Since she discovered magic, seventeen-year-old Skye Jackson's life is almost perfect. Almost. Even perfect has its glitches.
What happens when the one with all the power makes the biggest mistakes? Welcome to my life.
Four months ago, I couldn’t have been happier. When my parents got divorced, I wasn’t exactly thrilled. Especially when Mom married a guy half her age. But then I found out I wasn’t the average Joana. Discovering magic existed and, best of all, I could use it, made everything easier to deal with. That is until I got a little too spell happy. But what girl wouldn't defend her best friend against a world-class creep? Now I’m stuck in a nightmare, forced to make life and death decisions I never dreamed I’d face.
There's something absolutely refreshing about Kelbian Noel's voice. I got to read an early version of this book, and so I won't give a full review, because I plan to read it again. But I will say, if you like a spunky, wry and very girl-power MC, you will love this book. It's full of fun witchy-ness too, that's "rooted" (LOL, sorry... play on the first book) in true Pagan, Wiccan, etc. religions.

EXTRACT FROM CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO It’s been days since we've seen each other and the last meeting has me wondering if this is a good idea. It’s not like we have that much of a choice, but I’m still nervous about how she’ll react, when I tell her what I've done this time. If I tell her at all. Hey, Nana. I've effed up two more spells since the last time you screamed at me. Remember that guy I killed? Well I brought him back to life, now he’s going crazy. Oh and by the way, this is Ramon some other guy I summoned with another spell I had no business doing. Think you can help us out? That’ll go over well.
SUMMARY Skye Jackson is a seventeen year old girl, who has just dealt with her parent’s divorce. Although she is pleased they are no longer together, now she lives with her mother and new ‘boy toy’ husband who continually tries to be her ‘new dad’.
She starts visiting her Nana more who for the past five years has not spoken to anyone and is residing in a home. That is until recently. Now her Nan is talking only to Skye and what she has to say is taking up all of Skye’s time. Her Nana has informed her that their family is magic and that she herself is a very powerful witch.
Now neglecting her family, friends and boyfriend so she can visit her Nana, they both practice magic. Life to Skye couldn't be any better even though it has led her to losing her boyfriend (who is feeling left out of her life.)
Things in Skye’s are taking for granted when it comes to magic and using it to her advantage, but when a boy mistreats her best friend Claire and starts an untrue/unflattering rumour around school, Skye decides something needs to be done to teach him as lesson.
She decides to use magic, but soon things go terribly wrong. Skye faces dilemma’s and is left with more questions than answers.
Following magical mistakes what can she do to fix them? How can she use magic to help her friend who is in trouble for something that is her fault? And finally, how can she truly learn to use magic safely and learn what she truly has?
It so becomes clear to Skye that magic comes with consequences.
Now her Nana is back to her old self and not talking to anyone, she needs guidance, but who can really help her even though she now knows that there are some things you are just better off not knowing.
My Views Slightly, disappointed as it wasn't another fantastic story about Baltimore, however the heroine, Skye has helped to make up for any disappointment that I may have had starting this book.
I am pleased to say that I was immediately gripped with this, right from the beginning. My personal opinion, is that Kelbian Noel eventually got her groove and this flow from Book one to Book two was seamless, even though they are about two different characters.
Again, Kelbian Noel was able to grip me from the onset with a fantastic plot, great detail and of course the characters. After reading this book, I realised that each book within this series is going to be introducing you to each elemental, which to me personally I find fascinating.
There were quite a few similarities between the heroines in both ‘Roots’ and ‘Sprung’, for instance both Baltimore and Skye are the same age and are no longer with their boyfriends. It also seems that their grandparents have played a huge part in their lives, when it comes to magic. Skye’s grandmother although in a home and has not spoken to anyone in years, suddenly starts to talk but only to her. This is when Skye learns about magic and they both practice spells together and it seems Skye is now obsessed with it whereas Brooklyn truly doesn't want anything to do with it until it become vital and important to use it to help save and protect not just herself, her sisters, the one’s she loves but to also protect pure magic. Each family have their own special ‘book of shadows’ which is passed down from generation to generation and now it is their turn to use them.
