3.5 stars for this opening book to a new series. I always enjoy when a book takes on a new take of things and this one had that feel. There are a few things going on in this story, with the Retrievers and their council, the Vamps and their council, as well as the mystery of who killed Ethan.

From the beginning, I had a little trouble with the names. I'm not sure if it was because I just could not picture Micah being a vampire or what, but I kept getting confused as to which was which. This pretty much carried on throughout the story, but again, I think that was more my problem than anything else.

I really liked Conner's character, though I thought the mating thing happened a little too casually. It felt a little odd for Micah to be the dominant one, but I liked them together, even though there seemed to be a spark missing here and there. Perhaps I'll have a better feel for the characters as I get further into this story in future books.

One thing that also bugged me were the little questions that kept coming up but were never answered, such as Conner wanting to know about Micah being short, since vampires were always tall. Not extremely relevant to the story perhaps, but still an unanswered question about Micah's background maybe.

And, since this story seemed to end just when it was really getting going, I'm hoping to find out more in the next segment.

Oh I loved this book, and what a nice start it was for a series.

RJ Scott created a beautiful background for this adventure through species. Werewolves, Vampires, Fae (although the latter didn’t made an appearance in this first book), a world trapped in old traditions and royal clans along with pure blooded arrogance. It all painted a scenery that promises action and war impending, strong love fated to struggle through fights that are not easy won, and love lost leaving back pain and hurt.

The Vampire Contract focuses on Micah and Connor. Micah is a Vampire accused for the murder of his own husband by the Glintir Court, the one responsible for applying justice and law on all the paranormal species. When Micah runs away Glintir Court Retriever Connor Strand, a Werewolf, is tasked to bring him back. Connor is one of the best, however he is in for a surprise when it appears that this little Vampire is not that easy a job and to top it all his wolf gets in the way when he recognizes Micah as his mate.

Connor faces the difficulty of struggling with his emotions, with the truth that is slowly unveiled and with a whole new amount of knowledge that threatens everything he ever believed in to be true and just. The most important thing of all though is that his love for Micah is undeniable and he’s going to face that his one true mate is faced with death.

A lovely, lovely story that had many treats that truly fascinate me. Werewolves being nearly feral, instincts that were demanding but placed in a logic frame, Vampires that were charming and seductive and enticing and sexy as Hell, magic thrown in there for good measure. A chase that went wrong, a love lost never to be found, a new love rising in the middle of ashes. The relationship between Micah and Connor was almost funny, it started in the middle of them trying to kill each other and right when you think one of them is going to end up dead, heat goes up and all things go South with base instincts taking over. It was also tinged with a dramatic layer when realization hit the pair that one or both of them are facing death straight in the eye.

In the end, after a very entertaining read, this book leaves you with the distinct feeling that not only it didn’t end, but this whole adventure just begun, and honestly I can’t wait for the next installment to come out. Anticipation is a very annoying thing when you have no patience at all. So in any case I strongly recommend this for all the lovers of the paranormal genre and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

Did I miss something? Wasn't Ethan his bro's love and shit? Or were they "married" so that Ethan could be near Joseph?

Okay, that shit got cleared up. But...

Since this is GR and GR is subjective, I can say what I want.
I wanted Micah to bottom. Seriously.
It's just...
something about the vamp topping the were is just so cliched...and before, during the UST section, it was heavily implied Connor would top...and then suddenly "I want you to fuck me soooo bad. Like you wouldn't believe."

After that my reaction to anything that came up was pretty much just

I also take offense at where it ended.

Well...it was good while the good lasted...

I really enjoyed it but you can tell when some first books are really big world builders. While I loved this novel I think that the next ones will be awesome because of the worldbuilding that was done in this one. It will only get bigger and better in my opinion.

The relationship dynamics were great the plot idea was wonderful. They baddies havent really come into it (only on the outskirts of things) I think when we get to see more danger etc it will become even better.

Highly recommend for a fun easy read with some snark and vamp/wolf loving.

