John Garros, known to his fans as Spanish Joe for his dark good looks, makes his living as an actor in porn films. As a perfect body double for Hollywood superstar Jason Forrester, he acts in XXX-rated scenes that are inserted into Forrester’s blockbuster movies. He makes good money from the profits of the modified films and spends most of it on parties and vacations, never feeling a twinge of guilt. At least not until he bumps into Jason at a party.

The two men have an instant physical attraction, and Jason surprises Spanish by calling him afterward. Spanish is even more surprised when the one-night stand turns into a budding relationship. Things are going great for him until Jason’s management stumbles over the thriving traffic in “enhanced” Jason Forrester movies. When Jason tells Spanish how much the deceptive DVDs hurt him, Spanish knows he has a big decision to keep his mouth shut and hope Jason never sees the footage, or confess and risk losing everything.

Connie Bailey is a Luddite who can’t live without her computer. She’s an acrophobic who loves to fly, a fault-finding pessimist who, nonetheless, is always surprised when something bad happens, and an antisocialite who loves her friends like family. She’s held a number of jobs in many disparate arenas to put food on the table, but writing is the occupation that feeds her soul.

Connie lives with her ultralight designer husband at a small grass-strip airfield halfway between Disney World and Busch Gardens. Logic and reality have had little to do with her life, and she likes it that way.

Insert Here wasn't what I thought it would be, going by the cover and blurb I was expecting sexy, high voltage chemistry and lots of passionate encounters, I didn't get that, a wasted opportunity and a real disappointment. Spanish and Jason were uninspiring characters and the dialogue was terribly unappealing. Being brutally honest here, I was emotionally detached throughout and had to skip quite a bit. The cover is gorgeous and the only positive I can point out.

The blurb was far better than the story. This tried awfully hard to be breezy and clever, but the result was flat, with a disappointing non-conflict.

I usually love Bailey, but this one was odd for me. Firstly, I didn't really get any of the characters; I hated the nickname Spanish...it grated on me...and the story was just flat.

Aw...I totally expected a different story then the one presented. The story is not horrible just a little disjointed. Some scenes made me question the relevance to the story (like the underage future porn star - why introduce her if she serves not purpose to the plot?). Also the dialogue between characters was sometimes cheesy, awkward and plain weird.

Best part: RuPaul Drag race reference and Scrink, the makeup artist.

Cover = sexy. Blurb = sexy. Book = regret purchasing. I hate when books portray the "gay lifestyle" as one where promiscuity, drug use and partying are the only things that happen. I got put off by the description of the party, and closed the file. This one will go into my "don't read again" folder.

The use of the word "Righteous" irked the hell outta me.

When I read the blurb of Insert Here I thought that this might have an interesting conflict. Porno star meets Hollywood star and falls for him, while the porn star acts as the superstar’s body double in porn scenes that are inserted into his Hollywood movies, without the superstar’s knowledge. The conflict I expected, with this big secret hanging over their blooming new relationship, was merely absent. When the confession finally comes, it’s being taken very lightly and all is swiftly well again. No tension, no angst, no emotional climax. This was a bit of a disappointment for me.

Before this somewhat anti-climax takes place, we witness how the MCs meet. Both Spanish and Jason go to an exclusive annual party for the gay (and secretly gay) people of interest in Hollywood. I thought this was not a very plausible set-up, considering that Jason isn’t out of the closet. However, they spend the night together and after that they continue seeing each other and we are treated to a few sex scenes that are not specifically spectacular, nor memorable.
For me, their falling in love didn’t feel substantial enough; it felt too much like insta-love. The romantic arc consists mainly of a few sex (and talk) scenes without much relationship building and even less character development, which I need before I can find a HEA plausible. I have to know what the heroes see in each other and I want to see their feelings develop.

Another minor aspect that rubbed me slightly the wrong way was the fact that Spanish’s work involved M/F sex with his co-stars. This took place off page, but I wondered why he couldn’t just mainly make gay porn, because than I might’ve enjoyed the peek into the porn industry more.
I’m sure that other readers, and fans of this author’s work, will like this novella a lot better than I did. Unfortunately, for me, this was a bit of an awkward read that didn’t quite meet my expectations.

This review was originally written for MM Good Book Reviews and can also be found there.

What is it about me and porn that I have to grab each book that just mentions it and add it to my read list? Maybe it’s the expectation of naked men making sacrifices for the money they eventually earn, or the conflicts that come of it when they find that perfect someone and need to explain what is it that they actually do.

In this case Spanish/John is a body double for a movie star who makes porn covers of the actual movies for the Asian and European market. He’s got a great body and enough likeness that he’s wanted and makes some good money. It doesn’t hurt that the man he’s portraying on screen is someone he admires.

Then came the party where the two actually meet, with instant attraction, just a tad slower sex and the eventual beginning of something more. What resulted is the everlasting question – to come clean or hope for the best?

The content of this story wasn’t all that explicit or for that matter deep, certainly not what I was expecting. There are some details about filming and a really fast paced development of the relationship, but the main conflict passes just as quickly and at the end there’s not much to this story. The characters weren’t explored enough to give them that necessary significance and although I saw the potential, the author went too quickly about this story to make it significantly enjoyable.

It was nice, but not enough to remember for more than a few days.

This one wasn't entirely what I expected it to be, but there were some aspects I enjoyed. The main conflict ended up almost being a non-issue before the end was wrapped up too quickly.

I liked the characters in this story and the plot was good with really hot sex. What I didn't like was the ending. It seemed to easily forgiven and too rushed.
