Running away from his mother and obnoxious stepfather to live with his father, a successful surfing photographer, Jim Nichols resents his father's plans to abandon him again and sets out to prove himself by surfing in perilous waters
The that I chose to read is called Impact Zone by Ray Maloney. This story had a lot of imagery through out it. I could really see the setting. The main character is Jim. He is just trying to live the hard normal teenage life.
Jim is a pretty normal 15 year old boy in high school. He lives in California. He loves to surf and paint. His parents divorced and he hasn't seen his dad in forever. He lives with his step dad and his mom.
His dad visits and comes back to California and takes him out for a little bit. Eventually his dad leaves and he doesn't want him to go but his dad has to. He then decides to leave and run away and take a plane to Hawaii. He decides to with the amazing idea to steal their Christmas money and run away with it. He very soon encounters a lot of problems though. The trip just to get to the airport takes a lot.
Eventually he gets to there. He quickly doesn't know what to do and is very overwhelmed. He doesn't know who to trust or what to do. Without ruining what happens basically he just wants to be with his dad.
This book was a pretty easy fast read. I was very interested in most of the book. It was very interesting to read about a kid my age from the 80's. Life was very different as a kid back then. Someone who would like this book, would be anyone interested in reading about another kid with problems similar to kids now a days.
