I started writing in 2011 and it quickly became a passion for me. I'm very lucky that writing brought so many amazing people into my life! And it also brought me the love of being a cheerleader! I learned that aside from writing, I love helping other authors reach for their own dreams. If you need someone in your corner, please don't hesitate to message me!
I won a copy of Chasing the Witch (Boston Witches, #2) by Jessica Gibson in a giveaway for free on Goodreads First Reads. Really enjoyed both the first and second book, and look forward to reading more from this author.
I received an ARC of Chasing the Witch by Jessica Gibson in exchange for an unbiased, honest review. This is book 2 of the Boston Witch series. The author didn't disappoint this reader. I love how she vividly captures the essence of all her characters. Each one is well rounded and could easily be featured in their own book. Just when life seems to be settling down after all of the drama in the last several months things start stirring up starting with Jilly's sister Caroline. This is definitely a book you want to read when you are completely alone because people will look at you like you are losing your mind or that you are insane. You scream out a lot going with the storyline. "No Way" was a common phrase I repeated over and over again. The imagery that the author uses to describe the scenes captivate you and entrance you from being able to stop reading. The drama and suspense with William's brother Patrick will keep you on a constant thrill ride. The Proctor sisters find out more about their lives then they bargained for, can they survive through this newfound information? Will Jilly and William ever get their happily ever after. We will have to see in book 3. The cliffhanger will have you wanting to slap the author saying "No, No you can't stop now I need to know". Thank you so much for giving me enjoyment in the lives of The Boston Witches. I can not wait for the next installment.
I really liked it. We finally get a glimpse into Caroline and her life. I felt like we got answers that we were left asking at the end of book one. I love that Will and Jilly keep trying to move forward in their relationship even through the drama. Caroline and Patrick being a match shocked me but at the same time didn't. I still wonder about Mary. Patrick trying to get along with them near the end was a big twist for me and I still don't know if I should trust it. Hanna was a great addition and I loved her instantly. I felt sorry for her and felt protective just like Jilly lol the emotional pull from the book was instant for me. The end did leave me intrigued and again with questions of their power and left me wanting to read the third book to learn more about the grandmother, I have a feeling her story will be pretty important.
The negatives for me are pretty small. I was disappointed in the lack of magic, it was one of my favorite things about book one. I often read scenes from the first book for the description of the magic, it was captivating. So I missed that aspect in this one. There wasn't a lot of action and when there was everything was too easy, I felt like there was no fight. Everything went their way with little effort on their part.
Overall I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next one!
When I read Mark of the Witch I felt that the story was a little slow to start and lacking a little in building the characters and their relationships to one another. Looking at it now Mark of the Witch felt more like it was bringing you into the mystical world of witches and immortals, finishing Chasing the Witch I actually appreciate Mark of the Witch more. Chasing the Witch gave me everything I wanted in the first book and way more. From the start I was drawn into the new story line and characters in this amazingly painted story. I was glued to the edge of seat waiting to see what twist and turn I would be lead on. By the time the end of the story came along I was wishing there was more story to read. An amazing sequel, hope the series continues. I'm anxiously waiting to see where everything goes and what happens to the characters.
I reviewed Mark of the Witch, the first book in the Boston Witches series last week. While I enjoyed Mark of the Witch, I must admit Chasing The Witch left me feeling much more impressed. The book has a solid storyline, intriguing characters who are well-developed, and an authentic voice. My only two concerns were that I felt transitions between one scene and the other could’ve been more fluent, and that the characters could’ve used a bit more depth. I’m still not that fond of Jilly. I can’t really explain why, but Caroline scores higher in my book. She has more depth and personality than Jilly, if you ask me.
The story takes off about four months after what happened in Mark of the Witch. Jilly is still very much in love with William, and they’re even planning on getting married. We see a lot more of Caroline than we did in the previous book, which in my opinion, is a good thing. Jilly is a goody-two-shoes character, the forever-hero who can’t do anything wrong, and if she does end up doing something wrong, it’s for the greater good or something. While I get these type of characters play an important role, I don’t like them all that much. I prefer characters like Caroline, who are flawed, who don’t always make the right decisions, who make mistakes and actually owe up to them. I think that’s why I like Caroline so much more: for all her flaws, it makes her all the more real to me, less like a character in a book, more like a real person. Caroline’s actions aren’t always examples of best of judgement, and I’m pretty sure some people will end up hating or strongly disliking her, but what can I say? I’m a fan of sympathetic ‘bad’ people, and Caroline is one of those.
