Tori is twenty-three, with a temper to match her flaming red hair.
Smith Wittingham is older, insanely wealthy, and loves to make redheads angry.
When Tori shows up at Smith's secluded cabin in Vermont for a typing contract, their sparks threaten to burn everything down. What they don't know is that each has a secret that's too painful to reveal.
Book 1: Smith vows to keep his hands to himself, but Tori doesn't care for rules. When she looks into his beautiful eyes, she wants to be naked, in every way.
Erotic Romance Series - contains EXPLICIT SEX with an emotionally damaged alpha male, including rough sex, BDSM, and roleplaying. This is not a sweet romance. M/F, 18+.
7/10 - Not a fan of this 'publish part of a book' trend that's going around. It makes it difficult to review any single 'part' of a book without feeling annoyance due to the fact that I've only read a short quarter of what will likely be a short book, and annoyance is likely to lead to low ratings.
The story was okay, a bit similar to some more famous billionaire man/secretary-style woman books, but that's not altogether surprising as billionaire men paired with more working class women seems to be another trend that's going around at the moment. The writing was a bit choppy and the characters were not particularly well developed, possibly they will be further developed in later 'parts' but I'm not going to assume a criticism I have will be resolved in a later book. This has been published as a book, so I'm going to review it as a book. In my opinion, a book should be complete in and of itself. You shouldn't need to read a second book in order to understand the first. I found Tori a bit weak and Smith a bit needlessly inscrutable. Tori makes decisions or gives Smith ultimatums and then within seconds she's gone back on everything that she decided was right for her, and is in most cases back in bed (or wherever) with Smith. I have no idea who Smith is, we don't know anything about his family, how he got into writing, exactly where he earned all his billions (sure he's an author, but most authors don't actually end up being J.K. Rowling rich), or how old he really is. Tori is a college student so we have to assume that she's in her early 20s and she considers him to be 'old', but for a 20-year-old 'old' could be anywhere from 35 up. Oh and Smith is a dreadful first name, just saying.
The editing was pretty good, except for the fact that the editor didn't catch the lack of characterisation, weak characters, or the fact that the book has been hacked into multiple parts. I wonder... Is it chopped up because the author wants more money for the book so figures that selling it in small parts for small amounts of money will eventually add up to a higher price for the full book than she would have been able to get selling it all in one go at one higher price? Or is the author a slow writer who doesn't feel capable of turning out the whole book in one go in a reasonable period of time? Or maybe the author has no say in how her book has been published and all blame should be laid at the publisher's feet? Don't know, but it's the author who is most hurt (after the readers) by this decision.
Mimi is just that kind of author. Once you read one of her books, you know what you are going to get (in general) with all of them. The love interests will be total pricks but you will still love them. The females will be a nice mix of strong and a bit submissive. The sex will get freaky. And that’s just Mimi’s writing style charm. Her books are like no other and I adore her for that.
Typist #1 (the first of a serial) was a great short spurt of erotic weirdness. I loved the concept. Tori is ghostwriting for Smith, a very famous author. They do this in his secluded cabin. Obviously, they have lots of sex during down time. What the hell else is there to do? Tori kinda hates Smith for most of the book, but she can’t help her vagina from wanting him. It’s like the whole “Don’t talk, just lay still so I can do things to your body for my pleasure,” concept. Smith is at his best with his mouth shut.
I like where this series is going. I want to see what these two get themselves into. The writing was good and the story kept my interest the whole time.
The Bad
Obviously, this is a serial, and I knew that going in, but it doesn’t negate the fact that I hate books that end in the middle of the story. UGH, it’s like I am cursed with non-endings this week.
Smith is not romantic at all. He is a complete asshole. Sometimes I like that when the character has redeeming qualities, but I haven’t seen any of those yet. So Smith got too douchy for me sometimes.
The Snuggly
The sex is hot, but it’s also weird and kinda degrading. But I was cool with that. No judgment for odd bedroom gymnastics.
Final Thoughts
I am already on Typist #2 and am loving it. Smith gets more bearable. Yay. So I think this is going to be a fun series. Recommended.
Quotes
“Do you have any pets back home?”
