[Weep Not for Me: In Memory of a Beloved Cat] [By: Jenkins, Constance] [March, 1999]

Rate this book
The death of a beloved companion animal can cause as much grief as the death of a human being, and it may be more difficult to bear if others fail to appreciate how acute the pain of loss can be. This poem provides the comfort that helps to bring acceptance of a pet’s death. The book includes addresses of societies that offer grief counseling to those who have lost a companion animal.

Absolutely beautiful. One of a kind as is all the work of this kind, gentle insightful writer.

Heartbreaking but consoling! Although the book is in memory of a beloved cat this book is for anyone who has lost a furry companion. I will keep this book close!

Weep Not for Me: In Memory of a Beloved Cat by Constance Jenkins is a single poem book. There is one line on each page accompanied by a beautiful illustration of a very much loved cat. The poem is sweet and heartwarming (and as a cat lover, it certainly pulled on my heart strings!) As it’s a single poem, it can be read in a couple of minuets and the cover itself is nicely designed.
I was surprised to see a single poem being published as a book, as there is so little content I wonder who would be willing to purchase this book. I borrowed it from my local library but I personally wouldn’t want to buy a single poem, Jenkins could have easily included a few more poems. Although the poem was a nice simple read, it was not very deep or creative and it lacked any interesting poetic devices. Despite this, I think would be a great book for a child (or adult) grieving the death of their cat.

När en bara vill bli försäkrad om att det är okej, rätt normalt faktiskt, att sörja förlusten av en katt. Eller, ett husdjur vilket som helst. Inte mycket att läsa, men välskrivet och så fina teckningar.
En tröstebok!

I love this little book. Have loved and lost so many cats over my lifetime. Saying goodbye doesn’t get any easier.

Although nicely illustrated and a thoughtful poem, it just made me feel even sadder. For me, it’s not healing. I hope others can find some peace in this book.

Sitting with my own cat right now, listening to her snoring. I feel happy inside. Yes, I have thought about that idea billions times: what if one day I really need to say goodbye to her?
But just like the book says, “please do not dwell upon my death, but celebrate my life.”Let’s just allow things to come and go, enjoy what we have got, and just be grateful.
I will just simply enjoy every moment with her, and worry not.

I was gifted this lovely book by a friend after losing my 15 yr old cat days ago. It brought several tears while reading it. Perfect comfort for someone that has lost their dear companion.

This brought me a lot of comfort after watching my 22 year old childhood pet/best pal die in my arms. May this also bring consolation to others grieving the loss of a beloved pet.