The same scenario goes for William and Patrick. Patrick is William’s ‘evil’ brother, who isn’t all that evil afterall. He was painted as the villain in the first book and at the beginning of this one, but thanks to Caroline, we figure out he may have some redeeming qualities after all. Of course this causes another quarrel between the two sisters, and I wanted to punch Jilly for not even giving Caroline a chance to explain everything properly. Anyway, this time around, the villain comes in the form of ancient vampire Sabine and the person she’s working for, who has his eyes set on both sisters.
Mark of the Witch stayed pretty loyal to the general stereotypes about witches, like we see in Charmed, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and other TV series. Chasing The Witch distanced itself from what is known, and added uncommon myths and rules, making this book more and more unique, and of course, a lot more interesting to read. The characters were better developed as well. I liked how Caroline and Jilly’s voice differed so much that even from dialogue alone you could find out who was doing the talking. As the story develops, the characters matured as well, coming to terms with who they’re meant to be (especially Caroline, who struggled with being a witch in the first book). The plot reached a higher level as well, making more subplots, introducing more themes, and straightening the bad for a giant climax in the third book.
It’s not usually the case that a second book beats the first. People often refer to sequels in trilogies as ‘filler books’. I doubt anyone could say that about Chasing The Witch. It’s so strong, the plot so decent, that it would be more suitable to say Mark of the Witch was a prologue leading up to this book. I’m giving it a four-star rating and I recommend anyone who likes paranormal romance gives it a shot. I for one am looking forward to the third book in the series.

~My Review~
First of all Jillian's sister Caroline has a bigger role in this book, which I loved. We learn more about her and she takes a wild ride, right along side her sister. Caroline must take a trip to New York to end her marriage with Jack. She wants it done and over with. Little does she know while she is out with some girlfriends, Sabine, (one of the villains in the last book) is also out amongst Caroline's friends. Caroline panics and calls William and Jilly. They catch the soonest flight to New York worried about what Sabine might do with Caroline. In the meantime Katya, Nikolai's girlfriend is missing and they all believe Sabine has her. They all decide to trap Sabine and use Caroline to get them into Sabine's home. It works and Sabine confronts Caroline after her meet up with Jack. Sabine takes Caroline back to her home where she plans on imprisoning them. There she discovers Katya. Soon after Jilly, William and Nikolai bust in and rescue the women. They find pictures of Jack and Caroline, Katya and a young girl. They don't know who the young girl is, but they soon find out. Jilly has the power to teleport and that night she teleports to London where she finds the girl. Her name is Hannah and they exchange very little words. Jilly awakens and tells William they have to get to London to find Hannah. They find Hannah and bring her home with them. She has been alone for six months, the shadow wraiths killed her parents and had been after Hannah ever since. They get back to the states to discover Caroline is acting shady and soon find out that she is involved with William's brother Patrick. You will want to read book one to fully undersand Patrick and the relationship with the two brothers. This causes some friction between Jilly and Caroline. Jilly only knows the bad side of Patrick and Caroline is learning he isn't so bad after all. Jilly's abilities are stronger than ever and she learns more of what she can do. It makes the storyline that much more fun. She is a bad ass to put it mildly and by far my favorite character. Hannah's real father is revealed....finding out who it is....makes the story even more interesting. We also find out who the main villain is behind this whole masterminded plan. Jessica captivates us and brings so much more to the second book. It is magical, electrifying and leaves you wanting more. The last chapter of the book impressed me beyond words. I now cannot wait to see what Jessica has in store for Jilly, William and the rest of the cast. I was already a fan of the witch realm, but Jessica brings so much fun and magic into these books, you are left breathless and in need of your next fix.
If you have not read this series, I recommend you start with my review of Mark of the Witch. It had been a while since I read the first book. I have been sitting on book two waiting for a break in my book tours so that I could dig into this one without feeling rushed. I was impressed with how I didn't feel like so much time had passed. It was very easy to get back into the story and it flowed from book one very nicely. I will say that I felt like it was a little predictable most of the time, but there are a few twists that will surprise you.
This story actually has the return of Sabine, the Amaranthine that caused so much trouble for Jilly in the first story, only this time she isn't interested in Jilly. She is trying to get to Caroline, Jilly's sister. We have no idea what she wants her for, but you will probably have that figured out by the end of the book. Sabine is also trying to get Katya, another Amaranthine and a witch that is friends for Jilly and William, and a young girl named Hannah. Hannah is a new character that Jilly and William end up searching for in London, finding, and trying to help her get her life back in order. Hannah has lost all her family and doesn't understand why spirit wraiths are after her. William and Jilly take her in with the intention of making her part of the family. They have no idea how true that will really be. So what happens with Sabine? Is she working for William's evil brother Patrick or some other unknown person behind the scenes? Why is she collecting witches/Amaranthines? Will William and Jilly survive long enough to get married? These questions will mostly be answered. Read to find out more.