“I have no home.” He scratched his neck again. “I’d like a nice little bitch who comes when I call her.”
I nearly choked on the tea I was sipping. I set down the cup and filled my plate with scrambled eggs and toast, not commenting.
He continued, “A nice, submissive bitch. She’d roll on her back and show me her tummy like a good girl.”
“Sounds about your speed,” I said. “It would make you feel like such a big man to be around someone you’re smarter than.”
I fully expected Typist to be a short read that I could race through, write a quick and snarky review about how damn patronising the assumption that women - the main market for these types of books - are only interested in billionaires is, and delete, feeling vindicated.
I certainly raced through Typist. I'm going to have to skip the snarky review though, because actually I loved it. There's all kinds of reasons I should've hated it. The whole billionaire cliche. A hero who had no discernible redeeming qualities and was, frankly, manipulative and loathsome on all kinds of levels. A heroine who... well, her sex drive is like that of a 14 year old boy.* My god. It gets a bit ridiculous after a while. And, last but certainly not least, the whole "dog" thing. That kind of scene is usually the type to make me throw a book at the wall and swear never to read anything the author has written ever again. And yet, I didn't hate it. It was quite hot actually, in a weird let's-not-think-about-this-too-much kind of way.
So, why didn't these things bother me? Because it was so damn well written. There are a lot of terribly written books, both in this genre and self-publishing** in general, so to read Typist and not only not notice any errors but actually enjoy the writing and laugh out loud at times*** was a huge treat. I'll definitely keep an eye out for other books by this author.
*Despite this, she was actually rather likeable. "She wasn't just some cardboard sex object, but a real person, with a sense of humour and a strong will. She was exactly the kind of woman he never put in his novels. I loved her." Although she fancies the hero (be a bit of a shit book if she didn't wouldn't it?) she sensibly is very clear on what a tosser he is and makes funny little digs all the time. **I can't say for definite that this is self-published by the by, I'm simply making the assumption as there are only ebook versions. ***Not just technically correct, but also hilarious.
A cute short read and introduction the the series.
In book one Tori arrives at the cabin where she is going to stay for two weeks as a typist for the billionaire detective novelist Smith Wittingham. As they begin the task of the novel there are plenty of sexual innuendos and flirting. But Smith might not be the one seducing the young woman sent to work for him. Tori might just have a few tricks up her own sleeve.
This is a novelette and a very cute, steamy and with absolutely no grip on reality one. I think that's why the half hour it took to read it was fun. Great little light story to break all the recent heavy reading.
This is a very funny and interesting start to this series! You gotta love these characters! Smith is very creative, but not just as a writer. Tori is smart enough to realize the games Smith is playing but goes and plays along. Can't wait to read the next story!
I tend to like novellas and serials for the most part because the story moves quickly. Unfortunately the fact they move quickly tends to be a negative when eacch chapter is surrounded by sex, sex and more sex. So rarely do the chapters contain actual character development. Sometimes that's okay and sometimes I sort of find I'm bored.
The premise of this one follows a red-headed college grad who types 100 wpm or 90 if she takes her time. On a random job offer through her agency she gets hired to type for a reclusive author. Upon arrival she discovers he's the virtual James Patterson of this literary world. Once there she types a novel that is remarkably like that is one she's currently living out and they proceed to have crazy, monkey sex.
Part one is relatively short and about 75% of it is innuendo and crazy sex. While I have no issue with crazy sex and often enjoy all kinds of erotic romance, I was disappointed. This was not sex which I thought was so sexy I just had to keep reading. It was awkward, unnecessary, and sort of...offputting. I'm fine with the romance one-night stand that leads to more but this was not that kind of thing.
There was a scene that stands out in my mind where Smith (the author) tells Tori (the typist) all about his desire for a border collie. It was clearly a euphemism for sex slave or at least a submissive. The resulting scene contained Tori crawling into the bathroom on her hands and knees with a brush in her mouth. She proceeds to act the part of loyal dog until they have crazy sex. I have no issue with fantasy and even odd fantasy but...I found the scene unsettling considering they had no relationship or much of anything up until that point. I couldn't back fantasy role-playing at this point because it seemed weird for two people who didn't know each other. It made me think of a hired woman to play a role rather than a heroine of a romance.
