Drawing on their own histories of addiction recovery, authors Taite and Scharff examine the unique and highly successful treatment protocol practiced at the Cliffside Malibu Addiction Treatment Center. Using clear and direct language, they look beyond the limits of conventional treatment to show how creating an individualized, evidence-based, and integrated approach that targets the whole person — mind, body, and spirit — not just the addiction, can provide a sure path to recovery. In doing so, they empower both the addict and the families of addicts to begin their recovery.
"Ending Addiction for Good” is an inspiring book! I work with children and see firsthand the devastation that a parent’s addiction can have on these young lives. I was looking for a book that would help me better understand these parents and also some of my friends and family who are going through addictions. By reading this book, not only was I better able to understand addiction as a behavioral disorder and develop a sense of compassion for those who are doing the only thing they know to deal with their pain, but the book also encouraged me to not lose hope or give up on those I love. There are a lot more treatments available to help addicts that may not have been available ten or twenty years ago. The children that I work with will have a real shot at a good life if their parents seek help.
There are times when the book sounds like a sales pitch for the treatment center, though I take the authors at their word that they wrote the book to share their treatment protocol with those who cannot afford the treatment center. I also like that 100% of the author’s royalties go to charity. Knowing that made me feel like what they are sharing is genuine.
This book provides a good introduction to those who don’t know much about addiction – both to know what it is and how it can be treated. I recommend it and have passed it along to a few friends in the Education, Social Work, and Peer Counseling fields.
This was a very comprehensive book, loaded with effective ways to help someone struggling with an addiction, to live life without dependency. I liked the many alternative treatment suggestions like yoga, meditation, acupuncture, nutrition and individual counseling/therapy. This book would be good for any addiction treatment provider, or adult who is looking to incorporate alternative treatments to their recovery.
