Ten years after the zombie plague has been contained, the noble Philip must travel into the kingdom of the dead to rescue the prisoner Aurora, who was kidnapped as a child and raised among the dead. But even if he can survive the legions of the dead, after so much time, will the princess be in any condition worth saving?

Thank you Kevin Richey for giving the world 12 wonderfully twisted tales! I can’t tell you how sad I am that this is the end of Zombie Fairy Tales, but what a great finish to them. Sleeping Beauty was exciting and dark and totally wonderful. Even though you don’t see that much of Aurora in the book I felt a real connection to her and really cared about what happened to her. Philip was a true prince, totally selfless for his true love. I have loved each and every one of these books and I can't wait to see what Kevin Richey writes next.
This is the final story set in the world we've known throughout the series so far, and it's certainly the biggest finale - we meet just about every character, there's fighting, zombie feasting, a battle to save the princess from the evil queen... Awesome!
As someone who's not really into zombies, I wasn't sure I would enjoy these stories, but as a free boxset (it was on offer when I bought it), I thought it was worth a look as I do love fairytales, and I wasn't disappointed. They are both very different from, and yet contain very clear nods to the originals. All have zombie plague themes running through them, and you need to read through them in the boxset order as there are references to the earlier stories in the later ones. These are definitely not for children, as they are very violent and often disturbing stories, but if you like fairytale retellings and/or zombies, this is definitely a set of short stories for you!
{My Thoughts} – Kevin Richey did a brilliant job combining all twelve of the stories into one larger story. Each story can be read alone or they can be read together, but each story helps you to visualize a the bigger picture, the imagery he was trying to get across about Sleepy Hollow and what it would be like if Zombies would have taken over the fairytale world as opposed to the sweet fairytales we have all grown to enjoy and love.
Philip as we had met in a previous story wants to go out on an expedition outside the safe walls to find princess Aurora. She had been kidnapped by the Evil Queen many years previously right before Phillips very eyes. He has always held out hope that she would still be alive and that he would one day be her knight in shining armor and rescue her from her captivity with the the Evil Queen.
One day Phillips friend Jack tells him about the guy Rip Van Winkle that just work up and has no idea about what was going on because he’d been asleep for the past ten years. Rip says he will pay anyone handsomely that wants to go beyond the walls with him in search of his daughter. He is already aware that his wife had passed. So Phillip and Jack see and opportunity to try and rescue Aurora.
Does Rip find his daughter? Do Phillip and Jack live to rescue Aurora? Is Aurora even alive anymore after all these years? There are so many questions, but once you conclude this story many of them that you have had while reading the set of stories will be answered. I am aware that there is now a 13th bonus fairytale available if you buy the complete Zombie Fairytale series on Amazon, it is something to look into if you are interested in one more story.
I highly recommend these stories for those that enjoy retellings and like to have things shaken up a bit with the walking dead!
It's really hard to say the fullness of my experience with this tale, nonetheless I shall do my best. From the moment I began reading this last installment of Kevin Richey's tales, I could not stop. I had to know what would happen next, even if the obstacles that got in the way made me tense and on edge, I had to know. One thing I loved (possibly the most) about this installment compared to the rest was the fluidity: Instead of feeling like I was reading a story, I felt like I was watching it--or rather living it with Philip and Aurora, as well as the other characters they've encountered. It is both dark and magical (and faintly comical, if you see through the hardships), both elements that I love dearly. How he has woven all twelve stories at the end was, indeed, brilliant, creating it to be in one world. The last few pages (which I must admit, I almost cried) were examples of the weaving of a perfect ending to this type of series. I do hope (and wish) that Kevin Richey will continue with this series, if only to catch a glimpse of what he feels would be the future of the kingdoms. All in all, however, I am excited for and about this rising artist of the written word and can not wait for his next project to surface!
I received a free copy of this ebook for my honest review.
This was by far my favorite in this series. Richey took the tale of Sleeping Beauty and gave it a wonderfully dark twist.
Philip and Princess Aurora knew each other as children in a world that was being encroached upon by the living dead. Aurora was taken by the Evil Queen and Philip grew up wondering if she was dead or alive. I loved the main characters in this one. The story of Philip and Aurora had a depth to them that was more than some of the previous stories. I also loved how former characters and other fairytale characters made appearances. And this one wasn't quite as gorey as some of the others.
All of the Zombie Fairytales have been wickedly fun reads, but this one was the best of all of them. I had hoped for a slightly different ending but I guess then it wouldn't have fit with the rest of the series. Overall, I loved this one and would suggest it to anyone who enjoys zombies.
Finally I got a chance to read the ending of the series. Sleeping Beauty's dark twist adventure into the underground undead. Had too many dead ends for me.
I'm a huge fan of Richey's work. I actually did an interview with Kevin about his series when #4 hit the shelves. As I move into "The Screams of Pocahontas" (the special story add to full collection) which I scored for. .99 cents and feel like I had an impact in the outcome of Full collection. (My question; Do you plan on combining the full series into one book?)
Where is Kevin Richey? I miss his writing and need to see the next installment to the Unloved Ones.
Loved this book. I thought Kevin Richey did an amazing job. I liked how he treated the Evil Queen in this one. I wonder if anyone else figured out which story Jack was from. I loved the throw in of so many characters and the reconnecting to characters from past. I would love it the author wrote more in the series. I know he said he was only doing the 12, but I think he could keep going and each story would be awesome.
I've come to really enjoy Kevin Richey's dark twist on our beloved fairy tales. Its very sad to see this end. Well done to Kevin on maintaining his book a month goal! I really look forward to seeing what he comes up with next.
Loved it but feel sad that it's all over and there is no more. He did kind of leave it open to continue. These stories were amazing. Highly recommend these to anyone who loves a good horror story. Warning though not for the faint at heart or anyone with a weak stomach.