I'll continue with the series at this point but I hope there is a little character development in the future. I cannot back a romance between two people who only have sex and never actually progress as people.
Random afterthought: What's with all the italicized words? It's really off-putting.
Second random afterthought: Never call a man's penis, a thick sausage. Just don't.

Overall, I liked this short story. It has a really good premise, which is what drew me in. The writing is pretty compelling, too. I took a liking to Tori right from the start and couldn't help laughing at her behavior when she encountered the "killer moose". I don't know anyone who would willingly head off into the wilderness, cut off from civilization as far as she knows, just for a healthy paycheck, however. But this is fantasy, and I am always willing to chuck reality for a bit so this didn't really bother me.
What did bother me was the all-consuming attraction she had to this author she finds herself working for. Smith is an ass, plain and simple, and yet she is willing to make an utter fool of herself for him. Granted, if you can look past his appalling behavior you might be able to lose yourself in their steamy encounters, but some of it made me grimace. I'm still undecided if I will read on. The writing is good, as I said, but this is a series of short stories, and I'm not much for bits and pieces when following the same couple, especially when one of them rubs me wrong--I want the whole thing! I am curious to see if Smith will redeem himself in the end, and that might be the deciding factor. Only time will tell.
This was a great start to the typist series! As I was reading the story, I was getting more and more drawn into the complex character of Smith. I couldn't get enough of him. I wanted to be inside his head. He was the typical dominant alpha male but as I was reading, I sensed that there was something deeper inside but couldn't or wouldn't come out. The sex scenes, oh my goodness, were hott!! It was getting intense for me as I was reading and I couldn't get enough! Tori was the perfect contrast to Smith and they seemed to complement each other. I wasn't sure I was going to like this series because of the "bad boy" nature of Smith but that is what kept drawing me into the story and I wanted to read more. Interested to read the rest of the series! Great start!
Typist #1 ~ Working for the Billionaire Novelist is set in a cabin in the Vermont wooded mountains. From the moose to the cell phone in the water glass these two characters push and pull at each other as they find they can't resist getting hot and busy. The humor that Mimi Strong includes makes this a funny little dirty story with great potential for what comes next. The doggie scene has been found degrading by other readers but it is just a play scene with each partner having a good time as they each try to manipulate the other. A little conflict makes for a good story and without it a very dull one. By the end of the series, it will be interesting to see who ends up in control with these two.
I do not like to show interest in a book if an author takes what should be one book and splits it in to a zillion pieces! But this author, whom I have never read her work, offered all 4 books for free and I downloaded every single one and read one right after the other. I loved these characters and the story was body humming hot! Thank you for the humor, class of writing hot sizzling scenes and providing me with a great few days with this spectacular duo! Love it and will miss both main characters like mad! Yummy book, awesome writer, sexy, funny, frustrating, maddening and worth paying for! No fluff here just honest and great writing! (Shared this review on all 4 parts)!
I read all four instalments of Billionaire Novelist together, so this will be a blanket review of the complete story.
The whole story was fairly fast-paced, very hot, somewhat naughty, and actually quite funny in places.
Tori is a feisty redhead, who takes a two-week typing job (as she really needs the money), for a mysterious author, in a secluded cabin in Vermont.
The author turns out to be her mother’s favourite author, Smith, who’s a lot older and extremely sexy. He’s supposed to come across as a tough guy but we see glimpses of his vulnerability.
Their attraction is immediate. As the story unfolds, it’s revealed that Tori is not completely unknown to Smith. Also, Smith’s own troubled past is divulged.
All in all, a pretty good, fun, erotic story with snappy dialogue and laughs.