To me this is where their similarities stop. These two heroines are individual in their own right and they both make great main characters.
I love how they were able to bring some of the characters from the ‘Roots’ into the second story and how Ramon is a special part in the Elemental Sisters lives, which to me was a surprise, especially following what happened in the first book.
This was definitely fast paced, exciting and full of unbelievable action and surprises. With a wide range of twists and turns and the introduction of both old and new characters ‘Sprung’ is a fantastic continuation of the ‘Witchbound’ Series.
‘Sprung’ has made me excited to continue reading the series and to learn more about the Elemental Sisters, their magic and of course their lives.
If you are a paranormal/fantasy fan, then this is a series for you. Fans of Charmed, Willow from Buffy, then you are in for a treat with the ‘Witchbound’.
MY RATING For me ‘Sprung’ deserves full marks – 5 out of 5! Was pleased to have been given the opportunity to read it and truly can’t wait to read ‘Smolder’ (Book Three) from the fantastic fantasy series ‘Witchbound’.

The Witchbound series jumps from Baltimore’s story in Roots (fitting since her element is earth), to Skye’s story in Sprung.
Skye Jackson is a bit of a hot mess. Her mother and grandmother didn’t get along. Her dad put her grandmother in a home to keep the family together, but it wasn’t enough. He screwed up everything, and now her mother has married a guy half her age and they live in a McMansion. Her new stepdad thinks he’s going to run her life, using the placard of being a good dad.
The downside to having a seventy-one year-old partner in crime, who resides in a nursing home, is that I have to do all the messed up stuff myself.
The upside of all this? Skye has magic. She knows how to use it, and her grandmother has started talking after five years of silence. Skye has made visiting her grandmother a priority over everything else in her life, especially over dating, because her grandmother will only talk to her. They spell the room and cluster themselves away for hours.
Skye thinks she’s got it all figured out…until she tries to hex a boy for hurting her best friend, Claire. Skye doesn’t end up finishing her task, but all of a sudden the boy’s gone missing and Claire is in hot, hot water with the police. Skye has nowhere to turn, except to a little shop owner who can get her all the items she needs to fix her mistake.
Skye has to protect and save Claire, while finding the boy and fixing her mistake, and she has no idea how to do that. She confides in the shop keeper, who also turns out to be a witch, and the shop owner helps Skye figure it out.
There’s only one problem: only one person is known to be brought back from the grave, and the witch responsible for it gained immortality, but lost all of her magical powers. Living an endless lifetime with no magic sucks, and that witch is on a witch hunt of her own.
Skye finds herself at a loss, and Ramon from the first book comes to her aid. After what happened before with Baltimore and Brooklyn, Ramon doesn’t use magic. Rather, he’s restricted not to. Between the two of them, they determine that Ramon is the guiding mentor of the Elementals, and Skye is one of them. He helps her, but he also warns her of making a fatal mistake.
Worst thing? Skye’s already made it.
I am giving fair warning that this book is much more gory and gruesome than the first book. I’m sure it’s nothing compared to say, Stephen King, but it’s quite a step up from the first book.
At many times in the book, I thought Skye was a bit of an idiot. Rather, she did exactly what most teenagers do these days: act without thinking. She put blind faith in complete strangers, and those strangers knew more about her than even she knew, including what her Pure blood can do.
I was sent a copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.
**Moderate spoilers.**
Sprung is a great companion sequel to Roots. Started off giving this a 4.5 star rating, but I just had to bump it to 5 stars. Simply profound!