Chasing the Witch picks right up where Mark of the Witch left off. Jilly’s powers are still growing and she is learning as they come,Caroline is still training to be a better witch and her relationship is as good as ever.
Caroline is finally becoming the witch she had always denied and is doing great until she meets up with Patrick, William’s brother who is trapped in a cell and can’t get out Or at least that is what everyone thinks Things can’t get any worse with trying to keep him in his cell, Jilly is having visions of a girl over in London who needs her help and she knows she has to go protect her.
With everything going on with Hannah (the girl in the dream), Caroline is starting to act weird and it is William who figures out that she is sleeping with the enemy. Can JIlly accept the fact that Caroline is in love with Patrick or will she loose her sister again? Why does Patrick want Hannah so much? Who is calling these dark shadows to grab Hannah? Can Jilly protect everyone that she loves?
OMG this book is just as good if not better than the first one. Jilly and Caroline are both strong woman each trying to adjust to what life is throwing at them. There is the perfect mix of magic, romance and good vs. evil throughout the book to keep the reader enthralled in the story.
I found myself pulled into the world of Jilly and Caroline, each touching me in their own unique ways. Jilly strong and sure of herself, Caroline strong but still trying to find her way in the world she didn’t want to be a part of. Captivated with both of them right from the beginning all the way through the end!!
Definitely a must have to your reading collection.
Chasing the witch is a great sequel to Mark of the Witch in the Boston Witches series. The ending definitely leaves you wanting to know what will become of the Proctor sisters. Jessica Gibson has brought some new blood into this book not only do we have witches but a vampire or two.
Jilly is a powerful little witch and definitely becoming stronger as her character grows. She has developed a new power the ability to teleport. She just doesn't control it quite yet which can make things interesting.
Caroline has finally ended things with her husband Jack. She has a new romantic interest one that sister Jill is not happy with. This new love causes some serious friction between these sisters.
Will is as romantic and devoted to Jilly as ever. You definitely see more of him and realize how much money he has. He and Jill go rescue a young teenage girl Hannah and bring her home with them. Hannah has a few abilities of her own and its going to be interesting to see just where her character goes in future books. She is really sweet and had a lot of bad things happen in her life. So, far everyone seems to love this little witch.
Sabine is back and up to know good again. She is out to get Hannah, Caroline and Kat but why? I think we'll see more of her in the next book too when I'm guessing its all going to break loose.
Can't wait for the next one Jessica Gibson!
I received a complimentary copy of Chasing the Witch in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Thanks
Chasing the Witch (Boston Witches) brings us romance, adventure, and magic all rolled into one book. Now this is the second in the series, with Mark of the Witch being the first. I will admit that I have no read it yet, but I did pick it up after reading this one. With that being said, it was not necessary for me to have read the first, but with most series, it is a good place to begin.
Jilly is a witch of immense power and she is madly in love with William. However, a chain of events is set off that puts the couple to the test both magically and with their patience. Between Jill’s sister being hunted down, a strange girl of magical birth being haunted by shadowy creatures, and Will’s crazy, diabolical brother breaking free neither are prepared when a 1,000 year old vampire enters the scene.
Follow the couple over Europe on this mysterious adventure to uncover the truth, save their loved ones, and stop the vampire from creating a machine that sucks out powers. Will they make it? Ah, you have to read to discover.
Overall this was a fairly good read. I enjoyed the story line and the characters so much that I went ahead and grabbed the first book too. This way I can be caught up by the time the third book is released. If you enjoy subtle romance, adventure, and paranormal, you will enjoy this series too. My only advice, and I’m sure this is just me, but I swear the character’s must have a cleanliness OCD. They took a lot of showers ;). Still, I look forward to more of Jill and Will, and their gang.
This book held my interest well, and I kept reading because I was eager to discover what would happen next. I loved the story; the sense of place was conveyed superbly. I felt as if I were there with the group, living the moments along with them. I had no problem really picking up the story and understanding the circumstances and events as they unfolded even though I, unfortunately, have not read the first book in this series. While I empathized with the plight of the main characters in this adventure, and felt each was pretty-well fleshed, I do think the conversations often felt overly formal – even taking into consideration that some of the folks have been around for a long, long while. Sometimes the conversations tended to end awkwardly, too. The story arc completes satisfactorily in this book, however, the ending left me hanging. This seems to have become almost the norm, so it was not much of a surprise here. Normally, my preference is to wait until the series is finished then read all the books in order. There are plenty of opportunities for story branch-out and further development in the next installment. The Characters are evolving and their powers are increasing. It will be fun to see where the author takes us next. I think the overall story concept and progression is creative, and I love the imagination that went into writing this tale.