You know you're in for a treat went just the blurb and title of the first chapter of a book makes you grin and giggle audibly, couple that with a hot-tempered red head and swoon-worthy alpha male and voila you have the first instalment of Mimi Strong's 'Typist' series. The "love hate" relationship between these two wonderful characters will leave you panting for breath in one second only to have you laughing out loud in the next. This series has got me hook, line and sinker. I can't wait for the second instalment :)
As a short story, this book had some OH HOLY HELL moments, some WTF moments, and then a "did she really just do that?" moments. I am not usually not short story reader because I tend to feel shorted. Do I feel shorted from detail and story from this book? Yes. Is it a good thing that it keeps going? Yes. I am simply intrigued with the man. I didn't feel like it was completely swoon worthy but I am going to read the others because they are quick short reads and I am curious to know where the moose chasing, dog panting, confused characters end up.
Another quick novella that I read in about 90 mins. I really liked this story. The main character the "writer" is oddly interesting and find it so weird that the typist was able to stay around after finding out his inspiration and motives for her. The sexy time in this book was very well written . It will be interesting to see how the rest of the stories continue. I don't know if they are separate stories or the same.
I absolutely loved this entire series. The sex is HOT!!! But you really come to care about the characters. Although Tori is young I love how she's strong and stands up to Smith - who can be a jerk. A hot, sexy jerk. I started this one night thinking, oh it's novellas and I can stop and go to bed soon. No such luck, I kept reading and reading and reading. This is the first I've read from Mimi Strong but it definitely won't be me last! Go for this series when you're in the mood for something hot and fun to read.
Where to begin? I lived the first 60% of the story which is why it got 3 stars. An author is looking for someone to play with while they type his story. Very sexy and steamy, until and yes this is a spoiler, the fantasy turns inti wanting her to act like a dog. The girl was highly upset, rightfully so but then she quite literally rolls over. It just ruined it for me! Had it continued as it started out I would have been blown away! WaAR
I just read this for the second time, loved it as much as the first. One small critique, I hate the use of the word Sausage when referring to the male penis in any sexy book, the word is so unsexy! lol!
Anyway, why did I love this book and give it 5*? Because it's BRILLIANT. So twisted in a way, but come on ladies, fantasize a little here! Hot shot best selling author in the woods with you for two weeks, yummy, now to buy the complete set!
This series started out great the first few pages had me laughing hysterically but it started to waver. I'm just not sure about this series, Smith is a grade A douche to Tori and she just keeps coming back for more. I just don't get this series yet...hopefully I will start to see once reading more. He struck me as odd even during his stint with Lexi too...so we will see how this series progresses.
This was about 50 pages of WTF...maybe some women like to read about overly obnoxious asshole type men (this is what keeps Mimi with a fan base I guess) but I am not one of them. This is another story labeled as erotic but after reading the dog scene I'm going to go with degrading, and I'm normally not offended by anything (other than bad writing). I'm sure the author is a lovely person but this will most likely be the last book I read by her.
Surprisingly, I loved Tori. Smith, not so much. Smith's voice was dry and not at all sexy or even remotely intriguing. There sex was hot, ain't even going to lie about that. What kept the story going was that and Tori. She was lively and funny but I couldn't figure out what the attraction was.
The content wasn't bad and could have been interesting however it just left you hanging after about 2 chapters, the full set isn't available for purchase, and I simply get annoyed by short serials that I have to hunt down and purchase chapter by chapter.
If you can find the set go for it ... might be worth a little personal fun.
1 of 4 in series Tori goes to work as a live in Typist for a very successful author Smith Wittingham. This series follows their attraction to each other their discovery and the final reveal of all truths.
Love the setting, the characters and the witty banter. The heat level in this one is pretty high, and certain scenes I just can't get out of my head (brush, etc.) Can't wait to see where the next installment takes me!
I read this short story for two reasons: the description sounded funny & it was a free ebook available through Amazon. The only thing going for this story is that it was short. I'm not sure which character was more strange. The story also had no substance & was very ridiculous.
A young girl takes a job as a typist for an author. She finds out that she will be working in a remote cabin with him in the woods far from town. It is an interesting story as they develop a almost relationship.
I seriously adore Mimi Strong's writing and this is equal parts whacked and hilarious. I don't even know what to think about Tori and Smith. This is going to be an interesting two weeks for her!
Tori was just finishing college & looking for a job. Then the agency hired her as a typist for two weeks. An author needed a typist for that time. Student loans and other bills awaited her so she took the job.