I loved Connor. His wolf recognised his mate before his human side did. Micah fought his attraction for quite a while. A joining that shouldn’t have really happened - a wolf and vampire.

Micah Jamieson is a vampire who has been found guilty of murdering his husband. Connor Strand is a werewolf sent by Glitnir, the supernatural law enforcement, to retrieve Micah and bring him in for execution. Several things baffle poor Connor though that shake his entire belief system.
I'm not a big fan of shifter books but Ms Scott penned or typed a winner in this great beginning to a new series. It seems like the story takes place in the present so there wasn't a lot of world building that needed doing. I loved both Micah and Connor who were rich characters and not your typical werewolf or vampire. The constant snarky arguing between the two had me laughing out loud. The Council at Glitnir and its laws along with the vampire hierarchy was well developed and set the stage for future books. The introduction of magic and the mind link between Micah and his twin was an interesting twist. I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for Connor as he tried to reconcile his feelings and his wolf's feelings for Micah. There really weren't many secondary characters other than Micha's twin brother Joseph who will probably be developed more in the next book. Plot twists and turns and several subplots held my interest and left me looking forward to the next installment. This story was Micah and Connor all the way and I heartily recommend you joining in on the adventure.

When Retriever Conner does not return to the Glitnir Court with the body of Vampire killer Micah fellow Retriever Declan is sent to find him. Declan likes to work alone however when, against his wishes he is paired with the Incubus assassin Levi, a man he has feelings for, who knows what will happen.

Conner is Declan’s best friend and Declan is sure Conner must be dead or bewitched. It soon becomes clear however that Conner is neither, all evidence points to Conner having joined the Underground, a secret organization determined to overthrow the Glitnir Court and the alliance of races. Levi wants to find the Underground, he has questions over the death of his parents that only the Underground can answer, so Declan is forced to confront his own beliefs and decide what he wants more, Levi, or to protect the only authority he believes in.

I loved all the twists and turns to this story but there are no plot gaps so while it is complicated, and knowledge of the first book is recommended, it is easy to follow as it has just enough included backstory to make sense. I love all the different races RJ introduces us to and Levi with his ability to ‘see’ and feed from emotions is my favorite character so far. RJ Scott has an amazing ability to add layer upon layer to a story with each chapter she writes and this series is shaping up nicely, I can’t wait to read the next book.

Hmmm...

I like this until I didn't. I know I'm not making any sense, but seriously, this started off good and then Connor and Micah changed too quickly. One minute they hate each other and the next not so much.

There were some unanswered questions:
1. So can Micah really hear Connor? If so, how? Both times it happened it was from Connor's POV and I wanted at least one reference from Micah's.

2. Why did Connor change his mind?

3. Why do vamps not heal from wolf injuries?

4. So they bonded. What does that mean exactly? Are they life bonded?

I didn't really buy the romance. It was more of a my wolf wants you so here I am. I felt that way throughout the entire story, even when Connor said it wasn't just his wolf. I did love the sweet moments, Connor in Micah's lap. Micah in Connor's lap.

Overall, I'll be reading on :)

A Recommended Book!
I loved the world RJ created; it reminded me of the fantasy books I read years ago, a world steeped in traditions, royalty and separatism.
I also have to say I love the idea that within a werewolf the wolf and human parts can think and act separately, evidenced by the fact that Connor’s wolf side recognised his mate long before Connor realises the truth of it. I also found the book quite humorous, I loved the snarkiness of the conversations between Micah and Connor peppered throughout the book, half the time I couldn’t stop laughing.

This book really did a good job in laying out the ground work for the books to come. The love/hate relationship between Micah and Strand had me wanting to slap them both a bit but worked wonderfully for their chemistry. I'm looking forward to reading more and learning more about the Underground and the progress they'll make.

R.J. Scott wrote an interesting first book in "Supernatural Bounty Hunters". I admit of being highly impressed. Sure the main storyline is nothing extra, or even special, but even so, I liked it a lot. Micah and Connor are the MC's in this story. The arguments between them were full of humor and anger. Their dialogues were an enjoyable part of this story.