This book was provided to me by the author in return for my honest review.
Jessica has done it again! She's kept me on my toes with the latest installment of The Boston Witches.
Caroline has been dreaming of a mystery man who has stolen her heart. Oh, did I mention that she is also being hunted by Sabine? Jilly discovers a new ability that hasn't been heard of in years and its freaking awesome! Patrick is well... Patrick. He has some pretty big secrets that will blow your socks off!
You will be introduced to new characters such as Hannah. She is a sweet teenage girl who is on the run from someone or something. She meets Jilly and William who take her into their home and protect her from whatever is after her.
Chasing the Witch will take you on such a wild ride. You'll want to reach in and slap Caroline a few times and you'll definitely have an "aww..that is so sweet" and a "no way!" moment. This install is full of surprises I'm sure you'll love!
Jessica's creativeness with the scenes allowed me to play them out perfectly in my head. From seeing Patricks tomb location in the graveyard to the being in the library in London, I was able to see them clearly. I can not wait to see what happens to the Proctor sisters in the next install of The Boston Witches!!
I read Mark of the Witch few days before cant wait to finish the second book. As I predicted, the second book is much better even when there's a few unsatisfactory scenes in my opinion. The best thing I like about the book is more details on Caroline, the other twin sister. Normally, it's either a balance with the hero and heroine, but this time, I wont say Caroline is only a supporting character when she's also a heroine. When there's a minor clash between Caroline and Jilly, I was kind very nervous, in case Caroline will lose her way or vice versa. Blood is thicker than water. No matter how bad your sibling is, they're still pat of you. That was what I thought about Patrick, the so-called evil brother of William. There was a twist about him that O would never have guessed, but it happened. All the characters played their part quite good and I was impressed with new powers too (Maybe I just love superheroes and spells too much). Of course, when there's a sequel, means there will be new character as well, and lead to another cliffhanger! As much I love the book, this part made me kind of hate it. In a good way though. I would love to read the author's third book in the series. Hope it will be real soon!
I received an ARC copy of Jessica's book in exchange for an honest review of her book. And honestly, this book was great! First of all I have to say, if you haven't read her first book, Mark of the Witch, please read that one FIRST!! It too is AWESOME!! And I love that this book picks up right there and keeps on going right where Jessica left off!
I have to say, if you love suspense and a book that goes where you think it won't then this is a the book for you!! There is still the hot and heavy romance between Jill and William. We also get a much deeper look at Caroline's life. Oh and what a character she is... Jessica introduces new characters in this book that totally had me guessing the whole time! Are these good guys, bad guys?? WHATS GOING ON??? I won't spoil it for you! All I say, is buy the book and you won't be disappointed!
Then the best part is...she's not done!!! She ends the book with another cliff hanger so we know there is more to come from these Awesome Witch sisters!! This is not the last we'll see of Jessica Gibson! Thank goodness for that!!
I received this book from the author for a review.
This second book in the series follows the first smoothly! Jessica and Carolyn are working on their relationship and so are William and Jessica. (Carolyn is routing for William!).
William's evil brother, Patrick is becoming more powerful and has enlisted the help of William's former lover who is also immortal. Sabine, the lover, kidnaps Carolyn, and her plans backfire. They find she is also seeking a girl named Hanna. Pictures of Hanna show she is living in abject fear.
William and Jill immediately decide to go help Hanna. While rescuing her in London, Patrick escapes from his "prison" at home.
Carolyn goes to Patrick and her and her sister are again at odds.
Why does Patrick want Hanna? Well, you will be amazed with the answer to that!
This is another good book. The scenes are described well and the characters seem realistic. Jessica has a lot of potential story lines to follow!
A copy of this book was provided to me by Promotional Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. The book starts up about 3 months after the last book ends, and its just as good as the first one. The similarities to Charmed have ended. Caroline has accepted her witch side, and everything seems to be going pretty well. While reading the book, there were some questions that came up immediately that took awhile to be answered. I feel like they should have been answered more quickly than they were. At times, it was the lack of the answers that made me question the credibility of the story line. But that's all the I really have issues with. I've accepted that the setting is mostly somewhere near or in Boston, only because its told to me. I still like Jilly and William. Caroline's actions completely turned me against her, until the end of the book where I sort of felt some sympathy towards her. I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens.