This follows an Elemental witch named Skye Jackson, her element is air, which I think is very cool. Skye is a very spunky and curious character. I like how she spent time learning from and talking to her grandmother about magic. I love that her father was aware of magic, but avoided it all cost. Definitely makes one of the parents aware of what goes on magical wise. I love how protective she is as well. Especially when it came to Claire, her best-friend. I hate what the hex did, but than again magic is unpredictable when it's not specific. However, Skye found a way to make things better.
Both her parents are awesome. But what her dad did to her Nana was insane. Like beyond insane. Still respect him though. Okay so Seth has gone crazy, but I guess after a hex and being revived with magic that can do it!
Dale! OMG -- I can't believe it … I never expected such a thing from him. Maybe a cheater, but not that. But then again this series does make you second guess these characters a lot. The way he just moved right in and smoothed everything out with Skye and her mom was insane. Who the heck is Greta?! And Siobhan … OMG just as treacherous as Dale. I can't believe the people Skye trusts either lied to her or are out to harm her. Ruthless! Do they all work for Joslin?
The dreams Skye have been having about her "sister" is simply amazing. I finally understand how each witch can sense when one another is in danger and it's absolutely amazing.
I love how the story connects the characters from Roots to this one. Ramon was a great character in Roots, so I'm glad to see he's back for another go in Sprung. Finding out who Ramon is to both Baltimore (main character in Roots), Skye and the others makes so much more sense to me! But why are these girls always freaking kissing him?! Is it because of the bond or pull they have with him…it's all just too much!
I love how Nate and Baltimore arrive just at the end of the book and how both Baltimore and Skye have a dream about one of their sisters.
I'm excited to read Smolder and find out which Elemental witch it's about.
On a quick note: Poor Eugene. I really hoped he was still alive…I truly hate this Joslin witch.
Confusing at the beginning, but great at the end. Kelbian Noel has done it again!
I was still really glad that it was tied to the first book Roots in different ways.
From the summary, Skye comes off as a sassy teenager, which is exactly what she is!
Sprung is a book that is filled with sass and bad-ass teenagers!
I was happy that this book taught me as much as the first one about the world Noel has built upon. With different characters on a main level, the story is more interesting and teaches you a lot more.
Another thing I loved was that the characters were similar, but still original. It was not something COMPLETELY new that changed the whole story, but it did change it up a little so it is still intriguing to the reader.
I recommend this to all young adults who ever read Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings, any of those stories!
The Witchbound Series opens your eyes to a whole new world of fiction fun that will keep you on your toes!
To begin with I was disappointed that this book wasn't about Baltimore, but instead Skye. But as I got into the story I enjoyed it more than the first one - Roots. I really liked it when the characters from Roots came into this story, Ramon in particular.
There were similarities to Roots in that Skye broke up with her boyfriend, as did Baltimore in Roots. There was an older relative who taught about magic(in this book it was the Nan, it was the Grandpa in Roots) and there was a best friend who didn't know about the magical abilities.
I understand where the series is going now with all four Elementals having a story about them. I can't wait to read about the others in the future books.
Kelbian Noel did it again! I enjoyed Roots and no doubt I enjoyed it too. although this book is not about Baltimore, it tells us about Skye, another teenage witch that has to deal not only about teenage problem but also magic.
I like this book as Noel unfolds the story and twist, it's refreshing and funny. it always nice to feel like a teen again, lol.
I like this Skye character as well, she's fun and kind and how she defends her best friend, it's epic.
I would love to read another elemental series for sure.
I was a bit confused when i first started reading the second book of this series as i was expecting it to continue along with Baltimore story but no we have a whole new character. Then i realized that each book will be about each of the 4 elemental s and how they hopefully will all come together. I was glued to this book once again from beginning to end just something about Noel writing that kept me turning those pages. Great story.
First, I would like to thank the author Kelbian Noel for giving me this book for an honest reveiw. I was at first confused when the characters from the first book weren't there, but they did come later. I enjoyed this book as much if not more than the first book. The story-line is good, the world building is nicely done. The characters are well developed and written. I am looking forward to more of this series and more from this author.
