I already mentioned. Some vital parts are skipped over quickly, whereas other parts drag, especially the parts Liz spends with Michael in her dreamland world. Of course those are nice, romantic and cozy moments, but get on with the story already, will you? I mean, there’s a serial killer out there, and he’s out to get you.

Also, and I hate to admit it, but Michael is really stupid. I mean, he’s brave, kind, generous, yada yada, but he’s really stupid as well. Who in their right mind goes to play Mr. Righteous when a gun is being held to their head, or when they’re in a car with a serial killer? And if the problem is money, which he has lots of, why doesn’t he just give Buck what he wants? What does he think, that he can outsmart a crazy, drug-addicted, gun-carrying maniac? Does he even have any idea how selfish he is by wandering out in the middle of nowhere to help his friend Tyler, without even bringing the money along? Is he seriously so stupid he thinks he can just have a chat with someone pressing a gun to his ex-best-friend’s head? What is he, absolutely insane? I refuse to believe this is an act of heroism. This is an act of foolishness. And when Buck gives them a second chance to get the money, he should just have gotten the money. Him not doing so is an act of complete selfishness. Any idiot with half a brain would know the risk and consequences, yet he’s willing to put his poor parents and his loving girlfriend to the ordeal of him dying just to prove a point. That’s not being a hero. That’s being ignorant, stupid and selfish.

Oh, and let me talk to you a bit about Buck. Buck is the murderer/drug addict who Tyler supposedly owes money to. I have to hand it to Tyler, he doesn’t choose his friends very well. Buck also looks and acts like a bum. And…That’s all. That’s all we ever get about this character, as he claims one of the main roles and chases down Liz repeatedly, and then goes after her friends. I mean, he is our antagonist after all. Why did he become addicted to drugs? Why does he want to kill practically everyone he meets? Why does he need the money so badly – to pay for drugs, or has he got a debt himself? What brought him to this point in life? I might be the only one who had these questions haunt their mind while they were reading the book, but these are the kind of things I like to know, the things that shape the characters.

I liked the plot, from the murder on Michael to him trying to help Liz escape from a serial killer. It certainly had great potential, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations. The romance and love between Michael and Liz is what made me read through this entire novel, the rest of it left me feeling unsatisfied and annoyed. The dream sequences are too long whereas the action scenes are too short. The side characters are flat and boring. That said, Liz should also grow a backbone. She needs Michael for virtually everything, even for escaping the hands of a mad man. I mean, she could at least give it a try. But all of that kept in mind, I would have still given this book a higher rating, because I was quite impressed with the way Cameo Renae dealt with the romance between the two main characters. But that was until…

The ending. It has to be the most horrible ending I’ve ever read, or at least one of them. And I feel really bad saying this, because I don’t want to bash a book, but the ending seems like it’s taken out of the blue and misplaced. It’s not a suitable ending for this book. I don’t want to spoil things for you, so if you’re planning to read this book, you better not read the next few lines. But, right when everything it starting to look up as the bad guy stands defeated, a demon shows up with a contract Michael supposedly signed. Yes…This entire book evolves around ghosts and a human serial killer, but then the author decides, for the sake of filling another five pages, to just add a demon in the mix. I truly felt like ripping my hair out. The demon is then quickly defeated by…by an angel. Seriously. An actual, freaking angel decides it’s time to mingle, descends from the heavens, and just tears up the contract in a giant display of randomness. These acts are so completely random, unnecessary and stupid that I felt like bursting out in tears. How much better would the ending have been if these scenes were simply not written down? Or if they were, why not use book two to send Liz on a quest of her own trying to destroy the contract Michael made with the demon? Why bring an Angel down to help, like a deus ex machina?

I’m pretty sure a lot of people will enjoy this book. It’s young adult paranormal romance, and it’s good at the romance part. The love between Michael and Liz feels real and strong, and their bond is inspiring. It’s also good at the paranormal thing, because I absolutely loved Michael as a ghost, and his connection with Liz. It’s also pretty decent at displaying the emotions Liz goes through after finding out her boyfriend is dead, apart from the big going-back-to-work and hanging-out-with-friends fiasco. The descriptions from Michael’s funeral and Liz having dinner with his parents are heart-breaking and very touching. On the other hand, the action scenes are creative and thrilling as well. But that’s where it ends. Characterization could use some work – a lot of work actually – and some of the story elements are too random to be convincing. If you enjoy reaidng YA paranormal romance, you might want to take a look at In My Dreams, if you’re looking for a sad, emotional and heart-breaking love story. If you’re not a fan of those, you will probably not like this book either. I personally did enjoy it, and I might even be tempted to read a sequel since I have high hopes that the author’s writing and plot will only improve over time. But I wouldn’t blame you if you want to pass out on this one.

However, I have high hopes for the author, Cameo Renae. From what I gathered, this is her debut novel, and she did an impressive job. I have a feeling that, the more experience she has an author, the better her character-building, plot pacing, etc. will become and the better her books will be.