I want to thank Jessica Gibson for giving me a copy to read and review.. Love every word and everything just flow together! Now on to the review! So glad everything is going good for Jilly and William in the love department but all the other things that is going on is just crazy trying to find a girl name Hannah. Dealing with other things that come their way. Jilly gets a new power as well but it turns out she always had it and just never notice. You also find out some things about Jilly and Carolina's grandmother and mother. Also Sabin is back once again but this time she is working for someone. This same someone is wanting Caroline and the new character Hannah. We also get to meet Patrick and let me tell you I'm rooting for him and once you read the story for yourself you will know why. I can't wait to see what is in store for everyone. This should be very interesting to see how it all plays out. *Cough Cough Jessica* LOL!! Make sure you get your copy of Chasing the Witch!!
Jessica Gibson, you did it again! Thank you for this book!
Best part of the book: You I just can't pick one character or one particular part of the book that I "loved" because IT WAS ALL GREAT! I have to say that this one is my favorite (so far) of the series. All the character are backed and the magic is flowing! I loved that we see more of Caroline. Not to mention that Jilly and Will are still together and their relationship is blossoming. Now, that seems like a lot going on but let's add more to the mix: growing powers and Hanna! Oh, Hanna! I just loved her! She has quickly become one of my favorites!!
Not so great about the book: Even though some of the loos ends of Book 1 were now answered; there are now more questions! On top of that, there is a cliffhanger and I am going to have to wait for Book 3! *hangs head* Oh, I hope Jessica is writing right now!
I like both books in the series and would recommend it to anyone, Jessica Gibson is an amazing writer. I truly fell in love with William and Julie, what an amazing love story. I also like the bad boy Patrick, but was not crazy about Caroline. Though I did feel it should have had some real hot steamy magical sex sense. It was like it you read up to the point where it would have of been steamy and then it skip to the part to after the hot steamy. So it made me feel like I was missing something. I wanted the steamy part. If the entwine magic between the witches and their warlocks was amazing just by a simple touch, just think what it would of been like when they made love. I like the fact Patrick was coming around and I hope to see a relationship between his daughter and his brother grow. I am so looking forward to book 3.
After being completely hooked on the Proctor witches from the first book Mark of the Witch I was really excited to read Chasing. After all the bad stuff that went down with Sabine, Liam and Mary 4 months later Jilly has started to think things might just settle down. Emily has a baby, William and Jilly are talking marriage and Caroline has finally got her divorce underway. Unbeknownst to Jilly trouble is brewing. William's brother Patrick, the evil warlock and fellow amaranthine breaks out of his prison with a mission. Is he up to no good or can he redeem himself? The ending was quite the cliff hanger so I am anxiously awaiting the next one! Get writing Jessi!
Jessica does it again with "Chasing the Witch! I was totally hooked from the first page right to the end just like with book 1 in the series 'Mark of the Witch'. Filled with magic, mystery and suspense, it will keep you reading until the end. Beware, there is a great cliffhanger at the end and now I can't wait to read what happens next. Highly recommended for all that love a bit of magick and paranormal romance.
This review is based on a complimentary copy from the author which was provided for an honest review.
She did it again! This book was just fantastic. There were so many surprises and whoa moments of this book!! William finally has his mate Jilly and they are reading to start there life together when of course something happens. Sabine is up to something, Patrick reveals a huge secret, some new characters join the story! A vampire wants the girls! I was hooked from page one and the ending oh the ending had my mouth in the floor!! It was a just a great part of an amazing series!
Jilly and William are finding balance in their relationship, when she finds out Caroline is in love with Patrick. Then the story twists further and you find out someone wants the girls, and has wanted them for years. This story is funny, sexy, magical and unique. I can't wait to find out what happens after that cliffhanger event! WaAR
This is the 2nd book in the series about Caroline and Jilly's run with bad luck. Just when you think the storm has ended you got another thing coming...the girls in bark on the hardest things they will ever do. The are going to struggle and really test there relationship.
Continuing the story of Jill, William and crew, a lot of extra characters are brought in as they try to save a young girl that Jill can sense is in danger. I liked this second book less than the first. Mostly, because Jill does a boatload of hysterical yelling and crying. Ugh. Be a grownup, already!
I love this book. Although this is the only book I've read in this series as of yet. I look forward to reading more. I absolutely love the story. The characters are amazing. Well written. I am pleased to say I recommend this book, actually, the whole series.