Sort of meh. For some reason I didn't connect that these were fantasy and not contemporary with supernatural elements. That might have made a difference, I don't know. I just wasn't that interested, or invested, in the characters. It wasn't bad, by any means, it just didn't grab me.

As a Senior Retriever for the Glitnir Court, wolf shifter Connor Strand is usually sent after the difficult retrievals, and he always gets his man. This time his orders are either bring home accused murderer vampire Micah Jamieson, so he can get his affairs in order before he is executed, or bring home his body separated from his head in a box. Connor doesn’t question his orders, his loyalty to the court is unquestionable, and Micah has been found guilty and must pay with his life.

Micah swears he didn’t kill his husband, and when Connor catches up with him he has no plans on going back with him or allowing him to terminate his life. It doesn’t take long for Connor’s wolf to recognize his mate, too bad the man doesn’t feel the same way. Between Micah’s insistence that he’s innocent and Connor’s wolf not allowing him to kill him, Connor soon realizes this is not going to be as easy a retrieval as he first thought. Add his attraction to the vampire and his feelings that the Glitnir Court might have made a mistake, and soon Connor finds himself trying to defend Micah instead of kill him.

Ms. Scott gives us a world of alliances between supernaturals and all the court intrigue that inherently goes with it, packed into a novella that grabs the reader’s attention from the very first line and doesn’t let go until the end. There is more than a little bit of humor wandering through the pages and some pretty good fight scenes along with a steaming love scene or two, all bundled up with Connor and Micah’s quest for the truth while they run for their lives.

There is one scene early in the story where the two are fighting and rolling around, snarling and biting and stabbing and kicking, that was so well written I really did see it happening in my mind. I’ll admit I also saw a little bit of the old cartoons where the cat and dog fight and all you see is this big ball with the occasional foot or arm popping out. In the opposite spectrum, the love scenes are so sensual that I felt like I was intruding and was humbled by the feelings of these two men. Warning here, this is an erotica novella so there is some graphic sex between men.

This was a good story and short enough that I read it in one seating but long enough to keep me involved. I did have one little niggle (I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t), I felt the Glitnir Court needed a little more explanation and I had a little problem trying to figure out if we were in the future and where we physically were. When it comes right down to it, I’m all about being told a good story, and this was a good story, so I’m a happy reader.

Take one small, lithe, studious vampire with a mysterious twin and one determined, blindly loyal werewolf and throw them into a situation that is fraught with tension, and danger and you should have a recipe for disaster. Particularly when the wolf decides that the vampire is not the quarry but the very thing which must be protected at all cost.

RJ Scott's The Vampire Contract takes us on a fast-paced adventure where most things are more than meets the eye. Connor Strand has unquestioningly served the Glitnir Council for years, doggedly rounding up its criminals for swift and merciless justice in order to protect his own family from the Council's deadly grip. Contracted to serve out a sentence as a retriever for crimes his family supposedly committed, Connor takes great pride in his captures and the takedown of Micah will be business as usual for him, or so he thinks.

Micah has been falsely accused of killing his human husband and is on the run to find the only person who can possibly have the ability to clear his name and keep him safe, his elusive twin brother. The two men meet, hunter and prey, and the impossible happens when Connor realizes his inner wolf has indeed found his mate in no one other than Micah. Now the chase is on--but both men have suddenly become the hunted.

I will unabashedly admit that I enjoyed this little novella immensely. RJ Scott has grown and matured as a writer and her stories, while tending on the shorter side, are packed with action, interesting plot lines and enough twists and turns to keep this reader plenty happy.

In a short space and time, she develops her characters giving them great emotional depth and, in this instance, paves the way for the next offering in this series without sacrificing the current story. All to often, I see secondary characters thrown into novels for the sake of priming the reader for the next installment, rather than for plot development. Not so with The Vampire Contract--here each member of the cast is important to the main action and there are no "throw away" roles for the sake of continuing the series.

I am intrigued with this new series and I have often remarked that when it comes to the paranormal genre there is more fluff than substance. In The Vampire Contract, RJ Scott gives us a new twist on an old and familiar story and keeps our interest piqued and hungry for more.

Never before has Retriever Connor Strand failed in his duties to bring back a criminal on the run. This vampire however is turning his whole world on its tail.

Proof of Micah Jamieson’s innocence is locked away in a place that will take both him and his brother to access, yet it is highly unlikely he will live long enough to retrieve it.

Getting Micah back to Glitnir Court is all Connor has to do, as it is no concern of his whether the man thinks he is innocent or not. His wolf however has other ideas. Micah must find Joseph if he is to keep his head, which means he needs to ignore his ever growing feelings for Connor. This is not the time or the place for romance, yet for Connor there is no denying his wolf.

There is a great deal of intrigue packed into the short glimpse we get of Micah and Connor’s lives. They have so much more to tell, that I am sure book two cannot come soon enough. I like that the big tough wolf has no problem showing his less dominant side, but I would also like to see Micah’s true nature as well. This ended way too soon with very little resolved, yet it does make you very anxious for more.

I really liked this book! I love the flow of the way it was writing. But there was a few times I couldn't quite figure out the movements of the characters, especially during the fight scene in the beginning of this book.

Micah and Connor are a great couple and I fully enjoyed their interactions. I had a giggling fit when Connor's wolf side made his opinion quite clear about how they felt about Micah. I have to say, I never read a reaction quite like that where the human side was so in denial that he couldn't comprehend that he had found their true mate.

Although, some of the tension that came from denying attraction was meet in a more brutal desperation then I've ever seen, it still worked for me. I just wish that some more tenderness was expressed during the acceptance of their relationship. I'm still not sure at what point Connor finally decided that he did in fact find his true mate. His sudden acceptance without cause stumped me slightly.

But still, I am truly happy with this book and plan to read it again. Even with the slightly hanging feel that the book left at the end. It did seem on the side of unfinished, I hope that it will continue on in the next book.

Another amazing book from the wonderful Ms Scott

Werewolves and Vampires, want more can a girl ask for?

Connor Strand is a werewolf, working as a Retriever for Glitnir Court.
His newest assignment is to find and return with vampire Micah Jameson, who is wanted for murder of his human husband.
Finding Micah is the easy part for Connor, but when his wolf side decides it wants the vampire as a mate, trouble starts for both of them.
Connor most certainly not wants the vampire, does he?

Luckily for us, his wolf is a strong one, and initiates some very hot kissing….
But also a lot of problems, because Connor has to bring Micah back to the Court, even when Micah kind of persuades him of his innocence of the murder.

The book is a great read and I read it in one go last night. Two wonderful characters, a lot of hotness, feelings, fighting and kissing…

So exited about the next book “The Guilty Werewolf”

Wow, did this ever catch me by surprise, all in a good way. I got this because 1. It's R.J.Scott, and 2. the series is subtitled Supernatural Bounty Hunters. How could I resist? Obviously, I didn't put up any resistance.

This is the story of Micah, a vampire wanted for the murder of a human. He is being hunted by Connor a werewolf bounty hunter. Their world is so well done, that I felt like it really existed, that I could actually go there. Micah is looking for his twin, Connor is looking for Micah, vampire and werewolves don't mix, till these two meet. I was treated to a wonderful, push pull romance between the two as seen through the wolf part of Connor. Micah and Connor's internal dialogues would be enough for any book, but the race to find Micah's twin is page turning goodness. I loved every page, every word, every scene in this story.

I give it a illicit love affair full of stars

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

Scott wrote the story as if we are already familiar with the situation and world. Although this could have proved problematic, enough contextual information is provided that we are able to use our imaginations along with the character’s interaction to fill in the blanks. Letting us, the reader, fill in the blanks about the history and world we have entered made me feel more involved and invested in the outcome.
